Anybody own one? What do you think of it?

I have one. Its a decent car. I love to take it out and fly up and down the street with it. In the Qualifier form they aren't taht good but I've upgraded mine to a tuned pipe, bearings, slipper clutch, and I'm using rubber tires not the foams. I wouldn't be surprised if this car could hit 45mph. Its fast. Plus with some of the aftermarket gears available from Robinson Racing you can go even faster.

I purchased the electric version a few years back as an on-road basher. I built up a RC10 a few years before, and they are basically the same car with different arms/shocks. It was a great car to play around with, until I saw real touring cars... Compared to a TC3 the RC10DS is pathetic. The design of the RC10DS is based from an off-road car. It would never be competitive with other touring cars. It's a fun car, but I'd recommend spending your money on something a little more designed for racing. But that's only my $.02

Can it be converted into a rally type car
atm92484
03-17-2001, 06:04 PM
I've tried making my NDS a rally car but it wasn't that good. I also didn't go into that much depth but if you spent more time it might be decent. I still prefer my NDS as an on-road car.

The RC10DS is from the original RC10 design. All you’d need to turn it into a full time off-road car/rally would be longer A-arms, longer shocks, shock towers, longer rods, and longer drive shafts. Basically a rally conversion, but you do it yourself.

Does anybody know of any good rubber tires that will work on the DS. I put a HB.18 engine in mine and it just over powers the foam tires, even with the 24 tooth gear.

The set made for the ds works great, i have a nds and love it. :)

If you don't have bearings, get them; they are a must. The Trinity tk1200 engine mount is also a nice add on since it makes the chassis more rigid.

Where can I get a conversion kit for an rc10 team car?
Roush
03-10-2002, 06:25 PM
the ds in the stock form is not able to keep up with current TC's but if you make it mid engine w/ saddle pack style battery mounts it can. I converted my ds to this and found that I can run into corners faster than a 4wd tc and not have any problems with traction. Another plus is the car is faster...no front diffs to turn. The track I race at follow roar rules and they state 4wd or 2wd is allowed. I have made one change to the car thow...I rebuilt the rear end so that the car will fall into the 190mm body range. with alittle messen around ya the car can run with the 4wds.

Do you have any pics of your car Roush?
Roush
03-11-2002, 08:27 PM
sorry guy I don't have any at this time. The conversion is very straight forward. If you go with a 200mm body its very easy. On carpet we use foam tires on tc which works out nice for the DS. On the front I use pancar tires and on the rear I use TC tires. Take a set of TC3 tc wheel adptor and just slide it on the ds axle. you may want to mess with it for a bit to get the width correct to match the front width. My car I have narrowed up a bit to fit 190mm bodies. i redrilled the front holes and the front shock tower to move the suspension closer together. The rear I use TC3 A-arms and mounts to get the width. It sounds like alot but only took me 2 hours to build. The main thing you want to do is check your suspension to make sure its the same on both sides.

do you like it?
does yours handle like a riding lawnmower?
mine does, but i think that's my fault:rolleyes: .
anyway, i just put it together and it is my first on road car. i built it because i had an old rc10 lying around and the conversion kit was a steal. so here i am entering outdoor on road oval, stock. i'll will definately pass on any tuning tips as i work the car out.
i hope all of you will do the same!

from RPM? They have a 1.95 gear ratio setup for the Stealth tranny specifically for road racing. They also have a 2.25 gear ratio for truck racing.
Didn't they make a 2-speed tranny for the stealth tranny? I know Losi's defunct hydradrive system was adapted to the stealth as well.
Definately need to get some parts for DS and get the damned thing painted so I can run it!
Keep em rolling!

im getting mine on friday. After i read the buget blasters i thought it would be a great first car....since im new to the hobby. I have an idea for a project with this car.
What im going to do is take the xray side plates(front and rear). Then Im going to put the back plates ones up front and turn them 180 degrese so that it is some what of a mid motor
set up.Then im going to add a front one-way for 4 wheel drive. to do that im going with a 2 belt set up and am going to use the hollow spring steel layshaft with a one way pulley.
I hope it will turn out good.......if it doesnt i would have wasted lots of cake.

Why not just track down one of the MIP 4WD RC10 Conversion kits? That should give you enough parts to have a decent basis with which to work from.
Or you could mount a tranny up front as well and run it dual motor to really mess with people. Either way it sounds like a fun project.
I just got my DS running a few days ago, its still got bushing as the idiots at my LHS wouldn't even try to get the right bearing set ordered. To them if it isn't a mainstream car, they dont' want to know about it. My car handles pretty well, it understeers pretty badly but that mainly due to the mostly rearward weight bias, but a quick stab on the brakes and it turns in pretty well. I think some stickier fronts might help that some.
Enjoy,
Stefan

If any of you are racing the Dual Sport (electric) on an oval and are interested in decreasing weight, I've got a rare Andy's Graphite chassis for an RC10 with battery slots on the left side. This chassis is REALLY light (3.2 oz) and is already drilled for mid-motor mounting. Email me for more info: sponjican@oreck.com

Mounting touring car wheels is pretty easy. For the rear wheels, just get a set of HPI Super Star wheel adapters, there's a 3/16" ID hex adapter on there that fits. You just have to cut the little 'lip' off the outside, but it works fine.
For the front wheels, it's a little more involved. You basically have to use some kind of touring car steering blocks and axles and stuff.
BRP used to make a set of adapters to mount 12mm hex TC wheels on pan cars. The rear stuff doesn't apply here but for the fronts you were given an aluminum sleeve that fit snugly into the hex in the wheel, and you used epoxy to hold it in place and then drilled through it and used flanged bearings to mount to the axles. The TC front parts would probably cost as much, allow you to rotate tires around, not require permanent mods to the wheels, and not require you to buy new sleeves for each set of wheels.

I turned my ds into a dsT using:
1: complete front end from a old gt
2: dogbones from the rear of my gt
3: foams for a T3, and a t2 body!
Talk about intuition :D

The RC10DS would use the same bearings as the RC10GT, which I'm pretty sure is the same as the T2 and EDS:

Double check the sizes listed with what Associated calls for, and make sure they match up.

Couple months ago I picked up a mint DS on ebay, been thrashing it since.
Modded the front to accept standard tc wheels using T3 c-hubs and traxxas steering block and axles, kinda tricky but it works. I've got B3 buggy wheels on the rear, both have hpi v-groove tires. Topped off with a new Mustang body.
