Ok topic is fired up. What size wing do you use and on what body. I use a Proline '99 Chevy truck body and use a BRP small truck wing. I found the body to give better handling than the stock Losi. Has any one tried the Dahm's Slammer XT. Here is a tip if you keep bending the transmission brace. I got hold of anouther chassis from a differnt car and cut it to go under trany to the rear bolts of the center chassis brace. in the shape of a "Y". It makes the truck a little heavier but along with a doubled up rear shock tower makes it last when going for big air. I got the idea for the Big Air artical in RCCA MAG. But thought a complete double chassis would just be to heavy. Every couple of tanks of fuel the flywheel pins come out of the flywheel. I use locktite on them. Any ideas?

I haven't driven my NXT often or hard enough to have anything go wrong yet. Other than the run in with the T-Maxx. I used the Project NXT in one of the older RCCA issues and picked up a front Bulkhead brace, and aluminum steering arms and carriers. Plus some RPM ball ends. I am actually using the stock body for now, and I didn't cut a wing out of the scrap lexan, I don't remember the instructions saying anything about it, doh.
crazy1, I doubt you would need to ever remove the pins from the flywheel so why not just CA them in?

I actually run with just the stock body as well... I was thinking of picking up a new one, but our hobby shops around here really **** , and don't like ordering stuff in.
Hey Does anyone's NXT pop wheelies?

Hehehe it's clean' 'n' shiny cuz I just rebuilt it yesterday... My steering was real tight, so I took the whole thing apart and cleaned it all up. I just put those baloons on yesterday as well, I think it'll keep the shocks alot cleaner and hopefully they won't need rebuilding anytime soon, I'll let ya know how they work out if I ever get my engine problems figured out. Stupid thing is running EXTREMELY hot for some reason, and I can't figger it out.

What type of baloons are you using? With the amount of gunk that left my pipe and attached itself to the shaft, I think baloons may be a good idea for my truck.
Grudly
05-24-2001, 05:30 AM
They're just 12" round happy birthday baloons, I just the necks off right at the edge where they start to turn round, and stretched the necks over the springs... I was gonna just use those long skinny baloons, but I couldn't find em anywhere, these ones worked fine though.

Stormer Hobbies has the pads with the arm in their closeouts, https://sslserver.com/stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?pn=LOS9401
I was thinking that once I run out of pads, I would probably glue brass to the arm... kinda like those old brass strip brakes. Maybe even really really fine sandpaper could work...

Does anyone's NXT's out there do wheelies?
I've tightened my diff and slipper a fair amount in attempt to get it lifting the front wheels of the ground, but it still doesn't work very well... I'm running it with an MT 12 so it has more than enough power for this, I'm guessing I just don't get enough traction or something?

I don't think it readily does wheelies since it's more of a race truck than a wheelie truck. That's why I got a Bolink HotRodz to do wheelies. :)

Hey guys!! What is goin' on? Well sorry I haven't posted sooner. Well we got to keep this thread alive so keep on posting. I will post a pic of my NXT as soon as I put it back together. I got a race this Friday, I hope I do good. I got a question for all ya. What kind of receiver packs are you running and how do you charge them? I am thinking about getting an OFNA pack but can't decide.

Ouch! Was runnin' at the BMX track today when this lil guy there told me my truck was fast, but he bet me that it couldn't ever clear the triple... Couldn't back down from that one! This jump is BIG... bout 20 feet in length from start to end, and the take off ramp is about 8 feet tall. Needless to say I cleared it easily, flew a bit too far actually and missed the landing ramp and hit the flat part of the track, wish I wasn't such a newbie at this, I didn't hit the brakes in time to bring the nose back down and it landed straight vertical on the lil metal thing that the battery pack sits in. Only damage was my rear shock tower got cracked in half, and a bit of body damage... ah well ten bucks for a new tower is well worth getting that much air!  :p

Beeper I built my own reciver packs. The local hobby shop sells Sanyo AA nicad batteries seperatly. Put zip ties around each end, supper glued batteries togeather, soldered jumper wires and wire to goto reciver on, and wraped in tape. I use an over night charger mostly. Some times I use my Novac Rino peak charger set a 2 volts. To use peak charger you need to get a three pin header(from the local electronics store) that will fit into the female plug on the reciver pack or get a extenision servo wire and cut and strip. So that you have a male end to fit in the reciver pack wire and bare wire to put gator clips from peak charger.

Part numbers wrong in NXT owner's manual! I have found two wrong part numbers. The slipper shaft calls for A-3060. This shaft is to short. Correct number is A-3086. The dogbone/drive shaft w/yoke calls for A-3082. These parts are also to short. Correct number for the drive shaft is A-3090. The worst part of the problem is that the A-3082 is marked on the package for the NXT. Any one else know of more wrong part numbers?

HG (Hammond Ghuman) and Team Trinity, RPM (front suspension parts marked for GTX, Robison Racing Prouducts has a diff gear, MIP has a clutch and golden shock shafts. Yep! Thats my GTX.... I bought it off my friend for $100 Canadian.. he wanted to get rid of it cause he spent all of his time on his dads XXXNT which he races. So he sold it to me, now I hope to put a 4-stroke in it (: He upgraded it a fair bit too! Its got almost full bearings cept for one in the spur. At least half of its parts are RPM, including the green ball cups, and most of the black plastic stock looking stuff too. In reference to the question about an NXT popping wheelies, I had an NXT that would not only pop wheelies it would pull a wheely until it flipped over backwards. It had an MT-12 on it so I don't know why yours won't.I now have a xxx nt because the nxt didn't seem to offer the traction that the xxx nt does and I also broke 4 bulkheads within a couple of months and then I made the switch.

grudly, here you go. I do not have any pics though. This is a Team Losi NXT Graphite Plus with every hop-up known to man. I am also including most of the stock parts as well excludeing the tuned pipe and cluthch. I jsut had the body professionaly painted and has not been used. There are alot of scratches on the undercarrige, but that is normal and will happen anyway. The only thing that is broken is bushing that the spurgear rides on and one of the rear hingpins is messed up. This can be fixed for a total of about 7 dollars. If you wanted to but this car completely new it would cost around 700 dallars. If you want I also have an O.S. 2cv with a trinity punk head and mip boost bottle. I also have a starter box. Here is a list of all of the hop up parts. [list=1]
HG front and rear shock towers
HG spring retainers
HG spring clamps
HG front hub carriers
HG titanium top shaft
HG T-6 alluminum diff gear
Trinity front bulkhead
Trinity rear suspension pivots

Trinity outdrive saver rings (titanium)

I have mine set exactly like you do, but I don't get any pull on it at all. If I remove the servo horn, then the servo turns ok. But when the horn is on, it doesn't pull the brake. The throttle is fine though. Not sure what the problem is. Do you have yours pulling the throttle open and pushing the brake off, when you apply the gas? I have the servo extension(not sure if that is what you call it or not) off the carb that is over to the right if you are looking down on the car. It is going towards the servo. Then when I apply the gas, it slides it open to the left and lifts the brake off. When I apply the brake, it pulls the brake arm down, but doesn't seem to apply enough pressure to stop the brake wheel. I wonder how I could test the torque on my servo?

Do you have your servo turning from left to right? That is if you are looking from the back of the car down.

06-28-2001, 04:22 AM
BadReligion- I will check with Trinity for you
Crazy- The Losi tanks don't have pickup filters. What part clogged and what clogged it? Dirt?
crazy1
06-28-2001, 10:16 PM
Aaron Waldron what was cloged was the pick up. It is not just an open tube for the pick up. I agree that it is not much of a filter and may be their just to keep foaming fuel from getting into the fuel line. I run an inline filter to protect the engine. The problem did not realy happen untill almost nine gallons have been run thrugh the truck with various engines. With that much fuel having gone through the pick up it could dirt or even maybe a build up of oil. I have been known to keep the truck running for a couple hours at a time and just keep on refueling. When I stop running everthing is covered with dirt and sand. So maybe dirt got into the tank when refueling with engine running and poping the fuel tank lid open on a dirty truck.
losifreak2004
06-28-2001, 11:05 PM
BadReligon- Trinity no longer makes that part.
Crazy1- That was probably it, and if you run your truck there is no way to solve it. You may wants to check your engines if enough dirt got in the tank to clog the pick-up tube, filter or not. I don't think oil could've built up that much.

The NT is so much easier to drive and it is a TON faster, but the NXT was not a bad truck. I ran mine hard and did really good with it.
The Graphite Plus NXT doesn't really need any hop-ups tp bring out its full potential.

Bad Religion what do you want the rear shck towers for? If it was to make a stronger truck try this. Double up the rear stock shock towers. Use the next length of bolts to hold it to the back of the transmision. Also you will have to use longer bolts and a spacer ware the shocks mount to the rear a arms to account for the thickness of the seconed shock tower. I use the spacer that comes in the sock cartridge rebild kit (losi A-5015). You do not need it for the nxt shocks and the spaceing is just right. You will also need to cut off the body mount of the seconed shock tower. I used to come off big air jumps ment for 1/8 scale buggies and some times landed on the shock tower. After I put the seconed tower in they never broke again. Since you have the front pin brace it sounds like you may have a problem breaking your front a-arms and front bulkhead. Try using RPM's wide front bumer for Traxxas (part #81162). It will fit if you narrow down the mounting area a little on each side with a exacto knife. The mounting holes are an exact macth. This will protect your front end. Also try the RPM front bulk head (part #73782). This tip will sound kind of dumb but it will help the handiling of the truck. Use spacers to keep the slop out of the ends of the a arms. Espicaly on the rear hub carrier and a-arm join. It will make a large differance if you have a lot of slop. It seams as if the longer an a-arm is on the truck the more slop opens up. I use #4 washers. Good luck.

Subtle changes to the rear, they made the rear shock tower wider, put XXT front spindles on it, and I believe they made the rear arms slightly longer, although I'm not sure on that last part.

I dont think it will fit cause i tried to put a O.S pull start on mine and it didnt fit. The exhaust was in the way. :)

09-01-2001, 12:17 AM
you can. you just need to make sure you have a pullstart header on the exhuast. i have .12 spd with a 360 stinger pipe.
Grudly
09-01-2001, 01:15 AM
Hmm I only have the stock header that came with my nxt... oh and i have the stock header that came with my XXXNT, maybe that one would work.
poopie how do u like the 360 stinger on your NXT. Does it break easy
Draxx
09-03-2001, 05:01 PM
I used an ofna header to get the pull start to fit on my GTX when I got rid of that stupid rubber manifold...a similar header would probably work on the NXT.

the 360 stinger works good and has lots of low end.
anyone have a nxt fuel tank is good condition for sale?

You can use a pull start on the nxt. You have to use the pull start spacers on top of the engine mount and the rubber nxt exhaust header or the AE pull start header. This will make pull start engines fit.
Draxx
09-07-2001, 04:06 PM
I tried the Associated pull start header
on my GTX and found it put the pipe at a very odd angle. It sat WAY too high. Thats why I went to the ofna header. You might want to eyeball it real good before you buy the AE header.
poopie
09-09-2001, 05:30 PM
you can get a torch to heat up the AE header and bend it down. just heat it at the bend and give it a little tap with a hammer.
Anyone ever strip all the gears in the transmission. Well i traded my monster pirate for a NXT (dont ask why i did it) > When i got the truck the engine was screwed up and the trans is all stripped. Also it didnt even come with a clutch with the spring around it. Anyway know were i can get the gears and clutch assembly on-line for cheap. Thanx  :D

Get the parts on line? Yes, horizonhobbies.com. Cheep? I don't know about that. But at least the Losi parts are not that expensive compared to some. Succh as ofna parts. A .12 will also be cheaper to run. They take a lot less fuel. Goood luck and check the shafts in the trany. The trany probaly striped because of the missing slipper clutch. If you do not have a manual check out the Losi site. Lots of good info their.

I'll probably get spanked for posting this on this forum,...but,...I'm wondering if any of you GTX guys have a stock pipe you'd like to sell? I'm tryin everything to get the perfect "powerband" out of my CV-R and I heard that pipe helps on a track like mine. Maybe you can e-mail me with a pic if you've got one for sale. btmam@earthlink.net Thanks !! :(

Anyone know why my pinion gear doesn't touch the spur gear in a tight fit.
Grudly
09-24-2001, 07:23 PM
Pinion doesn't mesh with the spur gear? Have you bent your chassis or transmission brace? When I bent my tranny brace the gears didn't mesh well anymore, so I just bent it back and it meshes fine again. Do the teeth of the gears touch each other, but just not close enough? They don't need to be tight, slip a piece of paper in between the gears and roll it through, if the paper comes out crimped then yer gear mesh is set about right. If the paper rips, then it's too tight and should be readjusted by loosening your motor mount screws and wiggling it around a bit to get it right.
Trying to sell my NXT racers kit look in the Buy sell trade forum comes with a lot.
Yo, grudly, you probably have it geared wrong. YOu should consult your hobby shop to help you gear it to accelerate faster. I have a GTX, with a OS 12 CV with a Dynamite head and I haven't used it yet, but I think it will do wheelies when I gear it right. I run a HPI Dodge Ram with the wing that it came with. Also, you may have the heavyweight flywheel and should try the MIP red anodized lightweight flywheel. Does anyone use Progressive shock resevoirs? I am thinking of getting some, but am not sure if it is worth it.
hey, LOSI, try Stormer Hobbies (http://www.stormerhobbies.com)

Does anyone know of any problems when running the GTX? Like with the OS cv? I haven't run mine yet.

They are not as stiff as the graphite front arms are lighter and stiffer than the rpm arms. Rpm front arms will last longer and take a lot more abuse. Horizon hobbies has a graphite chassis brace in stock #losa4023

Well it has been a long time since a post was made for the nxt trucks. So here gose one to get the forum back in view. Last Saterday I as down at the local track. There were just two stadium trucks. One gas (NXT) and an battery (AE). The rest were a tmaxs. Not even one buggy! Boy has the world of R/C changed since I bought my NXT. The good news is that was able to keep up with Tmax on the track. How are your NXT's doing? Get them out of storage and run them. You will be suprised how much fun it will be to run a stadium truck again. Even an old one like the NXT.
Hey Crazy, did you find those parts? Stormer has them real cheap. That's where I get all my stuff. BTW, does anyone want to trade their T-Maxx for a GTX witha parts truck and a CV-R? It's so fast, it will pass anything up!! I need somethin bigger and with higher ground clearance.

I actually do have my stock pipe if you are looking to buy. It has been used maybe through 10 tanks of fuel. The rubber stinger is installed and intact.
Will ship to continental US for $10.
I think you can still get them new at stormer, and I had one on my GTX when I still had it with my CV-R and it hauled!!!!!

Anyone using the Trinity front brace for the bulkhead? I bought one at a hobby store and the holes were too close together. Saw another on for sale on Ebay, and the guy measured the holes for me and tells me they are 53mm apart. I measure my truck and I get 54.5mm. What's up with that? My truck is an NXT Graphite+. I did replace the bulkhead, and one hinge pin and one suspension arm with stock parts. Any clues?

craigb: the front brace should work on your truck. The hinge pins ar at an angle in thr front bulk head. The further forward they go the narroer the space between them gets.
rc/guitarman69: tranny case is in stock at horizonhobby.com. They do not have a tranny brace.

When I still had my GTX, which was about 3 months ago with the CV-R in it, I got all my parts from www.stormerhobbies.com and they had most of them, and you can get the blowup of both the GTX and the NXT from Losi's website, www.teamlosi.com, hope this helps!

Crazy1,
Thanks for the tip. I swear I installed the hinge pins before I tried it, but I will try again. I already broke a suspension arm and bulkhead in a crash. Are there any other parts that will be in danger after I install this brace? Like it won't break something else now that it is so bomb proof?

Do you guys use the reciver cover thing? Cause i think its a pain. If not what do you use to protect your reciver? Thanks!
Draxx
01-02-2002, 03:40 PM
Actually, I use the top of a 6 inch round party balloon.I just cut it off and stretch it over the reciever and it keeps dust, fuel etc out. When it gets grungy, I just replace it...it is cheap, works good and you have your choice of colors!!
craigb
01-02-2002, 03:54 PM
I used to use both the receiver cover thing and a party baloon. Realized that was overkill and really didn't like the looks of the stock one anyway. Now I use a Kyosho rubber receiver cover that slips over my Futaba 3channel FM receiver. It fits pretty snug and looks WAY better! It looks like it will protect the receiver in all but a rain storm or major fuel spill. I have heard you can use silicone sealer around where the servo and battery leads plug into the receiver AFTER you plug them in for added insurance. Haven't tried that one yet.

I have seen the Kyosho covers and it did look like a good setup.I just happen to see the balloons at the store and gave it a shot. When I run out, I will probably get the Kyosho cover.Might as well get one for my wife's Mini Cooper as well...

Yargh! I used to love my NXT GP, now I can't stand the friggin thing. I race a XXX-NT now, but I thought it'd be fun to bring a friend to practice with me so I got a new engine for my NXT, it's a pullstart HPI NitroStar .12, I never got any pullstart mount spacers with my kit, so I had to go spend $20 on the stupid parts baggie to mount this thing. And after hours of messing around with it, I've come to the conclusion that there's absolutely no way I can get this engine in this truck. This sucks!
Anybody out there have a pullstart engine in an NXT?
I'm runnin outta ideas and money to throw at this truck. I've got the engine mounts installed correctly in the forward position with the spacers installed. I'm using the header off my XXX-NT and it looks like it'll work fine, but no matter what I do, the gear mesh is way too tight.

Thought you guys might be interested in this modified throttle/brake linkage setup I came up with. The linkage rods are tie-dye anodized titanium rod and the rest of the parts are off the shelf Ofna parts. I also relocated the fuel tank pressure line to reduce foaming. Picked that tip up from RCCA.

what size engine if any does the nxt with bearings come with? or do i need to buy one?
craigb
07-13-2002, 06:18 PM
If you are looking to buy a new (still in the box) NXT with bearings, or even a used one for that matter, the truck will have no motor. You might want to check if this kit accomodates both bump start and pull start engines before buying an engine. I think the NXT kit will work with both bump and pull start, though I can't remember for sure.
I put an OS CVX-12 (pull start) in my NXT and have had great luck with it so far. Easy to tune, starts up every time and never stalls out on me.
Good luck,
Peace

The new version of the NXT (XXXNT) can be purchased ready to run with an engine and radio gear. Or you can always find great deals on new and used NXT's your favorite on line auction site...or RCCA classifieds.

I have a GTX that I bought new in 1997, It still has the stock pull start .12 Dynamite and just recently it has stopped running. Not bad for 7 years and maybe a 100 gallons on fuel thru it. The truck is stock with no hop ups except a 2n1 clutch and a parris pipe, it still has the stock rubber exhuast sleeve on it. The original tires which are baddly worn. In all the truck still looks brand new and would pick the front end up with every pull of the throttle. Its been very good to me.

I purchased a Losi GTX Pro (full bearings) and OS .12CV engine six years ago this month. I've run less than 1/2 gallon of fuel through it. It has practically zero scratches on the bottom of the chassis, as 95% of it's use has been on the street. The only fuel used on this engine was Blue Thunder 20%. I have used after run oil after every use.
This was the first year the OS engine came with square head, so the retailer, MD Planes Inc., fitted a blue O'Donnell head on it before shipping it out. I still have the unused head in the original OS box. The truck was purchased from Hobby Warehouse of Sacromento. I still have the original receipts from the purchase of both the engine and truck.
All of my RC stuff has been boxed up for at least the last three years. I tore into it last Sunday and ran three tanks through it on the street. The clutch was grabbing so I replaced it with an MIP 2-N-1 clutch on Monday evening.
I would like to get into 1/8 scale buggies, so I am selling all of the Losi related gear I currently have. This would include the truck and engine, a handheld bump starter, Futaba FP-2PB radio set w/ receiver and servos, misc spare Losi parts, extra pair of wheels with virtually new rear off-road tires.
I'm asking $200 for everything. After all, the engine and truck are practically unused.
Thanks.
