Looks like CVD drive shafts front and back, and covered electronics. VERY NICE!!!! I wonder about the price but otherwise it looks likes something to sit next to my T-MAXX.

The Duratrax THUNDER QUAKE has a 2 speed Forward/Revers Tranny, 21 engine, and plenty of hopups. But I must admit this KYOSHO truck does look nice

Man, jeeze, could that think look anymore like a tmaxx. I got two things to say, first off they better not discontinue the USA1 for the trash if it comes out and second is it looks like tyco had some imput from the shiny plastic parts

looks like it was designed to copy a tmaxx, not compete

Guys, Kysoho had the first reversing nitro tranny and a Monster truck long before Traxxas did.. so I would think neither copied.
Did GM copy Ford or just see the need to produce a marketable item??

good designs generally get coppied one way or another, but nobody seems to point it out as much as This one probably will be called a T-maxx copy.
for instance, Lots of 2wd racing buggies take their basic design from the original RC-10 and its derivatives, everyone enjoys the progress though.
Then there's those touring cars, there are so many different belt-driven 4wd TC's, they all look the same to me. . .
So kyosho took some basic design cues from Traxxas, and put its own spin on it, variety and competition is good.

T-maxx had the first Working & reliable reverse nitro truck...
Yes they werent the first ones... but they were the first ones that accually worked.

Who cares?? It's very cool, anyway. I say, "the more the merrier"!! Bring 'em on, let the fun begin. Competition improves the breed.
Thanks for doing this Steve!!! I love being able to see new stuff this way, this is GREAT!!! :D :D :D

LOL!
If you can't beat'm, join'm!
Last time I drove a QRC vehicle, it didn't have brakes. A .21 with no brakes....but you can see the disc and linkage coming off the servo horn.
I wonder what these guys were thinking when they decided to put the rear turnbuckles in front of the suspension arms...
I also noticed that the fuel tank (in the second pic) hangs over the rear of the chassis and the rear turnbuckle.
I'm wondering about weight balance. Engine is mounted in the middle of the chassis, and the fuel tank and batteries are on teh same side. Servos are pretty much in the middle, but there's nothing on the other side but a pipe. Body is waaay too small. I see the cool glow plug adapter to allow you to start it with the body on.

First off, That body is waaaaayyyy ugly! it doesnt even fit right. Now that can be taken care of easily though. Second, it looksVERY high centered if you intend to take corners with any type of speed. But that too, can be fixed. I will be interested to see the tests on this truck. Now, as i sign off i will go ahead and throw in a descreet cough cough maxx copy cough cough.

Steve, come on, make up your mind! Look in your first post, then your comment on the .21 engine. It appears to me that you were just as confused as the rest of us, trying to distinguish a T-Maxx between the 'Megaforce'.
Bleh on that body!

If they gave it a body that did fit it would make it look that much more like a Maxx
ATeam
Likes: .21 engine! Rugged construction and steel dogbones definately add the strength. Cool body with Jugg. look alike tires. Full ball bearings and electric start, as well as covered electronics.
Dislikes: White servos, eww :p Cheezy looking a-arms. High ground clearance will lessen handling ability.
Overall: Looks like the T-Maxx has some competition! Very nice although I would prefer the body lower to cover the chassis components better.

I bet this thing is gonna be expensive. IMHO all Kyosho stuff is way over priced for what you get. My first RC was the Wild Dodge Ram, QRC with the .11 engine. That truck was anything but wild, well maybe wildly overpriced.

I don't think they're CVDs, I think they are steel dogbones that should hold up pretty well to a .21 engine. Did I say .21 engine?! :D

All I can say is that a .21 or not it sure does look an awful lot like a T-Maxx. I sure hope that MTs don't start looking like clones. Even though the T-Maxx works real well I would hope that other manufactures would be trying to improve the design rather then clone it. At least they put clod sized tires on it. And the .21 is a real plus too. If I didn't already own a T-Maxx it might be worth looking at.

i will agree that it looks alot like a tmaxx. however, with a monster truck, you can always try something new and revolutionary, however i think traxxas found a formula that worked.
and just so everyone knows, it has a .15 engine with an electric start, ala tmaxx. i think steve was hinting of sticking a .21 in it.
my personal opinion is that yes its a kyosho tmaxx, they just took many of their designs or parts of the tmaxx. the bottom braces and skids, and used the same formula. i am actually surpised that they didnt go with a .21 and maybe changed somethings. but it will probably sell.

Also, it does look a lot like a T-Maxx, however, it will probably utilize most if not all of the T-Maxx hop-ups. It's not a bad idea, at least they don't have to worry about releasing a truck and making hop-ups for it at the same time. Why not just build a truck that you can use T-Maxx tires, wheels, etc. etc. on?

at least its not a monsterized buggy! and aso i think most of kyoshos stuff isnt too good thre above duratraxx but below everyhing else thi is whative foundrunnign alot of kyosho stuff its just not reliable and the quality dosnt look as good as the tmaxx. and now pillow balls eather!

Looks awesome. :D Although by the sounds and looks of it it would probably be more than the T-MAXX, but that allright it looks better than the T-MAXX although I don't like the body that much.

Heres my input after seeing it at the show. CHEEZE EEEEE Man I tried to pick it up by the bumper and actually heard a pop sound I dont think that the bumper will last very long. The susp arms are very short and on the display model at least the right rear shock springs rubbed against each oter. I didnt spend much time looking at this truck. Sorry to sound negative but if your going to copy a design try and make it as good as the design you're copying. my 2 cents

Its kyosho trying to copy a t-maxx but I think they didnt make. First of all if they wanted to make a truck better than the t-maxx they should have putten on a .21 engine and second it should have been wider with out reverse because it creates problems and it should have been with 2 speeds. Ahhh nothing compares to a t-maxx.

Sure it looks like a copy of the T-Maxx, and if Associated was making it, it wouldn't be slammed by so many people as a "copy".
Being a Huge Kyosho fan, i'm glad to see it. Looks like i'll be selling my T-Maxx and Buying one of these! :p

I am the last one to bash something I haven't tried, and I am trying to make an honest effort not to throw around biased statements that have no basis in fact. That being said----- Did they use the same tooling as traxxas???????????????
I'm all for using some proven elements in something new you are building, but it looks to me like the only design tool they used was a copier.
Of course I could be wrong (it has hapened once or twice before) and this could be the best thing since sliced bread. If so I respectfully retract all the previous comments.
p.s. someone find an instruction manual and tell me if it says traxxas in fine print

Corn-ball name: Mega-Space-Astroforce... :o
Construction looks cheezy. They should have at least developed a better truck since they used the Traxxas as a template! Maybe they're targeting this truck as a step-up from a Radio shack R/C car...

But I been wanting a Maxx truck but prices are really bad here even for cheap constructed trucks like the traxxas. Atleast I can get part when I need them and not cost a arm and a leg getting them shipped to me.

does the thing even have a 2speed?? i've seen the advertizments in the jan issue of rcca they don't even mention it. most companies wpuld make that the headline of the ad. i think kyosho is a really good company. but they are pushing it here that has gotta be one of the biggest copies in the r/c industry. next to the reflex

Those shiny-sparkling bumpers look like they'll shaTTer upon first impact.
What's up with those tires and rims?
They look like chocolate doughnuts with a quarter stuff'd in the middle! The rim size is too small. I like the way rim dimensions of the ThunderQuake.

The only chance this will beat the T-MAXX is if it has a lower price. If you can't sleep at night knowing you have a Kyosho "T-MAXX" then put your T-MAXX (We know you have one:D  ) body on and you won't notce a difference:p ;) :) :D

WOW, that's cool that so many ppl hate this truck. That means it has great discount-shelf potential :p But seriously if Kyosho is smart they will introduce this truck for at LEAST $100 less RTR then the t-maxx. IF they were smart, it looks fast, tippy, and fragile to me. Kyosho, it looks like you succesfully dug your own grave

PureTMaxx
01-05-2002, 08:05 PM
I understand why they would start with a .15 in it...if you race, then the .15 class will have the most monster trucks to compete with. It will also make the parts last longer as we all know what a good .21 can do to a Maxx (diffs, axels, tranny etc.). As for the resemblence of the Maxx....just like all of the early buggies would compare to an RC10...the Maxx will most likely be the comparison model in the monster truck class for some time. Competition is good, but even Losi did not duplicate the RC10 that close. I am curious to see the performance though...hard to judge by just a picture. The EK4 video is very cool, but I kept waiting for a decent size jump....RCCA...see if you can put some airtime in the .mpg on this one.

PureT-Maxx, sadly, its speed/acceleration, and handling will be worse than the T-Maxx. It has no 2-speed, so the acceleration suffers, as does top speed. The arms are actually shorter than a T-Maxxes(The MF has 2.6 inch long arms, while the T-Maxx has about 5.2), so, it will not handle aswell. That is too bad.
The Terra Crusher looks to be a great truck. Jumps well, longer arms, etc... It will be a great truck.

from what I hear about this truck, you can set it up to have forward and brakes OR forward and reverse, not all 3... not cool
well this is a little off-topic but it really sucks that i cant use the brake and reverse simultaneously. have to choose if i want to have brakes or reverse  its not fun going 25mph and just roll till you stop!!! after i set it up to use the brake the gears in the ******* touché-starter ***** up! and the glowplug stops working. oh and, heh, this is a bit off topic because i have the baja beetle, but the megaforce(MUAHAHAHAHAH!) looks like the same truck with bigger tires on it(UGLY ones.) clod-style rules in my opinion. just cant fit them on my baja(too short arms. from the super-ten TOURINGcars damnit!!) i guess they save money that way  "MEGAFORCE" (even the name sounds like the people at KYOSHO dont have any imagination at all!) just sounds crappy to me, like some crappy superhero cartoon! :D

 You guys are dead wrong. I just got this truck off eBay for $300. When the hop-ups come out this will be a good truck. It will have a 2-speed, 4 wheel steering, and maybe a bigger engine. I emailed the company myself. With a 3-channel radio you can have forward, brakes, and reverse. Read up on it some : http://teamrcv.com/article.php?sid=133

K-Maxx? Kyosho-Maxx? Copy-Maxx?
I believe every MFG now has a MT, their answer to the T-Maxx. Gotta keep up with sales ya know!
I own a T-Maxx and i have to say i'm dissapointed. Although its a great idea and it obviously sells, it just ain't up to par.
Still haven't seen a MFG put one out on the market that is JUST right.
When is Traxxas gonna get off their butts and rebirth a Maxx that can handle what the consumer gives it?
Kyosho, nice truck and it gives the consumers ANOTHER choice. I guess thats good for RC.

If Tamiya keeps the price competitive with the T maxx I think Tamiya will have a winner. It seems like every gas car or truck Tamiya ever released in the past has been of a higher price than its competitors.
But if the Thunder Quake had a tug o war contest with a Monster Pirate which would win Hmmmm?:D
