Yep, that looks very nice! When you getting a trailer? :) I've wanted one since I got my truck together. I'll have one soon but not soon enough!
EDIT, oh, I see you already answered the trailer thing, lol...

I have a couple questions about the flatbed. Any help is appreciated. First, how long is the actual wood thats in the flatbed? What thickness is it? I have an idea for a custom bed but need to know these measurements first.

Build your self a mini city in your back yard, and invite others in your area over. Thats what we did here in AZ be fore we got a spot at the Pheonix "Big Boys And There Toys Show" last June.
There will also be another show in Augest at the national toy truck and constucion show. That one will be held in Indianapolis IN.
I know there's a few other guys in IL with wedico trucks that would love to do somthing in the form of a mini truckers club. All it would take is just ONE guy to start it and find others to join it.
Also just remember Just becose a show is put on by a wedico distrubutor dose not mean tamiya trucks are exluded. In our mind any 1/16th scale to 1/14th scale truck is wecome. Even if its scratch bult bring it on.

Woohoo !!! Its Finally here
Wow this thing is massive  , I wasnt expecting that. :o .....I'm psyched, this will be my FIRST EVER Tamiya kit that I build from scratch, a 3 speed none the less ... I prolly wont get to it for about another week or so , i'll be on vacation during that time
This is definitley gonna be fun to do, now to start figuring out the color scheme and additional hop ups ...I might consider unloading the light kit like Mav suggested and just go for the MFU unit
Hmmm, What to do, What to do.................. :D

Awesome! Your first Tamiya kit is going to be a rig?! Enjoy it! I'm sure it'll be a challenge especially being your first tamiya kit. My first Tamiya and RC for that matter was a King Blackfoot. Tamiya kits are the most enjoyable to build in my opinion.
The first time I opened up my first Semi from big T I couldn't believe how massive they were too! That was the globetrotter truck which I sold because I didn't care for the style of it. Wanted a bigger tandem axle...anyway, I'm getting off topic here. Have fun with the build and post lots of pics!

Glad to see the Globeliner got there in "one" piece. I just got in from Dallas about an hour ago and am in the process of sifting through a mound of e-mails. I saw this post notification and am glad I checked it. You're really going to enjoy the build. I still kind of wish I had kept it just for the pleasure of assembling that mechanical work of art! I may tear down my Kinght Hauler just to build it again.

Alfy you will really, really enjoy the build. Out of all the kits I've done over the years it has been the best. Another suggestion if you want to keep the realizim throw away all the standard Tamiya screws and get some nice stainless steel hex screws. If you want I'll throw you some pics of my Knight Hauler that I did with those type of screws and how much more it helps the truck come to life.

Alfy I don't know of anyone who makes an actual kit. I'm just fortunate enough to have a couple of very good fastener suppliers in my area. If you want I can always do a screw kit for you and ship it down if you don't have the resources I would just need a scan of the pages with all the different screws.
Rapko it did cost me a small fortune. If memory serve's me it was around $100cdn and that's cheap because I have an account and get the screws just above cost.
As for pics I will need to take some later but an example I have now is the MFU for the Knight Hauler.

Heres where i bought my screws, its a place called RC-Screwz.Below is a link to the metric screw page that you can buy in bags of 20-30 screws already bagged.I ended up ordering a decent sized kit with many different sizes etc, then added screws that were not included or ones i needed more of.Plus don't forget to order the nuts, they only offer lock nuts though.I would guess i spent around $150-$200 for my screw collection, but that also includes refills plus a around 10-15 different sizes and types(button head and socket head) in various lengths.I do a lot of scratch building so it is real nice to have the screws on hand and easy reach.
I'm guessing, but for just your GlobeLiner truck, all the threaded screws might cost you around $35-$45 range?.They are good screws, but make sure you use a good hex driver.Have fun with your build,Randy

This is a great forum. Good people/good rigs/good advice/good mix of technical, fun and news. I just finished reading all 2308 previous posts, resulting in a couple pages of handwritten notes about radios, painting, resources, accessories, etc.
As a kid I spent hours with little plastic models, but never an r/c. The Knight Hauler will be my first. (I'd upload a picture, but all I could show you at this point would be my credit card and an empty mail box.) Kit arrives Tuesday. My purpose was originally to get lots of experience backing a trailer (a fun way to help me prepare for a commercial driver license test), but now my purpose includes fun of kit building and pride of ownership.
I have some newbie unanswered questions, if someone would care to take a couple minutes:
(1) Which is easier to understand/install/use, a gear reduction box or a slower truck puller type motor? Am I right that both would be overkill? I'm after maneuvering practice mainly.
(2) Where can I find truck puller type motors for sale? (I found gear red. boxes)
(3) How much hobby work area do I minimally need? I have two cleared desks plus storage space on the floor.
(4) Does the Multiplex Profi Car 707 pistol control work well with the MFCU and motorized leg supports? With 7 channels I'd think it would do well, but a 4 ch stick box with trim positions might actually have more available functions.
(5) With the MFCU installed, can you easily turn it off and still run the truck the same? I might want to run quiet/no-bounce for my serious backing practice, but turn it on if someone walks in the room, of course.
(6) Does the truck electrical kit have more lights than come with the MFCU? The picture seems so, in which case I'd buy both.
Oh, and ...
(7) What happened to Dabait? Are you still here? It seems we live near each other, and I miss your posts.
I've enjoyed reading about other people's beginnings and mishaps, so I feel freer to share mine, thanks for that. I'll try to post as things happen. Thanks in advance for any answers you can share.

Well, I can't answer all of your questions as I don't have a tamiya truck. But I do have an 8,000 rpm motor running on 12 volts plus a 4:1 gear reduction unite and the both of them together make the truck run slow einough to see the lug nuts on the front wheels go around at abought half throtle. I think if I had a tamiya thats the way I would go even still. As for a motor I think it Intagy that put out a 55 Turn Lathe motor its 8,000 RPM should slow that truck down to be more managalbe. But it would work even better in conjunction with the 4:1.

Mine was doing the same thing....I don't have a 4 channel yet so I have the gears locked in with the clips supplied with the kit...I put a shim in with the clip and it works great...The gear selector rod wasn't in the right right postion to lock in complety

1. I haven't tried any slower motors than stock but with the motor in first gear its very slow! I don't know why people want a slower motor than that.
3. I used about 3/4 of a rectangular kitchen table to build my truck and it was kind of tight with everything. It worked though.
5. There are 3 modes to run the truck with teh MFU. First, quiet mode...the truck will steer, shift, drive, etc, but there won't be any sound or vibration. Second mode (the switch on the truck is in the center position) you'll have everything working, lights, sound, vibration, and steering/driving. Third mode is lights only. The truck won't move, have vibration, or sound...it just has lights which can be turned on and off by the truck only. Its not controlled by the transmitter.
6. I don't know if the light kit has more lights than the MFU but if you are getting teh MFU, you don't need the light kit at all. My knight hauler has all the lights from the MFU except for the air intake lights but I modded up some led's to work anyway. I don't believe the light kit will have the lights for the air intake area either.
Don't know about ?'s 2 and 4.

I have seen some rigs that have the wheelbase extended, How do you guys go about doing that? I thought that the stock drive shafts are too short to do something like that
How is this done? Is it easy to do? How much modifying is needed ?

You will need to change the king pin to one that is a little bit bigger. The Wedico stuff just looks a little small behind the Tamiya rigs, but they still look good. If you want those trailers, prepare to pay...

All the Tamiya trailers come with support legs. They are not the motorized support legs though. They are spring loaded so when you back into it they snap up then you need to manually push them back down to unhook.

I can't believe you guys pay that much for screws!!! If I had millions I'd probably do the same thing but that just boggles my mind!!! :)
Think about it this way I do all my cars and trucks with these screws but I find it easier, quicker and stronger to work with hex screws so I see it as a good investment.

I have seen some rigs that have the wheelbase extended, How do you guys go about doing that? I thought that the stock drive shafts are too short to do something like that
How is this done? Is it easy to do? How much modifying is needed ?
BTW Mav, that looks sweet
Alfy
Alfy I was thinking in your case with the cabover the easiest way for you to stretch the truck is to buy the driveshaft and frame rails for the conventional cab trucks. You may have to add some holes for mounting the cabover but all the holes should be there for the axles and servo mounts and everything like that.

The first trailer is roughly a over 3 grand. as it has an info-red electrical system which is quite costly, then it has 2 drop axels, and all alluminum wheels.
the trailer in the middle is the one I have the price on that one is $596.15 with electrical to operate the lites, and the ramp. $476.11 for just the trailer.
the last trailer is $456.92 for just the trailer, hydrolics for the trailer and sped controle to operate the hydrolic pump $318.52 I'll give you LxWxH in a bit.

I have the motorized support legs on three of my five trailers. I don't have them on the other two, because they are not compatible with those two trailers. I like them though. People fall out in the floor when they see the whole rig in action. Its most definitely a crowd pleaser!

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, working on my 1st Tamiya 1/14 kit (Aeromax.) I'm not done yet, but I'm already looking ahead to getting a box trailer.
Does anyone know a source for getting decals for the Tamiya box trailer? I've wondered why Tamiya doesn't offer other decal kits besides the set that comes with the trailer.
I would be interested in other off-the-shelf options, or maybe someone who makes custom decals. Thanks!

You might try giving www.gardentrucking.com a try, they deal in wedico, witch is 1/16 scale, but they do offer a veriaty of "off the shelf" decals for box trailers.

I notice that websites that wedico has pointed out offers lots of parts for the King Hauler, but not that much for the Globeliner :( .. Are most of the King Hauler parts compatible with the Globeliner ? If not, Where else can one find after market parts for the Globeliner?

Now, I've read every one of the above 2334 posts, clicked on every link to check out the other info, bookmarked several sites for pics, parts, and ideas.
I fell in love with the king hauler 10 plus years ago when it was released but could never afford it. A recent Ebay excursion netted me a rarely used Knight Hauler with a flat bed for a mere $325. I have plans for a trailer that I drew up years ago and will have to modify to make scale. I'm looking forward to turning this truck into a real head turner like some of you already have.

Just information, but I tried the web site you mentioned, and couldn't find any decal sets. So I sent them an e-mail, and received a reply from someone named Ric Murphy, I believe his name was. Anyway, he says they only sell decals for the trucks, but not the trailers.

Thanks, Wedicotrucker and Rapko for your responses. This forum always treats newcomers well, I've noticed.
I opened my Knight Hauler box. I love models. Too bad this one will be over at some point. I want to get everything together first before I start. I just had my lhs send for the MFCU, motorized support legs, box trailer, telescopic antenna, ball bearings, but I'm still wondering whether I want a pistol grip radio (Multiplex Profi Car 707) or the recommended 4 channel stick. I think all I would lose getting the pistol grip would be third gear and maybe a light function, since it has only two proportional channels and 5 additional switches.
My eventual purpose after building the kit is to master maneuvering, which might transfer to actual skill in real life. So, I'm leaning toward pistol grip. I don't know how well stick control transfers to the natural feel of a wheel.
All for now. G'night.

Your set screw might not be all the way on the flat part of the shaft. Also these metal parts will get a little greasy after time, so its best to take every thing compleatly apart adn wash the metal parts in a degreaser.
Clean off any burs and rebuild every thing with loc-tite. My "degreaser" of chioce is a paint thiner. The one I use is a #10 vergine laquer paint thiner. its veary potent stuff, but dose the job better than any thing I've ever come accross.

The shows that are put on from Precision Moldels is much bigger, both in attendance and in over all size. In my back yard with 10 of us it gets too crowded to do any thing. At these shows with 30 guys there's still more room than we need. But even at that we would still take even more room if we could.

I gave $850.00 for it. But as I have so many other trailers this trailer is not included with the price of the truck.
The 2 axel jeep goes in front of the trailer where the 3 axel jeep is now. So you can change it from just the 3 axels in the rear, 2 axels up front and if you really want go with 8 axels by connecting the 2 jeeps together.

LOL, I thought the EXACT same thing when I first unpacked my MFU and truck parts but a nice person calmed me down and said something like, "just take it one step at a time" and to start with, CAREFULLY label the wires with the stickers so you know exactly what goes where. The only thing you have to be careful of is gray and green. Can't remember which one is which. Its definitely worth it to take your time and get the labels right so you don't have any hookup problems in the future.

You should use 4 on the radius arms along with 4 of the flange nut, then there should be 4 used on the lower shock mounts, then you should only need 6 locknuts on the front/steer axle since the u-bolts are going to use the flange nuts to hold them on.

On the radius arms where they attach to the axles you use 4 nylon locknuts, on the radius arms where they mount to the plate that is attached to the chassis it shows to use flange nuts.

Something must be wrong with my e-mail server as I'm not getting new post notifications from ANY of the forums I'm subscribed to. They must be getting blocked as spam or something. Hmmm...
Alfy: I went through the exact same thing when I built my Knight Hauler. I kept getting nuts and bolts in the wrong places. The way they bag the hardware is in no way logical. They should be bagged for each individual step but that would make sense so they don't do it.
I bought a bunch of small Glad brand throw away type desert containers like you would put in kids lunches. I then tagged each container with the bag numbers. Between the spares in the kit and the spares in the MFCU I have half a container of extra nuts and bolts.
Pick up a metal 6" machinists ruler for about $.99 at Lowes or Home Depot. They're graduated in inches and milimeters and will save you alot of frustration trying to make sure you have the right bolt length. I also use a digital caliper that I got at Harbor Freight for $20.00.
Hang in there. The fun is just beginning!

For those that are gojng to be at the Pheonix show this year. We are adding a new way to get up that ramp that we used last year at Pheonix and in Indy. We are building a spiral ramp to get up to the table top. It will be a while before I geet any pics up. But its being constucted out of 2 4x8 sheets of plywood, scewed together than cut out in a big cercle, with the center cut out. the rise in this ramp will be 1 inch per foot or a 6% grade. This should be a lot more challenging to get up with out driving off!!! But it also should be alot easier to get up over last years disieghn.
Joe, are you going to be able to attend this years show?

Ive read through alot of this forum and finaly decided to drop some money. I have an Aeromax on the way and am looking to buy a king hauler and a globe liner as well. My question to you is this: you have an airtronics vg600, does the left stick have a spring adjustment for the "return to center spring"? or is it strictly the ratchet spring tension? Im looking for a good 6 channel radio with a sprung left stick. do you know of any?
thank you

Pritty much any twin stick radio you buy with more than 2 chanels is going to have a ratchet stick on the the laft side of the radio. But if you buy a radio from www.gardentrucking.com they have a sping loaded laft stick pre instaled in there Airtronics VG600 radio systems. I beleave they also have the nessesary hard wear to make the laft stick spring loaded as well.

I would say that in almost all radios you can open them up and change the spring load/ratched stick. I have my radio set up so all channels is spring centered except the one I use for shifting, that one is without spring or ratches.

That truck in the picture really shows how big that ramp is! I could use one of those for my driveway!
wedicotrucker
02-05-2006, 02:22 PM
The outer ring of the ramp is 94 inches, the inner ring is 44 inches. theres a 6 foot ramp leading up to the spiral, and then another 5 feet of ramp that will leed up to the table top. The hole ramp and bridge from end to end will be 32 feet long.
After test driving on the ramp it will prove to be quite a challenge to get up and down with a loaded trailer.
For those of you that where at the Peonix show, or the Indy show last year know that that ramp to get up to the table top was way too steep for some of these trucks to get up, This ramp has a veary gradual grade so climing it wont be a problim for the truck, just a challange for the driver.
rapko
02-05-2006, 03:39 PM
I think that's a good idea to make it a challenge for the driver instead of the truck...it still amazes me when I see the real big rig drivers back up inbetween two other rigs or inbetween buildings with only a couple feet on each side!
Have you tried the larger tamiya rigs w/trailers on that ramp as well or is it only for wedico trucks?

All I own are wedico trucks, and I dont have easy accsess to running tamiya trucks. So I'll just have to go by the longest wedico truck I have accsess to witch is 72 inches long from the front bumper on the truck to the rear bumper on the trailer. That truck makes it ok but its really tight.
So far I've not seen a tamiya truck that long, so tamiya should be able to make it.
And for it being made for a spasific brand, any truck is wellcome as long as it can fit under the over pass, wich is 14 inches at its lowest piont.

I won an Aeromax off ebay earlier this week, brand new in the box.
Well, i just went off the deep end and bought a Globe liner and King hauler as well. I couldnt help myself, with the superbowl going on and while nobody was looking i got the globe liner and king hauler right at the reserve price!!! I cant wait till they get here.
Friday night it will be time to order a radio from tower, probably an Airtronics VG6000. I like my computer radios and i like the idea of shifting with a 3 position switch.
Best regards,

No lights or anything just the trucks for now. I got the Aeromax for $259 buy it now. I got the King Hauler and Globe liner for $264.99 each. I bought them all from modelstation.
I figured ive wanted them all for a long time and i should buy them up before one or all of them are discontinued.
I also bought a used Aeromax chassis a few weeks ago. Im going to use the chassis stuff from that with the globe liner and give it a little "stretch" :D

I also bought a king hauler body from Alfy that i will use to modify the King Hauler. I want to stretch that one out and make the bunk a scale 12.5 ft. it will be set up with an mfu, and bunch of stuff from garden.

I cant believe this....one of the trucks i bought, of course it had to be the globe liner, the one i want the most and was going to start on first, is supposedly out of stock from modelstation (a seller on Ebay). I think he is also must_bid but not totally sure. He refunded my money, and filed a mutual nonpaying bidder report with ebay. Which doesnt make me a bad guy or anything but he wants me to pay his listing fees. Im going to wait for the other two trucks get here, then read him the riot act unless he satisfies me with some kind of good deal on another globe liner or something.
In any case, does anybody on here know where i can get a good deal on one? Maybe somebody has a REAL nice used one for sale? Let me know.

I read your Ebay letters and it reads to me that if you agree with what he states, that Ebay will refund his listing and final charges back to him.I also don't think it will affect you in any way.
I did something like this to get the fees refunded due to a buyer buying a tractor and living in Europe somewhere and my description clearly stated i don't ship out of the US.I can't recall what reason i used for the refund, but it doesn't give you many, just a drop down page with maybe 3 or 4 reasons for a refund.
I'm no expert by far about Ebay,so take my info knowing that.I still wonder why he didn't have the truck?.Wonder if he has a Globeliner listed next week?.Good Luck and have fun building,Randy.
PS,did you get your radio yet?.I have a new VG 6000 i want to sell, new and never even out of the box.I have 2 of them and decided i don't need 2,so i'm going to sell the extra 1.

I would use the latter statment and not let him get his money back. In all honesty I would hold him to the auction and make him get a Globeliner to replace the one you won that he didn't have. It was a binding contract that he has now broken and as such you now have to find another one that could cost you more.
before you make speculations without foundation, let me tell you that i have personally spent over 2000$ on must_bid auctions and this guy is stellar. he is not that person you accused him of being. he has always been flexible with terms and responsive to mail.

Everyone talks about the vg6000 but are there any good FM futaba radios that work with the tamiya tractors? I use futaba servos and to switch to airtronics would mean that I'd have to swap out my futaba servos...that means tearing the entire truck apart to get access to the servo's unless I can just shave the "J" part of the servo plug.
mavrick0

You wouldn't have to switch the servo's Rapko, you would just need to cut off the tab on the futaba servo harness and it will work fine. But I do know I've heard of guys using Futaba air radios that have been converted to ground freq. as well.

I'm loving taking my time getting set up. That's as much fun as building. I have all the little dessert cups labeled, every accessory purchased, new tools lined up, I've read the instructions until I feel I've built it already in my mind... Getting everything took a couple weeks. I finally tore into the packages.
I'll tell a story on myself. Being new to this, I was looking for a bag labeled BC or BD or BE, for example. I guess the first letter is always a B, which probably stands for "Bag". I feel dumb.
My other dumb thing was to put the MFCU speaker into its box before realizing I needed to use the box that came with the truck kit. Now that's not very intuitive, but oh well, I'm still having fun.

you can do what ive done on a couple XC chassis and clod axles. I put some pam cooking spray on the gears, then put in hot glue. Let it all dry and walla!! its locked up. I use pam just incase i want to put it back to an open style. The hot glue is alot easier to remove that way.

I agree with you Alfy its definitely expensive to complete a big rig. There's only one truck that I put more money into, my first clod. I had over a grand into that truck in mod's. When I finish my knight hauler with a trailer, motorized legs, bearings, lights, etc...I'll have about the same into it. I bought my MFU online and got some front rims included. Probably bought from stellamodels didn't ya? ;) The MFU is expensive but this truck is so much better with the MFU than without. If I didn't have the MFU I probably would of sold or traded this truck by now. Someone else mentioned it before, I got a kick out of reading it as well but, I've got mine sitting next to me and idling... :D

Yes these trucks can indeed get pricy but if I where to look at all the money I had tied up in my race car's all 150 of them, plus the 50 kits that where never built, and the parts to build another 50, the AMB auto lap counting system, the cumputer to run the AMB softwear, the printer, plus the portable race track, and portable driver stand. These trucks are soooooo much more of a bargen, expecialy when you figure in that I was spending 50 to 60 hours per week to get my cars ready for a weekends worth of racing just to run each car for 12 minutes of racing. Where as these trucks can run over an hour and have no broken parts and no bench time after a run. I should have gotten into this end of the hobby sooner. :)
Then Just for fun I added what every thing would cost new,. It would have cost me $115,000 dollers to replace all my cars and parts. so $15,000 dollers for 4 traucks dose not seem so bad.:p

oh, by the way, the tanks are not on the same tree. "m" parts are on a tree by themselves.

I though I'd show off my latest new toy. This is the wedico truck I bought a few weeks ago, I finaly got it this past friday. Its in the proses of being put back together after taking it apart and putting it back together again. It has full fenders, as well as half fenders to go along with the drop axal that's off the truck at the moment. The half fenders, and drop axal will not be put back on the truck any time soon. the truck in the back round is my dads west coast hauler cab over freightliner

Nice rides!! I like the wedico trucks but a little to rich for my blood.
on another note, anybody know where i can find a smaller wheel and tire combo like the ones alot of people use on drop deck trailers? I really want some for a project im going to attempt.

Here's some small tires and wheels. These are what I have on my drop deck trailer. There maybe an inch and a half tall.
Hope this helps.

what you don't see are the set of wheels and axals that do not have bearing's, there a little cheaper.

Hi Guys I am new to this thread, but here is a pic of my truck. Just finished about a month ago, but still putting fine detail into it. My family owns a fuel and propane busness in Canada, so i made and exeact model of one of our trucks. I took of the side skirts and added king hauler tanks and steps. Cut the side skirts and made a small attachment to the front fender. Can see in pic. I spread the trailers rear axles using wedico leaf srpings so it looks like our trailer. I also have a tank trailer all painted up like the truck and both have full electric kits in them. Not sure if pic will load. Let me know what you think.

Go to tamiyausa.com and check the mercedes-benz truck rear fenders kit # 56305 you can get an exploded view of the truck .if you like them go to www.valavala.com and order part#0115278 they are cheaper than tamiya

Why not look at the full fenders that come with the Tamiya Box trailer, Part #9005407. Because the rear tandems on the trailer are the same distance apart as the axles it should fit the way you want.
