 LRP or Novak:confused: That is the question.
I am putting together an L3O and am stumped on what esc. I have heard both good and bad about them. I will be running a stock 27 turn motor probably all the time. I think I will get a green machine 3 pro but not sure if you could help me on that I would be thankful to.

all esc's from both manufacturers will get your car running, its the differences and price that you should take into consideration, as to if they will benifit you :)

Who cares if it's made in America? I'm sorry, but I hate that excuse. It's like a qualification for buying something not quite as good as another product, and if not, why say it? America makes a lot of good sh*t, but if you're going for the best, it shouldn't be a consideration.
Read all the posts here about Novack, like people have said. They have the most kickass service department hands down, but every other story is about, "my esc blew up, and they replaced it!" Do you want to buy one, only for them to replace it several times?
Do a quick check on the LRP 7.1, or the SR if you're sure you're going to stick with stock--lots of people will swear by it. The Quantum seems to have problems for sure, so stay away.
It's just that I'd put my first priority at getting an esc that won't fry, THEN worry about service and support. ;)

I personally would pick the LRP F1 Pro Reverse.. As far as I can see, its the Cheapest ESC that has REVERSE AND NO MOTOR LIMIT ($99). I just looked for the features that I wanted, and the F1 Pro Reverse just happened to have them for the cheapest price!

LRP v7.1 over the cyclone

I have been told by numerous people that the LRP 7.1 is NOT a great STOCK motor ESC. It lacks punch. It is great for mods though. I couldn't decide which either, LRP or Novak, till I heard all this(I run mostly Stock, but want the best and ability to run any mod). I was even told by many, that if I was set on LRP, to get the older model, the 6.0(?), that it was better for stock motors. For some reason, the 7.1 just isn't there for stockers. I have heard it atleast 20 times, and NOT in a thread, but by people who have used or owned both.

Thats why the SR version exist... "Stock Racing";)

correct, the only thing is, some of us want both in one ESC, that is why I, for one, am going with a Cyclone2. But I can say this, I have raced with a 7.1, with stock motors, and unless you are very serious racer, you will prolly never tell it is a little flat.

MRGreen,
I didn't mean to be annoyingly patriotic by proclaiming that Novak is american made. Its just that LRP (or Associated) always seem to make clear that LRP is made in Germany. Following your rationale, they too are guilty of trying to sell something based on where its made.
to the rest,
The TC2 has worked beautifully with both stock and mods for me. This to me is a good selling point compared to trying to decide between the 7.1 and the SR.

maxximus,
Yea, you're right. LRP shouldn't be bragging about being German, but I actually haven't seen either company tout their nationality much. It all seems rather silly to me, no matter who is doing it.
I'd say go with the Cyclone, if performance is your highest priority. It all depends on what your priorities are, and how much abuse you are going to give it. Or you could just choose your favorite color....

My Opinion-
I've had both the atom and cyclone and say they are very solid ESCs. I have had one gripe about them though, I HAVE WENT THROUGH 3 OF EACH! Not to diss novak but I have had horrible luck with them. No I am not a newbie and hook up 8378.36 cells with a .003 turn motor, I follow the instructions and by everyone's recollection, have done nothing wrong. Their customer support office is unbeleivable, they replaced all of my ESC's without a hassle (i have heard the same about LRP as well). The only thing that i find weird is that ive gone through 6 of their ESC's.
On to LRP, I just got an LRP v7.1 with which I race both stock and mod with in my B3. It is an UNBELEIVABLE peice of work. Mod-Perfect, everything I asked for and more. Stock-Not intended for it but to be honest I can't tell the difference one bit. Very punchy and responsive. A more expirienced person might find it to be flat as was stated above but I cannot tell the difference (I race mod more anyways). Overall a genuine top-of-the-line speedo.
Novak is great but 6 dead speedos is a bit ridiculous. LRP has yet to show me a flaw and I am very satisfied with it. I guess what you should pick is the speedo which will suit you the most If you race mod I say LRP, If you race stock or both get the Novak. If you can't decide after that, pick you favorite color,BLUE or ORANGE. My favorite color is blue, go figure. :)

I have had my LRP V 7.1 for just about a year now and it has performed perfectly. I race both stock and mod truck and I am just a fast in stock as any other racer out there. It is just as punchy as any other ESC. It has plenty of punch and is a good ESC for stock too. It is a very smooth ESC. I have not had one problem with it. My son has the LRP V 6.0 in his truck and it too has performed perfectly.

my self, i like novak and LRP, i like the blue stuff better. I like novak becuase theres are programable (if you spend $100 for a computer to prg it with).
The only draw back i see with the cyclone is THE GIGANTIC CAPACITOR!
i just sold my lrp v6 for $90 and am going to buy a brand spankin' new LRP V7.1

That's not fair. You have to compare cars that are at least in the same class. On behalf of America I present the Corvette, and as backup the Viper. Now which would you rather have?

Orange Power BABY!!
I have been using V7.1 since last year and found out it is flawless.
But the Reactor i used was a different story. From the Reactor's instruction manual it states it can handle 12T motor, but...iin the real world it couldn't even handle a 17T motor (geared mild) so disappointed.....Never EAT orange again..

the novak reactor that i use on my stampede runs a 14 turn motor without breaking a sweat. get novak to send you a new one CCK, yours is defective.

I was not trying to be mean or anything i was just trying to think outside the box and compare German Made and American made in a different type of situation. I would still take a Z3 over a Viper or a Corvette. Sorry if I offended anyone.

ok from what i have read in this thread, i have collected this info:
LRP is german made Novak Is American, im all for american made but, AE is in on it too and the have the american flag stamped all over there stuff so what?
Novak ESC's seem to have a better chance at being defective then LRP's.
Both are great. Many people havent had flaws with LRP's and some the same with novak.
Blue or Orange? Guess it depends if your a AE guy (like me) it has to be blue, if losi or other most likely Orange.
Both companys know what they are doing. But honestly from what i have read about LRP and Novak from this thread, LRP's have very little problems perform well bla bla bla, same for Novak but more novaks have been faulty.
I personally have owned a tekin rebel (didnt like), 1 LRP V6 (just sold it to buy a V7.1 so that tells you they got my buisness), and one novak (went to lrp after it).
Novak has been around longer so they should be more popular, but have you noticed how many LRP people have been popping over over the last 3 years....
Mavrick is right you know , if you look at most race results in RCCA i seem to see more and more LRP speedos on the top 10 and less novak , i know it depends were the races were being held , but the results don't lie , and i've own both LRP and novak speedos and they seems equal to me , except that the LRP seems to be better built, German quality control are way better than the american ones , sorry but novak seems to fail more than LRP , i know they got great support , but i think Novak should be very afraid of LRP quality , if i plan to buy a new speed control let me assure you that it will be an LRP , unless novak release it"s new brushless motor system before i make my move !

The one fact that has been neglected to be said about the SR is that, like it's brothers 7.1 and Quantum Competion none of them have a motor limit. So with the SR you have the stock punch with mod capability. If I cant have a LRP make it a GM V12.
By the way, I have a cyclone :(

They look cool but,
1. I don't speaken z deutch(german)
2. I don't want to make any more overseas calls to people that don't speak english
3. If you don't call them you won't know were to get them.
Seriously they look pretty cool, I could handle the deutch mark conversion too.
If you find out more let me know.
I already have anLRP, GM, and a BMW. They make good stuff in deutchland(Germany).

so umm...how big is that cap that sticks out in the novak cyclones c2 and tc2?
mavrick0611
10-19-2001, 06:20 AM
bought half the size of the speedo. I find it really funny that novak shows the ESC without the cap connected. Makes ya think that if they showed that would they sell so many to novice racers and such....
