Well I hope I get the RDX for Christmas, then I'll probably race my T3 a lot less, but when the trophie races come around I'll probably race it more.

Yo people, long time since i posted, i have been racing on-road with my TC3. I was board so i thought i would stop in see what was goin on. Seems to me, there is only about 4 or 5 of T3 owners that post on here. Pudder that is a nice car, but belts suck :P ! anyways, how ya'll been, break much? get any new performance parts, get any new speed records, or do i still have the title at over 40mph?

pudder
12-30-2004, 11:17 PM
Well I've still been racing the T3 and will be for at least another few weeks. Corally forgot some parts with my RDX so I have to wait a week while the parts come in. Then I will probably take a couple weeks just messing around with my rdx before I will race deppending on how it is at first. I'm racing carpet track so I'm not too worried about crap getting in the belts, and I think other features of the car more than make up for belts vs shaft thing. :) I'll post some pics of the car when I take some.

I get 40-45 all day, 12x2 speed gems, 25/75 gearing, and epic 3000 sport packs.

dalejrfan8
01-03-2005, 05:29 PM
Dude isn't that gearing a little high? I use 18/87 on my 16t.

microrcdude
01-03-2005, 06:41 PM
75 is awful too low for a truck IMO. Is it 32 or 48p gears?

pudder
01-03-2005, 06:44 PM
I'd guess 48p since that is more common, and 32 pitch that size would be too big to fit!

microrcdude
01-03-2005, 11:13 PM
True, forgot about that. Does that seam like a real weird gearing set-up to you?

pudder
01-04-2005, 12:20 AM
Ya, unless you were just doing a few speed runs

pudder
01-04-2005, 12:27 AM
But come to think of it, about 3 years ago my T3 went about 40 kph with older electonics, older batteries, so now if it was setup for offroad like it was then, I could probably get at least 46+kph. With a modified geared at about 16/87 it would do maybe 55? So maybe that would work in a speed run to go that fast. btw 60 kph is about 40mph

WDGuy
01-04-2005, 05:46 PM
It was just to see how fast it will go, Im not exactly how fast it is. But I know it is doing atleast 40. I have to fix it, the diff is slipping so much that I cant even drive it. Do you know how I can fix it?? I was just going to glue it, but I dont really want to. Can I put puddy in between the output yokes and the diff?

pudder
01-04-2005, 08:52 PM
No, silly putty will not work. It only works in gear diffs. You should tighten the diff screw and that should stop the slipping. I think the instructions say tighten it all the way down (not too tight though) and then back of 1/8 turn? Look in your manual to make sure.

microrcdude
01-04-2005, 11:50 PM
Ya, thats exactly what do do. But if you notice your motor temps are higher than usual or your gears are making a grinding sound, shut the car off immediatly.

The diff is as tight as it is going to get with out breaking the bolt that goes through the diff and threads into the T-nut. This is the first time I have had this problem in 5 years of owning this truck. I am going to get some gorilla glue, and glue it.

microrcdude
01-06-2005, 07:45 PM
PUDDER GOT HIS RDX! WOOOOHOOO! Dude, take along the T3, people need to loose to you in more than one class :D

microrcdude

Oh, and tell the cat if he does open the door, hes too big to fit in it.

pudder
01-06-2005, 08:18 PM
WDGUY-First problem in 5 years of owning? Have you bothered to take your diff apart and check what kind of condition it's in? I'd try to at least get it working again before gluing it which will make your truck drive like crap.

----------
I probably will still bring my T3 along with me (in case I break a part in practice or something) and I'm sure I'll race it once in a while. I might have to get some new tires for it because I WILL race in the Cabin Fever Reliever coming up soon and new tires would be incentive to race truck if there is a good show for it. That is basically what drove me to get into touring car... my truck runs at its peak and there really isn't much competition in truck class. The cat is my 6 month old kitten Woodstock. He seems to like playing with the antenna more than anything. :)

WDGuy
01-06-2005, 10:01 PM
I rebuild it every couple months (I dont race). I cant tell if it's good or bad, because I have never seen a bad one. But if you can help I would appreciate it, what can I buy to fix it without glueing it.

microrcdude
01-06-2005, 10:48 PM
LOL pudder, im sorry to say, but youve got some cats that are a little, well, crazy. And i can see where they get it from :p

pudder
01-06-2005, 10:55 PM
That and the wacky tabacky  err i mean catnip.

Anyways, WD guy, a bad diff will feel 'notchy' or really rough, like there is sand in it. The diff rings will have grooves worn in them and the balls at close examination, you can see they may have flat spots on them. Although this is a worn diff, it shouldn't slip as easy as yours does. Are you missing any parts in your diff? Check your manual. Otherwise it shouldn't really slip that bad worn out. But if your diff is worn I would reccomend rebuilding it. You can do that with these parts from MIP Racing:

Part# 1122 Thrust Rebuild Kit for Associated cars and trucks
Part# 1124 Super Diff Rebuild / RC-10B2, B3, T3

Hello my old brotherens. Havnt spoken to you guys in a while, so thought ide say high. Putter, you should visit the outside forums every now and then. I dont really spend much time on forums like I used to. I just dont have time to browse around as much, mostly stick to vehicle specific stuff now.

But why a Lousy Cripple x t?

microrcdude
01-16-2005, 10:46 PM
LOL cripple X T. Thats the best thing ive heard all day!

I thnk he baught it cause it was in "Great" Conditon, but upon further inspection, it didnt have half the stuff the previous owner had.

WDGuy
01-17-2005, 03:53 PM
I fixed my diff, so theres no other way to test it out then taking it down to the lake and mudding it. So I slapped on my imex swamp dawgs, 12T SpeedGems, and was slingin that stuff, then all of a sudden only 1 tire was spinnin, so I was like what #@$# and on closer inspection I broke a CVD. It was fun though.

AWESOME! the T3 is a great basher. How long was the run before it broke?

pudder
01-17-2005, 04:23 PM
I've never broken a cvd yet, but I did do a nice break on a drive cup on my TLT-1 :)

When I race my T3 next I think I'm going to use my original Silverado body. Its still in raceable shape and be a blast from the past. :)

Well, I have to admit, and understand this before you jump on me now, I was a huge associated guy, and loved my T3's. My other ones handled verywell, but my last one sucked. so, I decided to sell it, and try losi. I had a XXX-S for sometime now, and liked it, and now I say the same for the xxx-t. I have not had a better truck. It runs just as well as My first T3.

pudder
01-18-2005, 11:13 AM
I see. I just dont want a losi because all I ever see them doing is breaking :p May not break on me but I sure like the durability of my AE's.

01-19-2005, 08:56 AM
Rock On pudder! :D Yea, my AE's just broke a little more then my losi. My Losi has not once broke for me yet. but not to turn this thread away from its origanal star, my First T3 had everything, and it would never have broken if I didnt hit that Parking Cement block :(

That darn losi is getting to his head! :o :p

My track is having its annual "Cabin Fever Releiver" race weekend March 4, 5 and 6. I will most likely race my T3 then, and possibly race my Corally RDX as well, but I will dominate the truck class like last year I'm sure. The truck class has also prettymuch died out this season too which kinda sucks, but I am racing touring car so I dont care as much. I'm sure a bunch of people will show up for this race though so there should be some competition.

Well its been a while since I posted, the T3 was going good for like 10-15min and it happened when I came out of the mud, I was climbing a brush pile when the cvd broke. I have had my T3 for 5 years, and it was my first real rc, the only thing I have broken was a front arm because I let my friend drive it and a post jumped out in front of him, and the CVD because of all the stress on it I guess. If any of yall ever want to do some real offroading with there T3's and like the scale look get the swamp dawgs, I absolutly love the way mine hook up everywhere offroad. I haven't got stuck with it yet, I burnt up a set of brushes and esc on my T3 before it got stuck. Im going to bring it to my dads this weekend and do some real mudding with it.

Hey guys...I'm in the process of getting my t3 back in running order...
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good steering servo?

Thanks

pudder
02-11-2005, 04:37 PM
I have 2 Hitec 625's and I have used them in a variety of vehicles. They are metal geared so they can take a lot of abuse, they provide enough torque for most 1/10 applications (great for T3's) and are quicker than standard servos. I even use one in my Corally RDX touring car for racing. I think they are around 50$ u.s.

microrcdude
02-12-2005, 06:18 PM

I raced my T3 this weekend in the annual Cabin Fever Reliever race. The truck ran great all weekend, even though I had a bent shock shaft the truck ran great. I kept second position throughout the qualifiers and the truck ahead of me was a T4 who posted the best qualifier a lap higher than me. It prettymuch kept the same throughout the main. The truck ran really strong but just not enough to keep up to that T4, I took 2nd in the main and brought home another trophy. :)

Here are some pics of my truck zippin' around during a qualifier.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I keep having a diff problem with my T3. So far I've locked it two times with JB weld and after one or two runs the outdrives become un-"welded" to the diff rings. The diff rings are JB welded in there as well. I figure I'll try locking it one more time with some JB weld and see if it works. If it doesn't, anybody got any other ideas to lock this thing? Would using two or three screws that are long enough to hold both outdrives together work? Thanks for your time guys!

WDGuy
03-31-2005, 03:33 PM
I tried drilling through the outdrives and was barely able to put a scratch on them. My buddy has some marine epoxy I am thinking about using.

pudder
03-31-2005, 07:05 PM
It might help if there was a bit better surface for the JB Weld to stick onto. Try going over the diff rings with some 50 grit sand paper and see if that helps.

Why do you want to lock your diff anyways?

I have the new T4 which is a nice car, but I have found a problem and maby someone has a suggestion. Without much trouble the steering servo gears just stripped. Upon closer inspection I see that there is no "saver" and it's pretty much a direct linkage which put lots of strain on those gears. I bought the RTR s.e version and it came with airtronics 94102 servo. I am upgrading to a BB h.speed servo from tower for $20. will this solve or help this problem. There was $90 servos what with that? Should I try to find a servo savver and go with the BB steel gears or just buy a bunch of gears for the 94102.
also The car jumps terriable all it wants to do is flip over, it seems like the front end takes the bump but the back flips up over the back and pow.I have tried installing and removing the supplied shock shims but no help also moved the batt forward and back as much as it does move. any suggestions?

pudder
04-03-2005, 11:45 AM
For the servos, go spend the extra money and get a metal geared servo, trust me, its worth it.

When you're jumping try keeping on the throttle in midair so that your back end will come down a bit.

well, decided to try and get enough parts to turn my t3 into a b3....

dalejrfan8
04-06-2005, 04:44 PM
Yeah it is definitely worth the extra money for an mg servo. I have a stock servo and busted it hitting a tree. I wasnt even going that fast. I would recommend a hitec 625. It has metal gears is fast enough for a truck and has plenty of torque. They will cost you around $40, so they aint that expensive.

That is going to be a short T3 GT Freak. Isnt the B3 chasis shorter than the T3?

pudder
04-06-2005, 07:01 PM
GTFreak- why the change? Better question, why not just buy a B3? Only a little more money and you could have a complete buggy AND truck.

punkrockracer
04-07-2005, 10:23 PM
I'm guessing you meant 13t originally, and not 1t. As for gearing, go up about 2-3 teeth in the spur or down 2-3 in the pinion. Should give you back a little run time, and it will be quicker off the line.

Hey all, I've just converted my B3 to a T3 - well almost, waiting on a battery strap for the longer chassis before its complete :) Powered by a Lehner 5300/Mtroniks Pro BL system, eats nitro trucks for breakfast. Are there any mods I can do to widen the wheelbase of the car or make it stronger? (I broke 2 chassis with my B3 at the back where the shock tower bolts on, I like to jump crazy heights a lot so if anyones found a mod to make it a bit stronger there that would be cool).

Cheers.

I've heard of people using Losi hub carriers on their trucks but I've never done that (the losi parts will probably break) but I have used HPI Universal Super Star rims and they widen the truck considerably.

You should break less parts with the T3 since your shock towers arent exposed.

Rtsbasic
05-28-2005, 08:07 PM
I'm not using the MGM controller, Mtroniks have very recently brought out their own range of controllers, check out www.mtroniks.net under the speed controllers section. It is in my opinion better than the current MGM as you can coast correctly and cogging is non exsistant. Plus they have a port on top to update the software etc. I'm using a mix of matched GP3300's, unmatched GP's, sanyo 2400's and various 1500 sports packs, suprisingly even the 1500's give out respectable performance on brushless with little cogging.

pudder, I've heard of people using losi hubs at the back and doing mods to the front hubs but I don't really want to weaken the car. My problem is I've fitted RC10GT RPM wishbones which are shorter so have made the car a lot narrower. For the min I've put stock ones on the back because it affected the handling too much, but some wheels with a different offset might do the trick, will have to look into the HPI's.

Hoping less parts will break as a T3, the pain of seeing a £20 c/f rear shock tower shatter is deep :( Now running lexan front/rear towers, seem very strong so far. They put up with more than the plastic ones for sure. And look cool :)

Rtsbasic

Where can I get some wide hex adapters? They would be useful to give my SB Sport a bit more offset as well. Does anyone have part numbers for the losi front axles? Would my T3 front wheels/bearings fit on them OK? Sorry for all the questions but I want my T3 to be as good as humanly possible :)

Cool, thanks for the info.

Does anyone sell alloy bits for a T3? Or maybe even delrin/nylon, I've broken the rear shock tower a couple of times in the last week or two now so looking for an aftermarket replacement (but not c/f, it snaps too easy when it lands on it). Looking for any other parts that will make it stronger, I've already got every RPM part fitted + some trinity and all the FT bling but its still not good enough :)

pudder
06-08-2005, 10:46 AM
Try looking on e-bay, I have never encountered aluminum shock tower for the T3.

If you can't find anything, you could always buy some thick lexan and make your own!
--------------
Anyone have a complete/near complete T3 gearbox they are willing to part with?
--------------

Rtsbasic
06-08-2005, 07:22 PM
I've got some thick material very similar to lexan but not quite the same, my front tower is made out of it, I once made a rear tower but it snapped while doing a cartwheel at a good pace, will make another one tomorrow but with a bit more material where it snapped before. Only problem is it takes ages but its free :) Would still like to get a stronger one though (wish RPM made nylon ones). Ah well, when I start my next college course in sept I will have access to the workshop so I can make small parts for myself if I provide the metal :) My truck will have even more alloy bling than it does right now.

Have a look on ebay for a guy called "rcwaffle", he has two stealth transmissions from a T3 up right now. Both are complete units and are what your looking for from the sound of it.

crazyjr

I think what you have is plexi-glass,if the outside covering says acrylic then it's plexi-glass,very brittle lexan is more durable.

Rtsbasic
06-09-2005, 06:27 AM
It may well be, it doesn't say acrylic on the outside covering its just got some stuff to stop it being scratched that you peel back with no writing. My friends dad brought a load to do the window's on his boat and had some left over so my friend made a chassis for his SB Sport out of it and I did shock towers, his chassis has held up very nicely so far and looks bling.

I do have some thinner plexi-glass kicking around, this other stuff cuts differently to the thin stuff so I'm not sure they're the same stuff.

My truck didn't come with any mounts when I bought it for some reason. I am useing the plastic Assoc. sevro mounts I found on tower. It did not say what model they were for. They mount up fine except that the linkage from the servo arm is at an angle and it binds the steering. Shouldn't the linkage be fairly straight? The servo needs to slide back just a little to line it up. I'll do some more searching at Tower and see what I can find.

Hey all...

I am in need of a Metal Gear Servo for my T3. Which make, model, bang for the buck servo would be best...

Also the reason I am needing one is that my t3 is eating them.. For some reason the standard servos are not working right. They will start clicking when trying to turn and then eventually teeth are ripped off. I have relaced all the turn buckles and caps...

What seems to be happening is that my front tires are turning to far?? Which actually causes them to bind when straightened out. Any ideas..

The Hitec 625 would be a good servo. It has plenty of torque and enough speed for your truck. It has metal gears and best of all it will run you around $40. I have the 645 which is a similar version and i love it but the only downside is, its too slow.

For you steering problem, i dont see how the wheels turning too far would effect anything. Could you possibly elaborate a little more on the problem. If you transmitter has epa you can adjust how far the wheels turn.

It is real hard to elaborate on the steering problem without actually seeing it... It appears that the tires are hyper extending... What happens is that one the tires on turned all the way to the right, the right front tire will sort of "flop" just hair more to the right, which sort of locks the tire into place, Like locking your elbow, but actually hyperextending it... I am going to rebuild the front end with new hubs-axles... I already replaced all the tunbuckles before...

Also is their something that I should know about the servo saver... I tried loosening it... Tightening it.... Everything... I thought my problem might have been there...

Thanks for the suggestion on the servo... I will certainly hunt one down...

I had the problem were the servo would turn farther than the steering would go. But i still dont understand what your problem is. Sorry i cant help you.

The clicking you hear is when the gears are stripped as you later find out.

You didnt happen to get titanium turnbuckles instead of the stock ones did you. Later on down the road you might want to get some. I waited until i bent one of the stock ones then i got a set of lunsford ones. They are really nice and are guarenteed for life.

Check out my new truck. An old family friend from town has 3 of these Mercury '67 half tons. He said he really doesnt have much use for them since he got his new truck, so hes giving them to me.

I have only gotten one '67 that has a straight six with manual four speed which is still in pretty good shape. It will still peel out good :)

Git R Done. Thats awesome! I wish my truck was a stick. But i got a v8 so im happy.

Anyways im getting some IB3800's so i get to drive my t3 soon. Right now i can still drive my t3 but just around in the street and the backyard.

Nice truck, engine looks sound. You never see trucks like that here in the UK.

My T3's out of action, broken front upper plate and the reciever's stopped working for reasons unknown. And my GT's out of action, broken servo saver, might actually have to drive my touring car :(

I've had my SS5800 BL in my T3 for quite a while now, its been working out great on my track and taking quite a beating over some of the jumps. :) The only thing is my Hitec AM receiver glitches easily with the BL in there :(

Thanks for the compliments on the truck. I'll post more pics once in a while as I make progress with it.

Look here for some info about the Novak glitching:

T3's love brushless, I haven't had a single problem with the transmission on mine, even with 70mph speed runs on 12 cells. More than a lot of cars can say.

I will just switch back to my JR FM reciever and I know that will fix it.

Ya, Team Associated gearboxes are the best, that is why I put a T3 gearbox in my TLT rock crawler. :)

Came home and found a package waiting for me... wwoohhoo :)
The wheels came today...all 20 pairs of them. got a set on the t3, heres a couple pics of them.

First impressions:
They ARE thicker then stock wheels, so they should hold up to a good thrashing...wont know for a bit tho...need tires for them. :) if anyone wants to donate some old tires, id be grateful.

The rustler and evader are also some good stadium trucks. They arent as racy as the AE and Losi ones but they are still very good trucks.

Hey guys, I want to use my old T3 as a basher. Can you guys give me any suggestions on what kinds of rims/tires are available to give it more ground clearance. Or would I be better off looking for a used Stampede roller or something?

dalejrfan8
08-27-2005, 03:58 PM
Both a pede and a t3 would be awesome bashers. The pede will have more ground clearence.

Vmax911
08-27-2005, 09:04 PM
I've found some tires (Masher 2000) that should take care of the ground clearance. Any gearing suggestions for these big 'ole tires?

dalejrfan8
08-28-2005, 09:06 AM
What kind of motor are you running?

Vmax911
08-28-2005, 06:37 PM
I'll probably start out with a stock motor. If I need more torque a have a 19 Triple (I think) around somewhere.

GT Freak
08-29-2005, 01:35 PM
Trying to pick up a couple more of these...(keeps fingers crossed) ;)

Rtsbasic
08-29-2005, 02:31 PM
The masher 2000's give you a lot more clearance..I run them on my T3 when bashing. For a stock motor (a rough guess) try around 15/87 and work your way from there. With my brushless kit I gear 14/90 but its a bit more revvy than a stock motor.

Vmax911
08-30-2005, 12:31 AM
Thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone used a Maxx body with the mashers (or in general)? Looks like the wheelbase of the Maxx is 12", while the T3 is 11". Maybe it wouldn't look to bad?

pudder
08-30-2005, 07:28 PM
I like the look of the Pro-Line MOAB 2.2 tires that just came out. They are really nice, around the same diameter of the Masher 2000's but with way cooler tread.

If you are going for a truck body, stick with something for a Stampede to keep the wheelbase right, unless you can test fit it at the store or soemthing.

microrcdude
08-31-2005, 10:14 PM
those MOABS look so dang sweet! I was gonna pick me up a set.

dalejrfan8

Rtsbasic
09-04-2005, 04:10 PM
Anyone ever tried fitting a savage size shell onto a T3? I was comparing a standard Savage 25 shell to a Crowd Pleaser for the T3 and the Savage one was a bit longer, but about the same width so maybe some would fit nicely?

Then Moab's look nice, might pick a set up sometime when my Mashers get worn down. Tread does look better, but on sand I think the Mashers might have a small advantage.

microrcdude
09-04-2005, 08:15 PM
Im sure it would fit, but to clear the rear shock tower may not be all that fun. The body would run real high on the back

Rtsbasic
09-05-2005, 04:20 PM
Would have to be careful of that, but I'm pretty sure some savage shells would fit nicely even with the shock tower being the way it is.

microrcdude
09-05-2005, 07:00 PM
yeah im sure some would. Any bodies your looking at in particular?

ineed2selmycars
09-07-2005, 07:27 PM
it can be very difficult to tear down the rear of a t3.... hopefully you haven't bottomed out to much and the motor mount isn't bent at all. If it is it causes some forcing and forcing is never good...

any way.. i rebuilt my diff and to make the truck driveable i had to tighten the diff so much that it sounds horrid even tho i just rebuilt it..... u guys have that at all?

hey i am going to get a p2k2 or p2k motor for my t3 i was wondering if 18/87 and 20/87 would work?i would be running on a short indoor track also i know its a newb question but do you get more speed or torque when you go down teeth on the pinion and what about going up? oh yea i also have a ss5800 what gearing do you guys suggest for it i would just be bashing around with it thanks! ethan

pudder
12-11-2005, 08:48 PM
What kind of tires will you be running?
Using a smaller pinion will give more torque/less speed.
Using a larger pinion will give less torque/more speed.
I would try using the 18 pinion first.

I ran the 5800SS setup last year in my T3 and I was using foam tires on a carpet track. I think I had it geared around 17/87 I would try maybe a tooth lower to run with regular size tires.
