I've been in this hobby for over 20 years and found that the use of a capaciter on the motor is not nessesary.

All depends on which options are important to you. If you install the MFU with the MFU 5th wheel, you can't use the motorized legs. You WILL have the extra speed effect (with the trailer connected) and the hook/unhook sound effect.

If you use the MFU with the motorized legs kit (with the 5th wheel from the mot leg kit) you will not have the above features of the MFU 5th wheel. Of course you will have fully functional motorized landing gear.

If you intent to install the trailer light kit, it may not make much sense to install the motorized legs since you have to bend down to plug and unplug the light cable anyway. That's what I found anyway.

This actually makes no sense simply because I'm running my Knight hauler with the MFU and motorized legs. There is no need to replace the 5th wheel just add the extra parts to allow it to work with the motorized legs.

I agree with maverick. I am using the 5th wheel that came with the MFU, as well as the motorized support legs. It all works together.

I just installed a MFU,trailer legs and light kit...everything works great...much better then I expected....Best RC toy I had yet.

How would I go about hooking up 2 batteries for longer run time...and is there someplace under the cab where I can put the speaker...was thinking of pointing it out the grill.....I want to put the seats and dash in it...

Very well explained. I've made my mind. Thanks for enlighten it to me! :)

Boxerdog = tks for the explanation. Will try to make my own changes based on your tips. Might arise some questions by the time that the changes are made to the trailler. Your truck and 5th whell are going great. Pls keep us posted.

Guys = a quick question. A friend asked me that if he buys one of these trucks without the MFU (therefore, use a ESC) does he has to weld a capacitor on tamyia's motor (or anywere else)? As I am newbie to electric RC I am not the best person to help him on that...

I re-read my booklet last night, and yes you can run the MFU 5th wheel with the motorized legs kit and receive the full effects of the MFU and motorized legs, as other posters mentioned. Apologies for the unintentional misinformation on my part. :o I wasn't too keen on the motorized legs myself, and removed them after limited use, so I wasn't exactly motivated to try setting it up with the MFU 5th wheel.

No problem, everybody makes mistakes sometimes. If someone says doesn't one of two: lies or is sitting on right side of the Lord. :) my 02 cents...

Back to 5th wheel I have to confess that I can not make it work through my radio. Have to activate it on trailer's switch. Also I can not turn lights (headlights, roof lights etc) from my radio, only manually on truck's MFU. Have I misunderstood the manual or is it possible to activate all them through your radio? If it is possible what should I do then? Tks in advance for any help on that. :o

You might have to adjust your 3rd channel dead band trimmer. When you try to switch on the lights or 4 way flashers (using the radio), does the horn sound when you slide the trims? There's a page in the MFU manual (I don't have it in front of me, so I'm going from memory) that shows how to do this.

Also, ALL the other trims MUST be in their neutral positions for it to work. BOL.

I WISH I COULD COME!! There is no way for me to though, I'm way up in NY and there are other issues besides distance that would prevent me from attending.

Blaster, what radio do you use? I use the latest version of the Futaba Attack radio and all the functions work for me. On the right stick, I have a trim in the vertical and horizontal positions. In order for me to turn on the lights, I have to place the VERTICAL TRIM all the way to the bottom and then push the stick down all the way and let it center itself...That turns on the roof lights and one set of smaller headlights on my knight hauler. If I repeat that again, the main headlights come on as well. The third time I do that the fog lights come on, that makes all my front headlights on at one time. One final movement of the stick and it turns everything off. Before I start to drive the truck, I'll move the vertical trim level back to center. Like someone else said, look at the MFU manual. I remember the manual said to turn a knob or screw on the MFU all the way to the left position and each time you check the signals and sounds, you'll slowly turn that screw to the right until all the functions work correctly.

I am using Futaba Skysports. After read your message and volvorich's message I started to read once again my MFU manual and the Futaba's radio manual. And found what's wrong. On my Futaba Skysports the throttle/brake stick is the same that turns the truck: the right stick. The horn/gear shift stick is the left one. These functions are on different sticks than Futaba Attack you use and that Tamiya uses as example on MFU manual. Therefore I believe that to use MFU remote functions I 'll have to use both sticks instead of just one - have not tried it yet. Will do that today and keep you posted. Thanks guys!

There's one other thing I just remembered. When I followed the MFU's instructions on how to hook up the wires to my receiver, my steering and throttle were on the same side! It was not right! I just played with the hookups until I could get throttle and shifting on the left stick (throttle pushing verticle, shifting horozontal) and also messed with the steering hookups so that my steering and horn were on the right stick, steering obviously is executed horizontally and the horn is vertical. I don't think it makes a difference what radio it is but how the connections are made.

Last thing that comes to mind, Do you have the 5th wheel wire connected as well? I read a few posts back that someone had trouble with their setup UNTIL they hooked up that wire...for whatever reason it worked even though they didn't run a trailer yet. I hope this helps out a bit more.

Thanks for the tip. I've tried to use both (left and right) sticks to activate remotely some functions but it doesn't work. Will follow your steps and try to arrange the connections on my MFU to have the left and right sticks working as shown on manual. Even if to achieve it I have to make some wiring connections diferently than what's listed on MFU's manual. Considering the servo's connections listed on your manual, how you managed to have your own servos connected to make them work?

My 5th wheel wire (black/green) is connected to MFU.

Its been a little while since I had looked at the wires but don't the wires from the servo's plug into the MFU itself and then you have to take the MFU wires and plug them into the receiver? I think that's how it works. If that be the case, I plugged in the servo wires into the MFU going by the manual. It was the wires that I plugged into the receiver that I rearranged.

I don't run a trailer YET but will be soon. I have my black/green plugged into the right spot too but there is a servo looking wire that should also be plugged in even if you don't have a trailer yet. Someone here didn't have that wire plugged in because they didn't have a trailer yet and that caused problems until they plugged it in, lol...I hope I'm not confusing you. I'm starting to confuse myself ;)

Thought I'd toss up some pics of my Knight Hauler with my 53 foot trailer. I cut the middle section of the stock trailer out (just behind the legs, and just in front of the tandems).

I then had a machine shop cut and bend some middle pieces (aluminum) which I then mounted to the front and back ends. Drilled some holes, used some spare aluminum scraps as strength braces, and bolted her together. It's very strong, doesn't bow or flex in the middle at all.

The trailer measures just under 46 inches long. Though you can't really tell in the pics, I added working turn signals to both sides of the trailer using amber LEDs. I made rectangular lenses using lexan.

I also added working turn signal on front sides of the tractor using similar methods as described above. Looks pretty realistic at night. :)

Boxerdog, I had a lumber yard cut a single piece 1/4" pine, which I attached using double sided tape. It's a good choice as it's stronger and cheaper than balsa. Only cost me $4.52. I painted and weathered it after installation.

Hi all; I am attempting my first build of one of these trucks. (Knight Hauler Met Special with MFU, Operating Trailer Legs and Van Trailer with light kit.) I've searched this thread for pictures of how others have routed and organized the wiring but I can only find a few pics that didn't really show what I needed. If anyone has any good closeups of how they routed some of the cables, i.e. the 5th wheel switch, the control box cables and the servo wires, it would be great if you could post them.

Thanks

Hey fueler. Check this website http://www.tamiyaclub.com/advancesearch.asp
and search MFU and you should get what you are lookng for. Click on some of the truck and you can see how they wired there mfu and some people have done. I am hoping to get my MFU soon and I have already drilled some holes in the crossmembers so I do not have to route the wires underneath the chassis.

Nate,

Probably not. I'm involved in the start up of a new electric flying club here in the Mesa/Gilbert area. It's taking up all of my spare time. I do need to sell the truck though as I haven't touched it since I ran it at your place several months ago. The show would be a great place to advertise it but I just can't make it.

If anyone is interested in buying a pristine turnkey Knight Hauler/flatbed trailer setup with ALL the goodies except alloy wheels then P.M. me. But ONLY if you have about $900.00 + shipping to spend though.

Nate = nice pics! thanks for sharing them. Have a couple questions and you (maybe other guys too) might help me with them. I am planning to build a Mercedes 6x6 heavy load truck. Saw on Willi's page some interesting tips but miss something.

1) I will need a transfer case to send power to front axle. It will be a Tamiya TLT axle (which allows front wheels to turn). Do you know where I can find one transfer case for sale? Contacted Willy (wild willy customs) but no answer in past 8 days.
2) Instead of a gear reduction between engine and 3 speed tranny I would like to use it before the 3 speed but: a) need to get one to be fitted onto the chassi and b) a transfer case (1) to fit that.
3) Do you know where I can find off-road or all terrain tires for these Tamiya 1/14 rims?

Hey Blaster Sorry but My german is bad too. I live in Canada, so no german for me. I have also seen some people make a new tranny shaft. It is long and comes out the from and back of the tranny. If you know what I mean. I will try and get some pictures if I can find them. I beleive the tranfer case in the picture was home made, but not sure. I will see what I can find.

Hi guys,

As I told before I decided to buy a new body for my Knowght Hauler as the Metallic Special is hard to keep clean from fingerprints. This Metallic body rests now on original truck box.

Based on some great jobs presented here (ferrarokid, that blue ford was inspiring) i decided to paint it Metallic Blue (Tamiya TS19). Hope you like it.

Hi guys. Sent and E-mail to RC4WD. That's what they answered to me:

" it's discontinued, we might release a newer version, no ETA"

Seems we have to search for new supplier... :(

Found this german site which has some all terrain tires, wheels, transfer cases, truck bodies, front diffs... http://www.truckmodellsport.de/neuheiten.htm#

The www.google.com translator tool (use the text translator, not the webpage).

Their web shop is here: http://truckmodellsport.de/shop/index.html

These guys manufacture tires: http://www.barnhausen.de/index.htm

CARSON= These guys makes direct fit parts (transfer case with 5:1 gear reduction) high speed and all-terrain tires, wheels, traillers, etc. Does anyone knows a US dealer for these? http://www.carson-modelsport.de/de/modelle/truckmodelle.htm

I got an email from RC4WD and they said they will have a new transfer case sometime in june. their is a guy that posted on www.gardentrucking.com that said he used the lower shaft on the front by putting the front bearing on a mount on the inside of the case and filing a flat for the joint cup on the shaft. I am waiting for 2 fuel tanks and steps from Ric at Precision Model and the body is being painted, almost done. I am starting the Peterbult 346 I got the frame cut.I have been bidding on ebay for a TLT-1 to get the front drive axel no luck yet.

Hey everyone. I have had my MFU installed for some time now and forgot to post it, so here it is. I tried to make the wireing nice and neat but that is almost impossible. I got the knight hauler tool box to store the controls, and knight hauler rear lights, so it looks nice at night. I installed the antennas on the mirror to give it a better touch. Also I will show some pictures of my latest project. I ford day cab with a tilting hood, it will have a cat C 15 under the hood with a rad(non-function) it will have air ride for EBH models, and a chain rack at the back of the cab form PMD. Have not order all yet but will soon. I will keep you psoted.

Blaster, THANKS!

Slowpoke, That is a sweet looking rig!

Ok, I just took some pictures of the trailer. I've been practicing the backing up while hitched and I have a new respect for the real big rig drivers! It takes some getting used to.

The other thing I don't like is that when using the MFU, the speed of the truck seems to double when the trailer is hitched. I don't really care for the extra speed because this truck is TOO FAST without the trailer attached anyway. What would be a good motor to slow this beast down? Preferrably something I could get at www.towerhobbies.com if possible.

Anyway, check it out:

Does anyone know if the trailer light set has LED's or regular lights? I added some LED's to the air intake of my knight hauler with the help of a few people a while ago. My problem is that the flatbed has 3 lenses per side but Tamiya's light kit only has enough for two lights per side. I was wondering if it makes a difference if I used LED's or regular lights?? I was looking at these but wanted to get some opinions first whether it would work or not.

I was driving my King hauler today and all of a sudden it wouldnt shift into third and makes a grinding noise. I would have never thought those gears would strip.. Are these transmissions prone to failure? Anywyas I tried to take it apart, I got it loose but can't slide it out from the frames and I'm too lazy to take the whole frame off right now. But these are definitely awesome trucks. I'm going to get a MFU, but i dont like the fact that it changes the speed of the truck depending on weather it has a trailer or not. Is there any way to disable that?

Are you sure that the gears is stripped? Maybe the servohorn has skipped a step or some other problem with it. Check that out first by dissconnecting the servo and shift by hand. As far as i know these gearboxes are almost bullitproof, I know guys who has used there trucks a lot the last 10+ years without hickups. No dissrespect but did you adjust the servo proper when building?

When you remove the gearbox you just lift it up a bit then tilt it some to get it all the way out. No need to slide it out backwards.

Hey guys. I'm more into planes and helicopters right now so my Knight Hauler/Flat bed trailer is just sitting doing nothing. Aside from eBay where do you think is the best place to try and sell it? I've got a TON of money in it with the best of everything so I don't want to take too much of a bath on it. I want to sell it ready to rock and roll with batteries and everything. I'd prefer to sell it local in the Phoenix area to avoid all the shipping hassles but I guess I could crate it up if the buyer wants to share the cost. It hurts bad to see all that money just sitting there. It looks beautiful and all the fun for me was in building it. It's just got to go. I want more helicopters right now.

Hi Fueler,
My Metallic Special body (cabin & roof) is lying around here. Was used but it is on a good shape. I can send you pics if you want (PM me). Would trade off on a new in bag body/roof or a well painted one combo.
For a NIB Metallic Special I would try one of those asian e-bay sellers or asian hobby stores.

OR! you can just goto tamiyausa.com and pick up the chrome replacement parts on the metalic special, here's the link to the roof spoiler as well as the part number or you can just find the truck on the site and get the data sheet for the part numbers. either way you can buy it directly from them.

you're welcome. you just put the part number for it in that little search box on the left hand side of the site. if you goto the tab at the top of the site and click "radio control" then click "tractor trucks" then click on the either of the trucks or for the matter any R/C listed theres always the data sheet that has the part numbers, some also have the instruction manual that you can download.

Hey Guys, well I havent posted in awhile , But I have been Building my globeliner and came across a snag. I'm at the point where I am starting to install the lights and all in the cab from the MFU, But It looks like the bulbs are bigger than the holes in which they are smaller than the holes that they go into.. Am i doing something wrong? Can someone Help me out.. ALL these lights are confusing me and really starting to get on my nerves, but I refuse to give up on this thing

Anybody?

Alfy, by looking at my MFU manual it states for the 5 roof lights and the left/right signals have to opened to 4mm holes.

Alfy,

Some silicone sealant should do the trick...smells like crap but will do the job i'd think...BTW can you post some pics of the Globeliner that you were converting to an Aerodyne...it sure looked good last I saw...

One thing used a lot on the Tamiya Tanks for holding in lights and fiber optics is rubber cement. Atleast then you can pull the lights back out and it usually dries clear.

Alfy, do you have the MFU yet? My MFU manual has vague instructions for each truck at the back. It shows the speaker mounted in the front of the truck using the small speaker encloser. it looks like you'd have to remove the dash, steering wheel, seats, etc...Its not great detail so the actual mounting locations will have to be figured out.

No,its just the driver side step that has the control in it with no cover.I just looked at the mfu instructions and the Volvo is on the right side in front of the rear wheel ,it looks to be a fuel tank. The mfu and vibration unit are on top of the motor and the speaker is mounted to the top of the cab.

I was wondering where it went??? I have moved the first rear axle forward 30mm so I lose the tray on the end of the fuel tank where the esc would of gone. Hmmm OK so I could make just a lid to look like a tool box.... but a truck with out a fuel tank?? may look a bit odd. Because I have some extra length I can keep the tank and place the control unit in a tool box.
Have you got any close up pic's of the box open or how it went together? May have to make my own somehow!

I had an idea to put a globeliner on a king hauler frame,I wonder if you could do that with the volvo it would give you plenty of room on the frame for the mfu box and a great stretched look. how many axels are you using?

Thanks Boxer! I primed the body parts this morning as not much else I can until the rear dual suspension parts arrive. Have two lots of single setups, but adds too much distance between the wheels. Once they are all here I can start putting it together once and for all. I think the tool box up behind the cab will hide some of the wires as there is a bit of a gap between the cab bottom and chassis.

Yes that was me I got from a guy on another site .You use a Great Planes GD600 gear drive and turn the output shaft dia. ( I hooked the motor to it and used a file)to fit the the trans drive gear ,you also have to trim the bearing housing a little to fit the trans .I used a 12t pinion and it gives me about 4:1 real nice in 1st.gear ,just libe the real thing

Check that the motor pinion is on far enough so the grub screw doesn't hit the main spur gear. Have a look at that.

Otherwise is it in all gears or just one gear?

Hi folks,

Sorry for this long post. However will need it to show why I need some help/ideas.

I have been working on a project to transform my Tamiya MB Tractor on an 8x6 Dump Truck. My goals are;

1) Make the 8x6 MB Dump Truck
2) Modify as less as possible the MB original parts, to make it reversible if I want. ;)
3) Use as many Tamiya original parts as possible, focusing on item 2 above. :)

The original one is this:

http://www.boss-truck.com/images/Tipper/KPME1175b.jpg

http://www.rcsuper.com/fotos/Imagem 030a.jpg

http://www.rcsuper.com/fotos/Imagem 031a.jpg

I need your comments/suggestions/help on:

1) Transfer Case: as i could not buy one from Carson (Germany) yet I will need to build one. So far all I have to do that are Styrene sheets, Tamiya TLT (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=47201) parts, GP Gear T400 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000321385&I=LXAGC8&P=K) and GD600 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000321385&I=LXSL79&P=K) along with other Tamiya Tractor Truck parts. Any ideas?

3) Steering: I heard from a friend that those trucks with 2 turning axles have the 2nd axle turning on a smaller angle than the 1st one. Actually my MB truck turns both axles at same angle. As it does not have a working transmission (missing item 1 above) I could not test it properly. Any clue on this?

Thanks guys!

mcrooks
05-25-2006, 05:34 PM
Hi Blaster, yes it is true about the steering axles turning at different angles, its a bit complicated but its down to "ackerman angle"
real trucks have a relay link that reduces the turn angle on the second axle by about 33%
With regard to the gearing I am thinking of replacing the normal motor with one that I have that has a 6:1 gearbox built into it, Available in the UK under the MFA label. What does "lol" mean, not heard it this side of the ocean!!
Hope this helps, Michael

Rapko, Nice rig alround mate!

Blaster I think if you change your servo horns you should be able to slow down the the rear turning axle, play around with some ratio's?

Blaster
05-25-2006, 06:19 PM
Hi pro-4x4. Agree with your idea of play with servo horns. Tks for your tip!

But as far as I understood from Michael I will need to limit the 2nd servo travel to arround 66% of the angle that the 1st servo travels when turning. Therefore the problem wont be de delay but the angle the wheels of these 2 axles makes while turning...

I just spoke to a friend that flies helicopter. He suggested that I should mix 2 servos on my transmiter and adjust the travel of each of them. This way I can use 2 channels (therefore 2 separated servos) for steering. Any ideas?

boxerdog
05-25-2006, 06:29 PM
Why could't you use 1 servo and run 1 axel off the other with a longer arm on one which would cause 1 to turn more than the other.I agree you would have to play with the lenghts

Hi Boxerdog = only one servo demands a way to complicated link with too much sloop. I decided to use 2 servos because it has much lower sloop and gives me more torque than a single one. For now I am using futaba S3004 but the final truck will use 2 futaba S9405 or any other hight torque servo that I can mix through the transmiter.

Also, after that mcrooks said that a 2nd axle has about a 33% difference on turning angle compared to 1st axle I believe that use only one servo to do that would be mechanical nightmare.

Hi Kyle. Yeah you gave me this link before and this was the inpiration to my truck! Thanks for that.

I saw what this guy did and use it to make my own changes on stock truck. Most changes I have made are different than his as his project demands too many modifications on stock truck and my goal is keep it simple.

So far my changes are:
1) Stock MB chassi without rear axle
2) Engine/Tranny were rised using TLT spacers
3) 2nd turning axle came from a TLT also
4) Bought a Knight Hauler chassi with spacers. Cut ir right in front of rear double axle and:
a) The front part of Knight Hauler chassi that I cut has holes that matches perfectly with MB and the own Knight Hauler rear part with 2 axles. Just screwed them together. After that was easy to mark 2 holes on each side to fix a support (front shock tower) ahead of double rear axle.
b) Made 2 holes to fix the 2nd turning axle. The other holes are stock ones.
c) The 2nd servo uses a stock MB chassi hole and another one was made to fix it on inside chassi.

Thanks for your reply guys!

Hi Blaster, you are getting me tooo interested in your project!!!! Looking at your photos, I reckon if you use a shorter servo horn on the second axle it may save some complications with mixers. I have tried a mixer in the past when I was building boats, lets just say it did not work as I expected!
I have put some photos on Garden trucking gallery (12)of UK trucks, mines the blue one awaiting conversion to a Pete 359

The tires did not take long to get here form Germany. Only about a week. The tires are form robbe and have to turned down so that they fit the stock tamiya rims. I am sorry but I do not have lorenzo email. I contacted him through private message on a different form Gardentrucking.com

Hey everyone
Update on my dropdeck.
Got a great deal of the work done. Have the frame rails cut and just need to weld them together. Should have that done by tomorrow. I use a stock flatbed + tanker trailer frame rails + extra flatbed deck. I also shortened the distance from the kinpin to the landing gear. I did not want to have a big deck on the top and it will still be able to retract when attached. The rear of the trailer will be slope down and will not have ramps, but will have removeable ramps. I may have some pictures of it tomorrow all welded togther. I am also filling in some of holes on the frame. Any comment or suggest will be nice

that's a tight looking trailer so far. Hope to see more pictures soon. A lot nicer than the Bruder trailer I converted for Rcpuller. Keep us posted

I saw this interesting kind of trailer once. Just though this could be a good opportunity to show to those who never saw one...

Manufacturer says that the inclination angle to load a cargo through this method is only 3 degrees...

i just bought me a tamiya globe liner....what are some things i need to know about this truck?is it good?any tips?

Hi GRUNDIG415. I believe that Globeliner is one of best Tamiya trucks. On this other forum (HERE (http://s8.invisionfree.com/Scale_4x4_RC/index.php?showtopic=5525&st=0)) it was tied with King Hauler. When you have a chance consider a MFU for it. Other than that, have fun with your nice rig!

Please share pics of it with us, when you have them. :)

Hello all. (New member; first post I spent the past two days reading all the posts, and decided to contribute what I am able to a neat group of like-minded people).
I've been working on an 8x4 MB tractor for a couple of years now. I am getting close to the point of calling it finished. (No idea about a trailer for it yet).
I didn't have to deal with the transfer case issue that you mentioned, (well...not for this one. I'm also doing a pseudo-military King Hauler as a 6x6 tank transporter. For that one, I recessed the lower front bearing in the transmission, and filed a flat spot on the shaft for a Tamiya joint cup. It makes for a short front driveshaft at a pretty severe angle, so I'm not real happy about it; because it allows no front axle movement at all. I called Ric at Garden Trucking today, and asked him about getting a Carson 5:1 reduction gear that bolts to the back of the transmission, but it comes out to about $270, and I just can't pay out that kind of money for this...I will find another way, somehow). And, as has been slready stated, the rc4wd transfer case isn't available right now.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting in relation to your project is that I managed to get both sets of steering axles to turn at (what looks like) the right angles, and I did it by mounting the steering servo rod to different holes on each axle, so that the front one turns at a sharper angle than the 2nd axle. The hardest part was to find a way to hook everything up so that there wasn't "slop" in the linkages. Otherwise, the wheels would never come back to the same original point when turning back to straight, (each axle in comparison to the other, I mean). I kept trying different parts, and finally used a metal piece from pipe-holder pivot on the Pole Trailer to bolt the linkage pivots to.
I know this'll all be more clear when I can post a picture, but that will have to wait for (probably) another couple of weeks. I live in Hawaii, but have here in California for the past 9 weeks, taking care of my Dad, who is terminally ill. I'll have my (adult) kids help me try and figure out how to take and post pictures.

does tamiya still make a sound unit for these trucks?

Sassgrunt

The sound unit I have either came with the truck, or else I bought a sound & effects kit as an add-on later, (I don't remember which; I bought the original kit about 6 years ago). It uses the same speaker as the Tamiya tanks, which is about 2" x 2". On the Mercedes tractor kit, you're supposed to install the speaker so it hangs from the roof of the cab, and everything else mounts either in the cab (not much room there), or under/next to the frame, (the battery hangs sideways under the frame as well).
But, the tractor I'm making has the two front axles separated from the two rear axles, and doesn't have the side cover-up fairings in between, (which hides the mechanical stuff & battery on the regular kit). If I remember right, I used the Aeromax frame rails because nothing else was long enough. I had to mount whatever I could inside the cab, and then cut up the battery tray to fit lengthways in between the frame rails, and then covered the battrey with a (hinged) diamond-plate metal piece. I'd like to have used the new MFU for this truck, but there was just no room to fit it up.

TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE:Also is a 53 inch trailer too big for a stock tamyia king hauler? would it look right?

thanks cody

Depends on the trailer... If you are sticking with a box trailer or something then a 53' in real life would only be 45" scale. If you are doing a low boy or gooseneck trailer designed to haul very long oversized loads then it wouldn't be too far fetched.

Considering that a knight with the box trailer is about 52" long when attached, a trailer that's 53" by itself may look a bit off. Just do a mock up. Cut out some cardboard or something just to get an idea of how a 53" trailer will look.

Cody do some research on the net and look up low boy trailers and what not to see just how long they are and what kind of jobs they do... If you do a trailer that is 53" then in real life that trailer would be about 61' long.

Cody I meant the real one's. Then you get an idea of length compared to the tractor so you'll know how it will look if you model it to 1/14 scale.

I posted here few days ago some pictures of a project that I was working on: a Tamiya Mercedes-Benz 6x8 dump truck. However due to some difficulties on get needed parts to finish it (mainly some transmission parts out of Germany) I decided to put it aside and develop a new project.

These are pictures of my custom 3 axle Mercedes tractor. Still have to work on decals, glue the wipers, customize the "Euro Box" behind the cabin, remove rust and paint rear leaf springs, rebuilt fuel tank and find a new place to the ESC, rebuilt the air tanks and the side skirts.

Basically it is a stock MB1838LS chassis with rear part (from double axle mounting holes to the end) of a Knight Hauler chassis. Also from KH are the complete double rear axles, chassis brace to fix it and dogbone shortened accordingly.

Some might saw this on another forum but here are the pics:
