my bro wants to race on road with his rustler so we are wondering what truck tires would work good on parking lot, also what inexpensive hop up parts may help running with 2000 batteries and a p2k2 motor. if possible, please post set-up, thanks

Pro line makes a road rage tires that work great. You could also install lunsford titanium turnbuckles.

Hey i just got my rustler and 2400 mAh nimh battery..awesome.. but i gotta question
im mainly gonna be runnin the street so if i glue the stock tires to the wheels will they wear away with all my street use or will they last??? thx

EvaderBX

Hey if your gunna be runnin in street get some Proline Street tires and maybe if you feel like it, a new faster motor. When you get the new tires glue them though, my rustler is so fast the tires will pop of if not glued.

06-20-2004, 02:14 PM
How long of a run can you get with one battery? If a run is near 10 min. let the car cool down a little bit. Don't run it 10 min straight or you will over heat your batteries motor and maybe your esc.

That didn't happen when I first started out because 3000 packs were like 60-100 bucks. My first car was a rustler also but I had 1500 packs so there was no overheating problem.

Ball bearing not only up the MPH by 2-3 MPH, they also give you longer runtimes. And for gears, get a bigger pinion gear, its about the cheapest thing you can do($3)

what speed dose your rusty run at and is 40km fast for an e/rusty
Did you not just ask that question?

If you want to make a rusty fast, simply get ball bearings, make sure the transmission is meshing properly (no side to side movement in the top, idler, and diff) and blueprint it if you need to (install shims to eliminate almost all play/slop, but make sure not to make it bind), eliminiate all slop in the drivetrain, get a better motor (brushless setups are insanely fast, not reccommended for noobs), and mess around with gear ratios. Also, lightweight "dish" wheels and low pro tires help to reduce rotating mass, allowing the truck to spool up faster and not waste energy turning heavy meats.

On a separate note, I just got a rusty (have a T3, and gearing is completely different from a rusty, so here comes the question  ). Now in it I have an LRP IPC Pro ESC and a speed gems 13x3 motor. It's geared 18/90, but after maybe a 5-8 minute run, the motor and ESC are blazing hot! I can't figure it out! I NEVER had this problem with my T3 and the same motor/ESC. I use the stock wheels/tires, and still run bushings (getting bearings in a few weeks along with some other goodies). Does my gearing seem undergeared or (dare i say) overgeared for the rusty, or is this normal for this truck? Thanks in advance ya'll!

for the traxxas 2.72 tranny(rustler, pede,)its 2 pinion teeth below the motor turn.your way overgeared man.racing with a handwound maybe 15/90.in reality 11/90 would be it but...you should be good with 12/90.thats what most peoplei know with a rustler and a 13t motor.IMO lowest motor a rustler can go heatlthy is 14t for the reason the slipper pegs and metal slipper plates dont do well with heat.

your t3 is a totally different tranny.i know your t3 manuel at least gives you ballpark gearing figures..just like my xxxt manuel does.all the traxxas manual gives is gear ratios.if you can...rig a fan on the motor,i live in hot cali summer days and i have to really

Thanks for the tip. I decided to just stick a 20 turn arm in the can instead. Works very decently and still has decent top end, but more torque.:D It's only a temporary setup, as it will definitely be getting brushless sometime this year.:D:D Thanks again for the help.

My friend and I were driving his electric Rustler ST. One thing I noticed was that his tires keep coming loose. They are not glued on, should we glue them? If so, what type of glue should we use? Another thing that happened, was he went full speed into a turn. The truck rolled over and got back on its wheels again. When we pressed the throttle, we heard a loud, hissing, screeching noise. The car did not move. The steering is fine, and the differential doesn't seem to have any problems (when one wheel turns clockwise, the other turns counter-clockwise). When we push the car forward manually, we can hear the screeching noise. Does anybody have an idea what this is? What could be wrong? How can we fix it? We think there is something wrong with the gear mesh.

Edit: Oops, I must've posted this using the wrong browser window. I thought I was making a new thread. Sorry .

1. tries if u use hot glue and put a stick on each side or the trie and it is removeable unlike CA glue
2. the load sound. sounds like the motor louse and u are striping the gear just tight in the motor and rest the mesh if u have to u might have to re plase the strip the super

TMaxxBenny25
03-06-2005, 09:53 PM
Just use CA glue from your local hobby shop
take off your motor cover than redo the gear mesh. Tighten down the screws. Mine did the same thing.

If you want a car to go 50mph...get an onroad dude, offroad isnt about speed, its about nice suspension and being able to take jump without bottoming out.

I would say that is smoke based on the caption...

Yes, the nightmare chassis is a good chassis. It fits right in, but is not something you want to use for bashing. too thin. I would suggest you only use it for racing.

I found this discovery of mine useless, but i think some of you guys might think its cool.

Spray WD-40 into the motor, and then let er' rip. It will look like your burning out, because there will be smoke galore. It wont hurt your motor, it will actually lube it.

when i drive the truck it goes fine for a few seconds then it loses power. when it loses power everything loses power, i can't steer and the little light on the esc doesn't even come on. then a few seconds after it loses power it comes back then it loses it again. the motor i have is a venom fireball 17t. Thankyou very for the help.

RCfrodoRC
02-05-2006, 04:20 PM
i'm using the traxxas xl-1 which handles down to 17t motors. a little while ago i tried to drive it again and it was going fine for like 2min. then it started doing the same thing again. at first i thought huh that's weird maybe it got wet or something but then it strarted doing it again so i'm probably going to get a new esc since i was planning on getting one in a couple months anyways. Thankyou both for the help.

Frodo, do you plan to run that 9t of road? It's more of a onroad motor! You might want to concider not going lower than 13x2 motor. BTW: how much are you planing to spend ESC/MOTOR? If speed you want you might want to save up a little longer and go brushless. More cost effective down the road!

I have a Bandit, that goes to and fro as a Ruslter. Very tough as nails peice of plastic http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif I usually take off the hex nut for the wheels and put on Losi and Associated wheels on them, both versions, truck and buggy. You just use a drill bit a little bigger than the hole in the wheel to make them fit.

Of course I gave it to my brother, and he can't break it. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What did you have to do to convert the Bandit to a Rustler? I've ordered the front axles, what else is required?

So, for $47.66 + shipping I can pick up the parts to conver the Bandit to a Rustler, or I can just watch eBay for a week or so and pick up a whole Rusty roller and have lots of spares. I think I'll go with option #2.

Your going to need the basic up grades on the old version?
Basic upgrades for the old version:
1. MG servo, the stock one is junk.
2. Alum. Idler gear, The nylon gear will not handle hotter motors.
3. Either 8 5x8 bearings for the stock bearing carriers or RPM bearing carriers front and rear with 5x11 bearings
4. fiberglass tie bar and rpm bumper, Keeps you from tearing up the front bulkhead.
5. alum. shock caps! the stock plastic ones pop off on hard landings!
These simple up grades will make the rusty very, very crash worthy! These up-grades will take care of the most common problems with the basic rusty. My rusty with the basic stuff has taken a beating and keeps going! Now after three years with my rig it no longer really looks like a rusty I have fully customized it! It has been the most enjoyable truck I have ever owned!

The most commen upgrades are the RPM Front Bumper and the RPM Bearing Carriers with 5x11 bearings. I used to have a rustler (my brothers now) and I would fling it off ramps and would take anything. Most durable car ive seen

That's why I want one. I know many of the basic upgrades.
I'm after the old styled one, hopefully I can find one I want soon.

The first thing that broke on me was the servo! The bearing carriers can wait, but the front end needs the proper upgrades to be super basher!

if you get the older version and drive on the road you will want new rear tires as well those stock things wear down fast! especially if its your first car!

does anybody know if i can put a nitro rustler tranny into an electric rustler. my dad bought me a 6.5 velociti system. i just want something that can handle that kind of power. who makes a good metal or aluminum spur gear for it? also what do you recommend for my gearing on the spur and pinion.

juice- i am almost positive the nitro tranny will fit the electric rustler
robinson makes great steel gears
-->http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUD52&P=7

and since thats a 72 tooth u will probably want like a 19-22 tooth pinion give or take a few teeth here and there

and as for mounting two motors i used an emaxx motor plate and custom mounted it to the stock trany.
i used an evx that i got off ebay for 80 about 2 years ago.

1. Is the pic's of the car current? If un sure ask the seller to send you current pic's before you buy! Then ask your self:
a. Is the truck CLEAN? A clean truck is a cared for truck!
b. inspect the pic's for damage! a clean truck will show damage easy don't be afraid to ask for tons of pics! a seller should provide them with out whining!
c. If chassis and body is real dirty, filthy and just unkept. Don't buy!
d. Ask to see a vid of it going! If it is posible for the seller?
e. when indoubt post a link here to ask us to help inspect! we'll help!
2. Check the sellers history!
3. Bid low! remember a new rusty with ESC is $120-$130

Vato Loco
07-25-2006, 08:39 PM
OBTW: rustys are cheap and easy to work on so even if you get a lemon you can still make it in to a top rate machine. Just bid low!

thanks ron, the website has everything i need for body mods. im looking for more speed and wanting a faster motor and speed control. my question is, how do i know what combos to go with in speed controls and motors? the car is just not fast compared to the pro.15. and also what is a good website for new suspension upgrades and drivetrain and everything else? thanks for putting up with my complete newbness

I do believe that they no longer make that chassis! The FLM chassis is the only Alum. chassis on the market!

If you want speed then a Sensorless BL system is the easiest route to take! the new Mamba Maxx 5700 would be my Sensorless choice and the AE sphere with a 3 star motor would be my sensored choice. both system properly powered with the right batteries will out run your nitro rusty! As for the FLM Alum stuff, JMO that just slows it down cause its heaver than the plastic! If you mod out your rusty right you won't need all alum. parts! the Alum. front bulkhead is all you need. 35-40 crash in to a tree with eather plastic or alum. parts something is going to break! just the plastic is cheaper to replace! If you want speed keep it light!

uggh, my car ran into a tetherball pole yesterday, it glitched right as it was going past it, apparently someone else had their car out at the same time. I completely shattered my graphite arm. I custom fitted some graphite arms that aren't even for the car, but they work, and they give it a lot of suspension travel. I'll get some pics up of my car when i finish modding it (for now).

Mamba Max 5700 or 4600, Novak 7.5 or 6.5, Mtroniks Pro/Lehner 5300 or Feigao 380C motor, etc.

It all depends on what you really want. I personally run an HV Maxx in my Rusty (and will be getting the HV4.5 for even more fun....:D).

ok... which are the fastest, the slowest, the most suited for off road, sensorless/sensored, some specifics would help.

Vato Loco
08-02-2006, 03:28 PM
Sensored is slower but more contolable also 6 cell is as high as the systems can handle safely! the sensoreless is less controlable but you can add tons of power to them some up to 20 cells! also the sensorless speed steps arn't as smooth as the sensored!
