Hey guys, I havent been around for a while, all this military stuff you know. Anyway, I just picked up an Emaxx, and I am really impressed so far!! My question is this: Is the gearbox supposed to be really loud like it is? (in 1st gear) or is something wrong? I am used to my racing vehicles (XXX,T3,TC3,XX4, etc) with very smooth trannies. This is my first "Monster" truck and the first time I have seen one run, so I am unsure about it.
Another question: Out of the box, what are some of the things I need to do to my Emaxx before I run it again? ie tighten this, adjust that?....

Thanks from a Monster Truck newbie.:D

Check the set screws in the gears on the motors. Loosen the slipper A little.:p :p

Glue tires. Thats in the directions though.

The EMAXX comes stock with only 6 slipper pegs. There are 12 holes where slipper pegs can go. One guy recommended I add the remaining 6 pegs right off the bat. I didn't do it :), but just passing on what someone told me.

On my second run, the plastic shocks came apart squirting oil all on the insides. Messy. If you just bought the EMAXX (between Sept 1 and now), be sure to take advantage of the Traxxas promo and get the aluminum shock upgrades. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

As far as gear noise, the EMAXX does seem a bit on the loud side. Mine is significantly louder than your average stadium truck or buggy. I guessing its due to the additional gear reduction required for monster trucks, the 2 speed tranny, and/or the steel bevel diff gear.

1. Use silicone (locktite attacks and cracks abs resin plastic type stuff) on all the suspension screws.
2. Set the body on the lowest post setting, it will withstand rolling longer and unless your tricking it out it wont need the extra air to stay cool .
3.Like it he said glue the tires of course, if you can't ride a wheelie a full block something is wrong.
4. Use at least 2400 rated batteries (I use two Super Roosters 9 cells, can you say Zooooooom!:D ).
5.Be sure to trade in the VX12 for the Novak EVX .
6. Dont be to hard on it even though it seems you are King of the LAND!, it will be easier for your check book.
7. Don't buy aluminium rims they will slow you down, a Madd Maxx wheel kit =Clod rims (plastic**, Proline Bear Claw tires will help your dominator ego.

Thanks Guys,
I did the standard gluing the tires and checking all the screws and linkages etc, I should have said that though. As for the gearbox, thanks for the info, I will put it to good use. The Big Bore shock offer would be great, but I bought it brand new off ebay (through an R/C shop) but I don't think I qualify for the offer Am I wrong?

you need to have a reciept for it, otherwise you don't qualify!

Its because of two reasons that is so loud, one you have two motors, therefor two pinions to worry about having the right mesh, thats one reason, two, you have a two speed in there, and it has a spool which activates it (there is like a 1 inch delay before activated) that creates tons of noise, and you might need more grease in the tranny, and make sure you put a bit of diff grease on the pinion/spur gear, you have a protective cover so dirt wont matter, but things will quite down significantly!

hey, the E-Maxx comes with 32 pitch gears in the tranny, standard 48 pitch gears would strip in a hot second. These extra chunky gears are noisy and durable. It isnt the slipper, or how many pegs, any truck with 32P gears is gonna be noisy!its that or CRAKKKKXKKXKKKX of stripping standard gears;)
