Geez look at the price. This car will bring 1/5 scale to the masses if that isn't a typo. Plus, you get a 4(!) horsepower engine.

I doubt thats a typo but look at what the car has. Its just a 1/5 scale car thats set up like a 1/10 scale car. For example it doesn't have the 4 wheel disc brakes like most other, expensive 1/5s have. That probably lowers the cost a lot right there. Plus it looks like its only 2wd. Either way if I can get parts for it I'm considering getting one.

I was at the show today and these things are sweet and yes the "cheap one" is only 2wd but its all upgradeable and its just too cool! only problem is how would I bring it anywhere? the trunk of my camaro is a bit small for it. lol.. hmmm.. I think I need a support trailer. lol..

1st - Disc brakes are only an option on MOST 1/5th scale cars, with the exception of the "competition" kits. My FG was $1595 without disc brakes. Front discs were an additional $200.
2nd - There are only one or two 4wd 1/5th scale sedans, and, as far as I know, only one is available here in the US.
From what I've heard of this Bergonzonni car, it's likely it WILL bring 1/5th scale to the masses. Even thier competitors can't understand how they can sell the car for this price, with the motor that it comes with. 4hp is crazy!
1/5th scale is a blast, they're fast, run for around 45 minutes on a tank, and super durable. Most bodies are very realistic, as is the handling.

Anyone have a link to a site of a company that makes 1/5 bodies?

web page (http://sei-racing.com)
SEI is the importer for FG Modellsports, probably the most well known of all the 1/5th scale cars. I've got the McLaren F1 GTR body on mine, and just bought an Opel Astra DTM body.
I would advise you to buy a car kit with the body you really want, because the bodies aren't cheap enough to "try out". The Opel body I just purchased was $244 with stickers. I'm sure the prices will go down when demand increases over here, though.
If you end up getting a car and ordering a body, the initial price they give you isn't right. $159 buys the main shell, then $29.99 for the nose, 19.99 for the wing, 19.99 for the headlight/tailight/emblem stickers, and $39.99 for the sponsor stickers. You may get a little break on a package deal, as I did, but it's still hard to swallow after paying $22 for 1/10th scale bodies.
Changing to bodies with different wheelbases require you to change the chassis, and a number of other parts, which can cost upwards of $400 including the body.
Most of the standard sedan bodies are interchangable, such as the Accord, Mercedes CLK, Opel Astra, and a few others.

OMG. Scratch 1/5 for now then until I get a better job. :( That $150 will last about 5 minutes with my skills.

Don't get me wrong, I want tons more people to get in to 1/5th scale, but you should be aware of the expenses. Just get the body you want up front.
The advantages are that the cars will run at over 50 mph right out of the box, and do it for nearly 45 minutes on a tank of gas. Tires last much, much longer than 1/10th scale tires, the parts are obviously much more durable, and the cars are very realistic in the way they handle.
As far as the bodies go, it's easy to scratch them, but they are very strong and resistant to breakage, much thicker than 1/10th scale polycarbonate. If the nose becomes damaged, you can replace them seperately.

im thinking about geting one... once i get a job(im15) ill look into it a bit more.
i just think it would be fun becuse thier fast BIG and look so cool!
i would get a porsche 911 GT-2 if anything :)
what car would you recomned for a first time 1/5 driver?(not new to 1/10 and 1/8 nitro at all)i need something cheap but that performs well.
would 2wd be ok or should i look for a 4wd car?
thanks!

OIC the point of having sections now-thats a really good idea. I think having a 1/5 scale car would be so awesome. People love when they see my 1/10 running so just think the response to something twice as big. I just wish these 1/5 companies would have better sites that listed prices and better descriptions and stuff like that so I could get a good idea of what this would cost.

I didn't say that the car doesn't come with a body, I'm pretty sure it does. By the description above, I notice it says "Body Decals".
Just make sure the kit you buy has the body you want, because buying them after-the-fact is very expensive.

Am I correct that these things run on a gas/oil mix designed for chainsaws and weedeaters instead of Nitro? If so man I think I just found something to put rebuilding my T-Maxx on hold. What kind of parts support is there? Do you have to go on-line or to the manufacture to get replacement parts? My LHS deals a lot in Dirt ovals in larger scales so large foam tires might not be that hard for me to get. But the other parts may be tough to find.
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry -
Parts support is ok, but mail order is about the only way to get 'em right now, unless you live near a hobby shop that sells the cars.
Yes, the cars run on a gas/oil mix, just like a weedeater or chainsaw, which makes operation very inexpensive. I get about 4 hours of running off $2.00 worth of gas and oil.
Back to the parts thing. You'd be amazed at the durability of these cars, I've had my car for nearly two years and have yet to break any parts.
that is such a nice looking car. i cant believe the price. are you sure that there shoudn't be a 9 instead of the 4???

This is an entry level car, though it'll probably be fairly competetive on the local level. I just watched one of my best friends hand a factory driver his ***, and he was running a 6 year old FG Sportline kit (my buddy, not the factory guy).
We just ran an endurance race at a new track located in Battle Ground, WA, and I tell ya', these cars are incredible. Most lap times were on par with nitro sedan, which amazed everyone. The open layout of the track had much to do with this, but it gives you an idea of how fast these cars can be. There was only one guy in nitro sedan that ran one lap faster than the fastest 1/5th scale lap.
I think we should see the price of these cars coming down a bit in the near future, some already have. It would be great if standard kits sold for under $900, and fully optioned kits were under $1500.

1/4/02 Hey guys, I called the technokit distributer in Florida today and he said the kit in the new radio control mag IS a typo, it's not 499 its $1,599.00!!!!
Does anyone know where I can get my meat claws on that Bergonzoni Phaze One 1/5-scale? and how can the rollong chasis cost 499, and a complete body $150+? Is this a typo deal also?
Harm 1/5 scale starts at $1,250, and is available here in NCarolina.
Help me find the $499 1/5 scale!

Snake Eater,
Do you know if there is anything out there in the same price range as the phaze one? I have emailed blackhawk and he said the phaze one is no longer made and then told me he is selling a brave 2 for 799.99.
