Thats a great idea, I really want one of those. Up here, we get huge piles of snow on my lawn, and thatd be really cool to race up the piles. Doesnt it also accept electric motors and batteries?

They should have included a rider...

How are u soppose to tune the engine.

Is it just me or are those wires awfully close to that belt??? Surely they could have made some kind of cover for that, all I see is that wire getting chewed up by that belt. I think I worry too much....
Otherwise that thing is way too cool.

Its not fair, we only get snow where I am at once every other year! I would love to be able to have and run something like that. :)

How do you start that thing??? Cant bump start it and I dont see a pull start on it. Maybe you push the tread on the ground/snow real fast till the engine starts??? :p :D

If you look closely at the second picture from the bottom you can see the pull start tucked in the back of the motor. It looks like it would be real tough to get at the low speed mixture needle on most slide carbs! :(

They said street price on the sled would be $350 minus engine, pipe, radio, etc. It also has no brakes but the guy at the booth assured my boyfriend (who is a dealer) that they "stop OK". Personally, it's going to cost me $600 to get the sled up and running with an OK .21 and a Futaba Mag Jr. Radio... and I'm not game for a .21 with no brakes...

hmm. that thing needs a picco sport or a RGX. I would say to put one of the 2.7 horse RB concept engines but how would you start it.

I was talking to them today. They said in the near future they are going to make a guy and a girl rider. Then shortly after that they are going to make the handlebars move when you turn the wheel, and have the persons arms move so it looks like he is steering. Very cool. It comes in green, yellow, red, blue, and clear for your own paint job. It is completely water tight. Did I mention they are going to make an electric conversion too?! oops...

hhmm...hydroplaning accross lakes? they also said there are gonna be wheels that are kinda like rollerblade wheels so you can ride in the street. they are probably gonna make a "steet" belt for it that does not have the teeth on it. i think you can use a non pull engine in that. if you looks closly you can see a hole in the chassis for bump starter or starter box access. if it was for pullstart engines only i would think that they would put a smaller flywheel on there too.

poopie, it is water tight. there are no holes in the chassis for a starter box.

Brakes, what are those?

Watertight??.... Maybe water resistant. There are at least 5 holes visible (2 for steering linkage, 2 for shock mounts, 1 for exhaust pipe)

Look at the design of that pipe. Can we say torque? Too bad it doesn't snow down here. Maybe if I move to Boston, I'll get one.

I heard somewhere that you will be able to get wheels for the front instead of the skis and then use it where there is no snow.

I'd get one but we haven't had a bad (well depends on point of view :)) winter here in quite a few years. The only thing about it thats dumb is the fact that it has no brakes. I bet you could make some though. Just get a brass band and some cork and make one of those brakes that grip the clutch bell to stop it - sort of like what they use on the Bolink nitro pan cars.

Don't quote me! I asked if its water tight so theres absolutely no way water can get in and they said "Right. Water tight, you dont have to worry about any electronics buring from the water."

My reply: ...

that is the job my max st played last winter, jetting across the 15 foot snow drifts that seem to grow here in winter, too bad i'm not made of money or i'd have that forsure, batteries and cold temperatures dont mix to well tho, that is all i have to say :)

It took enuf time, They should came out with something better than that. But dont get me wrong its still sweet. There should be a deeper lug track,Wider Ski's, and of course the shocks look like something out of radio shack(heehee). They should be oil filled. I am sure some one else will come along and make a better one.

I'm totally stoked for this... it's snows like crazy here.

couple things i don't like:

>the body. (it looks too much like a '70s sled)

>the shocks look LAME!!!

>the way that plastic SNAPS in the cold.

i feel i'll be goin' through alot of parts

one of the RCCA "readers rides" was a sled. it looks SO cool. really FAST looking. all streamlined.

Here is the website to visit. They have video online from a commercial shoot they did up in Alaska a few months back. Handled cold weather just fine. www.nitroelements.com
Looks slick. :) :) :)

That thing looks like a ton of fun. It looks to have the body styling of the 70's Ski-Doos, but with the newer 90's front suspension set up of the Yamahas and Ski-Doos. They also did a great job with the engine/belt set up. It is practically identical to a full size snowmobile. As for the wires getting in the way, a simple piece of aluminum to go over the belt would work fine, just like they use on a normal snowmobile to stock the belt from blowing apart and going through the hood. Very good attention to detail on the track and rear suspension too. If they come out with an electric version, I'd pick one up in a second.

About the braking, they could probably put a disc brake on the pully for the track. Just set it up like the RC10GT/NXT race trucks. Run another wire from the throttle servo and bam, you got brakes. Also, the sled would slow down pretty well from the weight of the track and friction from the snow, just like a real sled.

From the pics, it would seem really easy to make an electric version. You could have the seat pop off and put a 6 or 7 cell pack underneath it, then swap the engine for a motor and mount an ESC right where the fuel tank is. Man, imagine the take off with a good mod motor and twin battery packs on that thing! Put a rubber slick track and wheeled skiis and run it on asphalt like they do in the summer with the real sleds.

How many people are intrested in these now that they have hit the stores? If there is enough intrest I am going to make some parts for them.

What up Clod Killer!! Greg #1 from Otown.

I think these things are pretty kewl. The steering links look a little small to me, but I like lots of beef on all my components. lol. I think they would be pretty sweet to get one and fart around with it. We get lots of snow here in MI, so we gotta do something in the off season.

Just another RC for me to break every 2 tanks!!!!!!!

i hope u can use a bumpstarter cause a high power engine would we a great advantage for a snowmobile. i can hear and ofna 0-1 purring in the background

You could bump start it if you cut out the chassis where it has the pocket molded for the flywheel to sit.

Hey whats up Greg.

So anyone have one of these yet? We have a couple at the shop, but we haven't ran them. We have just built one. They look pretty cool, and I can't wait to see what they can do. Any feedback would be cool.

I think the shocks are oil. No, I haven't run one yet, and probably never will, I live in Hawaii. One thing I don't like is the fuel tank, it doesen't have a flip top. I really hope the wheels are out soon.

Here are some answers for you :)

The kit shocks are oil filled and made by Associated, nuff said.

The plastic used has actually been engineered for use at low temps, it will not become brittle! In fact, at room temp it is rather flexable but stiffens as it gets cold. Shouldn't have to worry about it!

Motor, most motors will bolt to the stock mounts and an optional mounts are to be available from the manufacturer to fit all popular motors. The flywheel that comes with the kit allows bump starting once you trim the chassis for clearance.

Nope, no brakes. No snow here in certral Wisconsin yet  so can't comment much. I can say however that the rolling friction from the track should make it slow rather quickly. A brake option is said to be in the works.

Fuel tank, I have one of the first kits made and it came with a Sullivan airplane style tank, not the one shown in the picture at the beginning of this thread. I spoke to Brian (Mr. NitroElements) he stated that the fuel tank has been a sore spot for him since the beginning and he is working on a fix that I am sure everyone will be happy with.

I have had my sled for about a month now and have determined that this machine should work fantastic on smooth tracks, for drags and ovals it will work great, the design allows for a good amount of weight transfer offering maximum traction on those surfaces. For those who want to run on the rougher stuff or the snow-covered off-road course may want to check out www.JPEHobbies.com is working on a long travel suspension kit for the rear (and later the front) that will allow those big jumps to be handled with 2-1/2 inches of true verticle travel! It is a carbon/aluminum affair that is waiting snow for testing. Although it is in prototype form right now it should be a pretty quick step into production once it is torture tested! Sorry, no pictures available until it goes into production!!!!!!!!!!!!

JPE is also working on male/female rider figures with removable/changable suits, light weight replacement parts including several styles of hoods! These items will be available ONLY from www.JPEHobbies.com !!!

I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about these sleds

Due to a large amount of Emails I have posted a picture of of my prototype long-travel rear suspension at my web-site: www.jpehobbies.com

Take a look and tell me what you think :)

I have several ideas for future products, what would YOU like to see for aftermarket parts for these machines?
