what's up everyone? just have a few questions/comments: i just got my first touring car, the team kit tc3, yeah! that **** is dope! i got it on saturday and stayed up until 6 in the morning building it. now, after a total of about 15 hours, i'm just starting to make all of the semi-final adjustments. anyhew, this is the first on road car i ever owned and i just wanted to know if there's anything i should be careful about-obviously you can jump this, and that's not what i intend to do. i want to race it! i would think it would vary on what type of classes these cars are raced in depending on where you race, but can someone give some sort of idea as i will be running on 2500mah batts along with a peak 17 turn motor and hitec gear. isn't it the battery and the motor that determines what you class you run? i would think they would have some sort of stock and then maybe an unlimited modified or something like that. also, what kind of speed should i anticipate...i would think at least mid 20's or low 30's with my set up(motor and batt decribed above). oh, one more q: both of my front shocks have only have about 1/16 of travel at the most! i wouldn't expect them to bounce like the off road car shocks but is that normal? i got pics and will share them when i upload them. well, there you go. any responses would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
james
p.s. i'm a super supportive, die-hard losi fan and i must say that i really like the associated tc3, they did an excellent job. i would think that this would be a better buy than the street weapon because for the same price you get everything practically the same except better parts, clearer instructions, and, of course, the nice composite drive shaft(along with other parts). get the tc3!

yea you are correct. With a 17 turn mod, you would be racing in mod sedan. The speeds are around the low 30s, and the shocks seem correct. im happy to see you got an TC3, they are awesome!

I recently got my Team TC3 also. I haven't yet had a chance to get to a track and race but I did get to run it in a clean parking lot. I'm so impressed with the handling with the initial setup that I intend to leave it with that setup for several races. Then I'll start "tweaking " it. This car is nothing like back when I raced 1/12 scale. It's so incredibly driveable. I'm running a Green Machine3 with 2400 ni-cads right now and performance is good enough that I see no need to put in my 14 turn modified.
My advice is to set it up by the book with a good stock motor. Go out and really learn to drive it 100% as is. Then start the modifications.

Hey James. Just curious. Oceanside Calif?

10-23-2001, 10:16 PM
yea, i agree with setting it up, but get some new tires for it first. Even though you think its hooked up, just wait until you get to the races. You need new tires definatly, the v-rages are crap.

Thanks RC10T3. I realize each track has it own tire "needs".
I'm not looking for the trickest tire available. Just an all around decent choice for a slick and inserts. Any suggestions? I've never raced on road on rubber tires before so this is all new to me. In fact after a 15 year absence from road cars everything is new to me again.

Yea, I run the 7 dollar Yokomo Sprints, with Medium insets on Yokomo dish or split y rims. these tires last me about 10 race weekends, and only cost 40 bucks for the tires, inserts, and rims. These will provide awesome traction, the only thing better would be the sorex tires, but they cost more. Start out with the Yokomo Sprints with medium yokomo inserts.

Great! Thanks for the tip. I'll probably pick up a set tomorrow. They're a ton cheaper than Pro-lines.
Now I'm really pushing it with the questions but I promise I'll stop soon. Belted and non-belted tires. What are some situations where one would be better than the other?
RC10T3
10-23-2001, 11:02 PM
well, I only use belted tires, becuase it helps keep them from expanding while accelerating, and keeps them from squirming under hard cornering. Why anyone would run non-belted tires is unknown to me :-)
And its not prob, i love helping people out :-)
Also, if your gonna choose a different body, i got a few suggestions:
Neutral: Stratus
Front Downforce:Audi A4, BMW M3
Rear Downforce: Accord 4 door, Alfa 156.

oh yea, pick up a bottle of Zip Free, its a traction compound. put it on before the race day, scuff your tires right before the race, and it will increase your traction throughout the weekend. If you dont care about tire life, but it on before every race :-)

thanks! yeah, i made some mistakes earlier...in my first post i said you can jump this car and the battery would be 2500mah. what i meant was that i wasn't going to jump this car(not that it isn't possible)but race, and that my batt will be 2400mah. yeah, i think that's all right! here are some more pics...

for some reason it won't let me post more than one pic at a time-and yes, i have done this before! well, here's another picture. this one is of the rear of the car. the car, at present, has about 20 hours invested into it since saturday! that may not be like a lot to you guys but it's almost too much for me-about 5 hours a day so far! it's all worth it. however, it's not even close to being finished. if any of you people are perfectionists, too, you know my pain! anyhew, here's another one!
RC10T3

its lookin real good. It pays off, spending so much time building one, at the race track. You will know that nothing is binding or anything, and you know how to rebuild your car after a crash.

10-24-2001, 04:29 PM
wow thats a lot of time!!! it took my about 8 hours to put mine together and tune it for carpet. it went together really easily, except for those tiny hex screws that the kit uses, i stripped a few. the best part of all though, NO BELTS. i am a perfectionist too, but not as much you.

are solid shafts better than belts? is that just opinion or fact? thanks a lot for all that have replied, it's appreciated! i will post more as i get more done. i haven't been to too many races before (like half of one!)so if someone could tell me a little more or point out a web page were i could get some info i would like that a lot! yeah, but anyway, my stuff always looks good and it always runs good-that's what i think and that's what others have told me!

Hey James. Thanks tons for all the tips. Being from San Diego county you know it sucks around here now for places to race. It's really hard to believe there are no more off road tracks here. Thats why I'm getting rid of all of my off road vehicles and going TC. I was planning to try out the new track at Lake Perris but have you been to the track at the Costco area in Vista? It would be a lot closer for me even from Fallbrook. Just wondering if it's a decent place to go to get back into the groove again.

dude, i have no idea. the only race(s) that i have seen have been at hobby town usa in vista or costa mesa(i can't remember which). they are pretty competitive! i think they race there every other saturday and they just had one last weekend, so there won't be another one for 10 days. you pay $10 to race and if you win, you get your money back and that's it! but it's all for fun and i enjoy watching them race. i think they have 16 classes. they start at 8 in the morning and go until around noon(i think). that's where i plan to race at first. it's pretty expensive, though, but it's really cool! i wish i knew where other race tracks were(if there are any). well, once again, here's another pic. i just like showing it, plus, before i bought mine, i wish i could have known what it would have looked like more extensively. please post more if you know more on tracks in our area!

I understand there is an indoor carpet track in El Cajon but that is about the only other track I know of in the county. Except of course the Hobby Town track.

what kind of electronics are gonna go into it???
i got a novak tc2, Jr XR3, P2k for stock, Fury 12x2 for mod. i need a good servo now and some good batteries.

i know 2400mah cells, novak esc, hitec tx and rx(all fm). that's all the brand names but none of the specifics. any other ideas except for motor is greatly appreciated!

I run a Novak Cyclone (purple label), a Futaba Magnum JR (all i could afford 5 years ago), B&T 2400's and 3000's, and JR Racing 4131 servo. This baby is so precise on centering, its awesome. And the 90oz of torque helps too :-)
I love my setup, but i would get an FM radio if i did it again. I also run Banshee motors :-)

10-27-2001, 01:06 AM
Yeah, I went to Hobby People apparently after someone cleaned them out. The only thing I could get a set of 4 in were HPI belted slicks for cool weather. I also got a set of soft molded inserts. Right now I probably couldn't tell the difference between a good tire and a bad one so these should be okay for now. If I wasn't so beat after work tonight I was going to go to the Friday night races at the Escondido Hobby People/ movie theater parking lot.
I guess it will have to wait until next week now.

yea, im gonna try and race my tc3 in mod class this sunday, and see how it goes. After this, its the indoor season. Its gonna be 45 degrees at the track, so I dont know what im gonna do traction wise.....LOL

Well, everyone else is doing it, so here's my TC3. Well, that's what it used to look like. I went back to the graphite tub chassis, and finally got a decent esc.
http://hometown.aol.com/upfromtheskies/tc3-1.jpg
I have been running the ProLine cap tires (they are sold as "Assembled Tires") and they work great. The track is prepared ashpalt (www.linvillehobbies.com)I run the 28mm tires. I use the green compound mostly, but they yellows work well too. They just don't last long.
RC10T3
10-27-2001, 12:31 PM
why did you go back to the graphite tub chassis? That one looks so awesome :-)
I have never heard of yellow compound, what are they? i only know rubber shore numbers, and foam tires colors.....sorry :-)

the tub is probibly firmer and doesnt tweak as bad am i right?

yea, thats what I have heard, i was being funny....lol
although IRS released chassis braces for it now, thats supposed to make it as stiff and resistant to flexing as the tub chassis.

sick sick! that's a pretty dope set up! but what's up with stealin' my ****? i think you like my car a little too much if you keep posting pics of it over and over. see, i'm allowed to. why? because it's mine! you're not. there's not anything to be jealous of-as far as i can see, your car is about as tricked as they come...but not for long...

Hey Jeepinator! I noticed that you have an FM frequency controlling your beautiful car. Your TC3 looks about the same as mine, except i got a PCM radio and foams. I run on carpet so that's why i got foams, but you need a PCM radio! I've never had a glitch w/ mine. I can even turn off my radio before I turn my car off. Which type of surface do you run your car on? I was wondering if I should put heavier shock oil in the shocks. I run 60 wt. in the front and 50 wt. in the rear.

is it too much effort for you to add the "u" at the end of "yo"? i don't know why you quoted that because i didn't say that weak ****-you did! oh, and thanks for trying to correct me...obviously you didn't understand where i was coming from. and yes, i did notice the pics where nice and brighter, so much props to jeepinator. so, if you don't understand the full measure to which something is implied, than don't post anything concerning it.

"you" there ,happy now? lol
so, if you don't understand the full measure to which something is implied
why dont you clarify it for me then.
from what ive read you made it sound as if jeep was trying to steal your pics
oside_james
10-28-2001, 05:23 PM
exactly, why would he steal my pics with his tricked out tc3? that's what i was implying. maybe you could read my post over and over again and then you could analyze it and tell me all that you get from it. i was just giving him a hard time. ****, chill out. if i felt as if you needed to elaborate on what i said then i would have asked you to, but did i? no! so why are you even here trying to post replies to something that doesn't even concern you? do you have a tc3? well, if so, post something on it. i'm trying not to argue with this too much but when retards make stupid comments about stuff that doesn't even concern them it pisses me off...is that clear enough? would you like me to give you a more in-depth dissection about what i said? if so, just let me know.

not much has been done to the car. all that has happened is that i've installed rpm ball cups, the hitec high torque, metal gear servo (can't think of the # right now...hs-?????) and a long heat sink from associated. i got both the cups and heat sink on ebay for a grand total of $16 with shipping. i only saved like $3, though. oh, and i got the body. it's not too crazy but the car does look dope! well, at least i think so...
