If you don't match you have let's say a red sock and one blue sock. Is that what you are asking?

Bull, from my FAQ:
[5.6] What is the advantage of a "matched pack"?
A matched pack is a battery pack where all of the cells are grouped according to voltage, run time, and other factors. These cells are the cream of the crop, often having higher voltages than regular packs. In a normal pack, the cells do not run out of power at the same time. One cell will run out first, then another, then another, resulting in a long, slow decrease of power. In a matched pack, all of the cells run out of power at the same time. Therefore, you gain maximum power for the greatest amount time. For diehard racers, matched packs are a must. For the average R/Cer, matched packs offer no advantage of regular packs.

Obi, we are going to need to work on your FAQ. Like you said in your email to me, this thing has awesome scalability, and potential to become THE RC FAQ. To not shoot for that goal would be a waste and counter to my original goal.
I just need your explicit permission to manipulate, edit, add, modify, etc your work.
I am going to have someone write me a submission form for my website so others can submit Q&A pairs. The submission will be reviewed for redundancy, accuracy, etc and then added to the FAQ.
Does this sound like something you would like to help on Obi ?
BTW, Sorry for being OT !
Of course, I'd love to help with it. And yes, you have permission manipulate, edit, add, modify, etc my work.

Bullfrog, you don't really have to charge matched packs a certain way. Unless the sticker on the cell says to charge it at a certain rate. But you don't really have too. I charge all my matched packs on my Piranha peak charger and I can't charge my packs at a certain rate. The pack will get used to your charge and discharge habits as long and you do the same thing every time.

"Whats the difference between matched packs and unmatched packs?"
I would say about $50.00, or more...
JK... The posts above this one pretty much explained it all

Great info from everyone so far.
What I have noticed, the difference between the matched and unmatched packs is about 3 seconds of run time.
The matched packs are much more expensive than unmatched packs.
But if you feel you have to give into the hype and get matched packs, check into batteries from www.integy.com (http://www.integy.com) as they are probably one of the most cost effective matched batteries. Beware of Integy's numbers though as they only rate their batteries on a 20 amp discharge rather than the 30 amp standard of the rest of the industry, so you really can't compare numbers with any other company's batteries.
just my two cents...
