Im new what does all the motor business mean...

stock modified extra, 19 turn :confused: all confusing!!!!

Also toe at back and toe out at front good for a touriong car? yr-4?

An electric motor has three main components.
1. Armature, or comm. This is a metal 'blank' around which wires of differing thickness are wound. A 12 triple would have three wires wound around the comm 12 times, and so on.

2. The can - with vents, bearings for reduced friction or bushings, and of course magnets - to make the thing spin!

3. The endbell - with another bushing/bearing, the brushes, and the brush spring, transferring charge to the comm.

A mod motor is rebuildable. Due to its high power and current draw it will suck power out of cheap batteries and cause increase comm spring and brush wear. Much faster than stockers and a lot more expensive to.

A stock motor has fixed timing [ location angle of comm - magnets in can] and is rebuildable mostly nowadays, bar the mabuchi/tamiya line. Stock motors last long, and have a lot of torque, with less power. they will be easier on your car, your batts, and therefore your bodyshell.

As for toe in, in the rear say 1-2 degrees for straight line handling, and in the front 1 degree toe out. this gets rid of stodgy understeer but makes the car aggressive. I run I deg toe out in my axis 2 on carpet.

Close on the armature part. The "comm" is the small part of metal at the top of the armature that is 3 segments of copper. The Armature is the whole part of the motor that spins in side the can. If contains the Comm the wind (the wire that wraps around the 3 "poles" of the motor and the shaft that rides in the bearings (mod) or bushings (stock). The Comm is the part that interfaces with the brushes which are the rectangle metal pieces in the endbell. The brushes are replaceable and you can have the comm resurfaced to bring back the performance of the motor if you need to.

To add a little more. A stock motor has to have bushings and fixted timing. This means you cannot rotate the endbell like stated before by rick. Also a stock motor will have one wire looped 27 times around each pole of the armature. There are some other small rules but anything other then this 27 turns with bushings and fixed timing is considered a modified. No recently they have started a spec mod class with the 19 turn motors. These have bearings and fixed timing but have 19 turns of wire around each pole and are faster but are supposed to be used for a faster class with controled cost.
