Hello!
Have any you heard anything about how much power the 2,5 engine in the new Maxx delivers?
I can't get mine to do wheelies, but i have only been driving it on snow and dusty concrete floor so far. Not sure if it finds enough traction...

I just purchased my T-Maxx and it will be here Monday. I got a great deal at www.stormerhobbies.com out the door for under $400.00 very cool company as well. What do you suggest in regards to batteries, chargers, and other accessories that I will need to get started.
Well, if you can, wait for the pullstart version to come out. Or, just buy a battery (6 cell) and a charger (15 minute) and 12 AA batts. That should get you started.
As for wheelies - is it tuned correctly? Those surfaces don't get much traction either....

hi, i need a little help with the brakes. i have the stock disc, but it dosn't stop like it use to. i have tried cleaning it with scotch bright but it didnt help. maybe the linkage is not right.or the brake set pin screws that hold the plate are out of adjustment. it seems to me that a stronger servo is needed, but it use to work great with that one, (and my batteries are charged up)any ideas?.
How long have you had your current setup? Is the servo still swinging the full rotation? Any throttle response problems?
It may just be that you have a worn disc. That's all. Heh....
The RRP discs are nice because they just need new pads that are around $3 or so when you wear the old ones out.

Does anyone have any home video shots of your T-maxx's? If so post the URL here. Thanks!
For some Kewel electric video's I suggest http://www.swami-rc.com/
Swami has some awesome videos.

i know better than posting in the wrong forum , but , who better than you guys to ask for something:
does any one have a set of stock tmaxx shocks with springs for sale or trade, i am looking for really cheap ,,
i haev my first maxx coming in a trade and it doesnt have shocks,, also
will my nova ct-12 pullstart engine fit in it ,, it is the standard threaded shaft
if so are there any parts i will need to make it work ,, i really cant afford to change the shaft right now,
thanks
frank13
you can also im me at fcsntjg77
I have some stock shocks laying around. Shoot me an email, ss4trunks@satx.rr.com.
As for the engine, you will have to cut the shaft if you want to use it. The T-Maxx clutch requires a short shaft, like the AE vehicles do.

If you have the money then it's well worth gearing down to an 18 tooth clutch bell. It made a big difference with my RB C12:)

First off, is the engine tuned for optimal performance? Second, are the tires glued? Third, is the slipper slipping when you hit the gas? Also, those surfaces won't give you much traction, so you may not see wheelies until springtime.
SpeedyDave- Thanks for the tips :) I checked my slipper clutch the other day, and it is very tight.. No slip there. I am also pretty sure that i've tuned it ok.. I find the 2,5 engine in my Maxx much easier to tune than the stock .21GS-r engine in my LM2. And the tires are glued to the rims, so i'm pretty sure it's the lack of traction that keeps my maxx from going up on two.. I'm looking forward to hot asphalt and dirt in the spring :D

Also, how much fuel have you run through it? I dont remember if you said that already. My 2.5 seems to be making more power the more fuel I put through it, and someone here who has 4 gallons through his cant keep the front end down, and his rx pack is zip tied to the front shock tower, too. :D

aaaaaargh!!!!! im wanting to lose the EZ start, but does anybody know where i can get the pullstart for the 2.5??? Tower claims late Jan, but hmmm..... we will see??
Well, I am out of the Maxx scene again! JEEZE!!!
My piston cracked in my 2.5, so I said "get that thing outta here!!!" I am parting it out now, so if you want any of the parts, let me know.
As for the pullstarter conversion: I can sell you my WHOLE TRX 2.5 engine for $100!!! It just needs a piston and sleeve, and it has the pullstart conversion on and works GREAT!!! Just let me know, thanks.

Got a question:
Do any of you guys have the XTM .21 conversion? I am in the process of installing it on my "Old" Tmaxx and I found that the brake hex thingy doesn't fit properly around the new center drive shafts. I was thinking maybe I might try getting the Robinson racing disk brake, but then at Tower, there is a little disclaimer that says you need a different disk brake for the new Tmaxx 2.5 as well as any "Old" maxxes made after march 2002. I bought my truck in July of 2002, is it possible that they changed the diameter of the center shafts? If so then I guess I would get the original brake set, so as to fit it around XTM's shafts that are possibly meant for Tmaxx's built before March 2002? If it isn't too much hassle, could someone with a pre-March 2002 truck tell me what the diameter of the brake hex is and also someone with the new 2.5. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-fry
It just doesn't fit into the brake hex? That's odd. How much doesn't fit in?
french-fry
01-18-2003, 01:34 AM
No, its the other way around. The brake hex is too big for the new shaft by about 1 or 2 milimeters: so if I were to run it with the brake on, it would cause big problems. I.E. the brake wouldn't be centered on the shaft and all that wobbling would cause something to break. Its so weird. If worse comes to worse, I'll try wrapping the shaft with electrical tape or something...
-fry
Wow, never heard of this before! Did you get your Maxx used? Check to see if the RRP disc is any different over at the maxxtraxx.com boards...

01-18-2003, 02:15 PM
Well, yep, the MaxxTraxx boards had the answer. Evidently the new 2.5 as well as old maxx's made after march 2002 have slightly larger diameter center shaft yokes. So, to fix my problem I'm gonna order the old-style RRP brake. Yeah, problem solved. Thanks for the help GTX.

Ok! I've finally gave in a decided to get a T-Maxx. Heres a list of things I think would need to race the truck and not worry too much about breaking, what do you think? Need anything else?
-Servo-air358 (Have) Move the stock steering to throtle
-Servo protecter (Have)
-Oneway(fwd only gear in tranny) (Have)
-steel spur gear (Have)
-Front ti skid plate (Have)
-5 cell receiver pack (Have)
-tires??? which ones
What about a rear skid plate and the center plates are they really needed? I think lighter is better! I don't want to race a tank. Are the stock shocks up to the punishment of racing? What type should I get when the need arises? Traxas big bores or some other type?

Sorry couldnt post the pics my computer is goin really slow so just copy and past the website.
No, those are crappy pipes. If you want a dual or quad exhuast, just split it yourself using an MIP stinger kit and some exhuast tubing deflectors and get real creative, or, just use the Stinger kit. Don't buy those kits, they aren't good for performance!

What engine would you go for the .18 hot bodies or a .16 megatech? My old .15 trx is getting week and I am tired of rebuilding it. And I want to pop the front end of the ground with so power and please do not suggest a .21 conv. I want to drop a engine in and go.

I would go with the new Traxxas 2.5 and easystart. That is if I knew the part number.

I used the Hobbico CS71MG which is the same for 1.5 years in my T-Maxx without a servo saver. It was great!
The gears held up fine without a servo saver. When it did fail it was the positioning pot. The servo did not know which way it was pointing. It went all the way around and took out the whole inside of the servo with its 132 Oz/inch of torque. :D

01-26-2003, 04:55 AM
Yah, i have the XTM conversion and everything seems quite well done, but be careful, if you bought your MAXX after March of 2002, you'll have to do a bit of moding on the center drive shafts. Specifically, the center drive shafts are a hair too long, and you'll need to buy a replacement brake disk for a Maxx built before March '02 so it fits properly around the shaft(see post a few pages ago). But its really not that big a deal.

Even more so: the 2.5 has the wider suspension and the XTM cvd's only fit Maxx's with the old (narrower) suspension arms.

hi guys,
i just got mine after a week of debated on which truck to get, either savage or t-maxx. we ran 2 tanks through it for break-in and it started raining, damn it gotta wait til tommorow to finish. so far i think its bad a$$,and i only was at 1/4 throttle. i can tell i am in for hours of fun. cool truck. my question is what is usually the first thing to go wrong, i want to prepare? is there any suggestions on my first upgrade? i already plan on getting a rechargeable battery for receiver, they told me they only last 45 minutes is that true? well i am glad this forum is here, you guys out there are great, very helpful , THANKS BOB

Hey!
I was out thrashing my Maxx2,5 in the cold, and one of my half shafts snapped
Is it possible to get stronger half shafts for the 2,5? If so who makes these??
Tower are out of stock, and i doubt if my LHS has them...
Thanks!!

Wauu!!
Sure is one silent group of people out there!
Has any of you heard of when Traxxas will be able to supply us with half shafts for the 2,5 T-maxx? Tower are out of stock and my LHS didn't bother to order them because of the "X" in the parts number... They thought it was an optional part
No half shafts in Norway this month, and running two wheel drive just doesn't do it when there is lots of snow and ice outside..
Happy weekend!!

I just got a t-maxx off of a trade for a txt-1. its the older style maxx, but it has the pl suspension kit with cvds brand new, racers edge blue aluminum chassis, paris racing pipe, imex j-hawg tires brand new, it has a hitec 645mg servo for the steering with kimbrough servo saver, sock shocks, dynamite aluminum f/r/c skid plates red, dynamite f/r body posts aluminum red, and a forward only racing tranny. I have a question on the forward only tranny, it doesnt have a 2-speed on it is that right? Or does it and if so does it shift automatically? im not to famillar with the t-maxx although i have a e-maxx. thanks for the help.
R/Cbum4life
02-05-2003, 04:31 PM
I dont know about the two speed but you should be able to hear it. Take it out and fire it up when its moving you should hear it shift.
LouisB
02-08-2003, 07:50 AM
It should have a 2 speed, look in the manual to see how to adjust it because it could be engaging too early or too late. Only change the settings by 1/16th of a turn at a time. If the acceleration is sluggish but it gets up to a high top speed then it is engaging too early (possibly constantly in 2nd grear) and the shift point should be raised.
civicds
02-08-2003, 12:48 PM
thanks guys but i found the solution. for one it does have the 2-speed i dont know why i thought it didnt. anyways i adjusted the high speed needle valve and bam i got instant acceleration and got the 2-speed to shift exactly when i wanted it to. i adjusted it 1/16th of a turn untill i got no more performance out of it. so my engine is all adjusted, and its not runnijng too hot so im happy now. by the way just for some people that think that the pro .15 cant get up to 40 or 45mph well mine did. my engine is ported, has a rrp blue light weight flywheel, new performance head, paris racing tuned pipe and a forward only racing tranny.

I need some opinions... I want the new 2.5 so bad. I am looking at the upgrade kit from traxxas for around $190 or so($110 to trade in my old .15, $50 for an upgrade kit, and another $30 or so at least for an electric start, not that I really need it but its and added bonus). A new maxx is only $379. If I could sell my old maxx for $190 or so Im like 180 from a new truck which is less than it would cost to upgrade. The problem is what is my old maxx worth??? I don't want to sell any of my upgrades so it would be an all stock truck with about 3 and 1/2 gallons of fuel through it. So it is getting close to needing a rebuild. What do you guys reccomend I do?? Sell it and buy something new or used with a 2.5 or dump the money into my existing one?? Please help!

I wouldn't get a cirrus servo. They turn the wheels but so very slowly! I had one a while back but then sold it and got a 645MG. They are about $10 or so more but are nearly twice as fast with the same amount of torque.
Anyway, I am going to be getting a maxx again. LOL Ive started missing my maxx. I am selling the 1/8 buggy I bought after selling my T-Maxx, lol. If anyone is intrested in a GS Storm with engine and a few upgrades LMK, my email is falcon247@Juno.com
Is there anything I should know about the new maxx that wasn't a problem with the old maxx? Do the suspension arms tend to break more now that they are longer? And, one more thing, does the engine wear pretty quickly or about the same as other engines?

Oh, and one more thing, lol. Where is the cheapest place to buy a Maxx?[quote]

I am looking to trade my new savage for a tmaxx, I just bought the savage last saturday to be exact. I broke it in proper and had about 5 tanks of gas through it total.
I like teh truck and it runs as I expected but its not tmaxx close and real close but I hate the pull start
It is adult owned, I am 23 and I did not beat it. I rolled it over 2 times and the body has some scratches but no cracks and everything is in tact no problems runs great I just like the Tmaxx better so if any of you guys know anybody let me know.

I have always jsut ran stock tires for off road. In snow conditions I just turn them around for a paddle type tire. I only have stock and slicks. Slicks are great if you have some good pavement! From knowledge I hear the bowties and mulchers are also good for offroad. i would like the try the mulchers. They look good for off road. Let me know what you choose.
Maximum. Looks like an awesome truck! I have a quite hopped up t-maxx myself. I just added the xtm .21 conversion with an onfa hyper 8-port engine. Haven't gotten to drive it yet. Im scroungin for some bearings, I only have 3 left all around my axles!:( I cant wait though. About how fast does than 24/7 go? Looks like you got some massive air. I know that that engine has tons of torque and will pull wheelies like nothing but whats the top end speed like. My new engine, the 8-port, has 38,000 RPMs and 2.5 HP so i expect it to perform quite well althoguh ive heard it is hard to tune. Im only 13 just turned 14 and i already have about 2 1/2 grand in my maxx :p . Its practically all aluminum with exceptions of diff cases, bumper and body mounts, tranny case, battery and reciever boxes. I love it. Used to have the Megatech M16 in it be4 conversion and that is a nice motor. Only $100 and i beat a new 2.5 maxx. It was cut tho. But I would reccomend it to some trx .15 blower uppers. its great for the price! The new 2.5 pulls wheelies tho. Mine didnt have the torque but i bet this 8-port will!:D Once i get my maxx all put back together i will pop on my new el camino body and takes some pics to post on here.

All of the .21 conversions i have seen come with an extended rear skidplate which I don't want, except for the xtm kit. I've heard it has been discontinued and was wondering if this is true. I have had my maxx since jan. I have about a gallon run though it so far. I have a few questions though. I noticed lately that it doesn't sound like it is hitting second gear at all. Also I got it to wheelie once. Now I noticed a bunch of fluid under the gas tank on the chassis and all over the underside of the chassis. I am wondering if my tank has a leak in it and is spewing gas all over. Also I think some of the fuel may have worked its way into the clutch cause it sits and revs but barely moves. I have tightened up the spur gear nut. Also when I hit the breaks it will stall! I have treid alot of different needle setting but am getting nowhere. What should I do??

I'd go with the savage because it's more durable and more stable than the maxx on the track. The motor can easly be upgrade to blow off a .15 motor. I have both and like them but the savage is one I like more. Oh yeah, do you need that black ring on the top of your 2.5 engine for anything other than the glow plug wire? Mine came off?:)

I found front and rear swaybars, these things are great not only can I make the turns at high speeds now but they look great also. They seem to save my bulkheads and arms from breaking so much also. I found them here www.superiorhd.com

R/Cbum4life
05-13-2003, 10:37 PM
My carb was binding too, your not alone. I found that it was made wrong, the groove where the low speed needle slides was cut with a dull machine of sort because there was a large lump in it where it got too hot. So the screw would hang up on this. I turned my whole engine in for a warranty replacement (another long long story) though so hopefully the next carb will be better.

05-13-2003, 11:36 PM
R/Cbum4life- Oh ok. Good it isn't just me. :p It shouldn't be a problem with turning the carb since I found it can't turn either way more than an 1/8th inch. Anyway I had some serious tuning problems which I finally got worked out. This thing tunes alot different than most others Ive tuned. One problem though still I was running 240 till about the last minute of the tank and it started raising higher and higher untill it shut off. I checked it then and it was 290! Is there anyway to avoid this other than letting it run dry. I don't have a problem with running tanks in my other vehicles dry. One more thing. Are there any decent fuel bottles out there? Ive gone through 3 different ones now. They all seem to get a crack in them somewhere. I'm thinking about getting a fuel gun if they are any better. What all do you do with your t-maxxs? Lets see some pics.

I've got the same problem, overheating is the worst thing that can happen when you know you're doing everything the manual says you should be doing. I'm just about ready to get rid of this engine and put in a Sirio. Hopefully it wont give me the same problems. the best fuel bottle I ever had was the Ofna one. It had an aluminum feed tube and an O-ring around the base. Unfortunately, I lost it, and I still have yet to get one.:( Fuel guns are $$$$$$$$$$$.
Got Speed
05-14-2003, 11:50 AM
AKIRA 139- Yea. I really hate that. Ive got it right where I want it now while it is full on fuel but that last minute of running just kicks that thing to 290. The settings were way off to start with too. My first break in tank went to 275!. I have never had an engine so hot on me before, especially during break-in. That EZ start sure does suck down the batterys! I have an ofna bottle with the orange plastic spout that cracked where the spout goes in. My last one was an ofna one with a blue aluminum spout it cracked right in the side. :( Id probably get a fuel gun if I knew they wouldn't break since you can get them pretty cheap on ebay.

After putting on some CVDs I went out to make sure it would run fine for when I race saturday. I started it up and it was way out of tune again. After 4 tanks of fuel I gave up. I think I was getting close again but it's a waste of time and money bothering to tune the thing when it gets way out of tune like that and is just about imposible to tune. I think it may be something wrong with the carb because I have tuned other engines without problems and this thing is impossible.

tjbell88- www.integy.com has some fairly inexpensive parts. Ebay has alot of good deals.
rustlerman81- Neither is really better. Do you want a stadium truck or a monster truck. The rustler is faster and lighter so it can jump higher and farther. However the T-Maxx can land a jump better. They are about the same in durability. If you want to more aggressive offroad stuff you will definatly want the maxx(mud bogging, rock and hill climbing, and just to go through and over anything)

mj_bandit- Just to let you know a 2.5 is a .15 just in metric. I know what you mean though. Does the engine look like the one in this picture? Do you have a picture of the truck. If it is RTR $180 sounds like a good deal. A new plastic spur gear is only about $3. A kimbourgh plasic spur(much better than the stock one) is only about $5. You can get a steel one for $30 but they arn't needed and are really heavy. I suggest the kimbourgh. If it has the radio gear, engine, and all of the truck is there except the spur gear then you will need: spur gear, fuel, fuel bottle, 12AAs or a NiCd/NiMh Transmitter and reciever pack,(You can get a nice NiMh 5 cell reciever pack on ebay for $12) and if it has an EZ start(electric start) you will need a 7.2V battery pack for it.

Stock the T-Maxx is pretty fast. You can gear up somr(not suggested for every day bashing). Or you can get a faster engine.(the only faster one that dosn't require a .21 conversion is the sirio which isn't $200 faster IMO). There are lots of different pipes. They are like the muffler on a car. The purpose is to muffle the sound and to provide back pressure. They have different colors, styles, etc. Some give better power while some give more top end speed. A good aftermarket pipe will provide slightly more overall performance over the stock pipe. If you are new and not racing a pipe is not really that important. As for hop ups I would just upgrade as you go and as your wallet will allow. Most common things to break: Bulkheads, shock tower, body mounts, suspension arms, bumper mounts, and skidplates. There are several options. Aluminum, titanium, nylon, plastic, and sometimes graphite/carbon fiber. Titanium is the most expensive, strongest, and not all parts are made out of it. Aluminum is somewhat expensive, strong but not nearly as much as titanium, can bend though instead of breaking(might not be a good choice for skid plates or suspension arms unless very high qualitity aluminum, nylon is flexible so it just flexs instead of breaking or bending, after time it can warp but unless you are racing it really dosn't matter, it is only slightly more than stock plastic too, then there is the stock plastic replacements, they are the weakest and cheapest but don't need replaced uneless you break them.

Right now I hate mine. It is being a pain. I sent it in to traxxas. I did notice in the crankcase a big gouge. Now how could that be there except a manufacturing error. I think there is an air leak but if I take apart the engine it voids the warranty! Sounds like a loose-loose situation for me and a win-win for them.

RCFAN- It was actually craked!? They replaced it even though you opened the engine? hmm it said that taking apart the engine would void the warranty. Maybe it is just to cover them self in case they get an engine that has screwdriver marks all over the inside of the sleeve or something. Well I sent it in to them the day before yesterday so hopefully I should hear something from them soon or get a new engine back.

Maxxxxst-
1- Great
2- Well. Since you have good traction in the grass it will take off pretty well but you won't go as fast in thick grass. Normal grass is not a problem at all. Thick tall grass slows you down but it can still go through as with all trucks.
3- I thought I would want alum. bulks right away from my experience with my previous first gen. maxx but the new maxx seems much sturdier. I would say to upgrade when you break it if you can afford it and if it seems like something that is likely to break again.

Skribble- If all that is on it is aluminum arms it will cause the next thing in line to break instead. Something is going to give in a hard enough crash instead of the arms it will something else. Like a knuckle, bulkhead, pivot ball, or something like that.

Knuckles & Shocktowers are included .. I'm guessing the bulkheads or Pivotballs would start breaking first. Once the pivotballs start breaking I'd probably upgrade to SM Ti. PBs .. And if I broke the bulkheads a lot, I'd upgrade them to Al .. :o

RCFAN- I just got my engine back 2 days ago. On the paper it said the cause of failure was the piston. I thought that was kind of strange. I don't know if they meant what was wrong was it needed rebuilt or that was what was causing it to act erraticly. They replaced the piston/sleeve and glow plug. Somehow I don't think that is going to cut it but we will have to see. I broke it in again which went smoother than the first break-in. It still runs so hot. It won't provide even satisfactory top end, idle, bottom end, etc running at anything less than 250. It dosn't seem as erratic as before but I know with a proper tune it would put it past 270. It is on average 10% humidity and 115 degrees. My picco turbo 7 port and os .12 CV-R don't give me any heat problems run in the same conditions. It will actually run right now but it gets too hot for me. I'd richen it untill it dropped under 240 even if it cut some performance but under 240 it hardly even runs. I'm trying to get a crazy nut head of off ebay so hopefully I can have it tuned to run well but keep the temps down around 240. If it dosn't work I'll send the engine in to traxxas again and buy a .15 CV-RX or a .21 RG-X(already have a conversion I picked up cheap).
Has anyone run TRC/Trinity tires yet? I was looking at the tread similar to the bowtie(I think it is the magic) to try on my hard packed dry track.

Got Speed- I am having that same problem, I don't have a temp guage but I know for a fact it is running way hot. If I richen it any than it just does not run good. I had to send mine into traxxas because the piston actually broke, the whole skirt on it just shattered and the pin was deystroyed along with the rod. They rebuilt it and it still does not run unless you get it way hot. Whats going on?? The nieghbor has one and his runs great. Im ticked.

R/Cbum4life- I think Traxxas didn't take their time and rushed them out. They had to stop manufacturing parts for a while to put out more 2.5s so I have a feeling that they are sacrificing quality control. It must be an air leak in that carb. I think it is coming from the slide itself. When I sent it in the paper when they returned it said source of failure- piston. I don't know if they meant there was something wrong with the pistong causing everything not work right or if they meant it wasn't working right because the piston/sleeve were worn. I've got an ACM head coming that will hopefully be here tommorow. I just have a feeling that I am not going to be fixing the source of the problem only the heat. At first I thought it might be the weather in my area causing it to run hot. I've seen complete newbies running their's at my track and didn't have a problem. On the other han I've seen experienced people have the same nightmares I've had. You said your neighbor has one that runs fine so it has to be an air leak or something like that. It seems 1 out of 4 engines has a problem. Hopefully this time my engine will work fine. I havn't driven it since break-in waiting for the new head. I hope you get yours running right. I'll let you know how the head works.

OK dudes i would like to no some info on .21 without a pullstart in a t-maxx like the mutant max by hardcore but dont really like the price of the chassis?? are there other alternatives out there for this application??
we plan on racing the truck and i like to run them low but most of the other kits for .21 i dont think you can use the bump box seems they all have a pull start. i already have front suspenion and rear complete (thanks e-bay)front and rear diffs storm center diffs and so one.
what are the pros and cons of the conversion and what to look for?

Hi there
I'm having some problems with the stock differentials of the T-MAXX 2.5.
Could you please help me and tell me what do you use for the differentials,
grease or silicon?. If it is silicon, which viscosity do you recommend me?
Do I have to do any modification in the differentials to use the silicon??
Thanks a lot

Just wondering where everyone runs there shocks at, like in what holes for racing/track setup? I have my fronts all the way in on top, and all the way out on the bottom. I have the rear in the middle at the top and on the 3rd hole from the inside on the bottom. I run 4 trinity's black springs and 4 stock springs this way there are no need for spacers. Just wondering what would be good. What do ya think of this setup? :)

07-23-2003, 01:13 AM
DubDucedDurango- I havn't gotten to work on a race setting yet because of all my engine problems I posted on the last page(that I finally got fixed today). I have used 4 trinity blacks and 4 stocks but I didn't like the fact that you can run the ride height half way down without cutting out supension travel. So I switched back to 8 stock springs because of that and because my track is getting really rutted. I am thinking about putting my shocks as far horizontal as I can and I am also thinking about cutting my black springs so I can use the stiffness but still get a low ride height. Then when I bash I can just put the part I cut off on top of the spring to raise the ride height back up.
I am so happy now about my TRX 2.5. I finally have the thing running right. After getting it back from Traxxas and breaking it in again I ran it for one tank it ran right without tuning problems but still got really hot if I didn't run it way rich. It was running in the 260 area with a good tune. At 260 it didn't have a great idle but it idled pretty well. My only problem was the high heat. So I bought an ACNCM head and now have it running great in the 230ish area. It has the power and top end it should have had all along as well as all the other problems being fixed. It work like it should have to start with now. I is still a little picky with tuning but not too bad. When I got to my track saturday now I have to work on suspension setup. :)

Sounds like you should be set now. Glad you got your maxx running pretty well. I have tryed 4 black and 4 red springs on my E-maxx and it seemed to work pretty well, it could of been a little softer in the rear but I haven't messed around with that yet. If I read correctly the thing you didn't like was that it had a low ride height and did not have good travel? When you go off a jump the suspension extense to the max in the air so when you land it is all pretty much being used. Please explain futher maybe I will change my setup if theres a better way. Thanks:D

DubDucedDurango- Thanks, I've been trying to get it to work for months now. With the black and stock springs it pushs the ride height almost all the way up. That isn't very good for racing so the only way you can drop it without cutting the springs is to use zip ties or travel limiters to keep the ride height down. When you do that though it won't allow the supsension to fully extend in the air because it limits how much down travel the suspension has. With the stock springs it makes it sit lower because they are softer. I am going to try running them like this and running the shocks horizontal so I don't get so much roll. I like to have the most suspension travel but a lowered ride height and not have to worry about a ton of roll in the corners.
M16-A2- You will need a new header. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't work. The sirio .18 works fine in it.

I think I understand what your saying now. I just can't see using the stock mushy springs without spacers, it just is so soft then and doesn't handle as well for me. I think I am going to have to get another 645mg servo for this truck too so I can actually steer the thing! Do you have any pics of your truck that show how low your running it, because with my shocks out as far as possible in the front it rides with the arms pretty straight across with 4 trinty springs. I'm a visual learner!:D :p
Got Speed
07-24-2003, 12:43 AM
Yea, I know I really don't like the softness of all stock springs. I thought of putting them all out like you say you did. But then it with the stiff springs and horizontal shock position it wouldn't handle very well on how my track is right now(really rutted up time to be rebuild). I also thought of cutting a section of the spring off to lower the ride height and then raise it again by adding the portion I cut off. Sorry I can't post any pictures on here because I don't have a way to shrink them but I can email them to you if you give my email. The first think I bought for my truck besides tires and wheels was a 645MG. Dosn't have 200 oz/in torque at .8 or something but it does the job pretty good IMO.
BigBadTahoe
07-24-2003, 11:51 AM
Yeah it is almost a must to get the 645mg but I have already bought like 4 of them which is $200 just on steering servos! I hate to keep buying them because pretty soon they are going to equal the price of a new nitro truck! Ya got to do what ya got to do.:D I haven't tryed my setup yet since it has rained the past 3 days here in OH. Hopefully my track will be dry enough to do test on it tommarrow. I think it should work because I have a calm smooth track that doesn't require a lot of suspension travel. I am trying to get that stance that the maxx's have in the races like the latest Maxx race in RCCA where the driveshafts are all straight across and the trucks have a good CG. You know what I mean.
Got Speed
07-24-2003, 12:30 PM
DubDucedDurango- Why did you have to buy 4 of 645MGs? I know what you mean. The driveshafts level. That is pretty much what I am talking about. That's what most people use for racing it seems. I like it. Not too high and not too low but they still get all the suspension travel they need. I see them with black springs. They must have either shorter versions(which I think trinity makes) or they are cutting their springs because I know they arn't limiting travel. I'm going to the track saturday. I'll tell you how it works. Or what I end up doing.

Ya tell me how things go with that soft suspension of yours because when I had it setup like that on my E-maxx it was way to mushy and it handled really bad. I have a 645 on my E, and I have 2 645 for my TXT-1, and I had a 645 on my rustler. These are good servos though for the price. I was thinking about trying a similar JR mg servo I saw at the lhs but I don't remember it number. Its a little cheaper though.
Got Speed
07-24-2003, 03:44 PM
I'll let you know what I do and how it works. I hate the amount of roll I get with the soft suspension but maybe I can compensate for that by moving my shock horizontal. Maybe just using 4 trinity springs and nothing else would work too. I'll let you know what happens. I thought you were saying you've ruined 645s. lol All the JR servos I've seen didn't have the same torque or speed as the 645 for the price. LMK what you find out. Thanks

I ruined the diff gear in my XXX-nt because the slipper was too tight. I did the same to my old maxx off a jump because I slammed on my brakes when I came down too soon, the tranny gears where all screwed. I was thinking of making all the gears metal so it wouldn't matter but that might slow it down wouldn't it? TK5124 and TK5125 are the two part numbers. The first is the blue springs the second is the black(harder) springs. It says it drops the ride height to driveshafts level on their web site. They are the same price as the normal springs. You can order them off of their own website. Got to: http://www.teamtrinity.com/accessories/tk.asp and click on the Click Here button at the bottom. Next week when I'm at the track I'm going to look around and see what the other guys are using and then I will probably buy a set of those if I don't see something better.

zooyork155- I've had the big bores on my old T-Maxx and owned AE shocks before. I really prefer the big bores. If you look around especially on e bay you should be able to find some threaded alum. shocks for about the same price though.
nitrodude_1- IMO the best things to spend weight on with alum. is the bulkheads, lower braces, and maybe something else you tend to break alot more than other things. RPM body mounts, shock towers, suspension arms, skidplate covers, and their knuckles. A Kimborgh spur gear. Then there are other things like alum. shocks and CVDs. None of things are musts but these things are what would be best to have as upgrade parts. I race and bash my T-Maxx almost stock(alum. lower braces, CVDs, 645MG servo, trinity springs) and havn't yet broken anything so I really like it. My opinion is based partially on how strong certain parts look and feel and how likely they are to break, my first generation Maxx, and what I have seen other people break the most. Hope this helped.

I assume you havn't broken it in yet? If not after each tank make sure you turn the flywheel untill the engine is at BDC (bottom dead center).
Make sure you clean and oil the air filter once it gets dirty.
Buy a throttle return spring. They are about $2 at a hobby store and will save you alot of money if your radio or receiver goes dead. I tried to find a place to put it on the carberateur itself but I couldn't find a place to put it that would pull it all the way back without putting alot of strain on the servo and spring. I got a losi return spring which came with a little eyelet. I put the eyelet behind the throttle servo arm and put another collet behind it. Then I took the other collet and screwed it in to the side of the battery box with a short screw. It works great.
If for some reason you have to take your starter motor wires off you will have a hard time keeping the plugs back on the motor. I've heard of some ways people keep theres on but I just cut the plugs off and put them through the hole in the motor tab and wrapped it around. It will hold and have the best conection with solder but it will be harder to take off too.
I'd buy some other wheel nuts. The stock ones seem to unscrew themselves very easily.
I'd buy some shock oil and refill all the shocks. They arn't filled very well from the factory. There really bubbly. I'd suggest probably 40wt or so depending on what you are doing.
That is all I can think of. If you need any other help that is what this forum is for.
Thanks for your help ! This is really appreciated !
Anything special with the breakin ??? Special fuel ? Special carb settings ?
For the throttle return spring, I'll use one of my 10GT but I plan to buy a fail safe....

08-08-2003, 05:20 PM
slaf- No problem. No special break-in fuel is needed. It seems for alot of people the HSN(high speed needle) is too lean from the factory. If you don't have a temp gauge that would be a very good thing to buy(like the one tempgun.com sells for $30-$35). Even if you have a fail safe you should still run a return spring. The fail safe won't help if you have problems with your linkage or your reciever batterys go dead. IMO a fail safe will only really protect you from interference which is IMO less serious than dead batterys or linkage problems. Hope this helped. :)

I have a medal gear servo. It is a Hobbico CS-70. What servo saver do you guys with medal gear servos use? I am looking for suggestions what to replace my old worn one with?

kojak61- I don't think that is a baffle. It is more of a seal. I just tried my AE Factory Team pipe today. I think I'm going to go with it for now. It has more power than the TRX pipe but it is close in comparison. For as inexpensive as my 645MG servo was I really like it. For $35 you can't beat it. No complaints here.

yes the stock t maxx 2.5 pipe has a baffle. it is like a cone in the end of the pipe. when getting a larger displacement engine this must be drilled out with a 1/4 inch drill bit. it will probably increse performance with the stock engine also.

It really isn't much of a baffle. Not at all like the old one. I might email Traxxas and ask them what the purpose is. It dosn't matter to me any more. I got an exhuast coupler yesterday so I put my AE FT pipe on. :)

So far what I like is. 40wt. all around, 2 blue Trinitys and 2 stocks on the front and rear, suspension arm level with the ground, and lower mounting position on the shocks is the second one from the outside. I'm going to experiment some more with it next time. I think I'll try a little thicker oil like 45wt, lower it down another 1/2" with some fuel tubing instead of a normal shock limiter, and I might try the shocks on the outside hole on the arm. But yeah, my maxx is running great still. I broke my first 2.5 T-Maxx part a few days ago. I was bashing it in my back yard and I landed my jump sideways at an angle into the front right wheel. So it broke the little part where the hinge pin goes through off.

wow, this is a great site. i am highly thinking of buying a used t-maxx off a guy for 250. probably will do it pretty soon thanks to all the info on here.
this forum is weird though in the fact that they use threads for something that has so many posts. Why cant they make a seperate tmaxx forum under the traxxas one? on a car site, they dont have a forum with one board for chevy's, its a board for each make of chevy. if they did that, each thread would contain info toward a specific issue on the tmaxx rather than having to search through 3 HUGE threads for a specific issue. i know there is the search function, but i just think the idea above would work a lot better. now there may be a limit to the number of forums they can have, if thats so, oh well, but if they can add a tmaxx forum within the traxxass forum, that would make this board 100x better. thanks mods! -Ryan

$250? Is it stock?
This is the T-maxx forum. There isn't a Traxxas thread. There is the Traxxas page with all the traxxas vehicle threads under it. As for making seperate sections for each question or problem. That would probably end up with people cross posting alot and people don't know where to put there question and people don't want to be subscribed to 10 threads just for one vehicle. Not to mention if somebody is just reading the posts then it would be hard to switch form the thread to thread. Instead of reading back through the pages for an answer to your question you can just post it again if it is on one of the vehicle forums or if it isn't answered on one of the general discussion forums. Just don't repost a common question on the Nitro forum for example. It gets cluttered up with alot of how can I tell if my engine is too lean questions and how do I clean my air filter questions. Have fun with your maxx if you get it. :)

I have a 3 speed tmaxx with a .24-7 engine and lightened chassis. I don't have a radar gun but I was wondering if anyone had an estimate on how fast it will go. On the external 3 speed there is a 43 tooth gear then a 30 tooth gear. THANKS

Last night I got a 1st gen. T-Maxx with all Robinson Racing Steel gears, an OS .15 and Proline maxx Mashers glued on RPM blue "Clawz" wheels. It has many other hop ups too. I got it with this stuff for $50.00 completely RTR. It runs good too. I broke the pull start this morning though. Does the Proline suspension kit for $45 come with the longer CVD's or are those seperate?

tmaxxfast- You can do the math with a stopwatch and a 100ft. stretch. That works pretty well. It won't be the most accurate because you may hit the stopwatch too soon or late but it will give you a pretty close measurement. LUK how you like that 3 speed I havn't heard of many people with them.
hyper-7 44- That is one heck of a deal!! The pro line suspension for $45 does not include the CVDs. Have fun with it. :)

1 Bad STi:
You asked for adapters for putting Maxx wheels on a 1/8 buggy.
Sorry I don't have Adapters, but I found something that was just as easy.
OFNA Dominator Rims, have a 17mm Hex, and fix Maxx tyres.
http://131.103.200.135/DSCF1664.JPG
Only problem is, the tyre and Rim's are dedicated to the 1/8 buggy, you can't switch back and forth, UNLESS you get 1/8 adapters for the Maxx.
The oversized tyres do cause STRESS on the buggy Diff's and I've killed one set so far. Upping the Oil ##### helps.

I raced my maxx again last night. In the 1st qualifier my wheel nut backed off and rounded the hex right out of my RPM Clawz wheel. I ended up buying a bag of thinner 5mm. lock nuts so I could double them up. That worked well and it seemed to fix the problem. The next qualifier I finished 2 of 5(unfortuanatly only 5 last night). But in the main I came off the straight onto a high speed stretch. Right as I came to the end of the stretch someone jumped the pipe on the other side. I ended up hitting her in the front but I hit her with the outside of my right wheel. It was nasty since I was going full throttle. I ended up breaking a lower suspension arm, front bulkhead(in two places), shock cap, bent shock shaft, and a really badly bent turnbuckle. I ended up getting a set of RPM arms for the one I broke(to complement the other side, hehe), aluminum shock caps, etc. I didn't pick up the bulks though. I was looking at ACNCM bulkheads. Has anybody ever bent a set of 6061 bulks? Should I bother or would I be in the same boat as the people that buy 6061 arms?
Sorry for the long story.
Thanks

After installing the MAXX Performance Suspension Kit will I still be able to use the RPM arms for the 2.5 t-maxx? I’m talking about the different color maxx arms.
Thanks

offroadcrazy01- Yes, you can. But why would you want to buy the PL suspension kit if you want RPM arms? You could just buy the RPM arms and then the other little things that come with the PL suspension.

hey there fellas I have a couple questions? is there any other motor the ez start will work with besides the stock 2.5? Also will the M-16 have more power than a 2.5? thanks.
Got Speed
09-18-2003, 01:21 AM
LosiXXX-NTRacer- I don't know what engines the EZ start will work with but I have seen a guy at the track with an EZ start on his Sirio. The M-16 is less powerful than the 2.5. If you can swing it I would highly suggest the Sirio .18.
I'm going to have to get some pics saturday if I go to the BMX park. It's going to be great if I can get my alum. shock caps from leaking. What oil are you guys running with for racing? I was using 40wt. but after several other good drivers told me they were using 60 or 80wt. oil I tried 60wt. It is really weird. When I start out running it is really heavy damping and bounces of the ground on landings but corners well. After a few minutes of running it will bottom out and feel as though it is a much thinner oil when pushing the truck down. Anybody experience this?
Anybody on the 6061 vs. 7075 bulk question?

What is the best .15-.18 engine to put in a tmaxx. I need an engine with a lot of rpm's to get a lot of speed. Not a 2.5

LosiXXX-NTRacer- Pretty much the same with me. My 2.5 runs fine so I'm going to run it quite a while probably. Unless I come across a real great deal. I've got a .21 conversion I got from a guy real cheap too. Maybe I'll use it some time.

From what I have seen and heard CVECs are really great pipes. There is a guy at my track with one and it seems really nice.

I was reading what people said about the cvec's and one guy was saying they were great and the other guy said he would rather use a different pipe because of all the tuning problems and the springs and stuff. What about the Paris Turbo Ring pipe?
Got Speed
09-27-2003, 11:22 AM
From what I have seen and heard the ringed pipes don't give any performance advantage over a normal pipe. The ringed pipes are 99% look in my opinion. Some of the Novarossi pipes are pretty good.

I just put a new set of Dynamite shocks on my Maxx. I have black trinity springs on 4 shocks and the original reds on 4 shocks.
R B R B
F R
R B R B
All the shocks are balanced on compression/rebound. Front and back are set for tallest ride height.
Now when I jump, even on the smallest jumps, it front flips every time and it never did that with the stock shocks. The chassis is level when fully ready to run.
Now the dumb question...if I lower the back end, by changing the shock mounting, should this fix my problems?
Any suggestions??

if it is a 2.5 maxx the black springs in the rear may have too much spring rate for little jumps. will it take off good on bigger jumps?

I know this isn't a buy/sell/trade forum but I am in desperate need of a 2.5 carb!! I bought my truck used and just realized the low speed needle is stripped. I will never buy a used truck again I got scamed on the whole thing.. Aside from that I have the truck in working order and expect to be running it shortly. THanks!
