At the requests of a lot of racers looking for info, setups and detail on Schumacher Products I am starting this thread to serve as a clearing house for information. This thread focuses on Sedans but we will start an Off Road and Nitro Thread if the need arises.

A lot of the people you will see posting on this thread are either Factory Schumacher Drivers or long time fans of Schumacher Cars. We will do everything they can to get you up to speed.

I'm trying to get the word out about this board so we can get some of the really good content from www.rctech.net here too.

Good Idea. Probably 80% of the top posters here on this board also frequent RCTech.net. They seem to be the premier forums for the R/C car/truck industry.

Annyone know if there is/will be an alloy version of the 17 tooth pulley for the mission?? Also, since I blew up this gear...does anyone have 48 pitch gearing suggestions for the car with a stock motor and the stock spur gear?? I run on a tight carpet track with rubber tires! If I can't get gearing for the 20 tooth pulley, I will be out for a while until parts come in!

Thanks

Cyber, you can run the 20 with a 24/86, that's what Adrain recommended to me so go with it.

Hitec Hs300BB servo
acoms radio
Yokomo Rx7 shell
ally motor plate
Jaco blues all round

There will be 17 and 20 alloy pulleys very shortly. If you look in the speed secret section of the parts list in the instruction manual you will find the part #'s there.

This is Paul Wynn's setup from Cleveland:

Front:
Shock tower-1
Upper Hub Ball-2
Steering arm-2
Upper a-arm mount-1
Lower suspension arm-1
Hinge pin mount-2 deg
Oil-80wt
Spring-40lb
Piston-1 hole on stock piston
Spacer-none
Length-67mm
Droop-1mm
Anti-Roll Bar-Thick Schumacher
Castor-2mm shim in back and the rest forward
Toe in-0 deg
Ride Height-4mm
Camber-1 deg
Lower wishbones-stock, rear position
Driveshafts-steel
Tires-Jaco Plaid

Rear:
Shock tower-2
Upper Hub Ball-2
Upper a-arm mount-1
Lower suspension arm-1
Hinge pin mount-2 deg
Oil-80wt
Spring-35lb
Piston-2 holes on stock piston
Spacer-none
Length-67mm
Droop-1mm
Anti-Roll Bar-Stock
Anti-squat-none, blocks flat on chassis
Toe in-2 deg
Ride Height-4mm
Camber-1 deg
Lower wishbones-stock, mid position
Driveshafts-steel
Tires-Jaco Purple

This was my first race with the Mission, so I'm sure there will be a few more tweaks to the setup to improve it.

I've called yall before for help, but in general I dont like the phone, and I felt like I was buggin yall (I was the one who called last week and yall got bogged down trying to convert losi pistons to schumacher pistons :o )

Anyway I need to know what effects are brought about when just the rear oil is changed in the CAT. I want a minor change to free the rear end up a little. Thanks

Rick of England
01-03-2002, 08:57 AM
Could an Axis one be converted into a CAT? The CAT 3000 is So expensive for what is basically old technology when compared to the dominating Pradators and XX4's.

AdrianM
01-03-2002, 06:28 PM
007-Heavier oil in the rear will free the rear up a bit. So will stiffer springs. Its all a bit of a balancing act as you have to keep you car jumping well and not have too muck steering.

Rich-You will end up spending a much to convert an Axis as a new Cat 3000 kit will cost. FYI, The XX-4 is older than the Cat 3000. FYI 2, at a race this weekend in the UK we won against Team Losi drivers testing the new XXX-4 Prototypes and XX-4's.

Taz_S
01-03-2002, 06:59 PM
AdrianM: was that a Eruo style track or more of a US style track?

AdrianM
01-04-2002, 01:50 AM
Taz-I'm sure it was like a bumpy putting green. The UK has a climate like western Washington state, cool and rainy. Clay tracks are impossible to maintain. However, at the 2001 Winter Champs in FL Our top drivers qualified 2nd and 5th in the A Main.

Teemu finished 3rd behind Jukka and Brian Dunbar. Off road is not a big focus for Schumacher right now. As a result we don't sponsor US off road drivers. Thats why you don't see a lot of Cats at big races. It's kinda a shame. The current car has a better drivetrain than the XX-4 and the suspension has been optimized for the big air tracks we have in the US.

007yoshi
01-06-2002, 02:49 PM
Yeah my Cat is the quietest car at my track and I never have any drivetrain problems unlike the xx4 drivers here.

Rick of England

Has anyone got a carpet foam setup for good turn in and cornering speed with a healthy balance of grip? I need to know what to change. I'm running an Axis two with 24 mm blue foamies, stock blue springs with stock oil, laydown back standup front. How should I set the droop. Also, the tock springs seem too firm for that weight oil. What weight can I go up to for an aggressive drive? 80? 60?

AdrianM
01-07-2002, 12:37 PM
Rick-Try Paul's setup listed above. You may also want to add an Axis Pro top plate to your Axis 2 for racing on Foam tires.

I have a question for you! We get a lot of setups from English drivers using Blue and Double Blue foam tires. Are exotic compounds (Purple/Orange, Double Purple and Purple) not available in the UK? The suspension setting are usually very soft also. One could not be competative in the US with out exotic foam tires and our tract are soo high traction our cars (all brands) would fly off the track unless we used stiff springs and heavy oil.

i really appreciate all of your guys input
keep it going
i bought a beat sst 2000 from e-bay
(this guy must have had a million dollar camera cause it looked good)
after a few calls to schumacher i was up and running
i liked that car so much that now i went out and got 2-axis 2's
one is stock & one is tricked out

the tricked out one: i would like to take a moment to publicly thank "Travis Lewis "
for the great deal and unbelievable follow up in helping me set this car up Travis Lewis is from Texas and races at http://www.kinetixrc.com/ i cant thank him enough.

Thanks for the kind words Dion.

We just had a great race weekend at the 2002 Snowbird national in Florida. 660 entries and lots of wins/solid runs for the Mission drivers. If anyone need carpet setups for the Mission call us!

Rick of England

Usually our carpet tracks are smaller, and hard setups can be twitchy. Generally people use loads of exotic compounds, its just they are more expensive over here. I think the current fashion for soft suspension is because if you have a car which is easier and more fun to drive, you can drive more quickly. i for one don't have the skills to handle a very sharp setup at the moment. Does the Axis 1 top plate cause exxcessive tweak? I may get the Carbon Fibre one at some point.

Rick of England
02-21-2002, 05:15 PM
Also, why do so many people use the steel outdrives? For durability? I'm hardly the best of drivers and my composite ones hold up fine to the occassional bump or cut up. Titanium racing do a nice Ti set tho - just £30 in the UK.
I have been very pleased with the quality of my shu. Plastic parts are much stronger, better designed and have fewer flashings than moldings from HPI or Losi.

AdrianM
02-22-2002, 10:39 AM
Rick-The Snowbirds setup is a lot softer than our usual US setups. WE are finding the Mission likes softer setups than the SST/Axis cars.

Reasons for steel outdrives:

1. People that have raced in the US and Europe (Spashett, Cryul, Baker, Teemu) all say that for some reason US carpet tracks have way more traction than UK/Euro tracks. I don have a good explintion as to why this is but it is certainly true.

2. Until recently we have also had no motor limit. Now we have a 10 turn limit at some races.

3. We are running more and more carpet races on foam tires.

Under the above conditions the plastic outdrives are not ideal. They wind up under power. With perfect traction the plastic outdrives can twist/flex almost 90 degress. This can lead to an inconsistant handling car. The steel drives eliminate this problem.

On low traction tracks plastic outdrives can absorb shock and help maintain traction.

Rick of England
02-22-2002, 11:58 AM
Aaah. The steel outdrives would be a little pointless for me. My track is ozite, but people use too much additive, and it is greasy. i have enough grip, I would just like to hold more speed in the middle of the corner. I want to make my axis handle as well as a TC3 :D

Hello Guys

Sorry to bother you but i have just bought a nitro big 6
and i would be very gratefull for any setups for this car,
I am hopeing to get a big 6 racing class started at my
local club which has just had a tarmac track laid. We
are hopeing it will be popular as the next nearest track
will be 100 miles further to travel.
Here is what i have done to my nitro big 6 up to date
shocks off my axis, rear anti roll bar,
turnbuckle set, soft comoound tyers,
stronger servo saver.
Thankyou for any input.

I just read the RCCA article about the Mission Carbon and it looks like a great car. I will be getting a TC as soon as my tax return arrives and I was going to get a XXX-S until I saw this article. What I want to know is if this car is really as good as they say it is? I like the greater adjustablility of the Mission Carbon as well as the chassis being totally made out of woven graphite. I bet it won't need many hopups either...I was planning to get $75+ in hopups if I got a XXX-S.

Thanks for the info

Ok, anyone out there...
A few more questions...Firstly, I went to my LHS yesterday ane they said that Schumacher's cars are some of the best in the world, but in the US, parts support isn't all that good, you have to get parts direct. I'm looking at Schumacher's website right now, and it appears that getting parts won't be all that bad online, but that also depends on where they are shipping from. If they ship in the US it won't be too much of a prob.

Thanks again,
Talon

The Game
04-12-2002, 10:31 AM
Well parts support isn't a problem IF you lhs gets off their butts and places the order in a timely fashion. Ottherwise you can call Schumacher USA directly, or speedtech rc has parts also. Schumacher USA is located in Florida, so most shippments shouldn't be more than 4-5 days, probably 3 days to PA.

talon51
04-15-2002, 11:10 PM
Sorry to disappoint you Schumacher fans, but I decided to get a XXX-S instead. It was cheaper, had more hopups and I can get parts almost anywhere I go...
Its a good car, and if more aftermarket stuff was available, I would have gotten it for sure.

Thanks for the reply,
Talon

The Game
04-16-2002, 12:33 AM
Sorry to disapoint you talon, but the XXX-s needs more aftermarket support, TRUST ME I own one also and it is way more fragile, and heavier too. Don't get me wrong, I like my XXX-s , but when I enter an organized race I never turn to the losi. Besides you will never know what you are missing, until someone shows up with a Mission and hands you your ...... Just kidding... enjoy your new car!!

talon51
04-17-2002, 02:21 PM
Well, if things don't work out with the XXX-S, then I'll sell it and get the Mission...When I meant aftermarket parts, I meant that Losi makes more hopups and stuff for it, plus I can get parts for it almost anywhere I race.
The Mission is a good car, I agree with you on that, and if I get my (well you know) handed to me by one, I'll probably join Schumacher Racing...

Hey all,

well, I bought an SST Sport today, will probably be here next week (I really hope)..
Any things I should pay particular attention to? I do not see much mention of it anywhere, wonder why..
I have a Kyosho le mans pro high torque 16T, looking forward to run the Sport with it..

Hey KidPaddle.
you bought a great car and should not worrie with it. i've got a sst99pro that is almost the same car that the Sport version and i never had problems with it. I think this one is made of steel considering the way i run it....:D
I reccomend just one upgrade.. The aluminium suspension bodies and springs.

Adrian,
I'm on my 3rd Steering servo for the Nitro Fusion. Any good servos you can recommend? My last one was a hitec hs525mg. Haven' t has any major crashes with the car----maybe less than 5mph head-on colission----
On both occassions the servos broke. The stock one stripped some gears and the second one seems to be an electronic issue.

Any word on any new hopups comin out for the fusion? I ordered the alloy hub carriers and and steel drive shafts--but you guys are out of stock..

TIA,
Jun

Hey guys, Well i just bought a SST2000 off of e-bay and it's in great shape. But being as this is my first touring car and not big into on-road cars, I'm looking for some help with dialing this bad boy in. Its currently set up to run on carpet tracks, with soft rubber tires. But I'm wanting to primarly run this car on paved parking lots. Any tire suggestions? and some setup tips? thanks a lot!

Axis 2 Pro Carbon Edition, This car is fully optioned with alumimum threaded shocks, alumimum Transmission housing, alumimum front and rear bulkheads, alumimum body post mounts,
alumimum universal spure gear mount, and Rpm Ball cups.

Other features are Carbon Graphite Chassis minor scratches ,a spare S1 Carbon Chassis, and a X Graphite Battery hold down strap. Comes with lots of springs, and spare suspension arms and much more.

im new to on-road so would it use a 190mm or 200mm shell?

thanks

Can anyone tell me if there is a real difference between different body shells?

I really would like a Vauxhall Astra BTCC or Vauxhall Vectra shells from proline for my Mi2. Everyone at the track is pushing me to get the Parma Alpha or the Mazda 6.

I have had other shells like the BMW GT and lotus and I can't tell the difference. It seems like there are so many other setup options and influences like the right tires, that the shell does not really matter.

I keep reading about how this shell "is oh so quick" or this one is better on carpet or this one is better on asphalt -- does the shell given how fast these cars run actually make that big of a difference?

I see the fast guy at the track sometime when his practicing with his HPI Pro 4 run without a shell and AMB transponder shows he is almost as fast.

Is a shell a tuning option? Oh yeah, then how do I tune using different shells?

KTRTS
08-09-2004, 06:47 AM
I have been using a HPI murcielago shell. It has no rear grip :( With the shell off it's fine; put it on and it handles like a cow on crack...

Getting ready to spay a protoform M3, so I hope I have better luck :D

SARacer
08-09-2004, 04:46 PM
i say the Protofrom Alpha is the best shell that i have used before. It has lots of traction.
The shell does play a very important part in tuning because it has to be aerodynamic and provide downforce for more traction without producing drag.

Schumacher Mission... This is one rolling chassis and 85% of a second one, mostly still in stapled kit bags. The second unused kit includes the full carbon chassis, the diffs, a front one-way. Basically, all I've scavenged are the upper control arms, the 17T pulley, the belts and some screws. The rest of the kit is intact! I need to consolidate, and since my son loves his XXX-S, I'd like to sell the Mission outright, or trade for a XXX-S with some extra goodies (aka spare parts!) so he and I can race the same vehicle and save $$$ on spare parts stock. By the way, there are 3 sets of shocks for the cars. As the saying goes, no reasonable offer will be refused!

Think about it and PM me if anyone interested.

Off to Dreamland,
