Post about your Traxxas Stampede. Mine has a black Chevy Silverado body, 12- turn mod, Tekin Rebel ESC, Duratrax Gold Shocks, Steel Outdrives, RPM Talonz, and a blue gear cover.
It's a great jump truck.

Stock body, 16 turn Speed Gem, Rooster, and currently no steering servo since I sent it back to FMA. :)

Surely there must be more people with Stampedes out there. Does anyone have the ball diff for the Stampede or Rustler? Or anyone know where I can find anything graphite or aluminum to fit my Stampede?

I've got the rustler, its nitro but you can look in the back of the manual and look at the optional parts list and go to tower hobbies web site and type the part number and you will see the part you typed in. Or you can find a stampede and look for the optional parts.
Go to parts express and you sould find some. and shiping is only 3.99 from parts express.

I'm already a member of Tower's Super Savers Club. Just ordered about a week ago. Got a new Green Machine for my TC3.

how far have you all jumped your stampedes. I'm getting a monster truck soon and want a jumper. I'd say they could jump farther than T-maxxs at a lesser weight.

theres a monster truck class at my local track and i am thinking of getting a stampede and racing in it. I like how you can custom stampedes so much and they are incredibly cheap in comparison to buying an e-maxx.

My Stampede was my first R/C vehicle I got. It has a 132oz.in. torque servo, LRP F1 Reverse ESC, a MVP stock motor, a 200mm HPI Dodge Ram body and DuraTrax Slant Spike tires. It isn't the most expensive, but it is a lot of fun and it can haul. I love my Stampede :D

06-27-2001, 12:20 AM
Sorry about the wait. It is a Hobbico servo. It has ball bearings, metal gears, and it costs about $40. Picked it up at HobbyTown.
It is HCAM0190.

TC3Racer316, Check out this web site http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/ultimate/stampede.asp. (http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/ultimate/stampede.asp) From what I can tell, The Jang has done considerably well racing his E-Pede. I've been modifying mine in somewhat the same way. I've already lightened the chassis a bit and chopped the body mounts to help lower the CG. I was little nervous starting out, but have to admit, I really like the looks of it so far. I'm getting an F-150 stadium truck body for it this weekend. I can't wait. I've had my Stampede for about 6 months and just started modifying it. I'm having a blast. I haven't entered a race, yet, but I have been to a local track. At the time, I had only the stock manual speed control and it seemed to run pretty decent, then. Now I have the Futaba Magnum Sport package with the MC230CR ESC and must say that I can tell a difference in battery life and responsiveness. I'm getting quite the itch to hit one of the local tracks, now. :D

I don't race my pede, but it makes a great play truck. Jumps good too. My best jump yet was a 31-foot jump. I put a piece of plywood on top of a big garbage can. That was with the stock 20-turn. I plan to try it again with the 12-double.

I made my own mounting plate. I took a thick piece of plastic and cut it to the width of the chassis. Then I drilled out hole so I could put it where the M.S.C was. Then I just servo-taped my Rebel on there. Holds up pretty good.

As you can see I've put quite a few things on it. Purple Losi shocks, Purple RPM items of all types, RPM rims with Pro-line tires, and this was my second paintjob using Parma Fascolor paint (usually used Pactra). I'm using a Tekin Rebel ESC, Futaba radio and 9303 servo, Lightspeed 18 turn motor, and misc. 1700/2000 batteries. Haven't really run it yet since I've gotten it together but it looks good! :D

The antenna is just a left over piece of lexan from a body I cut out. I usually save these pieces if they're big enough because this is how I do the antennas on all my cars. Gives them a more "real" look.

I have a Rustler and I race it. I just sent off a order to Tower today for some hop ups. I ordered:
MIP shiny CVDs
RPM bearing carriers
Duratrax 5x11 bearings
Proline Chrome Agitator wheels
Pro line Speed hawg tires
Trinity aluminum front suspension brace

At the track we race on road. I haven't gotten a chance to really tune my truck to the track yet. I still have dirt hawgs on it! But I do pretty well still.

Parts I am going to add in the future are the GPM shock towers, front bulkhead and shims. Also the RPM gear cover and GS racing aluminum hex head screws and washers. Lunsford Super Duty titanium turnbuckles and RPM Super Duty ball ends. Most of these parts fit the Pede so if ya need part # lemme know.

I am putting the Machined Ball diff in my rustler so I can adjust my diff easier. I'll let ya know how it goes. I am looking for the machined tranny gears for the Pede/Rustler. The idler gear and the top gear have to be used together but NO ONE has the machined top gear! Does anyone have these gears, if so where did you find the Top gear?

tc3 racer, make sure you add weight to the front. I pulled around my t3 and my pede lifted the wheels ALOT. and dont gas it all at once, let it on a little at a time. if anything, move your battery to the front. you can add weight to the rear for traction too.

who has a better story than this. MY friend and I were driving our stampedes togather one day when i realized what a great opportunty the woodchip pile at the end of the driveway would be for a huge jump. We both got creative got a rake and shovel and made a beutiful jump that a real gradual curve to it. Anyways we come flinging down the driveway with 16 turn speed as fast as we possibly can we hit this huge woodchip pile jump (5' high) and go sailing into the air of the end of the driveway and down a really really steep hill that is about 150 yds long. (im serious) we continued this until about the 5 battery or so when suddenly chassis gave way. The little pegs that fit around the gear box and then have screws going through the top and bottom broke. We measured our landings and found that we were landing a good 35 to 40 feet from the jump and roughly hitting about 15 feet of air. If you have an awsome story like this please share it and explain to us what you broke doing it. I plan to do this again but im going to need to find a way to beef up my chassis this time around.

The only weekness to the stampede is the stock hub carriers. The ball bearings are made small to fit into them and they will break often. I would reccomend you get the rpm parts instead, these will allow you to put in bigger bearings.(5/8" I think) the truck is a lot of fun and is cheap to replace parts, which makes large jumps and lots of abuse much more fun when you aren't paying alot for parts. This is my 2 cents worth.

My friend had a stampede and man was that a fun truck to mess around with. It was a great car/truck to start with. After about 2 years of him having it we decided to go all out with it and jumped out the back window of a two story house. He broke the skid plates, the chassis, and the gears in the gear box are now stripped. Man was it fun though. It now lies in peace and parts.

depends on the motor, expect speed of a typical staduim truck but a little bit slower.

I got a pede project brewing right now. I just dont got any pics now, so I'll tell you guys about it. I'm amking the pede a 4x4 independant suspension truck with a 4 link setup, like a clod. I have built a custom chassis so far and batt mount custom linkk mounts on the tranny, servo mounts and many other things. I am in the process of building links right now. I am also going to be running maxx tires, on RPM stablemaxx rims so i get the clearance I need. the truck will have about a 14-15'' WB and is about 12-13'' wide. Its huge. Wont be a speed demons but I wanna use it for rock crawling hill climb and for goign over other types of extreme terrain.

Hey, I have a Stampede and just love it. It has a Dodge body ,painted blue. I added an electronic speed control, dean's plugs, softened the springs which makes it hug the ground really well and I am in the process of changing the bushings to ball-bearings and adding smaller proline tires for road/hardpack. I hope the smaller tires drop the ride height just enough as this truck is a little tippy. All in all I love my Stampede, it handles well and is very fast with the stock 20-turn Stinger motor. It jumps really well and is all around fun. I will soon add a faster motor and change the gearing and see what happens. Always remember....The Stampede Rocks!! I will post a picture of it as soon as I get the new tires on it!!

My pede just got done spending 8 months in the closet in my room. It has no body right now, losi shocks, ball bearing parodox, rpm axle carriers, rpm gear cover, ball berings, shiny CVDs, slipper clutch and dirt hawgs on it. I put it on the track a week ago and was surprised how well it handled and how fast it went with 1500 sport packs. Hopefully it will see some jumps later this summer.

tonytaz-when you put smaller wheels on expect a huge decrease in your speed. I put regular stadium truck tires on mine but took them off because it is so slow with them. Just thought I would let you know.
Thanks for finally speeking up around here. Lets keep this forum going!

big white gear is the spur gear the littler metal one is the pinion gear, on a stock pede their is a 18 tooth pinion and 87 or 84 tooth spur gear.....

Why not just buy an Emaxx? Um, cuz I don't want to lol. I luv building projects and being different, as you can see. I get the same runtime of a maxx, same speed, and I am only using one battery (Though it is an 8 cell)

I have just as mmuch fun as a maxx, with half the downtime, and I can trully call this truck mine :)

What size tires fit for the N stampede... i hear it takes 2.2, but am having a hell of a time finding the right size rims that aren't made by traxxas...

i think i want aluminum rims... does anyone know of somebody that makes them?

Yes any 2.2 will work but the best ones are mashers, masher 2000, and the stock tires.....As for rims... the only ones are RPM's or the stock ones... unless u buy Thuder Tech's extrand a block

I have heard you cant run metal on metal b/c of radio interference but is that true? I am going to switch the middle gear to a metal and the top to a plastic and see if this lasts.

My Stampede's got a D4 16*2, integy 2400 matched, Novak Rooster. This combination is AWESOME!! If you decide to put some serious distance between your truck and the ground, may I suggest landing on something soft. I jumped my Stampede about 10 feet high and 22 feet long and landed on concrete. BAD idea. Broke the rear end off the truck. Again. Maybe I'll make some aluminum ladder bars.......

Do you guys actually run your truck with the slipper? I run a 16 turn in my truck and I realize that is still not what some of you have in yours. I have a really bad problem with stripping gears inside the gearbox. The idler gear (in the middle it is plastic) has been stripped at least five or six times now. I replaced it with an aluminum one but then I stripped the differential. What can I do?

broken_parts
02-27-2002, 08:40 AM
I run the slipper, works good, tighten it all the way, then back it off about 1/8th of a turn... U can have ur machiset shop machine u a alumnium diff gear ring, so then it would be unstopable...

As for all your gear stripping probs just run the slipper so that when you start from a dead stand still it slips for the first foot and a half or 2 this will save your gears..

i am planning on getting the stampede kit and some "kits" come prebuilt just without the electrics, thats why they call the kits i want to know if the stampede "kit" is a real kit or just prebuilt, also, does it come with the slipper clutch cause i have heard that those kits at tower are old and dont have a slipper clutch

aphex4000
03-09-2002, 05:13 AM
I ordered a kit from Tower Hobbies mid February while it was expected to arrive in "Late Feb." Unfortunately the kit has not arrived yet and the stock status has been changed to "Mid Mar."

According to the features list at Tower, the slipper clutch is included in the kit:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXJE56&P=7

I'm not sure if "kit" requires assembly. Tower's page lists, "Assembly instructions (for maintenance,)" in the list of included items which could imply the kit is already assembled.

 Nice thread going on here.

I run my Pede almost totally stock apart from some custom machined front A arms that I made myself and some custom hinge pins. Oh yeah, and a ModelTech brushless motor... this adds a whole new dimension to the truck. It will wheelie very easily on stock tyres and lasts about 20mins mixed running on 6 unmatched 2400s. I have been impressed with the toughness of the truck, I have only stripped 1 idler gear and this was because I forgot to install all the gearbox screws. Never had a problem since.

For those of you who were wondering about the kit I am pretty sure you have to build it. I Would really reccomend this because than you know the truck inside and out. I could put one togather w/out the instructions now. THe building process is quite simple. I have built three of these know, one got crushed by a suburban (OWW) the other is the one i have now and I also built one for my bro. If your going to bash this beast around you better build it b/ I guarantee you will find yourself breaking some parts but dont worry as you get better at driving you wont break as much and you can do just as much bashing. There is my 2 cents worth . I hope it helps.

I assume you mean the machine I made the A-arms with. It is an Emco Unimat 3, there is a lot of info about these table top machines on the web. I got mine second hand for about the same as $150 or so, but I am in the UK. Don't know if these machines are still available in the US. You could make a chassis on this machine, although you might have to move it around a bit, it would be about the biggest thing it could easily handle.

Hey Mike. You probably won't need the ESC mount but you can always get it to be sure. I think it like 4 bucks. My question is does anyone have a video of a Stampede. Also has anyone tried crawling with their Stampede even though it 2WD. Besides Bigger Cariers and Bearings are there any other must have hop-ups. I Kinda am thinking about getting one to bash with. I can't seem to get my T3 to do what I think a Stampede is capable off. Also I want to try my hand at making some custom alumunim parts and I know there are alot of Stampede owners out there.

I JUST got my Stampede from Tower late last week. They seem to have been out of stock for about a month and a half.

If you're looking for a list of essential upgrades for this truck, you can find it at this site:

http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/ultimate/stampede.asp

I own a Futaba esc as well, and I find it is very convenient to have the RPM esc mount. The mount gives you an even surface to mount on and an easy way to remove the esc during routine maintenance.

Bye the way, the stock tires have much greater traction on uneven or gravel surfaces with additional grooves cut into the treads. Cutting all the tires takes about two hours but it's well worth it. Here is a picture of my tires after the work:

Ive had my pede for about two weeks and I love it. It has a speedgems 14t double, rebel esc, full bearings with rpm carriers, rpm yellow gear cover & esc mount, gs racing servo saver (yellow), associated gold shocks (off an old 10T), losi springs (yellow rear and pink front), traxxas "dish" wheels, robinson racing 14 tooth pinion, kimbrough 87 tooth spur and hpi alumanim wheel nuts. This setup works very well, Im also running sanyo 2400's with powerpole connectors.
Ive also done some dremel work to the truck and lightened it considerably. I cut battery slots in the chassis, shaved the a-arms, cut slots in both shock towers and lowered the body about an inch (I know they did the same things at ultimatetraxxas.com, but it WORKS!). My pede can keep up with my friends xxt on the track, and at the samtime out-bash any other truck on the market.

BTW, Kewel thread going here!

Hey all,

Nice thread going here, lets keep it alive.

I have had my pede for close to a year now. I think its a wonderful truck and has lots of potential.

As for some of the earlier questions. The kit is truly a kit. EVERYTHING needs to be built. Right down to building the shocks and putting the tires on the rims. Overall its a pretty easy kit to assemble.

I had some problems getting the shocks to seal properly and a few Speed control problems. But a set of Big Bore shocks and a Electronic Speed control took care of that.

Towerhobbies.com has the pede kit in stock last I checked for anyone who would be interested in getting one.

*Timmy* - I have done a very little bit of crawling with my pede. I locked the diff a few weeks ago and set up some stuff in my basement, with posi in the rear it does quite well. Be warned this would be VERY hard on the gears and drive line if you are doing lots of pavement driving. I have the Steel output yolks and havent had a problem with it so far.

I have a second pede coming that I am going to use for parts. Thinking of trying a 4x4 conversion possibly. Also Dual suspension on each wheel is a possiblity, working out some details on that right now.

Anyone here use both Masher 2000's and Imex Pullers? Any Thoughts on which are better? Anyone have some pics of them side by side?

Well I think I'm done rambling for now. If anyone wants to chat or has any questions post here or ICQ me @ 30629259 or AIM - thewebgod12345.

I also got the truck in "kit" form. Everything does need assembled, and it came with the slipper clutch. Its one of the cheapest kits out there, ($74.99 at ultimatehobbies.com) and in my opinion, one of the best. I strongly recommend anyone looking to buy the truck to buy the kit, its very easy to assemble, and it comes with a clear body instead of one of those ugly prepainted traxxas ones.

Also. I cant see the point of having dual shocks for each wheel on the pede, the truck is very light for a monster truck, and even tho it would look cool, I cant see it doing anything but adding wieght. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

-Vince

Mr. Pede
04-02-2002, 08:49 PM
Hey,

The dual suspension was just an idea i had. I already have the shocks to do it. If I did a 4x4 conversion that would increase the weight of the truck quite a bit so dual shocks would help out.

Im getting another rolling chasis pede in a week or so then I might start a 4x4 conversion. Havent really decided yet.

Well anybody else here do some custom stuff for their pede?

-Matt

V-Mac
04-02-2002, 11:34 PM
Mr. Pede, if you decide to do the 4x4 conversion, let us know how it turns out. I do think dual shocks would be a good idea on a 4x4 pede.

-Vince

Mr. Pede
04-03-2002, 12:54 AM
Im seriously considiering it as All I will really have to buy is the HPI Steering parts for the frontend, a few pieces of aluminum.

Also either a SuperRooster ESC or another LRP ESC and Y the one I have and the new one together. I already have dual 17x1 and Dual Stinkers and I have a rolling chasis pede on the way.

Anyone here convert to 4x4? I have seen a couple ways to do it but I am always open to new ideas. 'IF' I decide to do the conversion after I get it done then I might try and mount dual shocks.

Anyway I will know more when my rolling chasis arrives, probably next week sometime. I will keep you guys posted.

Dudes! I had the worst crash ive had in my my 8 year rc experence tonite! I have a jump in my driveway I made three days ago, its an 4x8 sheet of plywood setting on two powerwheels "Barbie jeeps" (my duaghters, lol). Anyway, its about 4ft. high and when i jump it I at least get 10ft. of air and fly about 25ft. then land in the grass. Well, I pushed it a little tonight and took the curve around my driveway a little too fast and I hit the side of the jump and flipped my truck at least 30 times before it slammed into the garage! When it hit the garage, I seen the battery fly out, (held in by velcro) and I thought "SH*T, its totaled"!

I do admit I bought this truck to bash with, but damn! I thought id at least break an A-Arm or shock tower or something! But the ole pede held up! I cant say much for the stock body though, cracked in several places (but would'nt any body be?). Other than the body, I bent both of the rear optional traxxas steel turnbuckles (maybe I should go back to the stock plastic ones!) This is now my favorite rc car/truck ive ever owned, I really, really wish I would have got this one on camera.

hey rcbum thats pretty funny (im not laughin though) and horrifying its happened to me but luckily it wasn't my car, I was driving my friends B3 and I accidentally drove it under a school bus doing about 30-35 it ran parralell to the tires and for a few moments actually pulled a few feet in front of the bus (complements to his 9*2 W/8 cells (WHOA!!!) yea i know! but then it hit a rock flipped over and you can figure out the rest, one word to describe it :CRUNCH!!!! it sucked but he didn't care. We salvaged: 2 of 8 cells, motor, servo, 3 wheels and tires. it just plain sucked that was about 1 n a half years agocheck out this! (http://WWW.ultimatetraxxas.com)

Estampede, the place to go to find out the info is Maxxtraxx, in the ModelTech support forum and electric powerplant forum. Maxxtraxx (http://www.maxxtraxx.com)

The ModelTech (http://www.modeltech.co.uk) site is the only place you can buy the motors and controllers. However people have used others, namely Schultze controllers and Hacker motors, which are quite similar and available at some US hobby stores. Myself, I would go ModelTech, they are proven and run superbly. I will never return to brushed (except when racing.... damn rules). I run the B8XR motor and Pro-Race forwards/brake controller on 6 RC2400 cells. I get the best part of 20mins out of this, mixed crawling, jumping and fast running. And it will outrun ANY brushed motor truck.

Hey guys! You have a new member to your clan! I have just ordered a Traxxas Epede from tower. I was doing a price check, and it turned out the kit is actually cheaper than the rtr! I got a nice Futaba 75mhz radio with two servos and free decals:D for 43 dollars, and the kit for 75. That's about 110 to 120, with all I need. I got a Futaba MC330 that I'm planing to put in, going to keep the stock motor until I kill it (shouldn't take to long;) ) and next year hopefully replace it with a sapphire single. TORQUE!!:D This brings me to another question. I hear so many people having problems with their gears stripping and saying traxxas epedes have the worst trannys, well tower hobbies says it comes with a Slipper Clutch, and Ball Bearing Transmission. Should I be fine? What should I look out for while assembling the kit. I read this whole post and it looks like I shouldn't fill the shocks all the way with oil because in a hard landing they can burst? What about bodies, I love JEEPS!:D especially the Wrangler
Will this body work? Click Here (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXBNC8&P=7)

What should I look out for?
Building the kit?
Body work?

The tranny does suck. I would reccomend switching the idler gear (middle) to metal and the top gear to plastic. This combo works much better. With the stock motor it will not be as much of a problem but with a 16 turn you will find yourself stripping them quite often. The slipper clutch will prevent this but then your not going to be able to wheelie and stuff. The plastic outdrives are kinda crappy too. I would reccomend the metal ones and then get the rpm hub carrirers that accept the bigger ball bearings. The stock size ones will break. That should get you going pretty good, i would reccomend the big bores in the near future also.

Roadrage, the Pro Line Maxx bodies will not fit, including the jeep. They are too wide and long. You need something narrower, like on a stadium truck. I think the HPI MT bodies are cool, I will post a pic of my VW beetle soon hopefully.

When I think about it, the Jeep MAY fit, but it would look more realistic and less of a monster, if you see what I mean. Could look quite cool with a bit of work maybe - the Jeep looks a bit shorter than most of the other maxx shells from the pics I have seen.

Hey longrat thats pretty sweet looking. I need to get a new body too my stock one broke yesterday along with a bent shock shaft. I had a little incident with a tree after going of a large jump! I hit the tree about 6 feet off the ground head on and bent the shock shaft and then it landed on its lid and shattered the holes where the rear body posts go. I am quite proud of bending a shock shaft though! The stampede takes a lot of abuse.

Ive had my pede for about a month now and ive had no problems with the tranny. I do have the alu. idler and the nylon top gear, but the tranny also ran fine stock, just set the slipper until it barely slips and it'll still do wheelies. BTW, has anyone else had trouble getting the bearings into the alu. idler gear? Man, it was a b**ch! I had to use pliers with a rag wrapped around them so it wouldnt hurt the gear. I know thier gonna be an even bigger b**** to remove and clean. Anyone else have this problem? If so, any suggestions on the best way to remove them? Well, time to find something else to PEDE on.

Hey, I'm planning to order a Pede kit and have a couple questions as I've only bought RTR's in the past.

Which radio should i buy, a 75mhz or 27 mhz ? and if i plan to use the MSC that comes in the kit, I need to get a radio that has 2 servos correct?

Thanks guys!

jdm3849
04-26-2002, 05:32 PM
yes you need 2 servos when you use the msc,75mhz is fm which is more expensive,27mhz is am which is less expensive and good for bashing

Thanks JDM,

So have you gotten a Pede? I recongnize ya form the Evader forum. If you've got one, what do you think?

And what's anyones opinion on the stinger motor that comes with the kit?

i have gotten it, i love it, i drive it 4 times a day and have had it for 3 weeks and nothings broke! thats what i call fun.
the stinger motor is good for bashing because of the long run times,it has plenty torque too

the pede jumps great,my only complaint is the motor mount, motor comes loose too easily causing stripped gears

Are the stock plastic outdrives on the e. stampede ok? Will they pop off if you jump alot? Cause on my n. sport they always came off, so i got the steel ones. If i had like a 17t motor would i need the steel outdrives.

Also is the stampede a good jumper? How easily does it break?

i have a 17 turn sapphire in it right now and they have held up without any problems, wait till they break to replace them,it jumps soo good its hard to explain, the thing is very strong,i have had it for 4 weeks and the only thing that has happened is stripping my servo, the servo saver is too soft though

Go with the outdrives when you bust the plastics. They will eventually fall off or get stripped or something. I am running a 16 turn right now and I have the metal onmes. They are the only way to go.

Airtronic CX2P Fm radio
hitec 5625mg throttle servo
Novak Duster ESC
Factory Team RC10GT shocks (f/r)
Panasonic 7-Cell 3000maH pack. Some mod to fit.
Duratrax Ball Bearings
Pro-Line Silverado body.
custom ESC mount

Okay, now I need some help. I just ordered a Trinity Monster Maxx Pro E-Maxx motor. I found the dimensions and the motor will fit in the motor pod, but I don't know about mount screws. I know that the motor is a 550 size can, but I just thought that it was longer. Will it fit the mount w/o new holes?

Also, I'm looking into some new driveline parts. I'm pretty sure on the MIP CVDs for it, but are they better axles for it? Also the RPM rear hub carriers I plan on picking up.

Also will the stock gears hold up with that beast? An older RCCA mag, they modded a ruslter and they had metal gears for it. But I can't find that company newhere. So will the stockers work or are there new aftermarket ones out there?

Any help or postive comments would be appreciated greatly.

Shawn_S, what are the benefits of running a 550 size motor at 8.4 Volts when the nominal voltages for a RS-550PC and RS-550VC are 12 and 14.4 Volts respectively? You could run with two 6-cell packs, but then the added weight would cut into your run time and place a greater load on the transmission.

The Stampede's transmission already has difficulty with low wind modified motors, I doubt it will fare any better with something that puts out nearly twice as much torque; even with metal gears. I had actually considered doing the same thing with two 6-cell packs instead of a single 7-cell, but I eventually settled for a 7-cell and a 14-turn double wind which produced excellent results.

Just asking out of curiosity...

BTW, you can fit a hump-back stype 7-cell battery into the chassis without any modification. I'm not sure if you were referring to the battery or the chassis when you mentioned making the mod.

Shawn_S
05-07-2002, 07:23 AM
aphex, the mod I was talking about for the battery was that i had remove the msc wall and mounts. The 7-cell isn't a hump. The 7th cell is attached to the end thus the pack is very long. Then I added some graphite to stiffen up the chassis.

The benefit to using a 550 motor with that much torque is you can run tall gears.

aphex4000
05-07-2002, 09:56 AM
Shawn_S, tall gears make sense. If you can find all metal gears then the end result should be very similar to replacing a 2-stroke engine with a low rev/high torque 4-stroke. I still think you would be better off modifying the battery pack(or replacing it) because the single cell on top does little to raise the center of gravity and you would not have to cut the chassis so close to the transmission. Good luck with your project! I'm pretty eager to hear how it turns out! :)

Shawn_S,
I put a Reedy BaddMaxx motor (15D) in my Stampede without any problems. The Gears help up fine (although I admit I used 32 pitch for jumping). The axles held up fine also. Watch out for wheelies:D
If you have a bit of extra money to spend, I suggest purchasing GPM aluminum bearing carriers. I have some and they're indestructable.
The mounting holes do line up the same as with 540's.

to lower the body I cut the front body posts off the support, trimmed about an inch off them and then stuck and screwed them back on. Be careful when you make the first cut - try to keep the support intact.

For the rear I simply dropped the whole supoort down to be flush with the top of the main plastic rear chassis mount. Then I made some new holes and fixed it on.

It's the idle gear. I can replace it for 2.89, but an aluminium one costs 10.99. I can get 4 plastic ones for that price. Won't aluminum strip too? If it were steel than no, but aluminium? They also say not to use it if I have a metal top gear, and I do. Why?

Unless you really like taking that dumb gear case all apart I would put an aluminum on in there. They say metal on metal can cause radio interference so change the top gear. this combo does not break (for me at least) and I would reccomend that.

with the 2k's - Do you put foam in them or can they support themselves? I was surprised that the stock pede tyres were insertless! The stock tyres are also difficult to true - you get some real wheel shudder if you're not careful - hence my pursuit for some new bitchin' boots.

The 2k's hold up good with no inserts, especaily if there are no air holes in you rims. I love the traxxas "dish" wheels witch I drill a few holes in the back of the rims for air and I do use stadium truck inserts. This setup has worked great for me and they dont seem to "wobble" as much as the stock tires do.
