Well, when you press a button, the beep is now blue as well. Plus, blue backlit... which means you'll be able to outdrive Kinwald now. :)

Don't talk it down too much, guys. I myself don't like M8s at all, but this isn't exactly "low" for Airtronics to do. This isn't supposed to be a radio you "upgrade" to from your other M8, but if you're buying a new FM radio anyway, it's a cool alternative. That's all.

just like the turbo 35 to turbo 35 bl,
no difference except that backlight, no one really cares.... its just something "new" :)
edit: oh, and now the soon to come turbo 35bl stealth... :D

Why is this any different than the KO Mars limited edition?? Who stooped lower, who cares? For those that want increased battery drain, buy the backlit M8. Personally I would be happy with just the black buttons and trim.

Come yall. I know that you like to dwell on the bad things, since the good points of products cancel themselves out, but can you at least not go fully postal? I mean if you put a synthesized TX module in the transmitter the thing would cost more than the new Tamiya TXT-1. Geez, yall act like a bunch of spoiled babies sometimes.
Jeep, you slipped a naughty word past the filters...

Since when is synthesized a bad word ?
I don't care about cost !
At $30+ a pair, any sane cost will be a complete bargin. $100 extra ? no problem. $200 extra still no problem.
Give me synthesis or give me death !
If you are going to come out with a "new and improved" model, you may as well make it new and improved, right ?

Wouldn't that make it in violation of some FCC rule though?

Skip, At least the Mars Limited changed the feel of the radio by dropping the wheel down, & if I'm not mistaken, (I'm not shure though) they bumped the model memory to 12. Not that it matters to me either, but do those count as big changes? Maybe when Massami figures out something else he can use they'll change em again. Personally I don't see anything wrong with offering something different, even if it's only cosmetic. A lot of manufacturers do similar things as a marketing teqnique for a reason...it draws new attention to a long established product.
Btw, is Steve still on for next week at Dirt Co?

Bumped model memory to 20 on the Mars limited.

Backlit !! YEAH YOU BEAUTY!!!!!!!!! Now when I muck around at night I may not be able to see my car but I will be able to see the purty lights on my transmitter :D
Price is a bit of a bummer, thats like NZ$1200
Our dollar is so weak........

Railman I agree with you... I mean who wouldn't love to have a blue anodized wheel and a blue anodized top strap on their M8 like Kinwald has? These don't do much but look good and we've had tons of requests for them.

Uh guys, the price posted is the retail, not shelf price.
Jeep I was referring to "mofo."
Personally I would have liked to see the blue case from the limited Blazer on the limited M8. I don't like the white wheel though - it shows dirt too easily.
That'd be awesome to see some ano parts, Raul. Are you considering making some?

Anyone know if the backlighting can be toggled off? The M8 is a bit of a battery hog as it is. Looks cool though.... No doubt.

I'm one of those nut cases that would prefer an M8 Limited over a standard issue M8, even if it'll cost me a bit more. Problem is, I can't find them any more, with one exception.
Airtronics list a part number AIR90290 - which is described as "3 Channel Computer Pistol Grip with Back Light, Transmitter W/RF Module, Dry Battery." Anyone know what this is? Airtronics' web site doesn't list this specific model number, and it doesn't match the item number given at the beginning of this thread. Anyone a guru?
I've heard rumors that Airtronics will release a Limited with the Novak module included, but haven't found anything to verify that. Maybe this is it...
Thanks for any help-

i think the last time they had the backlit edition it was the same price as the regular m8 only i dont think they made the regular m8s during that time period cause tower only sold the limited edition.
The L.E. Did cost more than the M8, Which is why I went with the M8, not the L.E.
Joel - I heard the same rumor, was it from you at trackside? :p

Not sure if you heard the same rumor from me, but that's where I heard it as well. Perhaps Trackside is just a big rumor mill?
I'm calling Airtronics today to see what the deal is. I called and talked to Scotty about it Sunday, he had also heard that they were at least going to introduce an M8 that included the Novak module, and that it was supposed to me a new "Limited" model.
Amazing how a guy can go almost two years and not spend a dime on R/C, but now my laundry list is a mile long.

Well, I knew that they planned on putting out a model with the Switch, But I haven't seen any part numbers. I would assume they are waiting for the new M8, version III or whatever. I e-mailed someone at Airtronics a couple months ago, but he never responded. :(
I didn't hear anything about a "limited" untill someone at trackside was talking about it. I cant remember who it was, but it wasnt anyone who worked there... They probably just heard it same as me. ?

Well, after some researching and hassling numerous folks, I've found out at least something about the "new" backlit M8's. They're coming, and I was told by Airtronics that they'll be available by the end of this month.
Item # 90290 appears to be an M8, with a backlit display and transmitter module - nothing else. Airtronics has this for sale on their Shopatron site for $280.
Item#90291 is the new backlit M8, which will include Novak's Switch module and a receiver. They don't specifically say Novak's receiver, so I'm guessing that they'll include one of their own. Of course this one is not on the Shopatron site, is the one I want, and I have no idea how much it will be.
I hate to say it, but it defies description how hard it was to get more than a two line reply from Airtronics via e-mail.
Troy, did you run this weekend at Trackside? How'd you do? I may try to get up and spectate Sunday.

They should have one # with both the Switch/XXtra, I'm almost positive I saw this at Chicago..
I ended up placing first in the D-main of stock for the USTC race. I should have qual'ed better, but I'm still happy with the run in the main.

1. Is the M8 VIII it or is there a totally redesigned M8 in the works?
2. Is there a performance difference between the Limited Edition M8 and the new VIII?
Thanks.

Well, I give it about a month before every shop with a lathe starts churning out anodized buttons and switches for our transmitters. Apparently, we're not spending enough money on batteries, motors, tires, etc. Hey, like the saying goes, "If you can't come up with something new, modify what already exists." I think I'll do just fine with my plain old ugly silver buttons, thank you very much. If it doesn't make you faster, why do it?

Why do they paint cars other colors than black? I say that colors make no difference in the car's speed, therefore, every car should go back to the model-T black.
Oh, and yeah, thats major sarcasm. :D

Troy-
Hey, everyone could be like Paul L. and just paint the car white. Seems to work for him.
I broke down and acquired an M8 w/ the Novak stuff from an online source. I'm just too far from Scotty's to do my shopping there unless I'm racing. Just got my new batteries in the mail today and hopefully I'll be up at Scotty's racing soon. Get up there and get myself schooled really quick. Haven't raced in anger for almost two years now. My last battery purchase was for 2000s...
What's everone run up there for tires in touring car? Off-road? (Do you run off-road even?)
I really wished that I lived closer to Milwaukee...

Touring Tires: Sorex 28 or Take off CS-27
Did you get the M8 stuff from KT? ;)
I've been to trackside once since the novak. Too busy.
I do not race offroad.

Didn't buy from KT. I've seen the site, do you have something to do with them? I really like buying from Scotty, but it's getting so hard to get up there to buy. Tell me why I should buy from KT, maybe you'll talk me into it.
I hear you on the too busy thing. Between work and EMT classes, I don't have much time to do anything not family oriented. Not complaining, but... I do have all of that expensive R/C stuff just sitting there.
Roscoe. Darn near lived there until we decided not to rent and bought the house we're in now.

the last pic was taken by my friend stationed in Yakota Japan! he's my overseas hook-up! lol! i wont really know anymore info on it till i get it! if anyone knows of any other diffs between this version, and the older one...please lmk! the wait is unbearable!!
VIII has a faster proccessor, for faster responce. Other than that, I do not think there are any differences.
Joel - I was just curious. I know Kraig has put together combo's for people who wanted the crystal-less, but can't get the "real" airtronics combo. I race with Kraig, he's a cool guy, and I buy from him usually over the summer. I also buy stuff from Scotty while I'm racing up there. Scotty is also one of the coolest guys I've met.. He would give the shirt off his back so that someone could race...
