Don't they have setup advice for the impact on mytsn.com? I would try there....I'm still waiting for my impact to arrive. I should be getting them(2 4wd) this friday :D . Does anyone know what other cars would race with the impact? What about the Tamiya TGR or the HPI Super Nitro? I'm curious if the 235mm class is a dying breed or if I should stick with the 200mm class.

Thanks for the advise. Checked the site and heaps of information.
I found out about the local club and it seems in Australia. The 235mm class is growing in populaity, but I can only run 4WD at club level and state and national level only allows 2WD.
It would seem that because of the cost, skills required to run them and noise(but thats why we buy them isn't it!!!) of the 1/8th scale. People are not running them or buying them here.
Thanks for your advie and keep us updated on how you go.
There a sensational car.

I ordered a 4wd Impact and I'll have it on Monday. I'm very exited to get this car! I plan to devote a lot of my time to learning to set up and maintain this car. I live pretty close to a great track that holds plenty of races with a 1/10, 4wd "outlaw" class and I plan to do a lot of racing there.
I'll be buying a Paris modified Novarossi for it but I'm looking for pipe and header suggestions.
Also, if anyone has tips for me before I start to build it, I'd appreciate the input.
Thanks!
Jay

How fast can you get a Impact going?

I haven't driven one yet, but I'd guess if it had an insane engine, probably around 65-70mph

I got my Impact! I thumbed through the instructions and I must say I have never seen instructions this nice! Awesome color CAD drawings throughout. They seem very thorough too.
The chassis is a fine peice of machining but a little deburring would have been nice... I can take care of that.
I can't wait to start buildng :D :D :D

Picco .15KSR in a Serpent Impact M2
Hey folks! I ned your help!
I just finished assembling a brand new Serpent Impact M2 car. After assembling my centax clutch onto my Picco .15KSR engine, I attempted to install it into the car only to find that it will not fit. The pinion gears and spur gears will not Line up properly. In fact, I can not get the engine to lay down in the mounting spots with the centax clutch on the engine. It is like when the clutch is on the engine it is too big for the engine mounting area. Some time During the assembly of the car, I misplaced the original centax clutch kit that came with the car so I bought a new one by team magic. I then thought that perhaps this was the problem (incompatible clutch) leading to the engine not being able to fit. I then decided to go to a serpent dealer and buy a brand new Serpent Centax clutch that originally came with the car when I bought it. I went to ACE HOBBIES in Burlingame ,CA and spoke to Kevin who is very knowledgeable about nitro cars. He told me that a new serpent centax clutch would not fix my problem and that the problem was with the Picco engine. He stated that Picco makes there big block .15's slightly bigger than the traditional big block novarossi engine and that Picco does this because they want the engine to fit only their car kits. Meaning Picco .15 engines for Picco 1/10th (235mm) scale cars only. He said that if I was set on using the .15KSR I would either have to get special motor mount screws made or dremel my chassis in order to slide the engine back further. It would need to slide back approx. 1/8th inch order for the gears to line up and the chassis motor mounts screw holes. I must tell you I left the hobby shop very discouraged. I do have another engine (Novarossi CX15) that mounts into the car perfectly but I was really set on using the .15KSR that was modified by Paris Racing several months ago. When I did compare my Novarossi CX.15 to the Picco .15KSR I did notice that the case is slightly bigger length wise. I am really hoping that you guys can tell me I have another alternative to hacking my chassis up with a dremel or endless searching for some make believe special screws in order to get this engine to fit. I have included a couple of pictures so that you can see that there is not enough room to mount the engine with the clutch on it. Must I use a picco centax or what the hell should I do?? Would using Picco engine mounts fix the line up problem?
Please help me.

I don't know enough about the Impact to say if there's a way to get the Picco engine in the car. I do know the Serpent cars are designed with the Nova Mega engines in mind, which are also made by Novarossi. I would try the Novarossi engine to see if it fits any better. It may be just what you need.

Thanks for the reply SteveP. Like I stated in my first thread, I all ready know that my Novarossi based engines will fit. I also have a Novarossi CX.15. It fits perfect!! But the Picco Engine is a much more powerful engine and its has Modifications done by Ron Paris himself. I just hate for a $270.00 engine to sit on the side line that can never be used because it can't be mounted. Just wanted to know for sure that there is absolutely nothing that I can do before I sell it or hack up my chassis to make it fit. :(

03-16-2002, 01:05 AM
There's always eBay. :D
I can't imagine there's not some way to get it into the car. Maybe it takes some "massaging," but I don't think grinding the engine mounting holes and extra 1/8-inch is that big a deal. The chassis is going to look like hell in a while anyway, so I wouldn't worry about keeping it pretty now. :D Best of luck.

I ahve a 4Wd Impact that I bought about a year ago only to find out that there is no place that race them around here. I considered selling it for a while, but I like the car so much that I just can't bring myself to selling it. Therefore, I have now cone up with a new, devilish plan: I want to produce a speed demon car out of it. Please give me input on how to put a .21 engine in the car (also what.21 should I go for?) What pipe would be a good fit? I have swapped out all the pulleys for the hardened pulleys you can find on ebay, now I need an engine, pipe and whatever parts I need to fit it in the impact. Then I will borrow a lasergun and find out what beast I have created. Any input on project speed would be appreciated.

EASY TO DO FIRST THING YOU KNOW THERES KNOW ROTARY CARB HIGH HORSEPOWER ENGINES AS FAR 21'S ARE CONCERN SO PUTTING LINKAGE IS THE PROBLY BUT PRO ARE MADE TO BE SOLVED THIS IS WHAT I DID. I TURNED THE GAS TANK SIDE WAYS SO THAT THE LINKAGE WOULD WORK . YES YOU HAVE TO CUT THAT SKINNY BRACE NEXT TO THE GAS TANK WHICH DOES'NT BRACE NOTHING BUT I MADE A BRACE TO GO OVER THE GAS TANK BUT I DID'NT NEED IT BECAUSE THE CAR STILL WENT STRAIT AS A ARROW SO IT UP TO YOU IT YOU WANT TO REPLACE IT . GET SOME OFNA BIG BLOCK MOUNTS OR SOME SERPANT 21 MOUNTS AND READY . I HAVE A IMPACK W/ A RB C-4 THAT RIPS. I'M POSTING PICTURE OF IT NEXT WEEK FMOLZER SO I'LL EMAIL IT TO YOU AS SOON I DO. Well Geomaxx, the super nitro isnt really a 1/10th or a 1/8 vehicles...its sorta a 1/9th... Also they only run them in Super nitro classes..and other tracks just dont race em.lol. THe tamiya tgr how ever is a very good racer. Just depends on who's driving it and will make the car win. I mean sure you can make the super nitro hit 60-70mph, but its gonna take some upgrades though, and its best to rather buy a 235mm nitro instead. My track races onroad nitro and elec 1/10th(200mm and 235mm) and 1/8. I think they are bringing other classes like 1/12th scale...My track is pretty big to be running them small cars, but who cares..it would be cool seeing them little cars scream by doin 50-60mph

Do any of you know where to mail-order tires? I had been getting my tires locally but they stopped dealing with that distributor. Any idea where to order them online? I tried Bruckner, but whoever answered the phone sounded like a little kid, and she had no idea what I was talking about. Plus, their website is terrible, so I can't find anything there either.
I have been running Ellegis, but I tried some Arrows and liked them too, so either brand will work.

Have any of you guys bought an Impact M2 recently? From what I hear, there is no WC/02 Impact box set.. if you buy a 2000spec Impact right now, it's supposed to include the extra WC/02 upgrades for free (kinda like what they did with the Veteq 02).. just wanted to verify this with someone who's bought an Impact recently.

Vance,
Love it. I just started getting into the project. I love the body you threw on the car too. did you think it was easier to move the fuel tank as opposed to making a custom linkage to reach the carb? Love that car. Have you checked it for speed yet?

Howde,
I just got a serpent impact spec 99 4wd. I hope to find what is the differences between the newest impact vs 99 spec impact. I can't tell the differences at all.
If there is any differences, can I update my impact to the newest spec etc. 2002? :D
Anyway, I will try to spend more time trying to learn navigating this monster. I'm a newbie:cool: .
BTW, Racepark 106 in Penbroke, NH is the closes track to me. Anyone race there?
I don't have a picture for now. Once I got the bodies paint, I will take a picture and post it here. :p
Thanks

There aren't many differences. The most noticable is how the chassis is laid out. There are minor geometry changes, but all the major parts (at least all the ones you break most) are the same. I wouldn't worry about updating your car. I'm running a 99 spec car right now, and I have no problem running with the newer cars. My worst finish is second so far this season, and I'm running an OS .15RX engine against all those RB's and Mega's.

New to this bulletin board! My son is 15 and races an Impact in the Southwest Championship Series here in Texas. This is a series in its 24th year of competition. Four classes race, 12TC, .15 2WD, .15 4WD, and 4WD 8th scale. We usually have a minimum of 80 entries with as many as 100. Our next race in at the Texas Motorspeedway in Ft Worth, TX.
I usually go to the Serpent website for info on our cars and equipment, but I found this site recently because I was interested in selling some equipment to cover cost of a new Vector NT.

Hey guys I jsut bought a serpent impact m2 off of ebay, it's my first serpent but definately not my first car. I saw one in person (held it) and man was it beatiful I knew I had to have it. I am going to primarily use it to beat the pants off of my buddies, but eventually race. Whats the best(hot) setup for all out speed in these cars, I have an rb 5 port 12 ill out onit for a while until i can afford a motor. I'm still witing for the car to arrive anyway.
by the way I have:
Nitro TC3 TEAM w/ RB 5port turbo& MT12(roar legal for when i wany to actually use the car in a realistic manner)
Ofna MBX r2 w/ os 21 rz-V01b(good servos engine etc on a durable sorta cheap car)
TC3 factory team(pzk...novak spd cntls..all the goodies)
winter toy
Losi xxx-s(same
winter back up
Pan car AE 12l (same)
when i think i can drive i drive this
And of course my new serpent (one of these days, if it ever shows up)
I have had about a zillion cars and trucks and am a mechanic by trade(acura) so all my stuff runs good and fast I'm not a newbie, just quiet. anyway what does everyone run on these things!thanks!

Unless im reading your post wrong you wish to put a 5 port .12 in. You might be suprised to find out it won't fit (its too small), you need a big block 15. They're made by rb (x-15), nova(cx15, tx15), picco(heard that these don't fit the serpents but I'm not sure), nova mega(same as nova slightly different porting). O.S. also makes a .15rx (NOT the .15cvr).

08-06-2002, 05:40 PM
I understand the fitment on the car, to a degree. My real question is whats the difference between the big block 15's and a 21 size engine, for example a NOVA (serpent) bb15 and a nova rossi 21 would they not be able to be mounted to the same car?
somedude2187
08-07-2002, 10:06 AM
The .21s are slightly bigger in all demensions. The mounting holes are further apart on the .21. Keep in mind that a .21 will make it illegal for racing. On the 1st page in this thread it shows how to drop a .21 in.

Well, 235 cars use .15 motor, and wider tires.
It does handle better than touring car.
Driving capabilities Is in the middle of 1/8 scale and 1/10 tc.

The impact m2 isnt a touring car like the impulse. It is a class of its own, the 1/10th 235mm class. However the chassis is based on the impulse. If you plan to get a impact then you will no longer be able to race in the 200mm sedan class. Also the impact like other 235mm cars only accepts .15 non pull start engines. The handling is between a 1/8th and a 1/10th sedan. As the saying goes, wider=better handling.

They have a local race for the impacts at my track..there are more impulses..but like I said I was in a way sick of tuning the impulse..and with the rear bearing always spiining out..and the cheap bolts on the wheels stripping out of coming off..it was getting annoying..

It is true, but the parts are interchangable. U can make ur impact to 835.
Honestly, it does not matter impact prove its capabilities in almost six years now. No manufacturer in the world just Sts made in the main.
Impact is a really great car, especially 2wd impacts.
2wd is great practice. It is harder to drive than 4wd. However, soon as u change to a 4wd 80% u might be a better driver if u can handle 2wd.
Thge onlly difference of 835 is the main chassi and radio plate, but most of the suspension and transmission are the same.

4wd vehicles are a lot easier to drive than 2wd due to the xtra traction. Also, you wont have to worry about your rear tires wearing out faster than the front tires. They are quicker in the turns and easier to control coming out of them. Although a 4wd kit costs more than the 2wd, Id still get one. :)

Guys, What's the most common parts that you break on an Impact?
spenzalii
01-22-2003, 06:52 PM
I may be in the market for the new 835, just to be different out here. However, I am still confused as to the engine needed for this car. Is it a small block or big block .15? What's the major difference? and can a .21 be wedged in there?
Saboteur
01-22-2003, 08:09 PM
I believe they can accept all kinds of .15 engines or if not just big block .15s. I dont think you can mount a .21 in their as it wont be race legal anyway and wont fit. Might as well get a 1/8th. :) As for common parts that break, I am not aware of that because I dont own that vehicle. However, most common parts that are broken on onroad vehicles are arms, turnbuckles, cracked rims, torn shock towers. It depends how bad you crash your vehicle (personally I'd try the best I can not to crash such an expensive vehicle). Most speeds for the 1/10th onroad class range from 50-60mph and they do handle better than 1/10th touring because they are wider. Pick what ever class you feel like racing in, but the touring class with cost less than the 1/10th onroad and 1/8th.
This may sound like a stupid question but, would a .12 engine fit in a 1/10 on road car (impact)?

Problem is, not too many people RUN that class or make cars for that class (except maybe the STS maddog or teh Mugen KX-Advance)
Rookie Solara

Yeah...235mm class are getting smaller and smaller, IMPACT is a great car, but again, it is a class by its own (beside impact and that IMPACT bootleg STS Maddog.....there are no other 235mm chassis)...IFMAR Top 10 are almost Impact because there are no other cars on 235mm class beside Impact.
If you have several friends that race IMPACT, that would be fun, but if you are the only one that have IMPACT......better sell it (that was the reason I sold my Impact)....cause no ONE will allow you to use IMPACT to race Touring (be carefull, those .15 big block are NOT necessary faster then some small block .12 engine now a day, so don't think IMPACT will kick all TC asses...) And you CANNOT mount a 12 engine on IMPACT (shaft are too short I believe)...but the real question is, WHY?
Impact can run at least 55 mph PLUS....sometime can even hit 65 plus (depends on how EXPENSIVE of your engine)....definitely NOT necessary run faster or better then typical 200mm Touring due to the size of the track....but the bigger/wider the track, the bigger advantage of your IMPACT over TC that would be.
Look around ebay, you can find some very nicely used IMPACT (like 02 spec) for less then $350......my firend just got a National 3rd place finished Impact 02 spec (1 season old and that is the last version of IMPACT before the 835) with tons of parts/tires/bodies and almost new MS EVO Turbo engine on EBAY for $295 shipped............he is the lucky one.
Common parts that my Impact broke.........none, at least none of my Impact parts (the same parts) broke more then ONCE (my impact lasted me 3 season - 3 years)....but one thing I see lost of ppl have problem with - the FRONT belt and front 16T pulleys stripped.............my solution is add a Front belt tensioner on the upper carbon deck, problem solved, and I saw quite a lot of IMPACT owner add that $20 piece of hardware above the front belt.
After I sold my Impact, I got myself a $120 used Super Nitro RS4 to race the IMPACT this season with a .12 engine, HPI are much cheaper, easier to tune and not necessary slower car then IMPACT, but again, if your local track are bigger and wider then usual like the one at Ohio hosting the WORLD National, I don't think any car can get close to IMPACT.

Ok, quick question...
I just got another shell for my Impact M2 2wd (Audi A4). I want this one to be more professional looking than my others, but I dont want to cook it under the shell (Unfortunately did it with a RS4 and a Prime 12)
Anyways, I plan to cut out all the vents in the shell and replace it with a mesh. Also, I want to cut slits (3/8x2 inches, 1/4 inch apart), in the roof, and put a "NACA" duct in the rear windows.
Is this a good idea (as apposed to cutting out a hole in the windshield)?

01-23-2003, 04:24 PM
Good idea, but illegal in a sanctioned race (they have a limit on how big and how many cooling holes you can have) If you're meling the Lexan, you sure you're not running too lean?

Rookie, you forgot the Neo Attack 1/10th. Im not sure if it really is 245mm like the ad says, but you can adjust it. Also someone ran it in the 2001 winter nats and have won.

1. Mugen Advance
2. Sts
3. Neo Attack
4. Picco integra 1/10 235
5. There is one more, and it looks like a bootleg impact. Interchangable parts too. I just cannot recall the name. Its a 3 letter car mmm... still cannot recall.Oh there, I think it was OPS not really sure.

No, I mean cooking the kit itself. I caused so much heat damage that the kits were a total loss (especially that Rs4, not a happy story to tell, but it does involve losing a $180 engine)

a. I had one of the side windows cut out, but I used my "plastic plate" technique. I was using a OS .21, and it ran pretty lean(only way it would run), I have no idea of the temps, but im sure i could fry eggs on it after that...incident. Sorry, no pics.

No it will not fit. u have to get a 1/10 235 body for it.
U have to see if ur body mount is for Gp (Lola) or TC (235 touring car body).
Make sure u read the manual and set up sheets before hitting the track. If u need more support go to www.Mytsn.com they will answer most of ur questions.

I've bought it used as i said and the last owner says it works great, just put your radio equitment in, start the engine, run. I will be third owner of this impact (therefore the low price) i've not bought it to race (im only 12 and missing money) I just want to come around my local track fast and be a little "serpent cool". I think its coming with a body (it will be a cheap deal even if i have to order a new one).
Now i've checked MyTsn for bodies, if i should want to order for example the volvo s-40 body should i give my LHS 1794 as part number? Im new ordering from serpent, kyosho and protoform's sites are in that case a bit clearer.

It really depends on the car's condition. It does not matter if u have the Serpent 835 or the 2002 wco2 impact. U do not know who built it or what kind of option parts were in the car. If its brand new and old model. Can u still modify it and how much it will cost u to upgrade the car. Those are the factors that u have to see. If u think that u r losing cash, just buy a brand Serpent 835 NIB unbuilt. U see some people will build the car and not taking their time. That will be a ****** car, even though its new or latest model.
Building the car is not a problem. Its how u set up ur car or how does the car run.

With 2-speed it does 55-60 mph or 90-100 km/h and accelerates from 0-top speed in around 3 secs.

will the drivetrain and all other components affected by a 21 handle the torque a 21 creates? what all would have to be modified for a 21 to work in this car?
as for as 15's, from what i've learned and experienced. a high end 12 is much faster than any 15's out there. i've been racing off-road for quite a while. and all i run are the 12's mentioned in my above post. and haven't come across no 15 that could run with my truck in an all out race.
are you experienced with the impact mt. i was at another site that offered manuals on this car. and they did not have one for a impact mt they are offering it for a 835 2wd 235mm serpent. i was wondering if this is the same car? i may be getting a serpect impact m2 on a trade. but, he does not have any literature are paperwork on his impact. i would like to atleast get a manual for it.

i am trying to put together an extremely fast Parking Lot Basher. i have several high end .12's and a JP Black 21 in one of my buggies. i originally was planning a 10th scale for one of my 12's. but, what i'm learning as i get closer to a purchase of a car. is that i should build a car for a 21. i see schumacher has the fusion with a 21 and 3 speed. would i be better off buying one of these instead of building an impact m2 with a 21?
i forsee having handling prob's with the schumacher and it's quoted speeds.

Honestly, I have not seen a fusion run and cannot give any feedback.
I know that is a .21 3 speed and might not handle good because of the weight balance in the car. I even think that 3 speed is not a good idea.
Impact is really a sports car. Its half of 8th scale, handles like an 8th scale but lighter than an 8th scale.
This car on ebay was radared and hit 95 MPH. The guy who owns is a cop and use his own Radar.
This car is ballistic in speed and can handle the power of .21 top end motors.
I am not sure if the fusion can handle the power of JP modified Race. especailly the susppension and wheel base of the car. I gues if u just wan a striaght away it will be ok.
I have no doubt in the impact. I did try a .21 convertion. it is fast and very powerful, but my .15 will do the job. I have a Novarossi TX 15 Race, and a modified collari Rb x15. That is enough power also lighter than .21.
This is all up to u, its ur investment. But, if u ask me I will put my money on the impact.

1. Rear Body mount - M2 has a better body mount and looks like a Vector or 950.
2. Shock towers- I am not sure, but I know the last impact came w/ shock tower fron and rear.
3. Rear anti roll bar- I had a 98 99 impact and it does not have a rear anti roll bar I have to change the ff.
a. Upright
b. Rear lower arms
c. Linkages for the anti roll bar
d. Roll bar itself.
4. M2 has better shoccks, if had a 98 it comes w/ aluminum. The adjustable shocks just works better
5. Chassi
6. Radio Plate
7. I forgot what do u call that part, the metal piece that holds the radio plate.
Small difference that u mind spend about $60 to $120.

120 bucks is what i paid for my used impact challenger (97 or 98)! And it works, its an Nova Rossi engine from 97-98 to. The car works well. I dont have an rear anti roll bar but i have mounts for it, i just miss the metal piece and the "things" wich goes from the "metal piece" to the suspension arm. My project for the moment is to get better roadholding, at first i must adjust my clutch and a few more things...
I think the last owner has rebuilt it so its a mix between an Impact challenger and M2 or someone newer. What do you think?

U do not need to modify anything else if u think the car is competitive enough for ur driving skills. Stick w/ that U might have a better chance of winning even if u do not have the exact M2 or 835. If u ever have a chance to try a full M2 or 835 and u feel its a better car and u get more potential. Then, u should consider upgrading ur impact to fully 2002 edition.
Like what I said this is all up to the drivers, and their satisfaction on their cars!!
BTW: on the lower arms look closer to the 2002 and ur impact there are some differences. U might not able to put a anti roll bar w/ o updating some of ur suspension.

That is a great practice car!! Try to throttle when u turn. Honestly, u might turn to better driver once u get a 4wd car. Make sure u lubricate the rear ball diff do not get them lock. U cannot put the rear anti rolbar in this car unless u change the upright, rear body mount and lower arms.
I am sorry, it was a little bit dark. Looks like all u need is the linkages for the rear anti roll bar.

what you guys are saying. that learning with a 2wd will make a better 4wd driver out of you.
but, my main intentions with this 98 or 99 impact would be to make a very fast parking lot basher. i hope the older impacts ie 98 and 99 are still good enough and competetive enough to do what i would like to do? i am planning on squeezing a .21 in it to get the the speeds i would like. and if i like driving on-road'rs like i did my off-road trucks and buggies. i would either upgrade this older impact to the spec 2000 or 2002 IF IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE.
or buy a newer model. also, would it be possible to make the upgrade?

mw .
Its all possible to make it a 2002 or 835. U can install a . 21 in there if u really like.
Honestly, I will prefer modifying the car to 2002 edition to get enough control for the .21. The . 21 will really make ur car fly. I have done and try it on the parking lot. I do not want to do it again becuase I'm into racing not just bashing in the lot. It will really make a lot of differnce especially if u put a top end .21 motor in there.
Ask ur LHS, if u think u will spend more than $200. Just buy a new kit.

835 is the car after impact. Its like a modofied impact. This car is the latest from Serpent. Still a impact to me but they call it 835

will i be able to squeeze a .21 in it?
another question: do you think a 2wd will make a faster parking lot basher than a 4wd? i'm aware with the 4wd i will get better traction. but, with the 2wd, it'll have less resistance on the drive train, making it more efficient for speed. please correct me if i'm wrong.
thanks for the replies.

835 is a 235 mm exactly like impact, u could say that it is the 2003 version of impact, the 705 the 2003 version of impulse and 950 the 2003 vector, they've just changed names to numbers... I've heard about people wich stuffed thier impacts with .21 engines i dont know about the 835... I'm wondering if i should upgrade my impact to 2002 or 835 sometime, what so i need and what should it cost?

bashing around 4wd impact will kill u. 4wd have better grip and control in a fast speed and sharp turn.
U can use the 2wd in drag racing if it just straight away. Make sure the car will handle a lot of torq striaght away when u take off. Or else the car will spin.

I just purchased an older Spec either a 98 or 99. My sole intentions with this car is to have fun in the parking lots to get the feel of being on-road. If me and my son likes it, we'll get into competing with them also.
Can anyone tell me where to get parts. Ecspecially Hop-up parts. I am planning to use a .21 in it. And help with setting this thing up for the power of a .21. This would be greatly appreciated.

hey, i got a good deal on a 4wd 98 or 99 spec. i really didn't wanna buy a newer model because i figure i would be changing a lot of parts to beef the car up to handle the power of the .21 if i would've bought a newer car i would have had a lot of stock brand new parts laying around. by me buying an older model the parts that i change out will probably have a little wear and need to be changed anyway. can you suggest where to get parts from. like carbon fiber and titanium stuff. do they even make hop-ups like this for this car?
any suggestions as for as what should i expect to wanna hop-up? my sole intentions are to make this thing as fast as i possibly can for parking lot bashing. i am looking towards the nova rossi .21's also.

Hello Muddy Waters Just finished reading your post. I think I can answer one of your questions if you intend on putting a high output 21 engine in your car dont buy a fusion! There is no flywheel opening in the chassis the fly wheel is to small in diam to hit the bump starter and the 3 speed tranny is non adjustable. I modified my thundertiger motor in my fusion this winter it over powers the springs of the paws in the 3 speed and the car takes off in 3 gear. I am trying to fix this by putting in stronger springs.

I'm swedish so i don't understand really what rubber tires is... Do you mean the same as foam tires (1:8 track std.) or normal 1:10 200mm, slicks? The impact is made for foam tires and it comes with it.
muddywaters
04-22-2003, 04:39 PM
you're correct with your assumption. slicks are a good example. tires like that but with some kind of tread pattern. remember, my main goal with this car is to make it a very fast parking lot basher. i am thinking that foam tires may not last too long with the kind of power output the engine will have. and am hoping there's a set of rubber tires or something that'll take the abuse.
mw
nitrohead3000
04-22-2003, 05:52 PM
Hey, Muddy If you want your foam tires to last longer go to a higher shore rating , then use a lighter spring and lighter shock oil on your shocks to compensate for the higher shore tires so you can increase tire wear without losing traction . This was in my vector instruction manual you might want to check the serpent sight for some tips, help with your plan.
muddywaters
04-22-2003, 06:37 PM
i take the higher shore rating is the number that's given with the tire. ie. 30, 35, 40, 45............................
if i'm correct i also take it that the higher the number the more dense the foam is making it a harder compound.
if i'm right, i may get the hang of this alot quicker than expected.........lol
i really appreciate the replies.
sincerely,
mw

04-23-2003, 07:46 AM
Muddy you are correct the higher the shore number the harder the foam. Sometimes you can match the amount of traction you get from a soft tire that has medium weight shockoil and springs with a hard tire that is used with a light weight oil and springs. I am working on an impact too! I just purchased a rb5 11 port. I believe you have the right idea your car should be ultra high speed racer that is more stable than the fusion because it is wider and has extra wide tires to deal with the increase in horse- power. Along time ago serpent use to make a three speed if you could get one of those and put it on your car it would be a rocket. It is too bad that serpent does not make them any more but sometimes you can find one on e-bay that is what I am trying to do. Good luck

checked it out, and it came with the folowing:
Ko Propo Radio
Starter Box
Glow starter
Fuel bottle
Spares
2 sets of rims
2 bodies, Opel Calibra unpainted
paint, original box
the car was extreamly dirty - was sitting around for a year.
Sat up till 2am last nite, stripped the whole car cleaned everything up looks brand new...
There is NOT a single scratch on the chassis... nothing...
Gonna be getting some ups for it
Like collers for the springs so i can adjust em easier..
and maybe a new rear bodymount posts.
The car is 2WD
had a look at the manual it says its a Serpent IMPACT 8000 Pro
Engine is a NovaMega SX15, extreamly good condition cleaned it up looks like new....
well worth the $180 i paid for all...

The car still look good and good running condition. Make sure do not brake the arms or the bulkheads. Honestly, the parts does not exist anymore. That was produce same time w/ the Serpent excel. U brake one arm u have to replace the other so get the same diameter.
Here is my impact under another set up. I have my notes in the other impact and probably copy some of those set up in this car. Becuase the other car that I set up work great in this track that we are going to race next week.

Notice the bulheads, lower arms, rear engine mount, the 4wd set up. This used to be a 99 spec 2wd and modified to a 2002 4wd spec w/o the shock towers. Lot of parts to change so it will be compatible.

Look at the pic i attached last side of this thread i think of my Impact! It looks exatly like your exept your is cleaner and my cooling head is scratched, i asked a guy and he thought my impact were an Impact challenger spec 97 or 98... I've performed a search by the number on the NovaMega "silencer" at MyTsn and it does still exsist! My suspension arms doens't look like yours... Mine looks like the new ones at MyTsn and another diffrence is that my Mega logo on the exhaust isn't white painted.

The boring thing with sweden is that the 1:10 235mm class is dying... Soon noone will race those funny cars :(

Take a closer look to Rcnewbie and my impact's arms. You cannot get those arms in your car anymore. U have to use my arms or newbie's arms (its the same). Newbie does not have the same exact car like yours. If u brake one arm in your impact. You also have to change bulkheads in order for u to replace the new upper arm. Your impact does not have caster. The newer impact have caster setting.
There are more things to say, I know I cannot help you there or around your area because its too far from me. The best way is take your car to your local hobby shop that carries and knowledgeble about serpent products. AS far as my knowledge parts availibilty for that car does not exist anymore such as upper arms front and rear, lower arms front and rear, and bulk heads. I will be amaze if you can purchase the same exact upper and lower arms.
BTW: Not to disappoint you, I am just giving u my thought. U can ignore my opnion. I just think that its good to let u know the parts availability of your car.

if u call that hub carriers, yes I was referring to thos parts. Honestly, use the 2002 edition impact manual because the parts availability of this car is in demand. If i were do not race that car. Just practice w/ the car and make sure be careful not to break a part.

Never put a .12 in a 1/10 235 car.
put a .21 instead!!
It can be done, but your putting extra load in your .12. Honestly, I would not even do it. I have a JP s5 novarossi and 5 port MS .12. I don't think their is more powerful motors than this 2 motors I mentioned.

Does this car replace the Impact?
I am still on my quest to building a fast Parking Lot Basher.
I bought a Spec99 hoping it would do it. I am sure with the 21 I'm planning to put in it will help me. But, now are wondering if I should go with a different car. The Impact is a Super Nice car and I'm still learning all the intricate details that consists. I was just wondering if I should get a car that has more Hop-ups available. I've learned the Impact is a Race Only - Competitive Car. And I am really only doing this for fun and to ga as fast as I possibly can in a Straight Line. Where's the Impact's main objective is to be a Super Fast Track Raced Car.
Can anyone suggest a Car? I was leaning towards a HPI or Associated NTC3.
What do ya'll think?
If I'm correct and do go with a different Car. I am going to have a VERY NICE Spec99 with ALOT of extra parts and a Michael Salven EV4 .15 and pipe for sale.

The only thing I like in the 835 is the Centax II and the new 2 speed, but over all its an impact. :)

First of all, you asked the wrong forum. Off course Mugen will stick to their brand. They will tell you to buy a 8th scale MRx or Mugen Avance 1/10 235.
Anyway, both motors will be good for your car and will kick some serious butt on the lot.
I think the Novarossi Mario modified would be enough power to drag.
The JP and the NovaMAXX ( Go Nitro forum above you will see the motor there with its internal parts) is highly a racing motor and very expensive on just bash around!!

Muddy, I think it is important to have a good powerful motor but I would not get fixated on that because if you can't get it to hook up and all that horse power turns into wheel spin , then it has not did you any good. If I were you I would go watch the outlaws run and take note,ie who won , what kind of motor did he have how much nitro was he running , what kind of body did he use ete, etc. Because alot of drag racers focus on mega horse power and forget about chassis tuning which puts the horse power to the ground. I would pick a motor from the top three( JP black, nova modified, mario mod) install it in my car then begin tuning my chassis experimenting with chassis droop, tires because it sounds like competion is serious.

thnx for the advice.
i am very aware of the need for the correct set-up. i learned this with racing my off-road trucks and buggies. i also raced dirtbikes for several years and at first i was after monster power. after i started making the power. i then got serious with the suspension. once i had the suspension tuned to my weight and riding style. i realized i did not need the engine mods.....
i did purchased with my car - droop gauges and other set-up tools. the only thing i hadn't gotten yet is a set-up board. but i will get one before i start trying to put the power to the ground. one of the main reasons for going with the impact was because i learned this car would better handle the speeds i wanted to achieve.
it may be a while before i get to run it at it's maximum to obtain it's top speed. but, once i do, i'll post my results.

Muddy, I put a sirio 18 in my nitro tc-3 it is very fast but it pulls just alittle to the right I think this could be a problem with the tc-3 especially with a high output 21. Just wanted to share that with you.

I gave this car a allot of consideration for this project. but, with the impacts rep. i felt it would make for me a much better controllable and sturdier car with the power i am going to install. i've narrowed my selection down to between the RB C5 Collari Mod, JP Kangaroo, Nova Rossi Kangaroo Mario Mod or the Nova Mega SX-21T-EV5MS. the Mario Mod is a few more dollars than the JP. thats what i'm trying to find out. is if it would be worth spending the extra money for the Mario.
my motto is, too much power is better than not enough. i'd rather have to de-tune a lil to make it work. than max the lil engine out and it not be enough.
can you not try different weight oils or sorings to compensate for the prob ur having with the TC3? are u using set-up-blocks, droop gauge, etc. to set ur chassis up?
like i said. prior to starting this project on the impact i was well aware of the need to get it set-up perfectly.
if anyone else is keeping up with us on these post and have some suggestions or advice. please feel free to jump in here. i am also aware i may go thru a few different engines, cars, etc trying to achieve my goal. but, are hoping someone can get me a lil closer to my alternative without hurting the bank acct too bad.

Muddy, it not so bad that you can't drive it I am going to play around with the suspension and see if I can't preload the shocks on one side to take it out.

I am glad I went with a 18 instead of a 21 with this car !! I don't think it could handle a 21!! I would have to do a lot of work to get it to handle, with a 21 in it.

i'm glad i heard someone say that about the NTC3. Because this was a car i was gonna try for my project. i was hoping the Impact WILL handle the power better vthan the other cars i were gonna try. i'll let everyone know when i'm finished. that way no-one else will have any questions about doing this with the Impact.

Ohh, i'm the one who shall be sorry... I meant the rear anti-roll bar, will it make much or less to my impacts handling? And, does anyone know a good basic setting for the SX-15's carb? The SX-15 is EV-1, 2 or 3....

Don't hesitate to go with a monster engine. I know a guy running a Collari .21 powered RS4 that absolutely flies. It can't turn worth a damn, but hooks up and runs in a straight line. Getting the car to grip in a drag race should be fairly easy, it's the turning part that gets tricky. Good sticky tires, soft rear suspension, good balance, and a little trigger control is all it'll take with a solid rear/ front one-way. If your running a diff you have to worry about that, but I'm sure your not. I'm not sure I would have gone with an impact for drag racing personally, but you definitely should have no drive train issues other than belt damage. My super nitro is quite a bit lighter than my impact, and with 1/8 scale foams it hooks up really well straight line wise. I'm not running a .21 in it, but there are supers out there that are, most of them strictly for dragging.

I have the Car I am gonna use for my Project. It's an Impact M2 in perfect condition. I have the Spec99 up for sale on E-bay. That ones in perfect condition also. I went with the M2 only because it was a deal I could not pass up.
I just went thru the entire car. I cleaned and polished all the Hinge Pins Front and Rear. Cleaned and Polished all the Ball-ends, rebuilt the Shocks with 30wt oil and Graphit Lube'd everything that I didn't want dirt to stick to.
That's about all I know to do to this on-road Car. I have a good bit of knowledge with setting up off-road Stadium Trucks. But, nothing on on-road Cars. I have a couple of Droop Gauge Support Blocks and a 3mm to 10mm Droop Gauge. I am planning on buying a Set-up Board to help me get this thing set-up correctly.
My first question: Shock Springs. It has the Blue ones on it. I was wondering which ones should I use for my application.
And can I change the pulleys to get a different Gear Ratio. I've found diferent Pinion and Spur Gears. And are gonna get a few to try out.
What about tires? What Shore ratings should I first try. Remember I'm gonna be on New Black Top in the Parking Lots. I have a few different ones now but, plan on buying a few more. And what tires should I get ie. Ellegi, Arrows. Who makes the better ones?
Hope this wakes you Impact Drivers up............he.he.
P.S. anyone that reads this and has extra parts for this car that you would like to get rid of. E-mail me.
Thanks,

The anit roll bar will add traction control on your car. This will end performance.
Try it its cheap anyway!!

make sure you get the proper right ride height and droop height. Get the proper measurement from your tires.
If you do not true your tires let the track true your tires for you by running the car slowly @ the track.
This would help more on traction control and roll.

Ehhh, could you pls. explain the word "droop"? Im 12 years old and live in sweden so my english isn't the best... The Impact is my second car and i love it, I think its a very good car to learn setting up and driving, when i get more money i'm thinking of buying a Serpent 705 with a NovaMega and start competitoing (how do you spell that in english?:p)! I'm planning to purchase the Serpent Volvo S40 body for the impact, what do you think?
What are those tire-truers doing, do they rub the tires surface or what?

OK,
Body: get the Lola or the GTP porsche like the Lola. Great aerodynamic compare to Tc bodies. Do not underestimate the power of a better aerodynamic bodies. They go smooth in a high speed acceleration!!
Droop: Once you buy a hudy set up I will explain it to you in a specific matter. U need the set up blocks and the fixtures for easier understanding.
Tires: New tires from the box or bag is not that great, but after running it for @ least 3 min. you get better traction than brand new tires. Running your car on asphalt is like triung it with a truer, but u get precise measurement on the tire truer!!

First of all i must say thank you!:D
Body: I live in one of the most boring 1:10 IC 235mm countries you can find, here's a list of all the bad things with Sweden:
1. The 1:10 IC 235mm is dying, everybody sells their impacts and mugens :(
2.Only RWD is race legal :(
3.Only TC bodies are race legal :(
Droop: I don't have too much money (wich i said im only 12 years old). What does a good hudy set-upper cost?
Tires: Wich i said im not too rich so a tire truer must wait... When i get my new tires i will "break them in" by running slowly round the track?
Thanks again Kakolitoy!

weird, chicagoland suddenly has a thriving 235mm class. At the track I run at (Kakolitoy also) there are probably going to be at least 6 guys running impacts this weekend. Until I bought my Impact I was running a Super Nitro, and there were 5 or 6 of them there. The class that's dead everywhere else is growing here.
Now if I can only get mine to handle:rolleyes:

the 835 is much like the the old impact if you have the shift point close you really can't hear it shift, have to listen for the rpms to change. the centax is not as hard shifting as such as hpi 2-speed or associated.

Honestly, I can hear the shift of my impact. you can really tell that the 2nd gear engaged. In the Gen 2 centax and 2 speed I can't hear it, but I can see it when its on the pavement. It sounds weird but that is what I noticed.

They said actually a .21 will fit in the car since the big block .15 and .21s have the same displacement or somthing like that. I'd like to run one of these, but I'd just widen my sedan to the same specs.

Hi Serpent Gurus,
My name is Robert and I have a Serpent Impact 2WD for some years now. At the moment the car is not in great shape, I did not use it for a while… :o But just recently I have come to my senses and I really would like to get the car ‘working’ again. Because I am not all knowing like you guys, I need the manual for that. Can anybody help me?
Thx!!!

Hey man welcome to the forums! :)
First thing though, this class really died over a year ago. Everyone are now more into sedans and 8th onroads. You can still find some other people running 235mm cars, but it's the Serpent 835mm. I've just checked for a downloadable manual though have not found anything. :(

I doubt you can find one unless you go buy one from ebay if someone is selling........however, the who design scheme of the IMPACT is still be using on the 835, which their manual is still able to be download, however, not sure you can still buy IMPACT parts..........I have some, they are way old that I don't even want to touch them...............
Mid West Series and ROAR national still race 235mm class....all 4WD, just not as popular then 1/8th or 200mm TC..
You can download 835 manual here
