Hey, new guy here (sort of) looking for the ford aeromax, tanker trailer, multi-function control unit, and the electric trailer legs, which I have found on e-bay, but having a tuff time getting in touch with the seller/store .. looks like you can save $150-200 over regular retail .. but is it worth the extra hassel ? ? any Ideas ? just spent a day or so going over every page ... awesome rigs ! !
Whats the sellers name? If its modelstation, theyre great!! Just dont be suprised if he "runs out of stock" once in a while. He rufunded my money and everything was ok though.

I want to get a trailer the lights and the motorized legs
SO DO I!!!!! :) Funds just aren't available to get one yet. I will have one soon but I also don't know what one to get now. At first, I was set on getting the flatbed mainly because of the cost but I also like how it comes with real wood. I'd probably stain the wood or try and replace the wood with an exotic looking wood if possible. All I know is I really want a trailer. I wish Tamiya would come out with some new trailer designs. The current 4 are good trailers but there isn't enough selection! We could use a few more designs specifically made for the tamiya rigs.
I'm also working on a body for my knight hauler. Currently I have the chrome edition but I'm right in the middle of painting up a body, spoiler, and a few smaller parts so I can convert my rig to the regular version. All I need is some nice weather. I'll have before and after shots and anyone who is interested in the chrome parts feel free to email me if interested. The way the weather has been lately, I doubt it'll be anytime soon. :(

Hey guys. I keep looking at my Knight Hauler on top of the entertainment center. It sure looks pretty but I don't do anything with it. It really needs to go. I have to pay taxes too so the proceeds will come in handy. I know I'll have to lose money but I don't want to give it away either. I already sold the Globe Liner to Alfy at a loss.
This truck is 100% turn key. About the only upgrade it doesn't have is the alloy wheels. It has the MFCU, the low RPM high torque motor from Ric at Garden Trucking, full teflon sealed bearings in the tractor and trailer, 6 oil filled shocks on the tractor and a pair for the trailer (needs two more to be complete), telescoping antenna, powered trailer legs on the Tamiya flatbed trailer. It also has the trailer light kit installed. It comes with a new Futaba SkySport 6 radio system on ground frequency channel 70 w/nicads and charger. I have the shift/steer gates on both TX gimbals. Two 2400mah nicad packs and a Tekin BC210 charger round out the package. I spared NO expense in building this truck and it shows in the end product. I enjoyed the build. I get bored running it though. (I'm a flyer) The only outside time it has had was about 30 minutes at Wedicotruckers backyard track (that was fun!) the rest of the run time was in the house. Maybe another 30 minutes total. It has no dings, scratches or bruises of any kind. The transmission shifts smooth and has no noises. This is what you would build if had more money than brains (like I had at the time ;) ) Like I said this is 100% turn key. You'll take it out of the box, plug in a battery and drive.
You can see a pic of it at post 2206. If you are a SERIOUS buyer then P.M me for more info. I have absolutely NO interest in selling any parts from the truck so don't ask. If you don't have the cash then PLEASE don't drive me nuts asking for pictures/info etc. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just hate selling things online and having people bug the crap out of me when they have no intentions of buying.
I've got about $1300.00 invested in this thing. I'm looking to get $900.00 (non PayPal) for it equipped as I stated. PLUS shipping. (All spare parts and servos related to the truck are included as well). If you are interested AND have the money in the bank then P.M me for more pictures or information that would make you comfortable buying this outstanding scale project.
I thought I'd post it here in the truck forum first. I'd rather give you guys first shot at it.

Hey Nate. You're a rich dude. I know where you work! ;)
I hate to get rid of it. The fun for me was building it. I just can't believe how much I spent on it!
I REALLY wanted to build the Globe Liner kit I had but Alfy bought it out from under me. :)

No matter where you go, the MFU is going to be expensive, lol. I bought mine off ebay from stellamodels. It was cheaper than buying from tower hobbies, even with the use of an AD number. Last month would of been a good time to buy from tower, I believe it was save $30 off a $200 order.

No strobes, but its not hard to put them on. The reson I'm thinking abought selling it is just to make room for the tri axel truck I'm thinking abought buying. Also the only time I realy ever use it is at the 2 majore truck shows.
Or rather the only 2 trucks shows.
As far as working for a hobby shop goes........I used to be a hobby shop, and race track. :) I've had at one piont 150 plus cars plus enough parts to rebuild each one at least once. Also had a portable race track, with an AMB auto lap counting system. So now that I'm not spending all my money on that I'm actualy saving money buying these trucks. :)

One thing about the wedico trucks...do they have all the functioning lights and sounds like the tamiya rigs? I know they don't use the MFU but what kind of options do those trucks have? For the price of them, I would think they would have to have something similar.

They do have most of the same features that tamiya offers. They do have a a sound unite that fits inside one of the fuel tanks, and there esc is also inside a fuel tank. They do this to add room inside the cab and sleeper. But the big differance is that wedico offers trailer functions into there electrical system, so that every thing is on 1 plug. This one plug will run every thing on the trailer. This includes the use of servo's, and/or an esc to operate the hydraulic pump on there dump trucks. They also offer an insert tank that fits inside there tanker trailer to suck up, poor out and haul liquids.

The flash is a little over powering but if you look closely at the top of the truck you can see them.
These strobe lites are 12 volts. There not true strobe lites, but rather chasers. There's 3 led's in each strobe lite housing and they chase eachother, I can increase or decrease the speed in which they chase by ajusting a diode on the suplied cercut board.

What I did is get a piece of 3/4" aluminum channel 6' lenght from Home Depot also get a piece of 3/4" plywood ,slip the channel over the plywood.Use a 71/4"carpenters skill saw with a fence ,set the fence the with of the tamiya frame and cut it,you can make a frame as long as you want. also (if you don't have a drill press get a cheap one on Ebay) Use your frame as a pattern drill the holes from ends to the middle . You will have to file the step and tank brackets as the Home Depot materal is alittle wider .You also need 3mm drill and tap which you can get from Tower hobby Take your time and it will come out great .My frame is 29" 4 axel ,check the thread ,I saved the KH frame and I am going to use it on a Globliner for a 4" stretch Good Luck George

I just ordered the Tamiya flatbed trailer, light kit, bearing set for trailer, motorized leg kit, and the telescopic antenna for the rig. We also ordered my buddy the MFU for his Knight Hauler. We ordered from Stella Hobbies in Hong Kong. The order ended up being $60 cheaper from there and that included $115 Speed Post shipping from HK. Can we say Tower is overpriced

I think tower hobbies has some square, round and also HOLLOW aluminum tubing that would make a great driveshaft, just in case you didn't know. I don't know if you could take the stock driveshaft and cut the ends off and solder or somehow attach it to the long shaft or something. That hollow tubing would be pretty light too.

If you want to keep the realism of the truck I would buy some Traxxas stampede drive shafts, make a few carrier bearing supports and run the driveshaft that way just like the real trucks.

If you are looking to make a tri axle, it is possible. I have made a triaxle for my trailer using to two rear trialer suspensions. All you have do is cut the leaf spring end in half so the two spring wil sit in the axle mount. If you know what I mean. Look at the pic. I have seen people to this with three drive axle and it works fine.

If you have more then 4 channels on your remote you would want to hook it up to the RX, but if you only had 4 channels then you'd need to set up a relay system that when say the fog lights from the MFU are turned on then the strobes would come on but the bar itself would have to powered directly off the battery or something because I would almost say the draw of the current could cause issues with the MFU.

You would have to tie into the battery connector with a second harness.

The way I have mine set up might be a little confusing to explane.
But I have my stobe lites hooked up to a dual e-switch. This takes up one chanel on my reciever. And with this little unite I can turn my stobe lites on or off by moving my right stick down to turn the strobe lites "ON" on my truck, or up to turn them "ON" on my drop deck trailer.
Down one time turn the lites on and they will stay on untill I move my stick down again. And the system I use runs on 12 volts, so I had to conect the power leads up to the battery lead.
Then on the same stick when I push the stick up it turns on the strobe lites on my drop deck trailer, and they too stay on untill I move the stick up again to turn them off.
The electrical system I have on my trailer has a 12 volt power suply all ready avalible to operate the strobe lites or any thing els that requires 12 volts.
On the truck, the reson I taped into the battery leads was the main circut boad was all ready a little cramped.

Cody, there will be a frequancy board, and a frequany checker. When you go to turn oon yourradio you will go over to the frequancy board and flip over the corrasponding number that matches your frequancy number. You can also check it against the frequancy checker to double check and make sure that no one is on your chanel.
We all at one time or another will forget to flip over the number on the board so its nice to be able to look at the frequancy checker to make sure we are clear.

Well, I'm VERY close to being done with my trucks new look. Here's a before shot... I know, why would a chrome truck be the before shot??? Well, I'm going after a more realistic look now. All I have to do now is wait a day or two before I can start assembling. How much time should you guys typically wait before starting to handle a freshly painted body and installing parts? Two days minimum? More? Anyway, here's a couple before shots...

I use airtronics radio's in all my trucks. All my 6 chanel and above do have a 3 position togle switch, or a "3 way switch" as you call it.
The only Airtronics radio I have that does not have a switch is my VG 400 witch is only a 4 chanel radio. It came with my red peterbilt. I left the 4 chanel radio in the pete just long enough to make sure evry thing worked, then pulled it out, and promptly installed the Artronics VG 6000 that I had sitting on my parts shelf waiting to be installed into a worthy truck.

I've seen a couple king haulers with the MFU and they don't have the cover on it. I don't know if you could modify it and make a cover fit. It goes right under the driver side area just like the knight hauler. Even though the buttons are exposed, it still looked nice.

I have moved the servos back behind the motor and use a bellcrank to steer, the electric motor and trans are moved under the sleeper. I wanted to use a 4:1 gear but I don't have the room so I am thinking about a 3:1 between the motor and trans.

OK Guys,
I'm calling all you expert rig builders out.....I'm starting to put together my MFU unit, But I have one question....How in the world do you know what each wire is? Alfy,
Although the manual sucks pretty bad you really have to use it for the MFCU. The sheet of wire labels is absolutely necessary to setting everything up right. Even then it can be a hair puller. There are a BUNCH of wires to route and hook up. Take your time. It can be a bit daunting. ;)
You could save a bunch of time and buy my Knight Hauler package too. The MFCU is all set up and ready to go. ;) :)

I think I overreacted a bit. I just noticed that the sticker sheet has the colors labled on them to put on the proper wire when wiring...

That's the right thing to do first Alfy! Label up everything VERY CAREFULLY! I was overwhelmed when I first opened up the box. The only two colors I messed up were the "gre" and "gra" I believe. I'm glad I incorporated the MFU while I was building because if you want to install it after you built your truck and hide the wires, you'll have some tearing down to do. :)

The instructions that come with the mfu, have a page on how to install into the aeromax .. It looks like the control panel, goes in the bottom of the left side fuel tank .. and the speaker gets mounted on the roof of the "sleeper"

I the 4 channel radio that tamiya recommends, the attack radio. A lot of guys on here have the VG6000.
I just used tamiya spray cans and lots of clear coat. I spent about $50 on all the paint easy. I had the body all complete, I actually put on a coat of clear and then I noticed there were a bunch of runs on the back section of the sleeper where all the holes are.
I sanded it down and had a different color blue, it was much darker than these pics. I wasn't happy with that and ordered some more paint. Finally I got it complete. It was a big hassle, lol. Agreed! Painting the body sucks! Just the basic yellow of my Knight Hauler was a major pain in the ass! I must have used a quart of brake cleaner to strip the paint jobs off that I wasn't happy with. Had I known a local painter (I could count on) I would have had it done professionally. It would have been worth any price!

Awesome photo boxerdog, those wheels look sweeeet. I am still in a bit of a tissy about doing the painting, my problem is that I get too impatient and end up trying to do it all in one coat, of course we all know that don't work. It's not like a regular polycarb body, paint from the inside, no matter waht looks sweet on the outside :D
My next door neighbour is a spray painter, he want's me to setup digital TV for him, I see a deal coming.....
Have any of you guys heard of a B DOUBLE? Maybe you call them something different, it is basically a slightly shorter semi trailer that has the triple bogie wheels but that sticks back further than the trailer, then it has a hitch on it like the tractor truck, then a regular sized semi trailer hooks onto that, we in Aus call it a B DOUBLE, I would like to try and build one, anyone tried that?

Just to let you know the wheels that Stella sells are the GPM wheels. I do agree they are much nicer then the the Tamiya and the fact that you get all the aluminum wheels not just the outers. There's also some nice 3racing wheels being sold as well and I'm pretty sure they are GPM as well but they are round holes not the Kenworth style holes of the wheels pictured above.

Hi!
This is a long thread but had to post it...
I have been reading this thread for a while now. Saw some guys here doing an amazing job helping newbie’s and sharing information. That was the key to move me toward to get my first Electric RC: a Tractor Trailer.
After years on nitro cars I could never think on something so fun to build and drive! Amazing guys. And all you wrote here before was very helpful to choose what to buy and how to assemble.
I got a Tamiya Knight Hauler Metallic Special, MFU, Truck and Semi-Trailer Light Kit, Motorized Support Legs, Telescopic Antenna, Futaba 4 Channel Surface Radio, ESC, Engine Capacitors and a Pole Trailer (cat # 56310)
Well, as some of you noticed reading my list some mistaken were made...
First: The Metallic Special is great looking truck but - as someone said here before - not the best truck to play. It is hard to keep the metallic parts clean from fingerprints. I used car wax but no much help. As it is hard to keep curious people away from these trucks, any tip to keep it clean is welcome...
Second: The pole trailer (cat #56310) was not the best choice to use with Motorized Support Legs as the legs can not be assembled in it! Also, I can not use the other functions of Motorized Support Legs kit, as the trailer connects to the truck also through a pin fixed on rear part of chassis and needs to be manually attached or removed... :(
Third: Never paid to much attention to MFU specs and bought a Truck Light Set, ESC and Capacitors without need as MFU comes with all that. :o
Besides that I am really enjoying all on that truck! Amazing on all details! Already ordered another truck (no, nothing all metallic) and a Semi-Trailer Truck (cat # 56302) as this way I can use the Truck Light Kit, Motorized Support Legs and ESC that I already bought! lol
All in all, thanks to all you guys, that make this thread one of the best sources of information to anyone that likes RC Tractor Trucks! :)

I use windex and a soft cloth which takes all the fingerprints away nicely and doesn't damage the finish. Tamiya does sell 3 transparent colors for use on chrome. That would help prevent getting scratches on the chrome.

Thats the bad thing with having motorized legs and wanting to use the lites as well. You can't disconnect the truck and the trailer hands free.
Once the truck show in Pheonix is over I will be installing an infrared electrical system for my wedico peterbilt. I will also be getting a scale 53 foot flat bed trailer with spread axel, and ratchet straps as soon as they are avalibe.
The infrared system will give me the lites and trailer breaks as well as motorized suport legs for connecting and disconecting hands free. This system will also shut off the trailer lites as soon as I drive away.

Go here and read the first paragraph. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=56316
Also, you'll still be able to see through the paint because its transparent but the chrome will be a shade of blue or whatever color you used. I think it would look cool as long as its applied right. I'd be very careful not to over spray and create runs because its not like you can sand it! :)

There is not a URL that I'm aware of. You can get info on it by e-mailing wedicotrucks@yahoo.com or by going to www.gardentrucking.com
This system runs on 12 volts. You will also need a battery to operate the trailer.
The infrared is produced by wedico catolog number 796 and cost $383.18
The infrared receiver is wedico catolog number 979 and cost $224.58
This system does not include sound or esc.
A wedico sound unite will set you back $233.46 and another $164.31 for wedico's esc.
For a grand total of $1005.53.
Now you may not need to use wedico's esc or there sound unite, so you can save some money there.
But if you're looking for that next step, for MY money this is going to be IT.
I will also be putting this system in only one of my trucks, the Pete.

I'm aware that the trailer lights need to be manually plugged in but if that's the only thing required to have lights then I can live with it. I wouldn't plug them in during the day anyway when I run my truck. As long as I can attach and detach the trailer using the motorized support legs then its not too big of a deal...besides, I've never seen any real big rigs detach all their wiring from the trailer without having to get out of their trucks. ;)

That is good news, It looks like from your photos that the seats can remain in place with the MFU fitted, I was hoping they would, looking at the instructions on the Knight Hauler the seats come out to make room, a little dissapointing. Only 2 more days till I get my Aeromax and MFU, I still need to get a radio though, I am going to have a look at a few more Hobby shops while I am in Hong Kong, hopefully I can get the Futaba cheaper, can you explain how the left stick works with the gate? Does each section mean a different gear? e.g. left forward and reverse is 1st gear, middle is F & R in second and right side is F & R in 3rd? Is that how it works?
Thanks to all you guys, you have made my decision to buy a truck soo much easier.

Hey guys, I seem to have a little glitch with my Knight Hauler. I'm running it with the MFCU and a Hitec Laser4. I recently purchased a new battery pack and quick charged it for about 25 minutes.
Within a minute of running, the engine stop sound occurs and the truck shuts down, then starts again immediately after. It does this 4 or 5 times, then will run normally for the next half hour or so, or till the battery drains.
According to the MFCU manual, the only times this should occur is with a weak battery or a weak signal. I'm pretty sure it's not the battery (unless it's defective). I'm running the truck about two feet away, in my living room. Would the tv interfere with the signal? It does it with the tv off as well. I can't try it outside as we still have two feet of snow on the ground.

Hey guys, I seem to have a little glitch with my Knight Hauler. I'm running it with the MFCU and a Hitec Laser4.
Hi VolvoRich,
Did it do it before you bought a new batt pack? If not the my entire speel below is totaly irrelevant :p
This may be totaly unrelated but I have had problems with Hitec and ESC's before. I don't know what setup steps there are for the MFU so I will just describe my experience and leave it up to you if you think it may apply to your problem.
I had a Hitec 2ch radio with an LRP F1 Pro reverse digital speed control, the F1 Pro has a setup button that you press during the setup process after each step, like full throttle, full brake etc. That worked fine, no problems. :)
I then used that same Hitec 2ch with an LRP A.I. speed control, there is no setup button, it is supposed to automatically work, but it didn't :( , I had very similar problems to what you are explaining below, but obviously no sounds just that the car would go fine for a min, then stop, start, stop then stutter, go stupid for a while then work ok again, the steering servo was stable and not glitching, if it was radio interference I would have expected atleast some indication on the steering servo that some radio interference was causing a problem.
I thought it was a faulty speed control so I took it back and got another one, when I got it home it did exactly the same thing  , so I tried it with a Futaba radio and have never had a problem since! :D
I don't know if maybe the Hitec radio has I different signal pattern or maybe my Hitec has a glitch but the automatic setup of the speed control sure didn't like the Hitec, I haven't been game to buy another Hitec radio since, so I don't know, but it works with all the speed controls I have with the manual setup button but not with A.I. speed controls. I only stick with Futaba now, I guess that is a little unfair on Hitec as it may be my radio, I just don't want to take a chance that it's not.
Back to your MFU, does the built in speed control have a setup process or is it just plug and play? Also, I have read that Tamiya says that if you use and motor other than the stock silver can you can also have a malfunctioning MFU.
VolvoRich
03-29-2006, 09:34 AM
Thanks for the reply Pagedm. Yeah, I had the same problem with previous batteries as well, just not as obvious as this new one. The odd thing is, I have a Tamiya 1:16 rc tank full-option kit (very similar to the MFCU kit) and it runs flawlessly, no glitching or anything. I'm using the same radio with the tank.
You may have hit the nail on the head regarding radio compatibility. I know the manual recommends using a Futaba (along with Tamiya of course), does'nt say anything about Hitec though.
I'm still running with the stock motor, but I sure wanted to try one of those high torque/lower rpm truck puller motors. Not so sure if I should now. Guess one of these days I'll pony up and price out a Futaba and see what happens...

There is no such thing as getting carried away :D
Seriously, I don't even open the parts bags until i have been through the assembly manual with a highlighter and marked how many bearings I need to replace every metal and plastic bush that can be. I never assemble a kit with the bushes, I still don't know why they still supply them with bushes, I mean who here wouldn't pay the extra $20 - $30 on top to have a full set of bearings included?
I only did it once, with my very first kit about 15 years ago, it ended up wearing out all the shafts so they had so much slop that it was undrivable, the cost to replace all those shafts would have been easily triple the cost of a set of bearings.
Saying that, I guess I have bought kits then while spending a few weeks painting the body and scrounging up the extra greens for the bearings. :p
On my trip to Hong Kong I was only planning to buy the truck, then I saw how cheap the MFU is, then I saw how cheap the Futaba radio is....ummm, I better stop asking for prices at this point...
I can get all 3, Aeromax, MFU & 4ch Radio for not a whole lot more than what the Truck kit alone would cost me back home! :D
Only 1 more day till I get to Hong Kong and my all time favourite hobby shop................ :D

I have 2 x 45T Integy motors in my Clod crawler, same basic thing as the Truck Puller motor but I thing the Truck Puller has more turns.
I thought about using reduction units with the stock motors but decided to go with the high turn motors instead, I think the run tim would be much longer with higher turns rather than just gear reduction.
My crawler runs about 3 times longer and has big time torque, could pull a dead horse along with it :D of course top speed is greatly reduced, but hey I have read so far that the trucks go waayyy too fast in 3rd anyway.
When I get my Aeromax built I plan to "borrow" one of my integy's from the crawler and see how it goes in it.

VolvoRich & pagedm = I have a Knight Hauler with MFU, use 3000mAh NiMh cells and a Futaba Radio. I had same problem so maybe the Hitech radio is not the origin of the problem. The MFU shut down when the battery is low. But even while fully charged I had this issue after 4-6minutes running. To solve that I cycled the bateries (bought them NIB when got the truck), checked all MFU connections, now I use the volume of MFU on half and never had the problem again. Still not sure about what was the real cause but the problem never happened again.

Anyone own the gear reduction kits or truck puller motors from Wild Willy's? If so, are they worth the purchase?
I have the aluminum 4:1 avvalible from Wild Willy's on all my trucks. I would not run a truck with out them.

VolvoRich = thanks. The pole is nice. Chains works great holding tubes in place even while truck is moving. You only can not use motorized support legs and have to attach/detach it manually from tractor.
ferrarokid = very nice job. Wanna paint a Knigh Hauller now? :D

Please apologize if this question sound silly but I am a newbie to Tractor Truck's world. What is the improvement you foresee with these reductions in your truck? More load on your trailer? Does the original suspension holds more load?

The reduction has no effect on the suspention. But you can pull heavier loads, by means of increasing torque. You will also get longer run times.

The MFU 5th wheel has a device in it that provides more power (speed really, not torque) to be generated by the motor when a trailer is hooked up. It also makes a special clunking sound when hooking/spotting the trailer.
I had (and installed) the motorized legs kit as well, but ended up going back to the MFU 5th wheel and stock support legs. The two kits (5th wheels) are not compatible or interchangeable.
As for the speed indicator lights, you can use them just as regular marker lights, there's a switch on the MFU control box for this.

You'll need at least a four channel radio for the MFU. You can power it up without a radio, and try your lights by using the switches on the control unit box.

mavrick0
04-01-2006, 05:23 PM
One end does slide in and out for movement and make sure you get the Jugg drive shafts. Because there is a slight difference between Jugg and TXT. Jugg drive shafts have a 5mm hole which is what the input and output shafts are on the semi's. The TXT shafts which look the same are are 6mm holes because of the upgrades Tamiya did to the TXT driveline so you'll end up having slope and a driveshaft that might not be aligned properly.

I don't know when Tamiya first introduced the Big rigs but can anyone tell me if there was ever a chrome Globe Liner?? I'm just guessing but the king hauler and globe liner LOOK like they were made around the same time. If that's true, why would Tamiya only make the king hauler into a chrome version and not the globe liner?
mavrick0
04-01-2006, 08:48 PM
I don't think they ever made the Globeliner into a metalic edition. Only one's I ever saw was the King Hauler, Aeromax and Knight Hauler and that's all that is showing on Tamiya's website too. I would assume they made the King Hauler because it was the first semi, the Aeromax because it was a licensed truck from Ford and the Knight Hauler because it was the first designed for the MFU.

If you manully flip the switch it should skip
mavrick0

They are designed to skip so you don't strip the teeth off of the gears or the legs, that's what the springs are for that were installed in the legs.

Cody, that guy has a TON of positives...no offense but its a no brainer that he's a good seller. ;) He has only 4 negatives and the one that I looked at was given because of a simple mistake which the seller mentioned sending out the right version. I wouldn't worry at all with him. He seems to have great deals too.

Take a good look at the pole trailer before you get it ,it doesn't pull from the 5th wheel,..it has a hitch on the back of the truck also it doesn't look great off the truck.I have one and am going to change it,I am going to add a 3rd axel and change the front to tow from the 5th wheel .

Hi guys,
I finally got my Aeromax and MFU, I learned one thing though, I should not go into Hong Kong hobby shops with a credit card...... :o
He had a heap of Tamiya tools on sale and the oil dampers were mega cheap so I got a full set of those plus all the bearings.
He didn't have the Futaba 4ch in stock  otherwise I would have that too.
All up What you see in the photo got for about AU$50 more than just the Aeromax alone would have cost me here in Aus :D

You have to have a 4 channel radio to get more sounds out of the MFU as your servos plug directly into the MFU and the leads off the MFU goes into your receiver. The MFU uses the signals that come from the receiver to activate the individual sounds. Kind of a bummer, but I'd highly recommend a 4 channel radio to fully enjoy it.

Hi Guys, I just picked up my 4VWD Futaba Radio, mine has the ratchet on the right stick up/down, is that how it is supposed to be?
I realise that the throttle is on the left so it is no big deal, I think mine may be an earlier release as it also doesn't have the gate for the left stick.
Anyway, I will order the parts to change the ratched to the auto centering stick.

You may be able to drive the truck but you won't have all the sounds and funtions that a 4 channel would give you. For instance, you won't be able to turn the truck on and off from the radio, you wouldn't be able to operate "idling mode" or the function to use motorized support legs, you'd also have to lock the tranny in one gear. Maybe a few other functions as well. A futaba 4 channel attack radio is definitely a worth while upgrade.

I'm aware that the trailer lights need to be manually plugged in but if that's the only thing required to have lights then I can live with it. I wouldn't plug them in during the day anyway when I run my truck. As long as I can attach and detach the trailer using the motorized support legs then its not too big of a deal...besides, I've never seen any real big rigs detach all their wiring from the trailer without having to get out of their trucks. ;)
I know for sure that VBG (its a swedish company) makes hitchplates and trailer couplings (like the one for the pole trailer, dont know what they are called in english) that has all the electrics and air built into them so one doesnt need to get out of the cab to attach or detach the trailer. There is talk about getting one for test at my job, time will tell if it works. I found a English link about it here: http://www.vbg.se/int/news/press/2005/vbg_presenterar_nytt_revo/index.xml

My plan it to build a 5th wheel mount like the front frame of a flatbed trailer
out of angle aluminum ,then make a mount for the tetescope tubes also mount the legs on it .On the top I use aluminum diamond plate for a deck. On the rear I am going to make a new longer frame and add a 3rd axel. You can get the aluminum angle 1"x1" at Home Depot I will keep you posted as it goes

All depends on which options are important to you. If you install the MFU with the MFU 5th wheel, you can't use the motorized legs. You WILL have the extra speed effect (with the trailer connected) and the hook/unhook sound effect.
If you use the MFU with the motorized legs kit (with the 5th wheel from the mot leg kit) you will not have the above features of the MFU 5th wheel. Of course you will have fully functional motorized landing gear.
If you intent to install the trailer light kit, it may not make much sense to install the motorized legs since you have to bend down to plug and unplug the light cable anyway. That's what I found anyway.
