This may be a little broad in the model selection, but it may still work. They all share many similar parts. For the record, I've a SN w/ Lamborghini body.

Einsteindks, I think you have a point. This is kind of broad. But look at other ones. They are broad and they are doing good. But you never know. Anyway, how do you think I will do in sport racing with the following hop-ups on my Nitro RS4 RTR?
Dynamite .12 SPD PS
MIP Side Pipe
2 Speed
Airtronics High-tork Steering servo
MIP Front and Rear CVDs
HPI Graphite Shock Towers
HPI Graphite Upper Deck
Think I can win Sport races with these hop-ups?

I tried starting one of these a while back.Hey I have a nitrors4 RTR with some hop-ups.
Venomrs4,
I have a O.S.12 max and its the best you can buy,in my opinion. You also really dont need the two speed,I just raced this weekened in the rookie class and spanked the pants off the mugens and serpents with a singal speed while they have a 2-speed I geuss it was mostly my driving, remeber, slow and calm is fast and fast and out of control is slow.Hope to keep this page going.nitrocam3 :D

Hey Venom, those are some nice add-ons. Only problem is hop-ups alone never won a race. You driving skills and technique are what will enable you to squeeze the performance out of your modded ride. Practice wins races. Not to shoot ya down, just sharing what I know. Also, are you sure that the 'Sport' class will allow all those hop-ups? I thought 'Sport' was limited to mild mods only. :)
VenomRS4
08-18-2001, 07:38 PM
I'm not sure if I will be let into sport class. I should. At my track, sport cars have to be less then .7 hp and must have less than 400 bucks in hop-ups. And you are right, driver's skills do win races but you can't win a race without a fast car. (that is un-less the other drivers stink at racing)

To get your Nitro RS4 RTR ready to run, you need to paint the body, get gas, get a glow warmer, and get batteries for the controller and reciever.

Hey gang!
I'm considering getting a RS42 kit - have to wait for the LHS to get it in, they only seem to have Super's on the shelves. I'll be having some fun in a parking lot (for now). I was wondering about the pebble vs belt problem I've heard about. Exactly how bad or how often do pebbles get in and mess stuff up?
Einsteindks
08-22-2001, 06:50 PM
They LOVE to get in and chew up the rear belt mostly. Just carry 2 extra belts. I've been told/shown that if you put some very fine mesh screening between the chassis and the mounted plasic/metal parts, it'll keep the big chunks out and still allow airflow.
Thanks for the tip. Is it like window screen mesh? Where would it have to be to be the most helpful? Do you have any pictures of the installed mesh?

That's right, rjb, regular window screen mesh. The real fine stuff will do nicely. Just tear down the rear half of your car (I know, it's a 'big' job) and lay the screen over the chassis. Cut to fit.
Ok, sounds easy enough, the mesh stops them from coming through the bottom. Do the front tires ever kick them up and onto the chassis? My orriginal thoughts were lexan wheel wells or something - that would be a pain for every body I decide to get. Or maybe a piece of lexan between the top and bottom of the belt near the gears but not touching anything (except a brace) so the rock never makes it to that point. Maybe glue/tape that to a brace or something.

I bought a RS4 2 last year, I race every now and then, but never with great results. So far I have added a racing clutch, swaybars, thicker 40wt oil, and pro-line sedan hawg tires. What would be the next hop-up I should get?

I ran my RS4-2 for like 6 tanks then the rear diff stopped working, it fell apart when i took apart the 2 halves that hold it on the chassis. Should I buy a new diff housing or something? or do diffs just need to be tightened every few runs? Thanks
OK, I just got a RS4 2 Kit and I'm so excited!!!!!!
Any tips on assembly?

hey rjb, my tips are take your time and pay attention. It goes together pretty easy, especially if you have built cars before. It took me about 8 hours to complete mine, I just had some confussion since this was my first car and kit. but after its together it is a blast to run. Mine is already being abused. LOL :D :D
I was thinking of gettin The Nitro RS4 RTR.Are the any good. Anything that u will have to replace rigt when u get it. Any problems. Easy to tune for begginners also are the fast without the 2 speed how much is the 2 speed. thanx :D
Losi Kid - I personally don't suggest the RS4 RTR, only due to the fact that you should build it yourself, and you really can't race with it. You can... but it isnt the best choice. I would suggest getting the RS4 Racer2 if you decide to race.
Troy - TSR6 www.rctech.net (http://www.rctech.net)
LosiKid, when I was comparison shoping, I found that buying the Nitro RS4 2 Kit and a mid range radio was only slightly more expensive than the RTR (like $30 maybe). I finished my kit last night (except for the body) and it wasn't too hard. It took 3 nights of 3 hours apiece and it was my first car. And I had fun doing it, and feel confident I could make a field repair without the manual handy if I needed too.
Plus with the Kit you get adjustable turnbuckles if you want them. It also comes with the fixed links like the RTR.
And you can add some mods, like better brakes for example, without having to disassemble the car first.

Nitro RS4's are great entry level nitro cars. PLenty of speed out of the box for beginners, and plenty of fun. HPI only needs to remove the cast flywheel(at least put a machined in the kit), add a decent head and it's great. Here's my complete car

OrcSlayer,
If you're not done yet - probably are - the only note on assembly I have is that I would recommend that you attach the shock absorber ball studs on the suspension arms before you put the arms on the chassis. I found it kind of awkward to do it when they said to later on.
You're probably past that by now, but it's probably good for future reference. Cool name, by the way.
I just broke mine in over the weekend and all I can say is - :D

since it would be all stock, it should be pretty light. Probably as fast of gears as you wanted to put in it. By its I mean, if you're just goin' leave the stock 44/41 in there, it's not goin' go real fast. But if you drop in a crazy 41/37 or something close, it going to haul.
P.S. with everything stock, don't count on the handling to be to good. Esp. w/stck tires/wheels

Thanks, rjb! :) I started breaking mine in today and I need a bit of help. I got it started but it was shaking and the engine was loud. I think I had the throttle open too much so I killed it. Later I ran it with the throttle closed more. Less shakes and it was quieer I couldn't see any smoke coming from the exhaust so I started worrying I would mess it up and stopped it. What should I do?

10-10-2001, 05:29 PM
Well, since it won't let me edit my old post, I'm adding a new one. My friend has experience with 2-stroke engines and he helped me break it in. We were driving it around, and its the most fun I've had in a long time. But my antenna wire was rubbing on a belt and it has stripped away the shrink wrapping. It wouldv'e started on my wire, but we ran out of gas. What should i do about that, and can I get a new antenna without getting a new receiver? Also, what should I do to maintain my car and engine specifically. Is there anything I should do while storing it?
Einsteindks
10-10-2001, 08:14 PM
You won't see any smoke at idle. You should see some when it's running at speed. During wear-in, the engine should be running cool, so the oil content won't be heated enough (should be) to cause it to smoke. Also, when running rich, it will not be as vibration free as normal.
BigCatDaddy-Outlaw
10-10-2001, 08:51 PM
A piece of fuel tubing over the antenna wire will solve that problem right quick. All I do to maintain my car is spay it off with diluted Simple Green, an old rag and a toothbrush. A few drops of afterrun oil in the carb and glow plug hole and I'm all good.:) :)

Hey guys I just picked up a super Nitro RS4 from a guy with a 2 speed in it dirt cheap. I was sick of bashing the crap out of my MTX-2 so I decided to get a HPI(cheaper to fix)! Now I would like to know What engines I can get into this car? Can I get a rear exhaust engine? Are the ball diffs worth the money? I will be using it just for fun running which includes some bashing(mostly getting hacked by other friends) but I still have to have it fast and stable like my Mugen! Does anyone make a .21 conversion for the Super? What are the best and most worth the money upgrades I can get for the HPI?

Wolfpack makes a 21 conversion kit and as far as engines go, I suggest the NovaRossi 21's, or the NovaMega .21 Evo IV 7 port Michael Slaven edition.

I got some 20% fuel and, wow! This thing hauls now. I have it 3 turns out and the car will run away withe the throttle servo at neutral unless you hold it back with the brake, which barely seems to hold it. My throttle linkage rod is too short, I think. At neutral it has an opening of around 3 mm. If it make the linkage shorter, the throttle will not open fully. Even messing with my throttle trim as far as it can go, this still happens.

Hey RS4 Suoer Nitro Owners,
Just checked in and wanted to ask what Tuned Pipe are you running on the RS4 Super Nitro's. I have an O.S. 15CVX engine and 2 speed Transmission. I just got this thing off the ebay and boy did it have problems. It was missing a few parts. Now that I have it running I need to get a decent Tuned Pipe. It came with a T-MAXX tuned pipe:rolleyes: . It worked but mainly just directs fumes from under the car body. The body is a Diablo but I have ordered a New Corvette Body.
:D :D :D

With a .15 CVX just about any tuned pipe will do. I would get a Paris ringed, a Nova Rossi or like me I got the C-VEC. I too bought a used Super that was in pretty ruff shape and with some time and money it is great!

My son has the RS4-2. We got it used from the Local Hobby Shop, and it had problems. It wouldn't run very fast and it sounded like it was straining or had the brakes on. We took off the tuned pipe to put another one on and I just happened to pick the pipe up and a piece of fuel tubing fell out of it. This pipe is the HPI pipe that has the fuel tuing just stuck in it like the RC10GT's do  . Well we put a pressure fitting in it and put it back on and this thing just flies!!!
We ran thins car all summer. One day we ran it almost an hour before we shut it down! it is the stock FE engine and has served us good. It likes the 10 percent fuel better than the 20. I guess because it gets hot and humid here in Florida.
We have added all the braces and belt tensioners and aftermarket head. It now has aluminum wheels and slicks on it.
We plan to put a Picco in it when the HPI FE 15 dies but it is still hanging in there. We mainly just parking lot race with a few other people.:D :D :D

Have you tuned any on the C-vec pipe? I hear they are a little on the loud side. The noise doesn't bother me. I have one of the ringed Paris pipes I can try but it is on my son's RC10GT, of course he wouldn't need it when we are at the parking lot! Thanks for the info. Anybody else????:D :D :D :D

My friend has a stock FE in his Super too and it is so reliable he has never changed it! It actually is a pretty fast engine for a stock FE! I bought mine for $50 without a engine so I put in a OS.12CV for now and it runs pretty fast.
Raydee
11-22-2001, 09:30 PM
I have tuned the CVEC and I don't think that is loud at all. I actually think that it is more quiet than most tuned pipes. It has a different sound for sure. A few of the guys I race with have the CVEC and just gutted them so they don't have to tune them but I left all the insides in mine and have it set on the farthest hole foward and it makes a difference from other pipes. Another good pipe to try is the stock AE pipe.

I got my Nitro RS4 2 in a trade, and am making it my winter project. I have found many design problems with it, so I am working on fixing the steering slop, and am almost done designing a way to put a center fuel tank and servo in the car (just need a grahite sheet). I have been running electric for 5 years, and I was offered this car for a Micro RS4 with nothing in it. It was a piece when I got it, it was completely dirty, and had a locked front diff(guy filled it with rubber cement by accident), and had no grase in the rear diff, had 30wt oil in the rear, and 100 wt in the front, and had trinty congo springs all around. Needless to say, it was quite a refurbishing job to get it how it is now.I am gonna add the Graphite upper deck, and Robinson Brake (I hate brake fade during the hour mains).

http://members.home.net/rc10t3/nitro5.jpg
And my BMW M3 body, I painted this one simple becuase I know its gonna get torn up next year for racing.
http://members.home.net/rc10t3/bmw4.jpg
http://members.home.net/rc10t3/bmw3.jpg
As far as setup: I am running a front one-way, and the rear gear diff thats filled with associated Black Grease. It has Associated Purple springs in the rear, and red in the front. It has associated 40wt oil, and a purple swaybar up front.
(Anyone guess what electric Touring car and Truck I have? LOLOL)

Hi everyone...I'm new to RC and I'm planning on getting a HPI RS4 2 for my first car. I decided after reading around here to not get a RTR kit from people recommending to get one to put together yourself ony because then you will really know how to work, repair and tune it properly. I'm just wondering if anyone encountered any major problems when building this paticular car? Maybe something that was just a real problem to get together or that the instructions didn't explain to clearly how to do it. Any tips on assembly would be appreciated too. Thanks.........:D

Sabre, all HPI kits go together easliy and I would recommoned you get the diff spring set and put them in the diffs before you completely the car. Avaliablehere (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXZT47&P=7)
Also go to hpiracing.com and click instructions, then pick the car you're planning to get. Read them over them seen what you don't understand, then ask us:)

This is coming from a fellow beginner who also started out with this car. I also avoided RTR for the same reason. But anyway, I found the istructions perfectly clear. Parts are in seperate bags that you open as you go along. The parts seem to be very good quality to me and there was only one "deformed" one. A hole for a screw was too small so I twirled an X-acto knfie around in it and then screwed the screw in. A better approach would probably be to use a screw tap, but if you do encounter a problem like this, its obviously not worth it to go and buy one. I asked this question on this forum too and I'm passing on some advice that was given to me while building. You should screw the purple anodised ball stud screws onto the suspension arms before mounting them on the chassis as it is kind of annoying to do it later. Just look ahead in the instructions and find which bag their in. One thing that initially annoyed me to no extent was the e-clips. Make sure you get everything on right before putting these on as it is a pain to take the small ones off and when you do, they go flying off, never to be seen again. I think there were about 2 extra small ones in the kit. I recomment usnig needle nose pliers to put them on, which is also a pain in the butt. Well, hope this helped, and happy building. I enjoyed putting this car together for the most part. :)

I'm having a problem with my stock Super Nitro RS4. I can't roll my car around on the floor without turning over the engine. I have to lift it up off the ground to start it up (it ran perfectly fine) and when I put it on the ground it just dies.

I think for parking lots and streets the proceed will encounter too many rocks.

Also, the owner of the local Hobby shop had a mugen mtx-2 kit and said it has more standard parts already than hpi, and is a little cheaper, 55mph out of the box!!
But I love the hpi bodies and detail!!!
OrcSlayer
01-01-2002, 08:05 PM
You mean the detail on the larger scale bodies, right? Because I would just get the Mugen and an HPI body if the Mugen is better like you say. Don't those big 1/8 cars go like 70 mph? I hope you're planning on driving in a big parking lot. And don't they have foam tires too? If they do, I don't think they will last too long on a parking lot surface unless its clean. I have heard the Super can handle rocks and pavement deformities better than a 1/10 car.
kbolt
01-01-2002, 08:12 PM
Yeah OrcSlayer,
the serpant is 1/8 racer that will do 70mph, and will eat a lot of rocks.
The hpi super is probably a good choice b/c is bigger, I just wish it had a bigger engine than the .15
hey im getting a M16 what would be a good gear ratio for it what would be a good pipe and a new clutch. whats good springs and shock oil? also what are good chassis stiffening parts? thanks love my rs4 really fun and durable

Hi guys,
I've got a Racer (original) with the HPI .12r SC engine. Thinking about getting a two-speed for it, but have a few questions:
1. What's the difference between the ordinary and Heavy-Duty two speeds? Recommended gear ratios for the heavy-duty?
2. Can this two speed be used on any other cars?
3. It seems that parts might be getting scarce soon. Any opinions on this? The car is hardly used and in great shape, but I'm leery of putting money into it if I can't find parts.
4. Anything else I should get to make the car raceworthy (I'll finally have the time, after almost two years of ownership)? I'm not into anything serious, just hanging in at the local track. Also, not into anything that just looks good.
Any insight or opinions, please let me know. Thanks.
Thanks guys.

well of course i own an RS4 and the only problem i've had with it was what shwan_s has with the throttle linkage. i fixed mine by trimming it out on the radio but i know it's like this cause of the os engine i put in. the os engine carb is a little bit bigger than the stock hpi one.
My Nitro RS4 2 has the following:
OS .12 cvrx max, has one horse
MIP Side Pipe with header
Rear sway Bar(from the engine being so powerful)
yellow springs with 50 wt. oil
JR XR3 Radio with standard futaba and jr servos
6.0V receiver bettery
HPI Heavy Duty 2 Speed
HPI racing clutch
Motor saver air cleaner
this is by far the most enjoyable car to drive due to the driving skill it takes.

i got the picco engine in my rs4 and sometimes when i start my car, i cant accelerate or give any gas to the engine or it makes a brrrrrrrr type sound and doesnt rev up....and if i give too much throttle to the engine, then it kills it......usually, if i leave it alone or mess with some of the adjustments then the idle will jump higher to what its supposed to be and then i can drive it....i just wanted to know if anyone knows what the problem might be...
TIA, Billy

I finally pulled my car out after 4 months or so today. I didn't do any maintainance like putting in after run oil, but it started right up. Even after running for a few seconds, the engine is too hot to touch. This never happened with 10% fuel, only 20%. It also seems to be giving off smoke, but it might have just been smoke leaking from where the manifold connects (I don't have any mods like a header on this car). Is it just supposed to be like this or am I overheating badly? I was 1 and a half turns out. One more thing, what does the little idle screw do? I just want to make sure I'm not killing engine because I may buy a Duratrax Axis and if I won't be able to get both an neigne and an Axis.

Ive been considering picking up a nitro street car for some time now, and the RS4 looked like a good choice in all versions( except Rally and MT, they're not really street cars). I have yet to discovet the difrerence between The RS4 2 and the Super RS4? Its probably pretty obvious, and I'm just slow on picking up on it. Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the RTR, 2, and Super. Im still not sure what to buy. I like to race, but Im not hardcore about it. Any response is greatly apprieciated. Thanx!

Is your car balanced well? You may need to bring some weight up to the front. I would suggest any body with a low, swept forward front end. Good luck correcting this problem, I can imagine your frustration. Too bad the M3 is doing that, I was thinking of getting one of those.

I would check the exaughst manifold, rust or somting else may have formed some sort of a "seal" between the manifold and the exaughst port. Thus, exaust is building up creating preasure, making the engine work harder, and also causing the smoke to leak from the manifold connection. The idle screw tunes the idle to increase idle time, and keep the engine going at a high enough RPM to accelerate without stalling. Its very important to keep tuned.

Normally an engines temperature runs from 240-260 degrees. To test if your engine is overheating, either spit or place a drop of water on the heat sink. If it boils away in less than 3-5 seconds.STOP!!! and let your engine cool down.:)

M3 - I was told by LHS to use the Heavy Duty 2-speed for the high-output engines. I believe the Pinion is beefier and the gears in the assembly can be switched out, otherwise pretty much the same (not much price difference either, about $10 to $15).

I had the suspension arms and CVD's from my NMT to SNR conversion so I just needed to spend another $40 or so and now I have a body-less SNRS4. I plan on getting the LMR body for it soon.

right now i'm cleaning my super nitro, when i get some money i will finish up my super nitro. Here are my hop ups:
graphite upper deck
graphite y brace
stainless steel hinge pin set
graphite front shock tower
graphite rear shock tower
foam bumper
MG Hitec servo for steering
ofna pipe
racing clutch
2 speed
Traxxas .15 pro
custom made Fiberglass brake disk
racing fuel tank
receiver cover
4 10-30 tires
Sway bar set
Powerline aluminum steering
fuel filter
my transmission is all broke so i took it out, i plan on taking my TRX engine out with the HPI manifold and a Ofna pipe.
My future plans are to rebuild the drivetrain with a HD transmission, and some aluminum drivetrain parts, then get 24tooth pulleys and 32tooth diffs, and put a very high rpm engine with like 1.25hp or more. After that i plan on putting 37/20 gearing on the HD transmission, with a powerful engine and 37/20 gearing and 24 tooth pulleys and 32 tooth diffs i plan on getting high 70's mph i will also get some good motor mounts and a RRP vented flywheel, and a big manifold and a CVEC pipe.

two questions becaue my firend and i are thinking about getting one each and racing them. we are looking for them without engine or radio.
first question:
is a 21 too powerful for this thing or will a high rpm 12 be fine for it?
second question:
how is the handling with the diablo body?

also on the racing slicks, do they have good traction on asphalt , parking lots or concrete? how bout in the rain?
what tires would u recommend for in the rain?

THe super nitro can take a .12 engine, but its best to use a strong .15 to really get the car moving since its bigger and heavier than a 1/10th sedan. The diablo body works fine for it. Its a great body. Sure the .12s have the rpm, but a .15 has the torque, and with low gearing, should make the car surprisingly quick. I thought of buying a super nitro as I do like big cars. :) Also because its wider so the handling will be better.

ok back, i ran my super nitro and the traxxas 15 pro sucked, i had as long as i had my super nitro, i started it and waited for it to warm up and then i pressed the throttale there was too much wheel spin, so i had to richen the low end and when i did, it started stalling, and i had to play around with the set screw that controls the opening with the carb, the engine was overheating in the matter of 5 min, you could see the steam coming out of the engine head:eek: and i was running it rich!!!!!!when i richened it the car barely moved it took a long time to build speed, as soon as i hit second gear i had to hit the brakes cause i was out of space the TRX is unprodctive sorry i ever got it, i tried to sell it for $30 with the motor mounts and pipe and manifold, but nobody would buy it cause they know the trx sucks. as soon as i get my fantom engine i'll take off the traxxas and throw it away, the pipe is useless too, cause some little kid in a nitro 4 tec busted up my pipe. the 2 speed worked, i was unsure that it was working but when i got to 25-30mph i heard it shift but it is still old i'll just get the HD one, i know that i can get the first gear adapter for mine, but it's not worth it. And I can tune engines, but the TRX is out of a question a loser engine, it kept over heating on me at crystal park and i had to run across the track to get every 5 min, it was embarasing:o at the track guys with novas and other engines just tune them and race the whole day, i spent half the day trying to get the engine right so it wouldn't overheat.

I hate to burst your bubble, skylineman, but the HPI 15SS is not made by Novarossi. The only Novarossi-made engines they have are the 12R RC, 12R SC, Evo II, and their .21. Their .15 engines as well as their new 12R SS are made by some company in Japan.

come on you guys gotta help me with this.........
I got a nitro rs4 racer 2.
2 speed tranny from hPI.
i got the car second hand- 2 speed was working for a while. then it stopped woking. I tighten the grub screw and do 1/8th turns util it should have reached the gear change point. It did't. Instead the grub screw and spring and ball fell out cause they got too loose. so i went out and bought another grub screw etc.
YES, i did install the right spring for my engine. yes the arm moves freely. Yes I installed it the right way round.yes i put the ball then the spring then the grub screw.
This is my scond attempt. If I do not find the setting what should I do????

MN, try using threadlock on the grub screw to keep it inplace. I've had probs on my elec car where the grub screw comes loose of the pinion.
RcLab1- The super nitro .21 conversion would be cool to have, but you wont be able to race in a 1/8th class because the SN isnt a 1/8th nor 1/10th. If you want to race 1/8th onroad, then go for the GS sonic. Ive heard great things about this car and it was quote " The fastest rtr". Check out GS's site for more info about this car. I think its a sweet 1/8th onroad car. Also Id think youd have more buying the GS sonic, than buying a .21 conv kit for the super nitro and and a powerful .21 engine.

do you think it would be worth it to convert a rs4 2 to an rs4 3
many parts are the same. wheels, Suspensoin, shocks, engine, ball bearings, diffs, drive shafts.
parts dont look too expensive.
Hpi how about a conversion kit.
You ARE kidding, aren't you? By the time you bought all the parts to do the "conversion" you could have bought a new NRS4-3SS kit! Okay, almost.
illa5thflip

went through a price list from tower hobbies. listed the parts needed and priced it out to $114.93. if there were a conversion kit from hpi this may drop to $80. could be worth while.
What are you buying for $114?
To convert a NRS4-2 to a NRS4-3 you have to replace everything but the engine, engine mounts, flywheel, clutch, clutchbell, servos, wheels, dogbones, hingepins, axles, shocks, and bearings. You need to buy diff housings, diffs, diff parts, drive shafts, center housing, center drive parts (or two speed), front and rear suspension mounts, front bumper, upper deck, radio tray, shock towers, and probably more parts that I have missed.
choops
10-07-2002, 07:09 AM
HERE WE GO.
HPI step screw $1.90
gear shaft $4.79 X 2
center shaft $4.79
Diff final gear set $5.79 X 2
cup joint brake $6.69
brake cam $4.79
main chasis $26.99
exhaust header $12.99
radio tray $6.69
Shock tower, bumper set $6.69
support set $3.89
center dogbone $4.79 X 2
diff housing $4.79 X 2
total $115.74
Am I missing something?
Not sure. I really don't want to go through the entire manual for the NRS4-3 to cross reference everything you need. You either need a spur gear or, more than likely, the two-speed (the one-speed option is s-l-o-w...) then there's the steering belcranks, the pilot shafts they ride on (on the NMT these are longer, not sure if that is the case here). Also, you seemed to have missed the little diff gears as well as the plastic housings that they go into. There's probably a few more items I missed. If you go with the two speed then you're near the $200 range.
choops
10-08-2002, 06:47 AM
with 2 speed it is still cheaper than a new kit at $289.
I think I am going to try a conversion.
But I will be making my own chasis and upper deck.
Want to make other improvements too.
Been there, done that. Hope you have deep pockets.

An O.S. .12cv-r and a paris turbo ring pipe will do great. Or if you want more power and speed, slap in an mt12 with an novarossi pipe and header, rb concepts and an rb tuned pipe, or the trinity siro .12. Either one of these engines or pipes are great for racing. Just think about how much you will like to spend and go for it. Check the track listings on www.rccaraction.com . Have fun racing:cool:

I hav a Nitro MT, and i luv da quality of HPi's stuff. I'm gonna b coming in2 some money soon(im only 13, it doesnt happen often:p )I'm stuck between two cars, either the RS4 3 type SS or the Super Nitro RTR. I lik da Super Nitro because its so big, and i run on a kinda rough parking lot so I need a lil bit of extra ground clearance. But i think the Type SS might be good for that 2, because of its Shaft drive. Any suggestions or comments about both of these kits would be really helpful, thanks guys:)

I was just lookin for a car 2 bash with, when i race, i drive electric:cool: lol. But can it handle small bumps on parking lots and stuff, cause if it can, then it's the car for me. I kinda wanted something big, because in my opinion its a little bit more realistic, but for the money, they don't come much better than the Type SS. So that's probably what I'll buy.
P.S: The Super NItro RS4 is 1/10 SCALE, just super sized, so whether or not they race 1/8 on road means nothing, because the Super Nitro isnt 1/8 scale

NMT CVD axles, front and rear
Associated B3 CVD bones
MIP CVD rebuild kits
The B3 bones, being made for an American car, has thicker pins on the end of it and these need to be shaved down to fit your outdrives. Other than that they work great.

Here are the part# for the conversion:
Associated #9278, B3/B2 CVD Bone (need 4 packages) $8.00 ea.
HPI #80817, NMT Front CVD axle (need 1 package) $15.00 ea.
HPI #80818, NMT Rear CVD axle (need 1 package) $15.00 ea.
HPI #72013, NMT CVD rebuild kit (need 2 packages) $3.00 ea.
The CVD rebuild kit can also be bought from MIP (#1010 I think)
The CVD bones can also be bought from MIP (sorry no #)
You may want to consider switching to the Nitro Rush Diff Out-Drives as they are about 2mm longer and the pin engagement is rather shallow with the CVD conversion installed.

The Standard 2spd spur gears are 44/41.
HPI makes optional clutch bells in 13/18, 13/20, 14/17 and 15/18 You will need to change the 2nd gear spur for the 13/18 and 13/20 clutch bells.
The 14/17 and 15/18 will direct fit, but you may have to make the slots in the chassis for the Motor mounting longer.

will the schumacer 3 speed tranny fit on my racer2?
or any 3 speed out there..this engine has so much potential..it just screams, and it wants to scream some more!!
I need more top end ,and at the same time not so lagging on the low end .I was thinking of the super nitro gearing, will that fit?
right now i have that stock 2 speed from HPI i think it s like 13/16 clutch bell and 41/44.
any suggestions...
oh, I know this ones silly, but my friend just bought the SAVAGE 21, its pretty good...so I was wondering, can I convert my racer 2

Open belts and off road vehicles aren't a good combination, so I wouldn't suggest trying to convert a RS4 or RS4 2 to a MT. If you had a RS4 3 that would be another story....

Anybody knows how fast is the RS4 racer 2 with the OS .12CVR goes with the stock 2-speed gearing?
It'll go about 40-45 mph. If you change the gearing you'l get afew mph faster.

Wow, that's slower than expected. The traxxas nitro 4tec advertise for 60mph with the improved trx2.5. The hpi must have gearing for accel rather than top speed. Or maybe the trx2.4 have much more hp and/or rpm than the O.S .12 cvr?
