^^ Wish you a lot of luck with that, I went thru it about 3yrs ago. I never passed any stones and had to go thru lithotripsy to break them up. I passed gravel for about 10days after that procedure.

It was closer to 3 weeks before I was up and around. Talk about fun! Get better soon!

haha its a TZ with a slide carb..i think he bought a new carb for the TZ-TX cutz that ones rotary but his came with a pull start..he uses a novarossi header pipe on a trinity header. and he uses a busnell radar. it really is ballistic you guys should try it..for the skilled drivers only though.. :D

wait yeah it was the TZ(p). sorry about that.. and i dont know where he got the pull start. but he uses venom wheels and tires. they hold up fine and grip well. the car is insane.. we drove is yester day and we have a long street..but i live on the corner of the intersection of the street. so theres this little ramp type thing in the middle..it is very slight but he hit it going on second not even full speed and it started flying! like those nitro boats that get airborn..it was soo crazy..we wanted to put some of those foam wings on it and see how far it would go but there are to many variables determining how it would fly..

Just got the 4 tec and man does it haul!!! Broke in the engine and still tuning up the 2 speed and engine for performance. THe 2 speed wasnt shifting and the car wasnt rolling backwards(turned out the set screw backeed out and turnded sideways) 2 hours later it was back on the road. I got every thing running and I was doing test runs to find out if she would shift and I ended up clipping a curb during a spin out and broke the rr hub. no biggie that is a 3 dollar fix lol. How many turns out should the 2 speed set screw be turned. I have to wait till friday to run her again due to ordering parts lol. I am going to get 2 set rear hubs, sway bar, set steering blocks, suspension arms (f,r). I also plan on upgrading to carbon fiber chassis parts later as funds come in.
is there any thing I need to also look into purchasing. I have the 2.5 model
I am deffinately getting a fm radio and a failsafe within a month.
thanks

I really dont know the specs. but if it starts up pinch the fuel line it should take 3 seconds to die. if it takes less richen it and vice versa. if it bogs down on take off it is too rich in the high speed needle and if it is at speed and cuts out it is too lean on the high speed needle. I hope this helps. The car will run way lean but it will burn up so make sure smoke is seen from the pipe.
hope this helps

Is this your first nitro RC car? If so, then the best advice you can get is to go slow! Learn the car and how it handles and responds to you. First upgrade I'd get is a fail safe. If you radio dies, you dont wont this thing taking off at 60+ MPH! As for tires, I'd get some foams for it. They'll grip good and handle turns better. The down side is that they might wear down faster than a rubber slick tire. Have fun and enjoy!

thanx a bunch, just actually picked up some foams today. what a difference, i was able to do stable laps, without spinning out too much. this is my first nitro car but not my first rc car, before this i played wit electrics. on the traxxas website theres a tuned pipe does it already come with one or is that an upgrade. also u got any advice on what fail safe to get and what will be a fair price to pay.

Wuz up all, new to the forum it seems like it's a pretty good one. I need some help, if someone can help me. I have had my 4-tec before about 6 months I have done some upgrades to it, not much as I want but working on that. Now, I just brought a ni-cd receiver pack and I need someone to help me out. I need to know how to install it. My homeboy told me that I had to spice the wires or something like that don't get how to thought. Please help me out if you don't mind.......... Thanks

HPI X Belted radials were what worked for my 2.5 and 12 4-Tec Pro version I raced, don't use the liners that are supplied, buy separate hpi green inner foams. I know it looks like a mismatch 26mm tires and 24mm liners, but its not. This combo ran well and lasted most of the summer running on concrete parking lots. About the worst tires for wear were the venom mangetics.

Other upgrades - a 5 cell Nimh hump pack and a new switch with charging cord - once you get pac installed can charge it in car with new switch. Swaybars and if the CF Pro upgrade kit is still available, its worth the money. Last, better shocks with decent assortment of different spring weights to tune suspension.

Welcome to the forums, btw.

I'll try - hope this was really a NiMh, but as long as its rechargeable......If the rx pac came with a male servo end, you can either cut that off and splice it to the connection the orig 4 cell AA pac was on, red to red, black to black. You won't be able to remove pac hard wired in that way and charging will be a pain. Best way is to replace stock switch with one of these -

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXH462&P=ML

and then everything just plugs in. Now when its time to charge, you just plug your charger into the charge cord and charge it. Welcome to the forums....

360 thanks for the help......... someone told me to cut the end and splice it, but how can I keep the charge part on there.......... is it hard to install that switch you posted for me?

Thanks seem like a good forum

The switch is simple to change - the one I linked is the same size as the stock one. Unscrew the stock switch (from its little plastic box) and then look and see how the stock switch wires are routed. Pull them out and replace with the new switch, re-route the wires and make the connections. I leave the charge cord parked up near the antenna where its convienent to get to when I need to charge.

Believe me, you don't want to cut the end off the rx batt.

Any good links for upgraded springs. I have upgraded the shocks, but the ride height is still too low (7mm back and 8mm front) Rear shocks are almost fully pre loaded already which winds up the spring way too tight. Any ideas to raise the ride height? Shocks mounted on the inner A arm holes and on the lower position on the shock stay.

It's def time for diff springs. This is kind of pricey, they fit, there are springs, 9 pair, from 12lb to 40lbs. Something will work.

Will these springs fit the "Powerline Blue Shocks" that I have upgraded to? Should I not be getting longer shock shafts? How is the spring strength going to incease the ride height? Any answers please........

Duster_360
04-29-2007, 01:28 PM
I have those Powerline shocks also, these springs fit. I run 25lbs on the rear and 30lb on the front, my ride height is 8mm all around for parking lot bashing due to rocks and debris. When I raced mine I would lower ride height to 3 -4 mm, basically as low as I could get it and not be hitting the ground too much.

The springs rate also will impact traction. This is prob the hardest thing to do with a 4-Tec - to make it turn without rolling or flipping. The shock upgrade was essential and there are only 2 you can use - the Powerlines or the TRX Big bores. I went with Powerlines, I liked the colors. I ran 50wt shock oil all around and fooled with 2 hole pistons in front and 3 hole pistons in the rear.

You have to know how to fill shocks so you get equal dampening from all 4 or it will have turning differences due to the diff in shocks. All 4 have to rebound the same.

I used to have a link to a good suspension tuning article - I'll see if I can't find it again, it explained how all this worked, camber, caster, spring rates, dampening, turning, traction etc.

Wayneb
04-30-2007, 02:34 AM
Thanks again, I'm running with the 50 wt oil in all shocks already. Back to the LHS for the springs.
Did you have the same problem with the standard yellow springs that came with the shocks? (or is it just me??)

Duster_360
04-30-2007, 01:15 PM
I had fought with the orig shocks on my 4-Tec Pro (Big Bores) I knew those yellow ones wouldn't work from the get go (soft), I never really messed with them when I set my 2.5 rtr up, I just started with what I had on the Pro spring rate wise.

Wayneb
04-30-2007, 03:04 PM
Problem is the Powerline shocks are 64mm long, top to bottom and the standard shocks are 69mm. There's 5mm ride height gone already.....stock shocks back on the car and ride height is fine, about 9mm front and rear with the one spacer. (the local track is VERY bumpy) VERY dissapointed in the way this turned out........4 new powerline shocks now sitting on the shelf........

OK, I was curious enough to pull one and measure - 68.2mm. Mine are p/n N4T1011. There is usually enough thread to make them longer/shorter few tenths mm one way or the other. I would typically set them up to measure the same by doing that - screwing in or out.

I have not paid that close of attention since my rtr is a basher.

I just purchased a 2.5 4tec with a 3.3 engine in it. I'm mostly into electric (TC4 Drifter), this is my first nitro. I would like to turn it into a speed-runs car where it's just fast and str8. Many people in my area are into that.

What are some tuning setups, and or tips and tricks to squeeze out some more speed/power of the car?

Thanks,
Dennis

Make it lighter. Get rid of the EZ Start and replace it with a pull start. Better tires will help. Just make it as light as you can.

I had the origional Pro .15 4tec and then upgraded to the 2.5R motor. I could have put the 3.3 in it, but knew I could get them same speed out of it. I have radared my 2.5R 4tec hitting mid 70s. Just repeating what was stated above, make it lighter. There is no more ezstart, new tires, new belts, and better servos.

What's the best pipe to get which increases power throughout the whole range?

I'm looking at the traxxas tuned pipe, they claim 20% gaines throughout.. i believe that's pretty good.

Jayweezy , Steve Slayton of traxxas did it about 6 years ago. He got 3rd in the 1/10 US Touring Car Nats running a 4-tech. 6 years ago the 4-tech was a top contender in 1/10 scale but today its a parking lot basher. With alot of time work and money it could be made into a decent club racer but I think you would be better off geting a team magic G4S rtr or a mugen, serpent . The 4-tec chassis design is in need of an update. Would make an excellent drag racing car however.

I just bought a nitro powered Traxxas car off ebay and I was wondering if someone could tell me what particular model it is. I don't know a whole lot about these cars yet, but I think it's some kind of 4-Tec and I have no clue what the size of the engine or anything like that is. ANy help is greatly appreciated. Hey there,

I just bought a new Nitro 4-Tec 3.3. After reading through this thread it seems they have made quite a few improvements over the last couple models. There is still one thing that plagues this car and that is hop-ups. It seems it is even a little worse since all the graphite and some other aftermarket parts were discontinued. Right now my car is mostly stock except:

Futaba 3PKS (Stock radio looks ugly and is a joke. Plus I can use this for all my other present and future RC's)
HPI JTCC Subaru Impreza bodyshell
HPI Venom T-10 Sport Truck bodyshell
Venom Smart Temp Fail Safe
Dubro In-Line Fuel Filter
Sway Bars
0 deg Rear Hub Carriers
Hot Works Replica Brake Disc Hex Adapters
HPI TE37 Volk Replica 5 Spoke Black 26mm 0 Offset Rims X4
HPI WORK XSA 02C 12 Spoke CHROME/BLACK 26mm 3mm Offset Rims X4
HPI Super Drift 26mm Radial A Type Tires X4
Venom Magnetics Hyper Grip 26mm Tires X4

I want to set it up for Drifting mostly and regular driving too. The one part that has no replacments from stock it seems are the shock springs. Are there any hop-up shocks from other touring cars that will work with the N -Tec 3.3 (or just the springs kits)? It would be nice to have a lot of springs to fool around with spring/oil combos. I bought an Integy NT 1/10 Touring Car Setup Station w/ Case and a 13'x17' Setup Board with Built-in Tweak Bar so I could fool around tweaking everything.

These fit my Pro and 2.5 RTR - provides a range in spring weight from 12 to 40lb/in. See no reason they shouldn't fit 3.3.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAZU0&P=7

You should go over to trx and read the 4Tec thread - there were couple how to threads written about the 4Tec (stickied) by a 4Tec racer who knew what he was doing, setups, tuning etc. This was before the 3.3. Since they quit selling the CF kits (I waited 9mos for mine), market's been pretty bare. Only other option is to find an 4Tec Pro thats still in good shape - they came with everything out of the box.

I have a 4 tech and I will like to convert this RC car into a rally car. In other words I want to get more clearance to use it off road. When I bought he car new I thought it was going to be a blast to use it but since I got it I have been replacing a lot of parts because the roads in my area are to rough. It ended up in storage for the past 3 or 4 years and now I want to start using it but for off road use. Do any of you guys know if there is conversion kit for this? I want to get like and inch clearance, more or less/

Thanks in advance.
