I am breaking in the engine and will run this car on a large paved road course usually inhabited by 1/5 scale cars.
I have already traded the kit tires for OFNA 1/8 treaded street tires (medium foams) which fit perfectly. Many mods are available from Schu and the alloy engine mount/heat sink is a must have. I've already figured out that Associated shocks and titan turnbuckles are easily fitted, so these expensive parts are readily available. The observations of other owners will be welcome!

Hi,
Where is the track where you'll run your car?
Also, have you seen any other Schumacher Big 6 running there
Tnx.

Will run at Sun Valley Micro Speedway but it has rained every Sunday for the past month so I have yet to get there on my only day off.

The nitro car was clocked in a magazine article at 45mph and this is with the stock gearing, Two speed is listed on the optional parts page of the manual. I have broken in the TT engine and it starts easily, has a high idle, but the engine manual says this is normal. My car is already heavily modified with Associated fuel tanks and shocks, and OFNA street tires. One thing the mag article warned about was the brittle arms, I broke one and bent the steel hinge pin. New ones on the way from Florida, plus spares. I think it will be worth it because the car runs like a giant pan car, very simple and fast.

I've been thinking of getting one with the two speed option. I think it would be a great project for my four stroke OS FS .40! I originally bought that engine for my 1/8 buggies, but it is going to take a LOT to get it to work, and space is tight even though it's about the same size as a .21. I just figured that the Big 6 would be just about perfect for this engine, and the 2 speed option is a major plus for a 4 stroke! Any thoughts on this? Would it be worth my time (and the investment in another car)?

I have just got one same gearing as my XTR 3e and that IS FAST same 3 speed box too. Will have pictures of the built product when the shel is finished in colour flip paint (looks green from one angle and blue from another

But unlike my 3e it has a crap pullstart rather than a drill start :( which broke second pull, so I borrowed my drill start from my XTR and it went straight away :)

Will also have picture on my formerly XTR based site www.nitrocrazy.com soon as I get the time. Have run it in took about an hour looks like it will be quick as the XTR and I was running it with V2 tyres (tires whatever :D ) on a grass track. The standard slicks are a bit hard really though for road but Schumacher do softer ones and rally tyres too.

How Big Do YA want it???

http://www.aowp04.dsl.pipex.com/images/Nice_big_6.jpg

Recently finished building this puppy, she can shift too, three gears, Thunder tiger 21 engine (a la XTR 21 3e Desert storm seen in off road Nitro forum). And it is BIGGG I tell you. Based on a Lotus Exige (not an Elise as it says on the box) which is the maddest car Lotus make at present, two seater mid engined monster, which this car very much is in th spirit of. This is 1/6th scale for less, well by a penny, than 300 ukp!!! Supplied by Apex models in ARTR form (hmmm?), you just need radio gear and off you go!

One word of advice or mabe two, the pull start is weak (I fitted an easy start, drill strarter from an XTR in mine). Also the tyres sold with it are just not grippy enough Schumacher do sell better ones at 22 ukp a pair. At least get some for the back, unless you like doing donuts (which fry your diff, I know as I have done two diffs in my XTR!).

Plus I have done a lot of work cutting out the vents in the back louvres see www.nitrocrazy.com (http://www.theprovadas.com/cgibin/autorank/rankem.cgi?action=in&id=wheels) and go to close up parts page and the Big 6 page under OUR CARS section for more info on mine and others, plus some great links!!!

Claimed top speed 75mph and I don't think it will be far off that!

Sounds like you guys in the US are yet to really experience the 3 speed version of the Big 6.......Forget the 4 stroke engine conversion - you don't need it. This baby rocks out of the box - just fit the softer tyres to the rear and upgrade to the black springs and away you go !!! Find somewhere huge to run it though 'cos at 70mph you don't want to run out of road !!! And guys, when you race a few of these together and you're neck and neck in third gear..........WHAT A RUSH !!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just about to fit the 3 speed to my already well modified XTR (see www.xtrracers.co.uk) and can't wait to see that fly 'cos it's damn quick already........

hello, just my input, this Big 6 should of been 4wd
b/c most huge parking lots aren't that clean.....
traction is a problem with 2wd......

also, will ofna 1/8 GTP tires fit on the Lotus Big 6?

what do you fellas think of the new schumacher 4wd Fusion
coming out, its a 1/10 car with a .21 motor

thanks

Yeah, agree that a 4wd version of the Big 6 would have been interesting but the car handles superbly in 2wd form and is great fun to drive. 4wd would undoubtedly have made it easier to drive. Have no idea whether the ofna tyres will fit the Lotus wheels, guess you'll just have to try them out and see for yourself. As far as the new "Fusion" is concerned, it looks like a very exciting racer........however, I'm a bit concerned at what would happen if you have "a big one" at 70mph - would it survive ? Probably still end up owning one at some time though...........

Had my tyres on order from Apex for over a week now still not arrived yet so would be really great if anyone does find other tyres to fit, else when Sunday comes The ChalkPit Crew Meets XTR races won't be quite as much fun as I hoped :-(

By the way how about this for constructive use of ally repair gauze :-)

The rear vents on my 6....

Can I get the parts information from you regarding the associated tanks conversion. My tanks leak horribly on my big 6. Just curious as to any info that you would be willing to share

Hi guys,

I might be buying a Big 6 for £200 in the next week or so, and just wondered what you think of them (i.e value for money, spares availabilty, quality of kit etc).

The only thing holding me back is the price of things such as shells and tyres (£22 for a pair is hella steep! :o ), and then I've heard that the steering isn't too sharp (long wheelbase).

Apart from that I'm raring to buy one. Just need to sell that blasted HPI Pro2.

rccarkilla - for £200 you should bite the guys arm off !!!
Does that include radio as well ?
The Big 6 is a wicked car, especially if it's a 3 speed model.
You won't believe how much fun you can have with it.
Parts are easily available from www.racing-cars.com or most model shops like Apex Models etc. Its pretty robust as well.
Tyres are not cheap as you say, and the kit slicks are crap - get a set of the racing slicks at least for the rear and away you go.
Make sure you have the foam front bumper fitted to give some protection in case you have a "moment" - they are well quick after all. Weak points in my opinion are the fuel tanks (same as xtr) where either the lid seal will fail, or worse of all, the main seal between the two tank halves will leak. Seal kits are cheap enough but you may want to change the tanks for something better - just search out a tank that fits and swap them over.
If you don't buy it, PM me and let me know, 'cos I know a man that will..............

Hi,

Yeh it does sem to be a killer deal, but the owner says he's just got no time for it as he's getting into 1/10s. That includes full Futaba Radio gear aswell :eek

The car is the single speed version, but it's still a really good deal in my opinion. I'll probably end up buying the 3 speed as I get used to the car and its handling characteristics.

Another good point is that I might be able to race it against the 1/5 scale FG's at Tibshelf model car club. I'd love to see the look on their faces if I manage to beat their £600 race-bred machines, hehe.

Anyways, if i don't buy it, I'll be sure to let u know who is selling it ;)

=chris=

P.S - Would the HPI tanks off of HPI's nitro models fit? I could get hold of them very easily, and theyre great quality and never leak(have one in my Nitro Rush).

xtr21
02-04-2003, 04:17 AM
not sure if the HPI tanks will fit - not familiar with them, but I'm pretty sure you could make them fit. Another option is the Thunder Tiger EB4/EK4 tank which we use in our XTR "EVO" racers - see www.xtrracers.co.uk I'd definately recommend the 3 speed upgrade - it makes a whole lot of difference.
And £200 with radio is a great price..........go get it !!!

Hi,

Yeh I really can't wait to get hold of this thing. I already have an HPI Rush which I have just dropped a new 'STS MT12' engine into, which is rated at 1.35hp and 38,000rpm, and it makes the thing unstable it's so fast! I find it hard to imagine how fast a Big6 must be.

I just can't wait to drive a car this big and powerful. I've already started thinking what potential it has. I could switch the engine for a HoBao hyper 8 port once the TTR unit wears out, and a engine like that would make a Big 6 tremble (2.6hp :eek ). Of course I'd have to get the 3-speed, so just think of the speeds it would get to!

Makes me go giddy just thinking about it.....hehehe :D

Sorry for my absence on this thread.. My Lotus is just too fast for the parking lot where I run it even with the one speed and a big 1/8 buggy rear wing for stability. I busted both the front and rear arms so many times, they are just too fragile. Made me think twice about serious racing. Almost every time it was just a light tap against the curb or running over a drainage gutter. Also I crushed the header in a rollover. Believe it or not with the grippy tires this car WILL traction roll. I carefully dismantled the car and found that the chassis was slightly twisted, probably from launching over that gutter. Anyway, It just takes too long to get parts. Modifying it was fun, though. Think I'll try an Ofna Ultra GT next.

Are there any new bodies for the big 6?

nilla
10-12-2003, 11:20 PM
i see that alot of people are complaining about the tanks leaking at the main seal. The rubber seals are too big. Thats what causes the tanks to leak. I have found that if you just soak the rubber seals in nitro before you assemble the tanks then the seals will shrink and fit perfectly and the tanks won't leak.

I have also broke the front a arm on my big 6 and bent the steal pin thingys....they're too weak. Maybe one day I'll get the 3 speed. That will be awesome:D

Ive had a Big 6 for about 4 months now and unfortunatly also had several big crashes  ! I have cracked several sets of wishbones and those pin thingys! I have also found that i have to check the engine mountings and realign it before each running as i have managed to shread the 3rd gear several times! Any ideas how to stop this from happening??

For those of you that want a little more speed from your engine (i know i did even though it goes like a bat out of hell!!) if you havent already done so remove the spring between the engine and the and the rear plate! It will increase acceleration and top speed by 5-10mph (My experence only not timed!)

Hello. I know that this is for the Nitro Big 6 but I need an electric one anyone know where I can get one? I have a special project that requires the electric version. Any hints will be most welcome. Schumacher US dose not sell this any more.

I don't think the electric ones are made anymore :(

I think you'd have to check ebay (I think you'd have more luck if you went on ebay.co.uk (http://www.ebay.co.uk)) :)

Try threadlocking the engine mount screws.
