Hey all, I need some advice :) I just bought an other Rig, the guy I bought it from had this truck displayed over the range in the kitchen. The bad news is it has cooking greas all over it. I have gotten all of it off the metal and plastic parts but the tires are also covered in grease. Any one have any idea of how I can get the grease offthe tires?

What the hell was it doing in the kitchen?

Way back when I used to race off road after every race I always washed my salvageable tires with Castrol Super Clean to remove all the dirt and crud. They came out looking like new. DON'T use it on the rims, paint or aluminum and wear gloves at all times or it'll take off your skin. If this stuff won't take off the grease nothing will!.

Try Dawn dishwashing liquid before going to anything harsher. It's what they use to clean up roads when they get grease and oil spills on them. They also use it to clean oil covered animals, when they get caught in an oil slick.

LOL! Ain't it the truth!

I just got back from Autozone. Picked up some Dupli-Color sand able primer. Also got some 400 and 800 grit paper too. Now I need to decide on a color. I've already done the Knight Hauler in yellow so the Globe Liner needs to be a different color. I'm thinking either a bright red or a light blue. I'll work at getting the body prepped properly then make a final decision on a color.

Joe

you know..i forgot to mention Dupli-Color. Thats what ive been using lately...seems to work rather well however the smell is pretty high..

OK now we need some pics of your rigs and trailers. I have shared mine, let's see your first one. We can wait until your get the second one done.

As all know here I am in the middle of a tank project, but once that's done the Metallic Knight Hauler, and you know what's great about it, the tank and the Knight have the same Knight decals! Now that's a match made in heaven.

Now can someone tell me where to pick up a lowboy trailer, for a resonable price?

Thanks,

Bernie

I'm a workin' on it. I may finish it tonight.
My camera kinda sucks. It's only 1.3 megapixel. I just ordered a new Olympus 5.0 megapixel on Saturday. I got free shipping so it won't be here any time soon though. :(

No pix tonight. Lately I have the attention span of a 2 year old. I keep losing interest in one thing and starting on something else. I actually drug out my old RC10T from 1991 that I used to race and started messing with it again. I snagged a set of shocks that I needed for it on eBay and they came in today. This truck was state of the art when it came out. Boy has RC race technology changed in the last 14 years!
I'll finish the Knight Hauler soon. I'd sure like to see pictures from everybody else in the mean time though.

Don't even try to post a high res pic here. Won't happen, it has to be small res. Unless you can point all of us to a website.

Hmmm. I'm not getting e-mail notifications of posts again. :(

I mounted the telescoping antenna and routed and zip tied the light wire bundles on the body. I've been hearing a bad rattling at full throttle caused by the vibrator. I finally saw it was the right side running board/tool box flopping around like crazy. It doesn't have much support to stop it from flexing. I think I'll hide some stick on weight in the tool box to see if that'll cancel out the frequency of the vibration. I need to take care of this before final wire routing and body mounting. It sounds pretty bad. I'm heading to bed early tonight so will have to play with it tomorrow.

You can adjust the vibration on the MFCU, turn it down a bit. And if you put the big weight on it replace it with the smaller one.

Great looking rigs Jampie. Welcome to the Zone!

If I ever get all the vibration rattles taken care of on mine I'll be able to install the body and get some shots of mine. I adjusted the vibration pot down and it's a little better but at full throttle it still sounds pretty bad. I weighted the right side toolbox and took care of that rattle. Now it's the MFCU that's rattling on the speaker box. I'm going to mount it with the wetsuit material that comes with Hitec RX's to see if that will quiet it. I can't seem to get much time to work on it lately though.

It's that time of year, lots to do outside, and little time to work on anything. Here comes the T storm, so am signing off, I don't want to buy a new computer too. I still have a tank to finish.

Well I finally got all the rattles cured. Somehow got all 23 miles of wiring to fit inside the cab too. The pictures were taken with the new camera and I haven't read the manual yet so they could be better if I knew what I was doing.

First is an overall shot with the PT Cruiser Muscle Machines and the pallets I made on the trailer. I wish my real PT Cruiser looked like one of them. :D

Boy they sure don't give much room for pictures do they? I had shrunk them to under 100k and I just had to shrink them again to upload.

Nate,

Let me know what you want and I'll make them for you. Just send me the picture you want and the width dimension you need. I wasn't able to find a usable image of the mud flap girl you see on the trucks so I went with this one. The picture doesn't do her justice. She's actually VERY hot! I think it started as a shot of a real girl.

I make them with the Testors decal maker. The basic kit is less than $10.00 and boy is it basic. I bought the $20.00 upgrade and it's nothing fancy but it does let you do a little more. It prints on a half sheet of water slide paper. I also have a few sheets of clear vinyl sheet that seems to work much better. I can't find any more of it though. I can't remember where I bought it a year or so ago.

I've finished building the tow truck body for my latest rig. now just need to finish the wiring :( man what a pain. But I'll have her fineshed before the big boyz and there toyz show next month. Looks like we will have people from as far as canada attending this show.

Hey Joe,love the yellow paint job on your truck, looks real good.I have always had a thing for yellow paint, but never have done it on a model or in real. Was talked out of it on my Harley back a few years ago and wished i had followed my thoughts, but i settled for Cadilac Diamond Pearl White with Purple flames and was happy and now i like white paint.Ok rambled on enough about colors.Anyways like your new truck, looks good to me.I got my drop-deck trailer finished, just need to take some pics and post them.It turned out nice i think, looks much better with paint and the wood floor than the pics of the trailer in the building faze.Working now on my Wedico Century truck, taking my time on it to make sure i get it perfect, well at least 95% perfect, lol.
Hey anyone looking for a Metallic Tamiya King Hauler(Chrome Body),i have a new in the box kit i would like to sell.I can't bring myself to build it considering how rare it is.Saw just the body sell on Ebay for $150.I just want what i have in it to anyone interested.Later Randy.

PS,I'll post some pics of the trailer and Century progress soon, also can provideb any pics wanted of the Chrome King Hauler anyone wants, just let me know.Basically the exact same as a regulur King Hauler, except for the cab body being chrome plated, plus being labeled as "Metallic" on the box and instruction manual.

Hey Joe,I have had very good luck using Dupli-Color paints for painting my bodys and frame parts.I use there primers, paint and clear-coats.Only thing i have noticed is i seem to use a lot more cans of paint than i thought. Not due to lack of color, but to try to make all the parts match when painting each part seperate. Also i loose a good bit of paint due to the wind blowing painting outside,a good ventilated booth would be great, specially with lots of places to hang or hold the parts after painting. My biggest mistakes in paint jobs happens when i paint something outside, then try to bring it back inside the house and end up dropping a part or a part moving or rubbing against another trying to hold them stable in my lap in the stupid wheelchair. The slightest bump i hit might cause my legs to shake or spasm and ruin things real quick.I need a paint booth bad,or at least a clean place to paint with no bugs or dust.
Anyways Dupli-Color paints are the bomb, plus lots of colors available and 99% of the time changing from can to can in the same color makes no diiference in color. Also some Dupli-Color paints don't need a clear coat, only cans or names of paint ending with a "CC" need a clear coat.Hope this all makes sense. But by the looks of your new Yellow Knight Hauler, you got the paint figured out, later Randy.
Have any of you had trouble painting the bodies? I'm ready to stomp the damned thing into little bits. After days of screwing around with several different paints I finally got a so-so job done on the body/spoiler. I'm not happy with the shine but at this point it's good enough. I'm trying to paint the panels at the rear of the sleeper/spoiler and I just can't get a consistant shine. I've tried sanding, priming, clear coat, different color and nothing works. There are patches that come out dull no matter what I do. So far I've tried Tamiya chrome yellow. That sucked. Then Krylon Fusion yellow. That was only slightly better. Now I've given up on yellow on these panels and I'm trying Tamiya black with the same exact results in the same exact areas. It's not like I've never painted anything before but you'd sure think so the way I'm fighting this thing. All I need to do is get a decent coat on these panels and I can finish up the truck. What the heck is going on? It's almost as if the plastic is gassing and contaminating the paint. I've washed everything using dish soap/alcohol or window cleaner. I'm getting tired of stripping and painting. Light coats or heavy coats it just doesn't seem to matter. I don't know what I'm going to do with the Globe Liner when I build it. It may just stay white.

Joe

Turbojoe
05-28-2005, 10:53 PM
Randy,

The paint was definitely the most (actually the only) frustrating part of the build. I didn't expect the need for primer on plastic. I got tired of screwing around with it and when I finally got a semi decent coat on it I stopped.
I now have all of the Dupli-Color products to do the job right on the Globe Liner but I'm starting to think I may sell it rather than build it. I've spent far too much money on these things.

Hey Joe,I am very far from a perfect painter,i sure wish i was though.I have had several failures, but most were my own fault when i got right down to the nitty gritty. The best thing i did was stay with 1 (one) brand of paints and sticking with it from start to finnish.I always used a primer, but mainly the paint can said to.I'm not one to follow directions 100%,but on painting,i follow the directions almost 100%.I have had paint raise on me,or check like you said, also have had it orange peel as some call it.Only thing i know is i am sure glad i was only painting models or small scale compared to a full size hot rod or even a daily beater car or truck.I am like you and have a air brush, but have never used it yet.Bought it,got a compressor, but it was such a hassle i just never tried it.Plus i think i got a bumm air compressor via Ebay,it was cheap and i think i got what i payed for.
One thing i can tell you and this might be only me,but if i am having problems be it painting,or building a something and nothing is going as planned,Quit Right Now and come back later,be it a hour,or a day or a week.If i am not in the mood and relaxed so to speak,it's a failure or just Ok.It's hard to do,but if things are going wrong, walk away for a while.
About the plastic,i have had some plastic react to paint and do what i call fish eye, kind of like good coverage, then spots or little circles form. Most of the time it's from a residue left from cleaning, thats where i think primer comes into play as it seems to be more forgiving and gives the actual final paint coat go on best.
Basically i think painting is like waking up on the wrong side of the bed days, some days are good, other are not.Anyways glad to add more confusion to your painting problems, well not glad, just mean to say it happens to everyone, but i think it picks me too othen.By the way,i wouldn't let a bad paint job make me want to sell out, just calm down and start over,no fun but when it turns out nice,it is a great satisfaction.Good luck Randy.

Randy,

I'm not thinking of selling out. Just maybe selling the unbuilt Globe Liner. I've got too much money wrapped up in these things. I've been wanting to build a .25-.40 size electric plane and that's going to get expensive. Selling the GL will help fund that. One truck is enough for me anyway.

I bought out my LHS of Tamiya TS-3 dark yellow paint. And now I am out and I can't really continue building the tank without painting as I go along. Does anyone know where I can get some, spray can or jar?

I know that Tamiya has to change the labels, but how long can that take? Make some stickers and put them on the existing cans and then manufacture using the right label.

I need to find a battery charger that will work with NIMH and NICD battery packs, with 3300 mAH capacities and up, without mechanical timers etc., cost is a small object, but I think I blew up a $50 battery pack using the cheap Tower Hobbies 420 charger and not paying much attention. And buying more battery packs will soon outweigh the cost of a good charger.

Ever thought of trying lithiums? Thunder Power has got a 7.4 volt, 4200 mah pack......but you will need a lithium charger though. Let me know if you guys want links. The pack size is close to that of a 3000 nimh.

The runtime should be a whole lot more because 1-you hve 1200 more mah to play with and 2-you have 1.2 more volts.....I ran a 7.4 2100 lithium in my truck...but it wasn't for too long because I was worried about the amp draw.

I use a PF-12 dual output Park flyer peak charger it can charge nicd as well as Ni-Mh 12 volt packs. cost $114 dollers. but mine will charge 2 packs at the same time. you can get one that only chages one at a time, for I think $60 to $70 dollers.

Hi all. I just received my box trailer from "must_bid" and WOW! It's way cool! Looks like I know what I'm going to do this weekend! Tamiya kits are sooooo high quality and well engineered. (That's probably why I have a closet full of 'em!)
Has anyone had the side panels of the box trailer polished?

Anyways, here are a few pics of the wiring job. Very time consuming to get it all inside of shrink wrap, but worth it I think. I still have the cab and wiring to do but am enjoying every second of it! Cheers, copier dude.

Where did you get them?
What voltage does the Tamiya system operate on? Don't the LED's generally have a fairly wide voltage range they'll operate on? Should be easy enough to find something but I haven't had the time to search around. :(

Nate,

Did you go to the Big Boys toy show? I was too burned out from work and didn't get anything ready to go. I wanted to at least go to the show and see all the trucks but didn't even get that far. They say they are finally going to hire another tech so that should take some of the load off of me I hope.

Joe, I sure did. It was a really good showing. We had a guy there from Canada, another from Indiana, and 3 from Montana. and abought a dozen or so from AZ. We had excavators, bulldozers and cranes on top of all the vearios trucks. Also had a fiew people from worck show up as well. I was going to call you, but I figuired you where probibly in Indiana for that confince. If I'd known you where home, I could have got you in the show for free. As every one driving trucks in the show got a free pass. But theres always next years Big Boys and There Toys show. Mark that on you calender for next year. Ric also hired a guy to take take vidio and he's going to make a 2 hour long vidio from what we did at the show. He should have that in stock in a couple weeks or so.

Hello all. Well, after more than 5 years of longingly looking at the Tamiya Aeromax, I finally devoted some disposable income to one. I bought the following:

Tamiya Aeromax
Tamiya MFCU
Full bearings
Full Aluminum Rims (3Racing)

I have been modeling static kits for nearly 20 years (I'm 28) and prior to this truck my only R/C experience was Tyco and the like. I'm military (Navy) and have been deployed or away from home almost all of the last five years. I finally got some shore duty and am getting back into modeling.

Like many of you, I saw the RCU/Tamiya video clips and finally stopped procrastinating. I have honestly always liked the real Ford Aeromax trucks in terms of their styling (look like beasts), so I am very pleased Tamiya did a scale model of one (not a generic truck like the Knight/King Hauler or Globeliner). Then again, my daily driver is an F150. If you hate Fords, oh well...to each his own  . The only trucks I would like to see more than the Aeromax as R/C models are the Kenworth T2000 and Volvo VN (670/780).

My Aeromax will be built close to stock with the exception of the above extra items and maybe some minor scratchbuilding to make it look as much like a real Aeromax as possible. First thing to be modified are the taillights...Ford mounts a single, circular backup and two circular signals between the frame rails, not in a huge chrome light bar. I have some questions, though:

1. What servos are best? I had planned on using Futaba standard 3004's on the shifter and fifth wheel, but I may use a Hitec High Torque servo for the steering. Is that overkill, or would a 3004 work on the steering just fine?
What servos do you all use?

2. This is (and will be) my only R/C model, so I need to get a dedicated transmitter/receiver. Is the Futaba Attack 4wd good for my purposes? Do receivers come with the transmitters or is that a separate purchase? What freq should I use? 75mhz?

3. Has anyone installed an MFCU in the Aeromax? How does it sound when the speaker is mounted to the roof per the instructions? Would the speaker-in-a-box sound better (I can probably make it fit)??

4. Do you really use the small counterweight in the Aeromax vice the big one?

5. What batteries/charger are best?

6. Aside from the servos (x3), a transmitter/receiver and the batteries, what else do I need to get the Aeromax running?

7. Will the LRP Puller motor work with the MFCU or should I stick with the Tamiya kit motor?

This thing is expensive  , but it will be well worth it. I may make an American prototype trailer for it one day (the Tamiya trailers are Euro-looking and short), but the tractor will do for now.

Any help with the above questions is most appreciated. Thanks.

suprizingly stock AKA "cheap" servos do just fine to turn all the whieght over the front axal on these trucks. and have no truble shifting gears. I use a mini servo for my 5th wheel.

Wow, you've got some fun ahead! But anyway, WELCOME TO THE CLUB! 1.3004s will wok fine...No need for a torquer.
2.The Attack 4WD is fine (but I myself, don't like AM transmitters).
3.It sounds a little flat in the stock mount. (I have a friend with the Areomax) Yoy can modify it to make the larger box fit. My Knight Hauler has the box, and it sounds great!
4.Whatever the manual recommends on the counter-weight.
5.Peak chargers and 3000mah or higher batteries are best (I think Sanyo make a 3600mah).
6.A very small amount of plastic model glue, screwdrivers, pliers, side cutters, and patience.
7.I'm not sure on that one.

Hope I have been of some help. Once again, welcome to the club.

Welcome Mike! You're in the right place. The guys here know their stuff and were a great help to me.
I'll go along with the stock 3004 servos being more than adequate. A high dollar/high torque servo doesn't seem to be needed. At least not for my Knight Hauler. I use a Futaba Skysport 6 channel (75 mhz) with 3004's and it works great. The MFCU is awesome. It sounds so realistic that when I leave it idling for a long time I worry about the engine overheating!

the only other thing I would strogly recomend is a 4:1 gear redction sub transmition. I have a 4:1 in my towtruck and was able to pull my heavy hualer rig with my drop deck trailer and a 37 lbs excavator (abought 73 lbs toatal) with no problims. only thing I have to do now is add a lot of whieght over the front axel. as steering..........well lets just say it takes a lot more room than I have to make a 90 degree turn. at the show we had a bidge set up at roughly a 40 degree angle and at the crest of the climb the hole front end of my tow truck was all the way off the ground. I'll see if I can get the pic on the board.

Thank you to everyone who replied and thanks for the welcome. I have read every page of this forum (been lurking awhile) and the info has been invaluable. In my area, these trucks are about as common as unicorns and you get a strange look when asking about them, so I really appreciate the inputs.

1. I guess I will get the Futaba Attack 4WD. Are there cannels I should avoid (A1-A6)? How have those with this tx liked the performance? I really don't see any R/C activity where I am living, so I think the 27mHz freq won't pose a problem (or am I wrong?).

2. I will use Futaba 3004 servos throughout, maybe a micro for the 5th wheel (3101?).

3. I will find a way to use the MFCU sound box vice mounting the speaker to the roof. I know the MFCU box isn't as big as the one in the Knight Hauler, but it should provide a little more bass and clarity than just mounting the plain speaker to the roof.

4. I intend to get a 3300 or 3600 mAh power pack and the MRC Super Brain 959 peak charger...is this a good combo? Any problems with my choices?

I think that will just about do it for my project. Now I have to decide on a paint scheme. I would like to model a real Ford color scheme, maybe even a particular actual truck. I'll post progress when it occurs. Thanks again for the help.

If you doent live any where need any one who uses a CB radio or police, fire or emt's you should be fine. expereance has shown me that 27mhz around these types of radios has a severe bad reaction and all your car will do is glitch like nothing I can discribe.

I would go with at least 6 chanels. I use a 6 chanel airtronics VG 600 on my tow truck, and an 8 chanel Airtronics RD 8000 on my hauler. I have the 3 speed trans hooked up to my 3 position togle switch on uper right hand corner of the radio. As this gives me 4 proportional chanels to work with. When I first got my wedico hauler I was told to go with a 6 chanel radio. I thought I'd never need that many chanels so now I use the 8 chanel radio and wish I had more. one day I'dd break down and buy a Robbe F14 expandable radio, and expand it to the max. Which is some where around 150ish chanels.

Bingo :D

I already have it, and if anyone here thinks our trucks are expensive, try a car that has been out of production for 23 years. I am going to try and attach a pic but not sure if its small enough. The forum isn't letting me attach an image

As for building the truck, for basic operation you need a 2 channel radio and battery, but be prepared if you want to do any upgrades get at least a 4 channel radio, in the 75MHz band. That way you don't need to worry about kids and their toys or anything else running on that band. I use Futaba Skysport radios with the throttle converted to a spring center.

The key is to leave on the last yellow (or possibly earlier for a slow launching vehicle) Don't wait for the green. That'll only decrease your reaction time though. It has no relevance to your E.T. The elapsed time starts when you break the staging beams.

Do you watch Trucks on Spike TV? You need more: :D propane and nitrous, over 500HP at the rear wheels. It only takes money, it's not about cubic inches but cubic dollars. And your trans won't stand up to all that power so plan on getting a stronger replacement :(.

already spent 3500.00 on a nice trans that will handle it.i cooked the stock tranny with just a chip :D  .im not going the propane/nos route.all i need is for a valve to screw up and fill the engine with propane and grenade it as there is no way to shut a diesel down as long as it has fuel to burn, unless you want to stand next to engine spinning at top rpms and try to clog the intake to kill it

the best advice I ever got when I was racing is: "speed cost's money, how fast do you whant to go"?

Unfortionatly I whanted to go faster than tires whould allow

While I have a few hours in a C-130, E-2B, Cessna 172 and Quicksilver untralight I'm not a licensed pilot. The UL was by far the most fun to fly and I've wanted one since the last flight about 8 years ago. The C-130, E-2B and Cessna were 30 years ago when I was in the Navy. The only thing I pilot now is my RC planes.

The trailer light gets power from the truck, you connect a cable between the truck and trailer, slightly annoying if one have the motorlegs to still have to go to the trailer and unplugg the light cable.

I just bought another wedico truck, this ones a dump truck. but this ones set up as a static model, so its going to take a lot of work and a hole lot of money to make this one r/c. At least I have a spare 6 chanel radio for it. This one will be totaly sweet when doen. as one gas tank will be used to hole the (hydrolic) oil for the lifting cilender, the other will house the esc and sound unite. And it will have a faulse floor to hide the electical system, so when the dump bed is in the up position you will not see any wireing. The cab will also be fully detailed. just wish it where here allready. but it won't be shiped from California untill tuesday.

Great forum guys. I've been looking for just such a place for quite a while now. Nice to see there are other people who like building (and running) the big rigs as well.

Anyone on here ever tried running with Wild Willy's truckpuller motor? It's supposed to run at half of Tamiya's 16000 rpms, as well as deliver more torque. Normally I wouldn't question the capabilities of the stock motor, but I'm building the deck trailer into a scale 53 footer (4 and a half feet long).

I've got the lengthening frame parts and braces bolted onto the trailer and it's already pretty heavy. I'm concerned that there may be weight problems after I load 'er up with logs (branches from my backyard trees).

As far as trucks go thers only 2 truck companies avalible in the U.S. right now, Tamiya and Wedico. As far as what to get, Well that depends on personal preferance, and how much you are willing to spend. Tamiya is the most camon truck in America right now. But Wedico has more options, but also cost consiterably more money.

As for me I prefer Wedico over all. As its all diecast aluminum and stianless steel constuction. Tamiya just has 2 metal fraim rails all the rest is plastic.
Wedico also offers more trailers than Tamiya, and there functional. (Wedico tanker trailers actualy hold liquid, there drop deck trailers w/rapms are funtional by a servo conected to the trailers electrical system, there dump trailers have real working hydrolics in them to dump a load.

Hope this helps.

My first attempt at a R/C kit was the Aeromax. For a beginner, it was a little intimidating at first, but once I got into it, everything went together fairly smoothly. This is in most part due to Tamiya's excellent manual and precise engineering. I honestly can't think of one part that didn't fit together exactly as it was designed to.

I've since built the Globeliner, tank trailer, flatdeck trailer, and will be starting on the Knight Hauler if the MFC ever comes in. :) They've all gone together very well. The only one that gave me a problem was the Globeliner. Compared to the conventional tractors, it has a lot less room under the cab. It was a real tight fit trying to get the MFC under the cab. For this reason, I'd probably recommend one of the conventional units for your first kit. But, if cost is a concern, the GL is the cheapest of the four.

Whatever kit you choose, just take your time, double-check your progress (especially when building the diffs and gearbox) and everything will fall into place.

Heres a pic of my next project, as it sits its a rolling chasis, but it does have a real working hydrolic cyllender. the hydrolic fluid will be housed inside a fule trank, and the sound unite and speed controle will be housed inside the other fule tank. the drop axel will go away and will be replaced with a tool box that will house the receiver and the other tool box on the other side will house the main PCB board, the battery will be hidden in a fals bed on the dump body. also thinking abought maked it all wheel drive.

The hydrolics are made by wedico. Drop axel is the axel neerest the cab. The hydrolic is a 4 stage hydrolic cylender made by wedico. As for the pic of the second axel.....that I dond have. There is a mopunting plate under the chasis that hides the gearing meconism that lifts and drop the axel. The way its set up is there is a groove on each side of the frame rails that the hole axel assembaly rides on so when the axel is lifted the leaf spings rase up with it. Witch for a static model works great, but for making it r/c not so much. As there is no way to get a drive shaft to the #2 and #3 axel. However wedico does make a lift axel kit for r/c use. That is basicly an "A" arm mounted verticly one on eather side of the frame that is operated by a servo to lift and drop the axel.

right now it only comes in one length. as for hydrolic oil it uses a 3:1 oil. its operated on its own radio chanel, and has its own esc to operate the pump. so the chanel that it needs to use has to be proportional. you can how ever use a switch on the truck. I have a tow truck that I have the same esc unite to controle the winch motor for the hook, and another one that extends and retracts the boom. These 2 differant functions can be carried out by either the radio, or by a 3 way switch on the bed of the tow boddy. but by using the 3 way swtich the speed contole operates at all or nothing speed. but even at that its geared down enough to look real. but if you want to go balls out, you can buy a differant set of hydrolics that use a tripple contole valve, to operate 5 single stage hydrolic cylenders simotainiosly. this little option how ever is going to cost well over a grand.

well, i have a somewhat stock knight hauler, and ford aeromax. i also have a king hauler which i have put alot of modifications into. i have owned it since they were introduced(1994? can't remember). just a few mods are, 2 1/2" streched frame(can't tell how or where), "air ride" cab, its really spring but looks like the real thing when moving, a custom wound 40 T motor, and the one i like alot is the twin cb antennas that i actually have wired to the 4 ch radio, and yes, it does work well without any interference. i also have the tank trailer with a few mods, a pole trailer, a scratch built 38" long flat trailer(all aluminum except the axles) with bulkhead, and a scratch built 36" long box trailer(not even close to being done). i currently have a 36" long race transporter on the work bench.

Hello all. I just purchased the Knight Hauler and was wondering; which ESC should I buy? Also, where can I get a low boy trailer for the Knight Hauler?

Thanks for your help,
Chris

The air ride cab sounds cool. I have a 6 wheeled freightliner coventional cab race truck, made by wedico. it looks european, but still looks cool, if your into race trucks. it will be at the show, with a real jet engen mounted on the back. Its a work in progress but when fineshed will be whiked fast. As the engen will be able to put out 17 lbs of thrust on a truck that wheighs roughly 10 lbs. I will also have 2 of my other rigs there as well. But will not be taking my dump truck, as right now its just a rolling chasis. I want to get a new chasis for it so I can mount all the goodies on it. I'm pretty syched abought the Indy show. more so than the show we had in Pheonix. I geuss its just knowing that there will be more people and more trucks this time around. More idias as to what I should do next. my main truck is set up as a heavy equipment hauler, that as of right now I have no more room to add onto, so I bought a tow truck, it whont be long untill that will be maxed out as well. and after I'm done with this dump truck, I'll be looking for yet another truck to work on.

Man this hobby is addicting :) well I guess thats einough for now I'll see those of you who are going to the show, this weekend. Nate

hi chris. the speed control that i like the best (and i have three trucks all with different speed controls) is an old model futaba with reverse. i cant remember the model #, but i will look it up and post it here later. they don't make it any more, but you can still find brand new ones on ebay for under $50 shipped. devin

found it, the model is a futaba mc210bc. its a great esc that has a replaceable fuse. whichever esc you choose, be sure it has fully proportional REVERSE. it makes driving these trucks much easier.

Thanks wedicotrucker, and devin0824 for the replies and advice. I have another question though. If I get the Multi-Function Control Unit (56511), do I need to purchase the Electrical Unit Set (56501) for the LEDs and wiring harness? Or does the Multi function unit have everything I need, (Lights, wiring, switches, and the like)?

Thanks for your time and help,
Chris

sounds like Devin might be there. But as far as just us at the show, No. According to Ric, there will be some where around 25-30 people attending this show. So if every one brings in 2 or 3 trucks, we'll have around 100 trucks there. Thats why I'm looking so forward to this show, I even quit my job to attend 8) j/k. One of the guys here in AZ will be there with his bulldozer and Printace logging loading truck.

could anyone tell me if there is an entry fee we'll need to pay to bring our trucks (to the indy show) and if there will be any table space for our trucks? i don't know how this sort of thing works. i've never been to one. i used to race r/c cars and the races always had tables for you're own pit. i guess i'll bring one truck and trailer. thanks, devin.

The MFU has everything you need. Just, pick up some extra zip-ties. You are going to need them.

As for entry to the show, I heard rumors about a $5 entry fee. I'm not sure about table space...

Thanks, Josh

I never heard any thing abought an entry fee so I dont know, and looking at the flyer I dont see any thing abought an entry fee, but will try and find out.

As for tables they will be provided by the hotel as will chairs. There will also be a pro grade charging station for charging batteries. But I'm bringing my own charger any way, along with my own tools. I just like using my own stuff when it comes to working on my truck. Nate

As was already said it is everything you need except servos and a battery. It's a steep price to pay but once you see and hear it in action it becomes worth every penny. It really brings the truck to life. Check out Tower Hobbies for this. They had the best deal I could find at the time plus I used the % off coupon they always have on the home page.

Alright! I had a great time meeting some of you guys at the show. Now, I can put all these faces with names. I will most likely be back next year! I'll just have to carefully pack some trailers for next year. I will post some of my 102 pictures when I have time.

Thanks, Josh

Id like to say hello to all the truckers. I have read thru almost all 69 pages and have learned alot about these trucks and have seen some very amazing things. I am seriously thinking about getting the King Hauler or the Mercedies box truck. If I got the box truck Id want to make it 4wd, Is that even possible? I think I read something here about someone doing that but I have read so much stuff I dont remember. I am in Phoenix, Arizona, who else is here in the area? Are there clubs and get togethers? If so I would most likley get out of r/c rock crawling and get into the trucking scene. I just have to be realistic about my purchase, I dont want something that will just sit on my shelf and not get used and Im sure driving it around in front of my house would get old pretty quick.

This is a great thread and ill be checking back often.

Josh, www.rc4wd.com offers a 4 wheel drive tranfer case for tamiya's 3 speed tranny, and you can use the axel from tamiya's tlt-1 to make your rig 4 wheel drive. as far as clubs in AZ there is one club right now, the name is called the AZ Wedico Truckers Club located in Chandler AZ, there is another club in the making with no name as of yet. the AZ Wedico Truckers Club has free membership. all you have to do is say you whant to be a member, and show off your truck. You can see pics of some of the trucks at www.gardentrucking.com/azwedico The owner of Precision Model Distributor is going to put on a show at the "AZ BIG BOYS AND THERE TOYS" expo in june of '06. Just let them know your going to attend and they will arange for you to get free entry. I was there last year, and will also be there this upcoming year as well. As I'm so far in dept with them I have to help set up and tear down to help pay for my stuff :) I am located in Tempe, and this winter I will be redoing my "mini city" in my back yard, as all the rain we had 2 or 3 weeks ago has taken its tole on the lay out. A new and impoved lay out is in the works.

Our club is small right now, only 6 at the moment but once we get going and have a finished place to run I'm sure it will grow. As I know there are more than just 6 people in AZ with trucks, both tamiya and wedico.

Ric from Precision Model's should be back from Indy and ready for buisness on thursday you can give him a call and find more info on it. It looks the same as wedico's dump trailer, only a little wider to work with tamiya.

you gotta be carefull with the ebay stuff for these trucks.there is one seller on there that sells the truck cheaper than say tower hobbies, but add the shipping cost to it and youd have been better off getting it from tower with next day air shipping.

Well shipping for this is 30 bucks and even with that it is still 30 dollars cheaper than tower. I guess thats not much but it does add up. I agree that you have to watch the shipping costs on ebay. There are a couple sellers that are charging over 100 dollars to ship a king hauler and thats just crazy when otehr people have the same truck cheaper and have shipping for only 80. Stella models and must_bid seem to be good sellers and must_bid is located in California but has reserves on every one of his auctions that I have looked at.
