OK, guys-
I've never been great at painting bodies, which led to me not know much about lexan. How can I take paint off a lexan body so that I can re-paint it? I know certain things will take the paint off, such as fingernail polish remover, carburetor cleaner(!), etc., but I don't know if any of them will mar the clearness of the body material. I'll bet many of us have this question in our minds. Anyone?

1/Long wait in Brake fluid seems to be the universal solution .... but nasty for any kind of human contact ... Use it carefully please

2/ ... demake-up also does the job but requires a lot of cotton and working outside (odor ="ouuch") ...

Here you can see result of the 2nd method :

Note : Brake fluid method probably made it better but I didn't know the tip yet .... ;o)

Brake fluid, huh? How do I thoroughly remove the brake fluid from the lexan to re-paint? Just plain-ol soapy warm water?

That's the pb !
Full Water is the sole remedy ...
AND It's not ecological at all (something to consider) ...

Note than Demake-up has also neuronal effects if really breathed ... And, it's long work ...

We're talking about bad things ....

Others ideas welcomed !!

"Full Water"? What the heck is that? And, what does "That's the pb !" mean? And, is "De-makeup" another name for nail polish remover? This has been confusing. Speak english, man!

I painted a body a while back and didn't like how it turned out. I heard about trying brake fluid so I tried it out. You have to pour the brake fluid in, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and it will still take quite a bit of scrubbing with a toothbrush, but it WILL come off. As long as you don't let it sit for hours, it won't fog the body. Once you're done, wash it with warm soapy water and rinse it out really good and dry it. good luck! It's a lot of work! Matt

The best solution, sad to say, is buy a new body. Every time I've tried to strip one, it's been a miserable job and the body looked worse then if I just left it for a basher, mistakes and all.

Boy- now I'm really confused- and you didn't even explain the other stuff I asked about! Guys, did I say anything offensive to Popup? No. I just asked him to tell me what he meant by those phrases. I still don't know what "Full Water" or "De-makeup" is, or what the phrase "That's the pb !" means. Anybody know? Anyways, thanks for the tips. I can't spring for a new body, so I'll have to re-do this one.

Matt:

Did you ever find a satisfactory way to remove the old paint?

I'm trying to repaint an old Kyosho Optima body in the original (on the box) colors, therefore I can't just go out and buy a new one.

I'm willing to try anymethod so long as the clouding is kept to a minimum.

Kyle

Nice to see, you've got it !

Brake fluid is a top level method (do not contact)
Else, Nail polish is a way with active work (do not breathe)

That's all

Send me pics of it when repackaged !
