Is there any reson no one has made a monster truck that bends in half to steer. Like those Front end loaders. I think that would be cool. Is there a problum with balancing or something. I think it would be easier beacuse you don't have the streering of the wheels. If you have anything on a truck they already made and i don't know about it, or you know some problums that i don't then Plese respond.

Low speed handling would probably be incredible but at high speed I'm sure it would be a hand full. The slightest steering input would be magnified to the point you would need some sort of speed controlled dual rate system. That's the way I see it working. Any engineers out there? Maybe this would be something to try.

Thanks badmeat of your input i wanna try this because i'm going to make a monster truck with a .21. I was just wounding if there's any big problums i have to worry about. i'm desinging it now on turboCAD v7 put on decmber 25, i'll hope to by parts like the engine and then get dimictions ( ??Spelling?? ). I plan on using a Hobbico CS-80 2BB Giant Scale Servo U for $42.99 click here (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?Q=1&I=LXLN93&P=0). 343 oz of toque. oh yeah!!!
Any more problums?

I'm in no way an expert. I was just trying to picture its operation in my head. I could see giving this a try with a road car but I don't know how you could make the pivot point strong enough to stand up to off road use. That'll probably be the hardest part.

a vehicle that steers in the middle IS a hand-full at high speed. i know, i drove a front-end loader at my old job a few times. meneauvers excellent at slow speeds, but drop it in second, floor it, and be very careful on the steering wheel... i almost took out a corner of a barn cause the are twitchy when moving fast!!!

when you say twitchy, do mean super super sensitive, or it will tip very easily. Because I think if I now the exact problems before I make it, I think I could fix them first, like maybe having the wheels closer, wider, or stuff like that. Thanks.

well, at full speed, it responds to steering very quickly, but it was kinda shure-footed, it only went about 20mph top speed, but like i said, it responded very quickly to steering input. no way was it going to flip, those things weight like 25000 pounds, and all the wieght is kinda centered low, but thats a front-end loader. an rc monster truck, in my mind, MIGHT flip if you steer it too much at high speed, so you wouldnt need a lot of steering. actually, i would believe that they handle a lot like a 4ws truck, like a clod. but thats just what i think, just using my head......woah......gotta whatch how i use it so ity doesnt fry!!!.......jk

this is to badmeat's proplem.
I think i can make it strong by using bearings and aluminum.
I made the center section of my car and this is what it looks like:
the gray things are bearings. The green pieces will be connected to the back of the truck and the red will be connected to the front. The vertical black pieces are supports. the different blues swivle. as you can see, there is a drive shaft in the middle so it can be 4wd.

Here is the same picture but it is turning 15 degrees

Here is front view. You can see a 1mm gap between the two different blues which will leave room for a 1mm thick washer between the two bearings

here's a veiw from the top, you can see the genaral shape and te bearings.

Okay, so your planning a double deck chassis. It looks pretty strong but I think I'd go it one better and also double it up on the red side too. Just a thought but you could use something like axle thrust bearings like we used to use on the old 12th scale pan cars at the pivot pins between the decks to make movement smoother during loaded conditions. (couldn't find a picture of any thrust bearings but this one but you'll get my idea)

Hey, I got some of those, just the balls though. I bought them at AXEMAN surpples. That store is key very cheap good items. I paid 85 cents instead of 23 bucks for it, Mine is 33 mm instead of 6.5 so mine's a lot bigger and stronger. Is the back suppose to look like that? thanks for the advice, I'll chage it and make it stronger.

Yeah, that bearing link was simply for illustration. Those bearings were for I believe a helicopter swashplate. Yours look great but I'd use a hardened steel race on each side. It would probably eat into the aluminum if you didnt.
