i am not sure if there is, but santa barbera has alot of nice things i can tell you that much. we race our buggies on base, there is alot of dirt bike tracks on base well they fit just right for the 1/8 scale buggies. where in santa barbera did you say they race? i always went to santa barbera to check out the college chics gone wild type situation never got to see if there was any tracks. i looked in rc car action and they dont show anything but in long beach and compton. thats too far just to race rc, when we got it all on base. i also take my zx9r out to santa barbera since there is a kawi dealer. i need some parts, came off a wheelie and came down pretty hard, almost busted my ... well my side fairing cracked a bit on the bottom, very minor, cant see it but i can..lol
let me know where that track is i want to check it out.

ok i just posted this in the MBX thread but i guess thats an ofna 1/8 buggie. i have an MBX pro RTR

whats the best pipe for the .25?

and what should i get rid of off the bat(besides the steering servo)?

soslo
01-03-2003, 03:25 AM
The o.s. t-2030 works very well. Some around here have tried the new 2050 pipe for the mileage thing, but were not really impressed with it.
RB makes good pipes also. Some even like the Duratrax pipes for buggy. Everyone has a preferece though!
Besides the servo.. Red loctite for the steering knuckles, and blue for everything else.
Hope this helps. :)

hey guys i just got my hubs from ssr/c, these things look great on my MP. he also makes a set that will allow you to mount 2.2 tires on any ofna buggy (6 and 8 mm). i am thinking of garbing a set, they will give you a wider wheelbase (think that's what it's called). anyway they are like $25 and not to be passed on i will post a link when i get home.

hey guys from reading some posts on here some doubts have come into mind. I am thinking about buying a GTLX, and ppl say that they break easily, and are not good at all, is this true or swould this be a waste of money?

soslo
01-03-2003, 09:48 PM
I think Ofna will faze them out. They are catching too much h--- over them.
Just my 2 cents.

I just bought a gtlx and I am disappointed. First off everything was loose. The steering servo got replaced as fast as i could. the front axles are weak. The force .21 isnt gonna spend alot of time in the buggy.

i dont want to bash anyone, but i would say you got what you payed for, its cheap entry level buggy, not top notch, ful blown racer, so i wouldnt expect it to be strong like a tank, and fast as F-1

soslo
01-04-2003, 09:28 AM
All entry level rc cars, from any manufacturerare never up to the quality of the more expensive ones. Try one of kyosho, traxxas, tamiya, ect....
That is what runs a lot of people away too.

Crushedreams..
Use loktite on the screws, and get the axle upgrade kit.... $60.00
I don'y have the #. If you go to the Ofna website forum, a lot of people in there know, and can give you pointers on it too.
Read the "notices and upgrades" section on the site also. There is a recall on the diff. gears.

Hey everyone,
I just got an lx pro, and i'm trying to find out if anyone has any info on what temps them .25 engine should be running. It runs pretty hot and is also a pisser to tune.
Adivice is appreciated. Thanks.

soslo
01-04-2003, 09:52 AM
From the posts on the ofna site, most are running around 260 to 270. Ofna said 220 to 250 though.
I ain't touchn' th tuning part!! hehe! I don't have one of those engines.
Just tune it to the lowest temp. you can. The screws are really touchy, so tune it 1/8 of a turn at a time. If you can screw the top screw in, to make it run good, I would leave it at that.
I have heard conflicting things about it being a 2 needle or 3 needle carb also.
If it is a 3 needle, don't touch the midrange screw, below the top screw. It is preset from the factory.

coyote660
01-04-2003, 11:07 AM
you tune for performance...not temperature...

soslo
01-04-2003, 11:19 AM
Very true coyote660... But you don't want to cook the motor, by running it at 300 degrees plus, just because it hauls a** either.
Just have to find a motors "HAPPY PLACE".
Temp guns have been good to me!:)

coyote660
01-04-2003, 11:42 AM
very true slo...you don't want to run em at 300 but you can't be a slave to a temp gun either... they are an important tool...

soslo
01-04-2003, 12:05 PM
LOL!! Also very true coyote!
A temp gun is merely for reference, to help "guide" you through the tuning process.
There is no "set temp" any motor must have in order to run properly. It will help you know if you are too lean (hot), or too rich (cold).
It is just another tool, and does makes it simlpler than putting spit all over the head. hehe!! :)

I need some help here guys.......
I sold my MT Racer and now I have 600.00 burning a hole in my pocket!!

Im new to buggy's so Im not sure about the Ofna's

I was looking at the OFNA 9.5 MBX RTR Ready to Race
PART #34955 RTR

I dont need a RTR but thats all they have.....

Any suggestions.....

i had a mbx but these guys talked me into the hyper 7 pro comes with a lot of good parts and upgrades. i fisrt looked at the mugens but choose the hyper pro won alot of races that buggy. personally i don't like rtr's all the stuff that comes with them you just get rid of anyways it is all low end stuff. get strong servos and the rb powerplant or os you won't regret it.

-=ADA$=-
01-04-2003, 04:51 PM
ill second that tune for performance, and when youll see performance drop while leaning the engine, richen it up a bit, 1/16 or 1/8 turn, and you should be good, it doesnt meant that if its as lean as possible its best, the youll see it lack the speed, or shuts off due to lack of fuel,

morfracerX
01-04-2003, 05:49 PM
every OFNA i hgave ever had has been a TANK and has yet to let me down, they are great for their price and will keep up with all of the top brand buggies.

Is there any reason that you really want the MBX 9.5? there is a 9.5 pro that you can get for around $350-400, it's a great buggy and if you plan on racing it it will work out better then any RTR. you also might want to look into the hyper 7 pro , from what people around the boards say it's one of the best things out of the OFNA camp. as long as you stay with the higher end ofna's you cant go wrong (worlds 2 hyper 7 rtr or pro and any 9.5)

you will be very happy

mtracer
01-04-2003, 06:15 PM
No reason on the MBX....
I just looks like a nice package.......
It also has the .25

I have a M8 Radio and Hi torque servos, so all I need is a 80% vehicle.

What hop-ups does the Pro have....
For a 500.00 kit with no engine you would think it would have everyhing in it.....

Any suggestions on an Engine??

I am considering getting an ofna 9.5 mbx. Is this a good buggy? If I get one I would have to sell my t maxx. Is getting a buggy worth selling my t maxx? Also, how do buggies handle in tall grass and rough, rocky terrain that I'm used to driving through with my t maxx? I've had my t maxx for about a year and I've built and driven different rc cars before so I'm not at all a begginer.

Thanks

morfracerX
01-04-2003, 07:01 PM
IMHO anything is worth selling the tmaxx for, i'm not picking on the maxx i just think they're blah blah blah

Anyway to get to the point yes you will be more then happy with a 9,5, but why do so many people want the MBX? That thing is going to be very hard to set up right and very easy for a newcomer (as well as anyone else) to mess up a very nice buggy (as far as set up's). Stick with the c-hub 9.5 the MBX is more for the hardcore racers that "need" to dial in their buggy for a track

Also take note that you wont be able to run the 9.5 on rocks and in tall grass like the maxx. 1/8 buggies are the F-1's of the r/c world and sit much lower to the ground then and maxx.

You might want to look at getting a dom or MP you will get that 1/8 size and will be able to run like that maxx but with out all the needed hop up's to race. Wish you had asked a few days ago i just sold my MP to get a Titan or Dom (have no made up my mind).

MT if you're going to be racing at a track with other people i would say get the hyper 8 port but if you dont mind spending the cash run with the s7

run a search on ebay for Item # 3100722995 and you will see some of what makes a 9.5 a pro.

Also run a search on Item # 3104710527 for a 9.5 MBX with the .25 (know that some people will cry and whine about you racing with a .25)

your steering servo burnt out??? wow, i guess i will need to get a high torque servo. check out acehardwarehobbies.com, or ebay or tower, any place where you can find one. my personal thoughts is all high torque servos work about the same way. a friend of mine has airtronics and another has some other named brand that i never heard of and they work the same way, another words they do the same job. but one was 90, and the other was 60. oh and check through rc car action, check every lhs that they have listed, you are bound to find a deal. i found some stores on the mag cheaper then tower, and i always thought tower was the cheapest place around.

Hey, I don't have an 1/8 scale yet, but I'm looking into getting one. I do have an E-Maxx though, so I know a thing or two about high-torque servos, and I run a Hitec 5645. It's digital and high torque, and only about 55-60 bux from Tower. It's a hell of a good servo for the price. Anybody have suggestions on what buggies are sweet? I like the Ultra LX Pro because it looks good, and it's cheap. I like the Hyper 7 because it has a damn good engine and it got awesome reviews from Car Action. I like the Xterminator because it just looks like quality to me. I don't particularly like the HB Lightning, but I've read that it's pretty good. I've never even seen any of them in person, and obviously haven't driven any of them. Hell, I haven't even driven nitro cars yet, but I want one (I have 4 electric vehicles at the moment, but I'm trying to sell 2 of them, anybody want 'em?). Anyways, the OFNA stuff seems to be pretty good, but so does the other stuff on the market. I wouldn't be racing the thing any time soon, but I might in the distant future, but it's not really a concern right now. It would just be a basher, and it would see A LOT of pavement. Anyways, I g2g, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I JUST HELPED OUT MY COUSIN TUNING HIS BRAND NEW OFNA MBX PRO, THIS THING IS SWEET FOR THE MONEY, THE .25 ENGINE THAT IT COMES WITH, IT WAS A BREEZZZZ TO START, THREE PULLS, NEED TO GET A BETTER GLOW PLUG THOUGH, THE ONE THAT IT COMES WITH SUCKS. AND GET ANOTHER PERSON TO HOLD IT DOWN ON THE FIRST FEW PULLS, SINCE IT IS NEW IT IS STIFF. HE TOOK IT OUT TO THE TRACK, AND MAN IT BLEW AWAY SOME OF THE GUYS WHO HAD RACE READY ENGINES, .21 PICCO TYPE DEALS. OH AND HE HAD TO PUT THREAD LOCK ON EVERY THING THAT WAS ON IT. that thing is still ticking and it took a a.. kicking:D and p.s. dont get it from tower, they are too expensive, tower has great deals, but not on everything

i just bought a lx pro on like Dec. 13th i think. already the pullstart has come apart because of the screws not being tightend in the assymbly line i guess. the diffs were missing shims and the front one nearly unloaded because of it. however im not complaining i love this buggy.

i have a weird problem i have asked several people in the chat room and i have gotten four different responses. here is the problem see what you think it is because i dont know.

only in the first tank i run through it, it will lean way out for like a half a second then clear out. it sounds like it does when you let it idle out of fuel. only in the first tank of the day though and it doesnt do it again untill the next day.

these are the responses i have gotten i dont want to start tareing my motor apart if i dont have to.

1. carb leaking at the base where it goes into the engine
2. pressure line from tank to exhaust pipe is too short.
3. head gasket leaking.
4. dirt either in lines or carb.

only one that makes any sense to me is the leaking carb base. but why would it not do it all the time. i dont know which is why im asking for your help. i really really love this buggy i dont want to mess it up.

TXTRCR
01-08-2003, 12:21 AM
i have a solution for the faulty diffs, this is how i corrected my lx pro diffs, i tore them down and found two shims the would fit the shafts that the two large bevel gears ride on. see i was driving my buggy and i noticed that the front wheels would slide every once and a while. so i took them apart and noticed that when you pull the two shafts that connect to the drive shafts apart and turn them opposite directions the gears would ocasionally hang up. so shims help hold the gears in the center of the diff (two large bevel gears and four small bevel gears) nice and snug. and there you have it no more simi locked diffs.

No need to be a smart ass PNE :D :D

i use to have a W2 and i loved the hell out of it, it use to be ofna's flagship buggy untill the 9.5 came out. i forgot if it's boe or dan, but it is far better then the gtlx the andything else in the ofna line up short of the H7 and the 9.5.

They did kind of stop making the W2 but in a way not. the MBX r2+ (make sure it has the "+") is almost the same buggy as the W2. if you look at it it's nothing like the rest of the lx's and gt's and all the other buggies ofna has out. the main thing that makes me favor it over the rest of the ofna line is that rear brace, i hated that thing on my gtlx and told myself i would never get anoner buggy designed like that again .(sold gtlx week after it got here).

if i had not got my 9.5 i would have gotten the r2+ the H7 or W2.

who makes hop-up/replacement parts for ofna buggies besides ofna?

doesgo
01-08-2003, 10:40 PM
The P4 in my GT LX is running hot and when I richen it up enough to stay under 280 degrees, it's rather slow. What to do?

I could get a tall aftermarket cooling head for $60 and an RB 086 pipe for another what, $60? But that's $120 to keep my engine cool and get it to put out some decent power.

For that kind of money, would it be better just to go directly to a Hyper 8-port or "regular" Hyper 21? Are those engines noticably more powerful than the P4? Would either of those Hypers work okay with the stock P4 header and pipe or would those choke a Hyper?

Any other suggestions? Sure, an S7 would be great, but that's out of my range.

I'm just curious, how are you guys bending shock towers? I have an ultra MBX-R2 that regularly gets thrashed. We've broken front lower control arms, nose skid plate, wings and supports, and even ruined a muffler, but my shock towers are in good shape(I just double checked). See most of us are not racers. We like to do insane jumping, flips and so what. what bent my rear sock towers(shock and ofna cnc) were bad landings involing chart wheeling. The wing causing stress on the rear shock towers and bent it. I personally never bent a front shock tower, but I've seen penty bent.

Regarding bending front towers, I think landing upside-down is a good start, and if you have any speed and are landing on a hard surface, that helps too.

i clocked my mbx going 40 mph, well 39, and then a 41, with a cops radar detector. i thought it was doing like 30, i guess i am wrong. but if you tune it correctly it will go 40, if you throw in other hop ups, i am sure it can go alot faster. i like it, it hauls ....:D

sorry for asking this because there's probably someone that already did, but there's like 75 pages which would take hours to look through. so anyway i was wondering how the ultra lx pro was like. for 300 bucks rtr, you get a .25 engine and it goes like 44mph. seems kinda cheap. does it skimp out on durability or something? lemme know whatcha think of it because it sounds like a great deal

The Hyper is HoBao, and the MBX is HongNor. Sooo... I dduuuunnnooooo???
If it fits where it touches... Go for it!! And if that don't work... Get a bigger hammer.
That is what we learned at the GM training centers!! hehe!! :)
One thing I never learned to do was to put the smoke back in the wires after it leaked out. A hammer doesn't work. Have you got a part # for the special tool for smoke installation?
Anyone else need any help with their buggy?? ;)

I din't realize that they were 2 different companies.I figured they were akin to Chevy and General Motors. I have some titanium laying around,Bet that will at least make some pretty white sparks if I flip it!

I don't know of a smoke re-installation tool, but electrical tape seems to work as a decent stop leak.:D

BTW: Hammers are pretty cool, but few tools can make things fit like an air chisel!

i think it is an ok car. if you have an extra 100 bucks or so, buy a 9.5. it is a nice ride for the money. i saw a lx pro run, and it ran just as fast, as for durability, the 9.5 is better. there is alot of recalls for the lx pro. my cousin got the mbx pro, it comes with extra tires and rims, to me it looks just like the lx pro, then agian they probably fixed all the defects on the mbx pro, since it just came out not too long ago. all in all get the 9.5 if you can afford it, if not get the mbx pro, and if you cant afford that then get the lx.:D

after the proper RTR "inspection" i found that when i turn the front wheels to about 1/3rd of a turn left the steering bellcrank makes a loud 'click' like noise. is this normal? it doesnt seem to affect anything involving the steering. theres no resistance, just a click. i checked to make sure everything was tight and such, but the noise is still there.

any ideas?

soslo
01-12-2003, 06:29 PM
Take it loose, a piece at a time. until you find what it is. Does it do it without the servo connected? Sounds like it could be a gear broke a tooth in the servo. The gears are not expensive and easy to replace.
You should aslo be able to feel where it pops the most, with your finger.

TXTRCR
01-13-2003, 12:58 AM
actually what that noise is, is the steering linkage sliding up and down on the two shafts on the front of the car and clicking aginst the chassis my Ultra LX Pro does it too. if it bothers you that much take that aluminum peice thats held on by the five screws on the front behind the shock tower and put some shims on top of the shafts, and this will quiten it down a bit. i didnt because i like a lot of slack in the steering it doesnt hurt any thing. you cant hear the noise with the car running only when you turn the wheels by hand it make the noise.

i am looking to buy a 1/8 buggy soon either the OFNA Ultra LX Pro or the Hot Bodies Lgithning RR RTR. how is the OFNA overall? how is its...durability? speed? engine? handling? servo? jumping(air time)? landing? radio? acceleration? braking?. also how is the maintenance (easy to clean and repair [or does it depend on part]). IS THIS THE BUGGY FOR ME?

TXTRCR
01-13-2003, 09:13 PM
i have one and they are sweet, the engine is a little hard to break in because of the compression of the engine when its new, if you glow ignitor is not charged your arm will get sore from pulling the rope.

speaking of pull ropes, mine broke one week after i bought it, so make sure the screws are tight through out the hole car if you get it, thats why mine broke the parts of the pull start were fine but the spring became unattached to the housing causing the rope not to recoil. but no problem i emailed ofna and they will replace it for free.

another thing to watch out for is the diffs, some of the cars did not include diff shims and the gears in the diffs will seperate from each other causing the front or rear end to all of the sudden become posi track. but no problem with that either email ofna and they will send you a set of shims and gears for free.

other than that the buggy is just awsome, with a little tuning of the suspension, and servos the car hauls butt like approx. 50mph, jumps like a cat, flies like an eagle, and lands with the greatest of ease. the car will require a high torque steering servo to steer the beast but after you get that your well on you way to a fun day at the track. or the backyard or where ever you choose to run your buggy.

if you plan to race the buggy you may have to change the engine because the .25 is not legal on some tracks.

above all and most important check to make sure the screws are tight before and after you run the car, and if you see one backing out, pull it and loctite it, this goes for any rc car you get.

well any RTR rc car that is.

"i was just wondering" but i was thinking that if i was to cut the fuel lines to be shorter will the engine run different? will it cause it to get more fuel flow? i am thinking yes but then agian that is why you have the carb. but maybe the carb wasnt designed for that amount of fuel rate type deal. well my question is can i cut the fuel lines to make them shorter? also i figure i will get less run time, but i dont think it will effect the run time by much. i just figure i can ask any body on here for help on some knowledge, i will greatly appreciate the help. thinking about putting a fuel filter to compensate, those lines just get in the way.

FYI,
According to RCCA's latest issue, the LX Pro (stock) tested to 46 mph. According to my friend's Bushnell radar gun, my GT LX with the Force 21 (tuned a bit too lean and with a 15-tooth bell) goes 42 mph.

JIMMYBANGBANG
01-16-2003, 01:20 PM
yea we ran the mbx pro by the cop here on base he clocked it going 43 44 and 45. we didnt even lean the engine out, i wonder how fast the .25 can really go

mercenario27
01-16-2003, 05:19 PM
Last summer we clocked a GTLX w/ Force .21(260-280f) doing 42mph w/ wing. We took off the wing and it did 44mph. My MBX R2 w/Hyper .21 did 45mph. I wasn't about to take my wing off to gain 2mph, to much work.
I think the force .25 has the same top end as the force .21, but I the .25 has more lowend. I bet you were to drag a Force .21 and a .25 head to head, I think to force .25 would get to top speed a lot quicker

JIMMYBANGBANG
01-16-2003, 06:31 PM
.25 is nice, and yes there are .21 out there that will take that engine, but my point is, you can pay 200 plus on a .21 that has 2.5 horse power or more, then you can pay 100 for the .25 and it has 2.5 off the back...lol, and yes you cant race the .25 but it is fun to run. picks up nice.:D

mercenario27
01-16-2003, 09:28 PM
I say with low cost engines. I have a Hyper .21 in my MBX R2 and I just bought a force .25 for my Dominator, it had a Hyper .21 in until it died. I still have a new Hyper .21 waiting for my project .21 Nitro MT to be finished

Ferocity02

I clocked my Ultra GT LX at 61mph. It's running a RB WS7 with 20% nitro. It was clocked without any carb restrictor, CVEC on the 4th setting, and a 16T clutch bell.

I love this engine!!! After several speed runs the head is still nothing but a hand warmer. The only problem is at those high speeds the tires start to come off the rims...

Once I get my on road tires, 25% nitro monster horsepower, and an 18t clutch bell I'll see what kind of speeds I can pull out.

doesgo
01-17-2003, 01:49 AM
Holy crap! That's some crazy speed, man. I love it.

I'm debating what to replace my Force 21 with, a Hyper 21, Hyper 21 8-port, Force 25, O.S. RG, or Ofna/Picco Sport 21. I'd love an S7 or WS7, but that $230-$280 pricetag doesn't coincide with my bashing budget.

Any opinions on these engines?

hello from greece!
since u all got ofna's i thought i should ask some questions cause i'm thinking of mailordering one.here in greece even the cheapest buggys begin from 600euros($600).
anyway i'm interested in the ultra lx pro sold from towerhobbies for $309.99.the point is that i heard many things about differentials that are defective and about the engine that is difficult to break in and start in general.on the other hand there is no representative for this brand in greece(the only ones here in greece are kyosho and thundertiger) so i guess i will mailorder some spares to come along with the car.which parts do u think are easier to need replacemant?
thanx in advance

ps sorry for my long post.

doesgo
01-17-2003, 12:34 PM
The diffs aren't inherently defective, but they may be missing some needed shims which will cause the gears to wear out prematurely. All you need to do is order the shim kit when you buy the buggy and you'll be set. Costs about $9 and comes with enough shims for all three diffs, a diff o-ring, and some other stuff.

If you want to set yourself up for breakage, I'd try to obtain a couple of rear axle stubs and rear uprights as well as a replacement wing or two. I'm a basher and a bad driver so I gave up on keeping a wing on my buggy.

An additional set of wheel/tires might be wise, especially if you plan to run on pavement at all. The stock tires won't last.

I'd also suggest buying a failsafe unit, a rechargeable 5-cell receiver pack, silicone diff oil, silicone shock oil, and some fuel line. But maybe you can get that stuff locally.

Have fun!

there is no better in this one, MBX is more adjustable, MBX is more complex, but C-hub doesnt need as much maintence, cause it can be a bit har to set MBX properly at the beginning!! so which one you like MBX is more adjustabilitie, and C-Hub is ease, cause for MBX some tunning gauge would be welcome, or plain calipers

Ofna are the American distributors of Ho Bao (Hyper 7) and Hong Nor (9.5)cars, they don't make their own cars. In Europe you can get Ho Bao parts quite easily but I think it's tricky to get Hong Nor parts. If you do find somewhere that sells them it won't be under the name Ofna.

I would go for the Hyper 7 and then you can get parts more easily, Three 5 Models (http://www.three5models.co.uk) in the UK say they stock all Hyper 7 parts.

I just cross-referenced the manual for the R2+ and the Worlds II and most of the parts are the same. The different parts are the suspension (duh! Though the R2+ manual shows the build-up of the castor block f/r suspension and these show the use of straight suspension arms instead of the reverse-gullwing arms of the Worlds/WorldsII), and the diffs. Well, I'm not happy with any of the current crop of monster trucks on the market so I figured I could just make a truggy. Originally, I was thinking of selling the Worlds II and buying a MBX R2+ or MP7.5 Sport and converting that but I realised that I would lose my butt selling the W2 and I already have a good buggy that I can convert so there it is.

coyote660, my buddy has a co-worker who's brother lives in Japan. I was thinking of having him buy it and I'll stop through Tokyo to pick it up when I go back at the end of the year. Either that or I can call a young lady who works at my company in our Tokyo office and ask her to do it but I don't know her well enough and feel like I'm imposing. She's in our San Fran office now recovering from surgery so I might be able to ask her for a favor down the road... (No, not that kind of favor, keep your minds out of the gutter! :))

i broke in my 8 port today and got to see some of what the motor could do, the thing is much faster then my old "OLD"! os RX i use to run in my worlds 2. i will try and get to the track on monday and see how she runsin the dirt but time will tell.

for anyone that is thinking about getting one or just got one watch the mid range setting, that thing will get your whole motor out of wack fast with just 1/4 a turn to rich or lean.

Anyone know if there is an aftermarket blue head for the 8port hyper?

01-26-2003, 12:11 AM
On another note while I'm here, I saw my first savage today. Man that thing looks worse then a stock tmaxx (and that's a crying shame). all those plastic parts on a .21 truck, that thing looks like it needs more hop ups then, hell, a TMAXX.

Anyone have any suspension tuning tips for an OFNA Ultra GT LX? I took it to the track today and my suspension looked very different from everyone elses. Mine was a lot higher. I lowered it a little bit. I have a detailed thread in the Nitro Forum with pics of my suspension setup. It's called 'Tuning the Suspension'. Thanks!

Hey morfacerX...
Have you tried here for the head? http://www.crazynutracing.com/
A few people on the Ofna site were talking about them.
You gonna' get a Savage morf? LOL!! :)

Not much on suspension setups here Ferocity02. Just use the stock setup on the Hyper 7, except the pistons are drilled to 55 (w/40wt) in front, and 54 (w/35wt) in the rear. Arms are slighlty above level, but not much. It cuts under 7.5's in the corners with no problemo.

Hey guys I got a problem with this 8 port (freaking loved it when it was running). Anyway I suck at motor tuning and could kill any motor fast, I thought I would ask you guys.

Motor can run at WOT while it's off the ground but while i was at the track today it kept cutting off at wot. we messed with the high end, took it max rich took it as lean as we thought safe.the plug was fine so was the ignitor. one other thing that i noticed was that i could let it idle but when i would smash off it would cut off. one other thing i saw was that after bringing it to max rpm and letting it idle it would shut off aswell. bout the only thing it did do right was idle.

soslo
01-27-2003, 05:36 PM
Not much telln' morf..
I am not the worlds best myself, but usually figure things out.
Sounds like it is just plain too lean BUT..
Are the air filter and fuel filter clean? Do you have known good fuel? No air leaks? Pressurize the tank and find out if it holds pressure.
If it is a 4 screw carb., did you mess with the midrange screw? It should be flush with the housing. How many turns out on the top screw (try 2 to 3 turns out from bottom), and is the bottom screw about flush?
Is the flywheel tight, and clutch and bearings good? Head bolts tight?
Did you check compression with the motor hot?
But then again, if it runs fine in the air, but not on the ground under a load, you might check the diffs and all the axle bearings. Something may be locking up in the drivetrain, and killing the motor.
One of these has to cover it!! LOL!!
All I can say is check everything, and
good luck! These motors can be more stubborn than a woman sometimes. :)

fatten up the low end...

morfracerX
01-27-2003, 08:35 PM
Thanks for the tips you two (lol wow soslo). after talking to a few people i they all think it's the low end. when you guys say faten it up you mean lean it out right? i found that funny as i was running at 218-233 so will leaning it out put me over the 265 limit?

i found two other problems.

1: i have no rear brakes, their not fading, their not slipping, i have none period my rear tires free spin. This is an improvment from what happen today when i had none at all, front or rear. o well i have to strip her down and see what the problem is :D :D :D

2: well this isn't a real problem but just somthing that i dont like, anyone else think there is way to much slop in the steering link plate? i will have to put some washers in there or somthing but all that slop says to me is i could be turing faster.

by the way i have a 9.5

01-28-2003, 01:34 AM
Morph: Do you mean slop as in the steering bellcrank moves up and down? Or slop as in the wheels move back and forth, like the wheels steer, but the servo is staying put? If up and down, then that's normal. It lets the tie rods follow the suspension(run the wheel through full travel and see).If side to side, you prolly got worn parts.:)

My brakes are smashing up against my flywheel when I tighten the motormount screws up. but now I cant get the motor mounted right without the dam things binding together. I thought you said you changed the flywheel and it worked??

Well with just front brakes you're not going to be very stable going into turns because you'll be missing the help of the rear brakes to slow that beast down. And you'll probably end up pushing a lot.

After seeing the flywheel/Sumthin' rubbin' on sumthin' post a couple of pages ago, I decided to post this tip (or observation, actually)...anyone with an MBX should check this out right from the box:

First: I bought an MBX RTR from Nitrohouse last year (July). I was having the normal "newbie" problems....break-in went fine, then downhill from there. Here's what happened:

The Force P4 was running hot, which I was told is not unusual. BUT, this was at extremely rich, break-in settings. I took the car to a LHS, and they said the clutch bell was extremely hot after only a couple of minutes of slow run time. (It was...I touched it) The fuel was sizzling in the carb. They thought the clutch was bad, and causing the engine to heat up too much.

After a couple of more on-off throttle runs, the clutch wasn't getting near as hot. (it's fine, now)

The brake disc was rubbing against the clutch bell! I didn't notice it until I did a thorough cleaning, and noticed that the clutch bell had a smooth, kinda different finish on part of the black surface. I put it back together, and found the brake was rubbing on the clutch. I didn't take any action, because the clutch bell wore the outside edge of the rotor down, and the buggy started runnning a little better. (I stuck with it) After some carb tuning tips form this board....The thing runs like a scalded dog.

Bottom line: The brake rotor was rubbing on the clutch bell, causing it to heat up.....this, in-turn caused the fuel to boil or "sizzle" at the front of the carb.

Just thought I'd pass on the tip. I'm mechanically inclined, but I sure missed this really simple thing.

Allen T

hey allen that was me with the rubbing problem

i need three things

1. the factory setting for all three settings or a good place to find them.

2. to know if my problem could be caused by the motor needing to be sent in to ofna or tuned.

3. could this problem be due to what i have heard is an airleak problem with the 9.5's fuel tanks causeing the motor to run to lean.

ok so here we go.

motor will start up just fine and will idel all freaking day and wont have a problem wont die idel is study and to tell the truth turns me on. the problems start when i do anything but let it idle. there is no set grounds for when the dam thing will konk out

it will die out at high revs (tried riching up aswell as leaning out with no luck on the HS)

it will die out after reving all the way up but on the downward revs.

it will die out at mid range like soon as i give it 30% open.

the dam thing will die at any point and time as long as it's not at idle.

What o what should old poor morf do. yes i changed plugs yes i made sure it has fuel yes my lines are clear. everything is yes but this thing running right.

Did i just get a bum hyper 8 prot?

I am using the plug in the wall over night chargers.
After hitting the track and my receiver battery died I need to get a quick field charger......

i use MRC superbrain 959 some say it fals peaks batts, but i think its fault of batteries not charger, and about charger, i think its great, charges 3-8 batteries, do can charge Tx and Rx batts, and also one glow heater cell, adjustable, NiCd and NiMh compatibile, great for me, but dont cycle. but its little disadvantage when it costs less than $50

when i was in your shoes a few years back (when the GT's went for $450) i still didn't want one .Even late last year when i was looking for a new buggy iand the price went down i still didn't want it. i owned a GTLX for about a week and sold it. i hated the whole layout of the buggy and no mater what they price it at i still wont buy another one.

If you are thinking about spendingin the $450 range i would look at getting a RTR hyper 7 or 9.5. i haven't driven my 9.5 in like 2.5 months but i did like the way that thing moves around the track. if you want a buggy at a lower cost but that will still kick some tail at the track look on ebay for an ofna worlds 2.thats another great buggy, i beat the hell out of that thing and it held up great. i still hold it as one of the best bashing/club racers out there for the price.

thanks for the response guys, nut if i spend 450 it will be on the xtm buggy my freind has the hyper 7 and it is very simalar to the gs storm and im not happy with the storm so i wont get a hyper and the 9.5 is going to be a little over 500 and thats to much for me so i have a post in the mbx forum we will see if i get anything negative about these buggies im sure there are negatives they are both under 400 bucks and if your not paying the price you are not getting some of the better parts alright thanks again

The Hyper 7 and GS Storm may be similar. BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. I owned a Hyper 7 and loved that thing till days end. I would get another one in a heartbeat. I almost never had a problem with it.

One thing I'd look at about maybe getting the XTM. Is parts. Make sure your LHS is going to stock parts for it. You don't want to get stuck trying to mail order parts it and get stuck.

Good Luck on your decision.

Im kinda of going between the Hyper7PBS and the 9.5MXB! Both seem really nice with the engine seemingly being the biggest differance??

In the picts it looks like the hyper7 has plastic shock towers or are they black aluminum?? Cause the 9.5 you can tell they are the orange aluminum towers! Engine and the radio dont really matter much to me---so what do think the better of the 2 are???

Another thing and Im not starting anything but I have been looking at the Hotbodies lightning Pro too!! Any insite on that buggy?? seen one in person or racing:cool:

Thats black aluminum ;) I've never run the 9.5 but I've heard good things about it..I believe morfracerX has one. I loved the H7 that thing was awsome!! I don't know if they havea HotBodies thread yet for their buggy..You might wanna check there for info on that one. I don't thnk you can go wrong with either Ofna you pick.Just make sure you pick the one your LHS has parts for ;)

W2 is a great buggy to learn driving and tuning with. Easy to maintain. Once you're comfortable with that..Move up to a H7 Pro or 9.5..The higher end buggies are beefier and can usually withstand harder running.

get an MBX PRO it too is a good buggy to learn on but you wont need to buy a new buggy if you decide to race it

Hey guys, I am a newb to these forums so bear with me. I am also new to nitro 1/8 buggies. I have had an Ofna Ultra GTLX for a little while and desperately need some help. I am using the crappy pull start still and it seems to take a while to start which I have read is normal. But now, when it starts I ease into the throttle and get very, very little movement, but lots of noise. It is extremely loud and I get lots of white smoke. Not sure what it could be, but it won't go over about 5-10 mph and sounds like it will blow up. I have checked the diffs and don't have any gears stripping in them. I am using an O.S. #8 glow plug and have my low speed set to 2 turns out, and my master set to 3 turns out. I am also running Blue Thunder 20%. Please help if you have any ideas!!

THANKS!!!

Hi all,

I race a Kyosho buggy with all the goodies but I've owned some Ofna buggies too and I liked them. My 1st was an MBX R2 and then I had a 9.5 Pro with an OS RZVO1B in it - sweet! Now I just bought an LX Pro... I'm starting a spec class at my local track. We have to run the buggies basically stock; stock motor, pipe, tires, shock springs... etc. We'll be allowed to tune by changing shock and diff oils and all other basic adjustments that don't require adding parts. We'll be allowed to add servos but they can't cost more than $50, they can't be coreless and they can't be digital... good thing because I smoked my junk steering servo during my 1st tank!

This should be a blast!

Anyway, I got through a tank today out on my own track and I definitely had to lean on the needles a bit just to keep it running... no biggie. This thing rips real nice though! It handles the jumps and bumps on my track very well too. I think I'll like this buggy. What are the HP and RPM specs on the .25 motor? Also, what glow plug are you guys running in your .25's? I'm running the Ofna plug now, I was thinking of trying an mc9, good idea?

Thanks

Hey,
I am taking a look at a LX Pro for the summer. Everything looks good, but I have heard that the engine can be quite difficult to deal with/tune. This is sort of a concern with me because I have very little nitro experience, and I would like to have a fun time with it.
Also, are there any upgrade parts I would need to pick up? I should get a better servo as well, correct? What would work well for this buggy?

thanks, Kyle.

Kyle,

I would ignore anyone who says the Force .25 is difficult in any way. I am a very experienced nitro guy myself but I've just purchased an LX Pro and I don't find the Force .25 any harder to tune than any other engine out there. I took the LX Pro to the track last night and ran almost a gallon through it! I usually burn 1/2 gallon or less on race night but last night I burned over 3/4 of a gallon. The engine ran great, never stalled and was a breeze to tune. The Ofna glow plug that comes with the car is junk. I went with an OS #8 plug and the engine ran noticeably better than it did with the Ofna plug.

As for upgrades; the servos are very weak and my steering servo broke right away. I upgraded to a Hitec 645mg and 625mg for steering and throttle respectively. If you just plan to bash around with the car you can probably get away with just upgrading the steering servo... you'll probably want more stopping power in the future though ;)

good luck

All right, thanks man!

Right now I am not sure if I am going to get a 1/8th buggy or not, but if I were it sounds like I would get an LX, I really hope to get one.

Oh yeah, I have a few other questions...

Whats the best price you guys have seen on the LX? Right now 300$ seems to be pretty damn good for a 1/8th buggy, but saving money is always a preferance for me.

What fuel do you guys prefer? As I said above I am pretty much a nitro newbie, so I am not sure what fuel I would use...

And one more; What receiver packs would you guys suggest? I am not looking for weight savings here, more like what one would I have to charge the least...

Thanks,
Kyle. :)

I bought mine at my LHS for $310 which I think is a smokin' price for what you get.

I use Blue Thunder 20% in all my engines... I've always used it and I have no problems with it.

I run 1100mah Rx packs in my cars and I can do a lot of running between charges.

I should add that although I've done a lot of running at the track with the LX Pro, I also did some ripping around the yard and this car is a hoot! I've never really bashed around any of my racing rigs before. I have 2 GT's and a Kyosho 7.5 (sweet!) and they only run at the track. I've always had a monster truck for beating around the yard but let me tell you, the LX Pro is way more fun than an MT for backyard bashing IMO.

good luck

Thanks for the quick reply. :)

Hmmm, I have been working on getting my old FT GT back together (needs some major work!), I will see how I like it, who knows....maybe I'll end up with two nitro rigs! :)

Oh, and what configuration does the rx pack need to be in? Will this one work? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVG15&P=7

Thanks again,
Kyle :)

Hmmm..... I'm not sure if that will work. The radio box is pretty large so it might. I use the 2x3 configuration and it fits perfect.

FT GT huh? Now you're talkin'! If I could only have one RC car, it would be my GT hands down!

Yeah, I bought it used from a friend, I was having tons of fun with it, even though the old engine was a POS, it was have some serious engine troubles so I shelved it. Now I am fixing it up and hope I can get it workin. :)

I guess I'll just try and find a 2x3 configuration...

Hey guys, it's been quite a while since I've been here, since I sold my Ofna and all. Just wanted to mention I have some spare parts for the ultra series buggies for sale in the B/S/T forum.

I figure since I'm the originator of the thread and all, it would be okay to plug here. :D :D :D
