Ok I searched the net and read some stuff but none of the sites go into detail. This is what I want. I want an off road kit that I can build (as long as it has instuctions) gas truck that is on the faster side. Everyone seems to be pointing me to an electric car but I want to build it and I like speed. There are no tracks near me and no one else to race. So I want to make some ramps and run accross my neighbors lawn. If there is a site other than tower hobbies please let me know. Also I am guessing the difference between .15 & .70 is the engine size? I would love a site that says pick the body then gives you the available engines then wheels etc....
Any help would be appreciated!:D

I will be the first to say it, nitro is not the best to start off with. Also, electrics are not slow at all; infact, an electric car set the record for the fastest R/C car.

If you insist on a nitro, an RC10GT would be a great start. a Good engine for it would be the O.S. CV-X .15.

If you change your mind, and go to electric, a Team Associated T3 would be great, as would a Duratrax Evader, and Traxxas Rustler.

ya, nitro is not easy for newbies, i was in electric for about 6 years and got my first nitro, a losi gtx with a dynamite .12pd. well, after watching the video several times and had read about tuning for years, i wasnt so succesful when it was runing. i actually blew the con rod about 3 times cause it overheated(ya, i had the mip temp prob, too), but like you, all i was into was going fast and letting that thing scream, bad news!, anyway, i finally gor rid of it and went back to enjoying the simplicity of electric( and raising my beatiful daughter!). i went back into nitro a year ago, and after a LOT of knowledge, im now succesful, basically, nitro isnt easy for newbies, it requires a LOT of perserverence, and paitence. more paitence than anything!

Well I don't want to spend more than $600.00 with the radio and parts.

THats cool but I was a mechanic for 5 years I understand leaning out an engine or running rich and I am not affraid of breaking things. Ok electrics are fast but can you tinker with them and how long can you race?

Well how long can you run the electrics? I don't mind f-ing up some parts learning as long as they tell you how to put it together. I am not racing anyone I just want to have fun. Is there a site to learn more about nitro. Also what is .12pd the size of the piston?

I run my electric T3 for like 8 minutes at a pretty good clip (I'd say about 20 mph top speed). I have it set up as a monster truck (bigger tires, maxed out the suspension and put on a T-maxx body) with a 19-turn motor, 7 cells (going for 8, just have to make the packs) with only 1500 Mah. You can easily get more speed, but you sacrifice run-time. I personally like big jumps, I use a bike ramp for this, with my off-road cars. But really I prefer onroad, where my funny-car on 10 cells goes 60+.
Also, the numbers ".12" ".15" etc... refers to the displacement of the engine in cubic inches.

Come on guys, he wants some nitro suggestions too. One truck to check out is the 4wd HPI Nitro MT Racer. It comes with many hop-ups for performance and durability. It's a kit, so you get to assemble it and you get to choose your own engine and radio. Drop in an OS CVRX engine (1hp) and the thing will fly. I think the JR Racing XR2 is an excellent value for a low end radio for nitro and would work great with the truck. It's AM, but has many good features. Good Luck

i always suggest the traxxas nitro stampede, but it ready-to-run, BUT is a very durable, great handling, with good top speed, all for a great price, only 300 bucks with radio, about 230 with out radio, but thats my suggestion.

I would reccomend the RTR ( ready to run) traxxas T maxx. Its considered the "ultimate" rc monster truck. You dont have to put it together.I started off with a nitro rtr and gave it up to join the battery guys. I know I know batteries are for flashlights but dont you think you neabhor will get a little pissed off at you for having that thing buzzing around in front of his house all day? I do mean all day cuz once you get a "real" rc you wont wanna stop running it! I have a traxxas electric stampede and i have to say that it is the BEST rc i have bought. I have a tamiya TLO1 , tamiya frogger, traxxas stampede , ultima st type R race truck but i cant open it till x mas :( , and had a bolink digger. and out of the bunch ( cept for the ultima) i would have to say ive clocked in more hours bashing the stampede. So if you want a nito i would get the T maxx , but i your want a eletric i would get a stampede. Unfourtunatly the t maxx doesnt come in a kit but the pede does ....... HAVE FUN!
