Hi all,
I have several RC vehicles but the only MT I've owned is a T-Maxx... which is tons of fun when it's not broken,... and it's always broken.
Most of my stuff is nitro but I want something electric to take camping with me next summer and what could be better than a monster truck?!
I REALLY want a TXT 1 but I'd like to spend a little less than $400 (truck) $120 (good ESC) $80 (2 good motors) - $600 is a little steep for the intended purpose.
I'm not particular about whether the truck is a "pure" MT straight axle truck or one with independant suspension... I want the most fun basher for reasonable bucks.
I plan to con my wife into getting me the truck for Christmas so I'd better get cracking on this so I have ample "convincing" time LOL
I'm open to any suggestions
thanks
Jay

not sure if they still make it, butI have always been a fan of the clod buster, big and fun and shouldn't be all that expensive.

If you like to build then use the Clodbuster not only is it bullet proof but if you use the manual speed controller then you can float it and run it in water , I ran it in salt water in Hawaii the engines froze but I fixed that with WD40 .This is well within your budget evevn with a ESC.
IF you dont have time then go RTR E-Maxx this is in your budget and is nothing like the T-Maxx as electric is so effortless to have fun with ,if you do get it you will make you wonder why the T- is in your collection never the less there all good cars but I would go E-Maxx cause I've been assembling since the birth of the BIG WIG back in 1987 remember that MR. Big WIG huh?.
Good luck camping and stay out of Northern California they have the plague up there right now.

Thanks for the replies!
Floyd Negrete,
ahhhh the ol' Big Wig! I raced mine 2 to 3 times a week for a couple of years and I did pretty good ;) I used to race once or twice a week on an oval or single dogleg course in a roller rink... very fast. Then, on Sunday I raced in the dirt. That was probably in '87 - '88 ... great fun!
As far as the Clod, I thought that might be a good choice. Now if I get one, is the Clod good fun when stock or is it very limited? I ask because I know that Clod owners usually have some serious $$$ in hop ups. Also, if I got a Clod an rat it stock for awhile but then decided to make it better, could I get it anywhere near the performance of the TXT 1 or is it waaaay off?
Does anyone have any Clodbuster pics to show me?
thanks
Jay

As far as fun ,Clod Buster is all of that and a bag of chips if you have a Super Rooster ESC and a couple of quality 14 turn motors(Reedy) your Clod will be an allout monster capable of top Sumo Wrestling any car in the land, if you want to out crawl the TXT well then get the Ripper chasis from Thunder Tech Racing it's better than my Clodzilla ,better than JPS Pro Chasis it is the best after market Clod kit to date(it is the newest).
These should help you out.
www.teamassosiated.com -for the Reedy motors
www.teamnovak.com - for the ESC Super Rooster
Thunder Tech Racing (815) 467-0621 it's in IL.(they make the Ripper Kit)
Batteries -Go for the Panasonic 3000mah NIMH 7 cell this alone will be like a Vortech x trim supercharger.
Good luck and thanks for bringing back some good memories,I still have my Big Wig .
E-mail me Big Wig and I'll send you some pics of my 14 year collection!, Maybe I'll change my name to Grasshopper, or Pro Radiant or some classic car?

It's rcmt.net not rcmt.com
I have a Clod. I ran it stock for a while then I slowly bought hop ups. I currently use a Clodzilla 4.
The first upgrades I recommend are gearbox mounted servos and good shocks.

I have taken my clod camping numerous times. I think it depends on what you plan to do with it though. Mine is fairly stock. It has full bearings (well worth the cost), stock mabuchi 540 can motors (not fast, but lots of run time), a futaba radio w/ESC, a Thunder Tech rear steering lock out and front servo mount. Keeping the 540 can motors instead of runnning "faster motors" not only gives the truck good run time it also makes the gearboxes (if bearings are used) darn near bomb-proof. Mine have not had to be taken apart for anything except routine maintenance for the past 11 years. So if you are just looking for a FUN truck to take with you the CLOD would be a good choice. If you want something with lots of speed and race winning potential you may want to look at something like the E-MAXX. The clod would need lots of $$$$ match the E-MAXX on a race course, but I believe for just bashing around it would out last E-MAXX. Just my 2 cents worth.
