No reviews probably untill monday when we are done bashing them saturday & sunday. The EK4 is a cool truck, but I was not impressed with the suspension or having to buy a radio, & an airplane starter. Also if can save $40 on the thunder Quake if you use code 010W7 or 011W7
Go ahead & order it.... You know you wanna!:D

Its kinda unfair to compare the EK4 and the TQ. They are totally different trucks, with the EK4 meant for bashing, and TQ aimed (IMHO) for racing. Just some thoughts....
My EK4 comes in one to two days. Woo Hoo!

I did it! I ordered my TQ! I had it sent standard shipping so I have to wait awhile ;(
Did anyone order theirs "next day air" yesterday? I'm ready to see some pics and hear some thoughts.... I know that at least one person here will have the truck in their hands today :D

Heres what Hankster's gotta say so far about the TQ.
Since the TQ is now available publicly I'll give out a little of what I have found so far.
DuraTrax has improved a few areas where the NQ was weak. The diff gears are redesigned and the stripping problem should be gone.
The springs are a lot stiffer now, so the rear suspension doesn't sag.
The lower profile tires make the TQ ride and handle a lot better.
Now for the bad, after 6 tanks and just getting the engine broke in, I totally toasted the 2 speed tranny. I haven't taken it apart yet to see what happened, but it doesn't look pretty. Waiting to see what DuraTrax wants to do about it before I tear it apart.

Hmmm, that doesn't sound too good. Does Hank have a site? It doesn't show him as the guide anymore at about.com. Also, if its not too much trouble, could you get me the maximum ground clearance for this truck? What I mean is by moving the shocks to the lowest point on the shock tower. Thank You. I'm interested in this truck, and I hope the tranny problem is just a preproduction issue or one that Duratrax will fix.

In the rush to get them out before christmas, they probably forgot to locktite the shiftpoint adjustment screw allowing the screw, spring & check ball to fall out inside the 2 speed clutch drum & making a mess.

Yeh it may be RTR but for the money a person is paying for it they sure better go over the whole truck and make sure everything is fitted correctly.
On what he said about the springs being stiffer. I think the TQ springs are the same as the NQ springs (if they didnt change since Sept)its just that the susp is much better that the truck reboundws much easier than the old design. Less drag smoother operation.:)
About the 2-speed OH-NO Hope it was just a loose screw
Quake and Shake I have been meaning to ask you some questions about the NQ. Are there any optional wheels and tires possibly from another truck you can fit on?? And I can't seem to get the brakes right they seem to be kinda on the weak side. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We opened my sons gift a bit early to break in the engine and my neighbors have a T-MAXX and after we broke the motor in we ran it outside in the front yard and he brought his out and we had a tug of war after he claimed our car was junk. We tied the two together and got out the slack and let em rip. Needless to say he lost bad after the NQ dragged his truck for a good 10 feet before stoping it was hilarious my son was overjoyed. The T-Maxx got pullled so hard it did a wheelie and fell over backwards. This truck is very powerful stock and I am really pleased with it no strippped gears yet. Do you have any suggestions on a spare parts list for my tool box to prevent downtime if I damage it.
Thanks,
Zion

Zion stiffer springs for sure Duratrax has them for the NQ. Get like some extra body posts. Also a spare spur gear that is if you dont want to get a steel one. There is a hop-up called a TORSEN center diff ($70) it comes with a steel spur gear. It is the #1 hop-up for the NQ I feel. It helps out power wise and keeps the front tires from ballooning.
You could also just fill the center diff will silicone to lock it up Ive read of other NQ owners doing so, but I not try that way.
On the brakes that is pretty tricky still takes me a while to set if I have to mess with it for any reason.
First thing I did was GET RID OF THE SET SCREWS. They sem to strip easily. I bought some cap screws to replace them So as to be able to use a 2.5mm allen wrench.
I start by tightening the rear brakes. Set them by applying the brakes holding one rear tire then trying to spin the other rear tire. Once I have it to where it is just firm enough to barely spin (make sure it slips a little bit dont want it locked) I tighten the srews go to the front.
Start the fron the same way BUT the trick is if you tighten the front TOO much the rear is now loose. I slowly move the front lever a little at a time tighten the screws then recheck the rear brake pressure. Repeat until the Front & rear brakes have equal resistance but not locked up. You want to be able to just spin one tire at each end with some effort. This way the front and rear work together to stop the truck and less strain on the internal gears.
Other hop-ups I use the Racing clutch shoes & springs This helps out with acceleration the springs are stiffer causing engagement to be at a higher RPM.
Tires. I know some that use MP tires and rims Ofna has MP rims with 19mm hubs like the NQ has. The MP rims work with other tires like USA-1,clod tires, Pro-line Giant Trac. There was a RCCA article that listed what tires fit what rims.

I hope there is room to add a second brake disk, it looks like it's gonna need the extra stopping power.

Duratrax claims 44 mph out of the box, but I don't see it happening with a Torq .21

I gave out the speed 44mph. I was told by a Duratrax rep, from the big hobby show in Chicago, that they had clocked the TQ at 44mph. This does NOT mean they CLAIM 44mph. I dont know the nitro % or weather or surface conditions they tested on. With the gearing and tire size of the TQ (plus compared to my NQ) it seems likely that it could reach that speed or in that general area 40+ with the Torq21. Remember RCCA tested the MAX MT PRO It has a 2speed with only a .16 size engine much smaller tires. RCCA clocked that at 43mph.
