I've got a Wild Willy 2. It was the first R\C I ever built. I installed sealed bearings in the gears and wheels and replaced the stock shocks with oil filled ones. I used a rubber "Grant Hill" head on the driver body, painted the body suit camouflage, put a GI Joe 60mm machine gun and ammo in the back of the jeep. I tricked it out in others areas as well. Wild Willy 2 is a lot of fun. It all started when a senior citizen friend of mine, got me hooked on his original "Wild Willy".

what hop-ups do you have?
and is there really a point in hopping it up? since it'll always handle like **** and always pop wheelies???

ok.. iev been asking around for while now about how to go about painting a hard. Ive hard testors model paint, acrylic, tmaiya spray paint and brush on. Will someone who has painted one already tell me what brand and type of paint you used. Also did you leave the body in the green color it comes in or did you paint over it. thanks

I've owned several Tamiya kits with the hard bodies.(does this make me a senior citizen, since my first r/c was a Blackfoot then a Grasshopper?) Anyway, you can use any paint that is safe on plastic.I've always used "model" paint. I've found it's best to prime it first. If you are going to be using it offroad, I've found that laquer (3 or 4 coats) gives it some extra proteciion from scratches. You can find it in different types of gloss from med. to high. If you don't airbrush use a can, warm it up in warm water first. If you use a paint brush you have a better chance of showing all of the brush marks. My $.02 anyway, GoodLuck.

Well, it's about time someone started a thread dedecated to Tamiya on here. I don't have a Willy, but I will sooner or later. I have always wanted one since I sold my original over a decade ago. Oh yeah, and don't go talkin about bein' old 'cause you had a Grasshopper, I started out with a Frog!!! Right now I am getting my Pajero XB set up properly (owned the original of that too.....sigh).

Yeah Tadium, I would like to see some pics too. That was the one thing that made me wonder about the Willy - that there isn't much to do to it aftermarket-wise. Has anyone figured out a way to put the new Pro-line Mashers on it? That would be sweet.

Hay tandium I have onestally never seen or heard of a willie with that many hop ups post some pics and ill give ya a dollor! As some of you know iv'e been working on a 4x4 4 link conversion for a while nowand trust me it's not really that hard to convert the willie to 4 weel drive and yes you could easaly put the mashers on there if you wanted to but now i have decided to stick with the four wheel drive alone instead of the 4 link and 4 wheel drive because 1the extended chassie a makes high center of gravity inposable to escape and 2 the 4 link doesnt offer any real suspinsion advantage in rock crawling.
Whoch
Go ahead and ask any critising questions

ok, wyochi, i have to comment.. how is a longer wheelbase bad for the cg, and how is a 4 link bad for rock crawling? the logic i employ contradicts you completely here.

THinking about a Willy for my 5 year old's first intro to RC. Looks to me like the wheelie bar could be mounted upside down to keep the wheelies to a minimum. Anyone tried that? Also, how is the handling, I expect a little top-heaviness but does it really spend more time on the lid than the wheels? If I dial down the steering EPA, would that help? Or should I forget about the Willy for him, just get one for myself and get him the blackfoot extreme/ Midnight pumpkin/ Lunchbox that I was thinking of alternatively....LMK what you all think...

The wild willy never fails to grab attention wherever it goes. and it's one heck of a tough car. the handling is nowhere near tourings or 4wd off roads, but that what makes it special and fun. if you expect maximum trashing from your kid, i suggest the lunchbox as it comes with lexan bodyshell that's cheaper to replace. the ww's bodyshell is hard plastic for realism - so, i'm recommending ww to you instead :-)

Thanks for the reply nokia, do you know if the wheelie bar can be installed upside down to keep wheelies to a minimum? The way that it mounts looks similar to my M03 front and rear bumper, and they are interchangeable (upside down and vice versa).

yes they can. if you get oil shocks, it helps out for sure. limiting the power can help for sure. when i had one it spent a decent amount of time on its roof but its a strong little thing

yea, you can turn the wheelie bar upside down, but seriously, i think trying to limit the wheelie will be a hard thing to do - given the power of stock motor, the car will still wheelie and it'll go past the wheelie bar and it'll definitely make a stuttering jump! which is fun nonetheless! :D

Anyone know of good replacement bodies for WW2 that don't look totally rediculous? I want a lexan truck body for bashing around so I don't ruin the jeep body. Any suggestions?
Also does anyone make an aftermarket wheelie bar for it?
Thanks

problem with replacing the body is its extremely short wheelbase.
have to do a little trimmming to flip wheelie bar. no big deal though.
the wide willy mod, lowering it, and putting on some street treads like proline speed dawgs will make it nearly drivable onroad. but i put a pretty hot motor in mine, making the handling challenging, but surprisingly fast.
to me, a great beginner ride is the rc 18t. long run time, superior handling, cheap, needs almost nothing.

Use a 1/18 body. :) much lower weight brings down the COG and makes for a real fun ride. This one has a 17t motor and is a total blast.
