If you have trouble with your trans, don't take it apart until all else fails. I had mine apart 8 times for no good reason, the problem was binding in the shift rod. Work on that first, take your time and get it right. My trans is working perfect now. With everything set up right it's a joy to drive. This truck is all I hoped for and more!!!

Have any of you replaced the stock engine? Which motors will fit? I think that a Picco .15 Pullstart or a .15 CVR-X OS would fit the truck perfectly. Also, what do you guys think of the stock radio gear. Thank you!

Terra Crusher
05-11-2002, 06:49 PM
they just came out with a .21 motor for it . myself i think the .18 is plenty for me! i beleive it is at newera.com?as far as the radio gear ..... i've had no problems at all, it's been very good up till now.maybe an upgrade would be nice ,but for now i like the package.good luck

What is the matter Usagi? Where are your big virtual testicles today? I guess you don't want to know the truth about a situation you "mouthed-off" about a few weeks earlier. After reading through this entire forum it is apparent you love to play the "big-man-on-campus", but in reality we both know you have no direct influence or inside information about the hobby industry. Bottom line, you are nothing more than a legend in your own mind.

Well it does seem your got a bit of a resentment towards me. But sorry to say this, most owners did not get the TC during april like you PROMISED! Sorry 4 to 6 weeks for shipping just does not cut it!
I stick by all my details I posted here on RCCA (about the TC and all my other info I posted on this site), if you don`t believe me WHO CARES!.........
Well Sir, I see and hear way more out here in Tokyo Japan then you ever will! Dream on...........flame away ! Because your thoughts are just like your junkmail actions to poor unknowning people on your mailing list!............. spam!

Nice try :D

This is actually PeteV, but my computer is down. Scotty couldn't fix that mofo right now.

As Yoda would say, "Begun this flame war has". Let's all be cool! Hate leads to the dark side. Play nice, or the next thing you know you're stuck inside a stinky black helmet, cutting your son's hand off, and getting your butt kicked by Ewoks.

Calm down ppl . This is a Terra Crusher forum and it is to talk bout the TC not argue. Anyway, what frequency or channel is the TC on? My brother wants to get one and he wants to run it with me and my buddies t-maxxs'. And if it is on the same channel as my t-maxx how could you change it? help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Dr Doug.....

Sorry to hear about your trouble. It sounds like your first gear one-way-bearing is slipping. To fix this problem exchange the one-way-bearing from the internal clutch with the first gear one-way bearing and loosen the slipper clutch.

That is such BS! You know anything about that FRAT transmission? Guys go to Terra crusher forum (http://www.terracrusher.net/) for real solid information. Theres lots to be done with that tranny, and its not really as much linkage as most are saying it is! Also did you ask him if 2nd gear shifted and held? That would rule out the one way bearing, and need to address the fwd clutch, and bell. I like what you are "trying" to do, but maybe investigate it more, and if you got the tranny apart, loctite the screws that mount to the alum 2nd gear bell.

BTW I post under Hyper Man there.

Not an attack Dr. but more of a guidance in that know what you are talking about b4 you post!

i want a terra crusher, but i have some questions.

Is it a good car for beginers?
how long can it run on 1 tank of gas?
how big is the gas tank?
would there be a better monster truck to get?

please reply.................

hdcchrome
07-07-2002, 02:01 PM
rc trucker,

Is it a good car for beginers? I WOULD SAY IT IS A GOOD "TRUCK" BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRIC START AND RTR, BUT YOU WILL NEED TO LEARN HOW TO REPAIR IT WHEN IT BREAKS, AND IT WILL, THEY ALL DO WHEN YOU RUN THEM INTO A CURB 100MPH:):)

how long can it run on 1 tank of gas? THERE WOULD BE NO ANSWER FOR THIS. YOU COULD IDLE FOR 15 MINUTES, OR RUN IT HARD FOR 5 MINS.

how big is the gas tank? YOU NEED TO GO TO THE TAMIYA WEB SITE AND READ ABOUT THE TRUCK. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/rc/18factoryassembledglowengine/43501/specs.html

would there be a better monster truck to get? I HAVE TWO OTHERS (EK4 AND NITRO QUAKE, AND I STILL WANT THIS ONE
:D

Is it true that you have to break-in the trans as well as the engine.

how many ounces is 150cc?

guver
07-09-2002, 10:05 AM
5.0271 oz. = 150cc = 150 ml

multiply cc by .033814 to obtain oz.
multiply oz. by 29.57353 to obtain cc

i am really considering buying this truck but i dont know if i should get it or a t-maxx. ive heard alot of tranny slipping on this car and that the foward brake and reverse being only with a 2 channel radio can make it harder to drive. i really want the truck that has an easy to tune engine, one that i can just go out and enjoy without adjusting it every 5 seconds and i want the one with a better reverse because i think that reverse is a really fun feature on a truck. thanx for ur input.

Some people have a slipping tranny problem, but I've had my TC for 3 months with absolutely no problems... If you have questions I suggest you go to terra-crusher.com, its a site all about TCs and has forums, you can ask so questions or read up. I recommend the truck also because its a load of fun, everytime I see it, I can't get over how huge it is:D ! Even though there are some reported problems, there are some easy fixes, and if you want to get drastic you can get a FOC conversion. Check out the site, post a ? if you want.

also, despite what alot of people think, there are alot of mods and hop-ups out. Check out rcraven.com or neweramodels.com. From new era i got a 2 needle carb, a bigger header, and some tougher springs... its a jumping king right now. Also you can get a bigger heat sink, aluminum control arms, full roll cage etc.

i've had mine for little over 3 months now and no real problems aside from tuning which every nitro needs anyway. when this truckshifts into second gear it screams. buy this one!!!:D :D also the fuel tank is huge i get a good 12 - 13 mins out of a tank.

Good luck RC!

I hope yours goes better than mine! I have first gen TC, and its still a nightmare! I like the look and ease of running, but the tranny slipps! I have rebuilt the tranny 15 times and am a pro with this truck, but it just starts to slip whenever it wants to. I bought it to beat on as my EK4 is too precious to get real rough with! If you go on Terracrusher.net Im Hyper man over there. Ive vented there a bit. Now Im going to loose the reverse and just try and get full time FORWARD! From brakes to reverse is a bit sketchy anyways. It just isnt setup to be able to get on the brakes hard. I ported my FS .18, and I run an OFNA 2 needle carb. It has much more bite on the low end with the carb, and a bit more pepier on the high with the porting. I wish the tranny didnt slip! Any questions with the TC I can probally answer most of them! I dont know why I still tinker with this thing.....maybe it was me launching off some sick jumps and this thing handling it like a dream! Enjoy it, cuz when it does run its fun! Almost time for a .21 though! a 12 pound truck needs a bit more motor than the .18!

Has anyone seen any videos of the Terra Crusher perform wheelies like a Mad Force or a Ek4?

I have downloaded 300mb of video clips and have yet to see a video show the Terra Crusher do a wheelie... is it really that slow compared to a Mad Force?

Im in the hang of choosing a Mad Force or TC!!! Help!!!!

MAXXEDMEX
07-31-2002, 04:42 PM
No wheelies. Truck to heavy and to well balanced. Just the most durable, best handling & the funnest truck you can buy right out of the box. Plus it cost the same as a T-Maxx. If you got a dremel & a .21, you can make it a big block . It handles the extra power quite well from what I hear...Everyone with a .21 in it says it was made for big block power.. Buy it!! you wont be disappointed.

RCtinkerman
08-05-2002, 08:50 PM
Hey Dude, the Mad Force is a 1/10th scale truck with .21 engine while the TC is a 1/8th scale truck with a .18 engine. Given the size to weight ratios and engine outputs, of course the Mad Force would be faster. But, speed is not everything. ;)

Ethan2k

I finally got my Terra Crusher after spending a week or so trying to decide on whether to get the TC or Mad Force!

Its finally arrived in Australia just two days ago. I was going to hold off for a Mad Force but I just couldnt wait.

One of the main reasons of choosing the TC is that it comes with everything including high torque servos. I figured if I was to buy the MF, i'll have to spend an extra $300-$400 on it!

As for me, I dont have an unlimited budget so naturally I chose the TC. I hope it is as fun as you guys say it is!

One other question. Before I run it, what are some things I should do?

Cheers,

Ethan

I don't know but everytime I look at Mad Force picks it looks like they through it together with spare parts. I really wanted a mad force but am glad I bought the TC. The only parts I have broken on my TC is one universal axle shaft and that was because the slipper was set to tight. The mad force also has that sphagetti noodle 2 link suspension design that makes it sloppy at speeds and the shocks have no damping action because they are laid back to much.

I just picked up TC on Tuesday, After getting the Razor XT last weekend.

I'm looking forward to breaking it in this weekend and then finding a nice dirt trail somewhere, where I can do some crawling and some jumping.

After looking at all the option out there (tmaxx2.5 and Dominator) I'm happy that I got the TC and its as simple as it looks like alot of fun....just plain fun.

In addition, I was at AHC/Megatech and they have an all metal Chasiss availible and it looks great...I'm waiting to have a reason to purchase it....and it remind me of the Tmaxx chasiss.

happy trails everyone

Usagi..... you appears to be from Tokyo. I come to Tokyo regularly and have recently bought my TC there, but I only know one shop in Akihabara, can you tell me where else I could go (and perhaps cheaper prices? (my TC was bought at 52,000 yen - US$420).

I usually stay around the Hamasutcho station area (one stop from Shimbashi) so Akihabara is a few stops on the Yamanote line.

Any help will be appreciated

i've had the tc for over half a year already, it was a difficult experience breaking in the transmission and engine. i find the engine a little weak for the monster. otherwise, its a wonderful truck with everything nicely thought out. 1 thing is that the front end doesn't bottom out as compared to the rear end, but i guess most of the tc's weight is at the back anyway. here's a pic one day after a muddy run.

Well, if my memory serves me right (and since I just finished making a custom 1 piece chassis for mine), if you were to get and extra front skid, steering bellcranks, and bellcrank uprights, and did a little Xacto trimming on the braces, you shold be able to duplicate the front steering setup, flip the outboard hubs (so the tie rods are not on the rear), and either rig up a linkage to the front servo saver (I wouldn't recommend that) or figure out how to mount a servo in the rear under the engine (don't know how the heck you would do that, unless you made a custom chassis and put the gas tank up front, then you'd have space). Or, I'm sure there's a cheap'o way of doing from the rear bumper skid.....

cbr74, thanks for the reply!

The following is directly from the Tamiya website, in the TC section:

"The higher the percentage of nitro, the more power the fuel is capable of producing. However, this also results in higher engine temperatures if the engine is not tuned properly. Therefore, it is important to break in a new engine with NO MORE THAN 15 PERCENT NITRO FUEL. If you are unfamiliar with nitro engines and fuel, consult your local hobby dealer for a high grade, low nitro percentage fuel."

Notice the "NO MORE THAN 15 PERCENT NITRO FUEL" part for break-in? I understand that a higher percentage of nitro will cause higher temps.....but what happened to the "rule" about breaking an engine in with the percentage you're going to run AFTER break-in? (IE: break-in with 20%, run it on 20%....break-in with 15%, RUN IT AT 15%??? Don't do break-in with 15%, then run 20%, etc, etc.....)

I have 2 quarts of 20% that I don't want to waste....mainly because the price of fuel over here (Germany) is about 13 or 14 DOLLARS a liter!!

I'm sure the warranty will be voided if the engine is broken-in using a percentage NOT recommended by Tamiya....

Any thoughts or advice??? Should I break-in with 15% and stick to that, or break-in with 20% and hope for the best??

Thanks!

Maybe tomorrow will give me a chance to get some more run time in.

EPIC .18 engine KICKS A$$!!!
I bought the EPIC .18 engine for my Terra Crusher and the engine KICKS A$$!! I have had it for a week know and it is very easy to tune and keep running. It out runs my friends Terra Crusher with a .15 CV-RX engine with no problem, and my other friends Terra Crusher with a Fantom 03 .15 engine. It also keeps up pretty well with my other friend Terra Crusher with an OFAN Hyper .21 engine. The cheapest place to buy it is: https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/...rt.pl?pn=EP1800 or https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/...rt.pl?pn=EP1801 I bought the one with the rotary carb.

I just bought a Terra Crusher and I haven't even started it yet. This truck seems alot nicer than the T-maxx I had, and alot bigger too. I hope that reliability is not going to be an issue. The reason I bought the 2.5 Maxx first was the availability of parts, but I had a terrible time trying to tune that 2.5 engine and so I sold it on ebay.

Some guys are going to hate me for this, but I am just plain bored with T-maxxes, everybody has one and they are puny compared to the Terra crusher. The savage is as big, but the old pull starter hanging off the side of the engine gave me flashbacks to my nitro rs4. All I have to say about the X-factor is that solid axels don't even work very well in real monster trucks. All the other trucks I looked at were just buggies with big wheels and truck bodies.

Tamiya and I go back along way, so I am just hoping I made a wise decision, even though it was based on biased prejudgements and pure impulse.

At least I enjoy squishing the suspension around on my coffee table while I watch old Knight Rider reruns.

Everyone let me know how you have enjoyed your Terra Crushers!!!
