View Full Version : Some observations on assembling the MP

I have slowly been assembling my Monster Pirate. A little bit here, and a little bit there.

First, I had never assembled shocks from scratch before. The directions you get with the MP are of course, not for the MP. But instead for some other Ofna buggy. Well, the shocks come with 2 spacers and no idea how they are suposed to be assembled, so I put both spacers together. I later found out it's "o-ring/spacer/o-ring/spacer"........ so anyone who needs to assemble their shocks still, this is a heads up.

Second, with the wheels on, I could see the suspension arms were not assembled "equally". They are supposed to have a 2.5mm gap in the front arms, and mine were 3mm and 2mm. So I had to take them off and correct them.

Third, adding servos to the radio plate, you really need to remove the radio plate from the chassis to get the screw retainers on there. No biggie, just 3 screws hoild the plate onto the chassis.

Fourth, looking at the piece of silicone hose to connect the tuned muffler to the header, I was like " no way" this is going to stretch over thet muffler. Well, yup it did. It was a struggle, but it did it. Also, streching the spring that holds the header pipe on the engine, get yourself a very small needle nose plier or else be prepared to rip some skin off your fingers.

Fifth, I had to remove the fuel tank to add the fuel tubing to it, because I installed the tuned muffler first, and there was no way I could get into the port to stick the tubing on, so the tank had to come off. Add your fuel tubing before you add the muffler assembly.

Finally, I don't know how big your workspace is, but mine is pretty small. I have a set of regular 1/8 buggy wheels/tires, and I installed them onto the MP chassis while working on it. Makes it a lot easier to work on in a small area, without those huge meats bumping into everything.

OK, so then I have the servos installed, the muffler, the air filter, and the wheels/tires assembled. I have the body mounts installed, and the suspension arms properly adjusted. It's starting to look like something viable now. :D
