i think its about time that there was a desert storm thingy.
i love them. they r the best truks on earth.
u never see them in any races because ther so FAST - 70 completely stok! an they wood just whipp the xxxnt's and gt's!!!!
the desert storm is a blast to drive and i just love mine!
im about to get the three speed hop up.

First I like to say that I love my truck, but stock it does not come to 1/10 truck like GT's and XNT's. So speed is not everything, handling also counts.!!!!!!!

BTW
I had this truck since 1998 when they first came with the .21 engine. Now my truck is all modified, to the engine, chassis, trans, shocks(RC10GT), and finally the gas tank(Mugen 125cc). All leads to a clocked speed of 67.6mph.

Tips
Never have a AM radio on this truck, only FM. Take my word for it.!!!!!!!

Here a pic.!!!!!

this thing will be mad with the three speed tranny and it will definately be able to do well over 70
i just love chasing cars with my desert storm!!!!
i had only just got my desert storm and i had just finished braking it in the week before and i had set it a little rich so i could gradually increase the speed.

anyway one guy was doing about 40 on this backroad behind my house and i had just started my car as he turned round the corner, the guy went along the road at about 40 and i let my desert storm idle for a few seconds then i raced after him at abot 30. the guy didnt notice me trying to follow him and then he started to brake and turn into his own driveway - i was done! i slammed on the brake and 360'd into his left rear tire and there was this "thud" - - - the guy stopped and got out and before i actually got a chance to pull away he actually picked the car up with his left hand touching the rear tires and he started yelling at me like "what the :@>? do you think ur doing" and all that. i got pi$$ed and maxed out of his hand!! his had got burnt by the tire and he dropped it in shok and to my luk it landed the right way up so i whelied out of ther for a second and then i maxed it up to me. i checked it over and one of the front wheels was craked (i bought some plastic ones for on road tyres) and i just changed them over for some radials.

Roeler, welcome to the forum. I'am gad to see that me and C.O.W are not the only ones with the truck. Roeler if you are looking for hop ups, first change the shocks to the ones on RC10 GT. Next is the mugen 125cc fuel tank. And then add the speed.!!! And if you think I'am playing, I modified the hole truck, including the engine(hp is like 2.6 or 2.7). And with the single speed I'am good for 67.6mph.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW
C.O.W, I don't have the desert storm, I have the Nitro .21 xtreme that came in 1998. In 2000 they change the name to XTR. Tomorrow I'll take some more pics of the chas.!!!!!!!

Can't wait for 3-speed, looking for 90.!!!!!!!:D

roeler
01-18-2002, 02:00 PM
i just added 50wt to my order list
thx
but the hole in the chassis...

line 1 lug up with the steering pivot remove nut and bolt then replace with a longer screw. the 2nd lug nearest engine i just used a thin hollow tube and a long screw .and nut

your list is fine but you may have to wait awhile for the 3 speed box we in england were told they were available almost 6 months ago and we are still waiting .
YOU DO HAVE TT TRANSMISSION ?(RIGHT)
getting back to the fuel tank it costs 10 pounds
DID YOU MANAGE TO DRILL YOUR CHASSIS ?
if you are still having problems starting your truck consider buying a inline primer some people hate them but i have used them with no problems in fact im still using one today because sometimes it takes awhile for the fuel to reach the chamber

roeler
01-20-2002, 04:20 AM
thx
I still have to drill the chassis but i think the black exhaust tube will be blocking the 3speed so i'll probably wait and i dont race yet so it isnt that important

i do have the tt transmission i think, cuz i have the latest version of the car (ibought it onthe 29th of sept.)

And where online can i buy the fuel tank or can you give the exact name/specification so i can order it at my lhs

thanks for the help b willis

roeler
01-20-2002, 06:50 AM

I am interested in buying either one of these or a thunder tiger ek4. The deciding factor will be how easy it is to get replacement parts. Have you had a difficulty getting any parts? And how durable are the xt-r's

b willis
01-20-2002, 12:21 PM
IF ANYBODY IS UNSURE WHETHER THEY HAVE THE NEW TRANSMISSION OR NOT HAVE A LOOK AT THE GEARBOX HOUSING WHERE THE DRIVE SHAFT EXITS IT IS EMBOSED WITH THE WORDS TT TRANSMISSON .IF THE HOUSING IS BLANK YOU HAVE THE OLD STYLE TRANSMISSION AND WILL NEED TO BE UPGRADED TO ACCEPT THE NEW 3 SPEED GAERBOX.

WHERE'S COW ON WHEELS? OB4 KID? AND THE REST? I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FORUM TO COMMENT AND TO PASS TIPS ON TO FELLOW XTR21 OWNERS

PARTS ARE NEXT DAY FROM APEX MODELS THE WORLDS LARGEST SCHUMACHER DEALER

hi cow on wheels. the traction is much better now that there is no oil spewing on to the back tyre.but im in a bad mood because i was out with the truck sunday in all that wind and the bloody truck did a backflip landed on its roof and small stone got wedged in between my lovely purple head and the body.result one badly scratched cylinder head. bye for now

b willis
01-28-2002, 03:31 PM
forget about venoms for now.get yourself some proline road hawgs for tarmac use. they seem to last forever (yes even the rear ones).also get a rear turnbuckle set to straighten the rear wheels up for more even tyre wear.the road hawgs come with inserts and are £14 a pair.hope this helps let me know how you get on.

cow on wheels
01-29-2002, 12:22 PM
so has n e 1 actually got n e venoms???????
r they good?????

how did u bend the pipe so it faces down???????

i speak from experience thats why i reccomend the road hawgs having had 4 of these trucks.ive spent a small fortune on tyres which are not cheap when youre replacing every 2 or 3 weeks like i was.trust me the road hawgs will last a very long time and are simply the best street tyre out there. but its your money

Try useing a os max [no 8] or a enya [no 3]
these two plugs work well with 10% nitro

do you guys use glowplug after glowplug
how long do u do with one glowplog

b willis
02-07-2002, 04:22 AM
if you use a good plug like os or enya you should get at least 1/2 a gallon out of a glowplug depending on the conditions.
what fuel are you using?

roeler
02-07-2002, 10:50 AM
10% tornade fuel.
i'll ask the lhs to give me one of the glowplugs you said.

Jesus, how do you people controll these things? I finished breaking mine in today and tuned it for power, wow, what power it has, it pops wheelies at nearly any speed.

If you full throttle it you have no chance of keeping it in a straight line, this thing makes my T Maxx look like a snail, wow, wow, wow.

Right now i have a question, What are the best tyres to get for it, it wont be used on road and i want something with more grip, any ideas ?

Wow, wow, wow, :)

hi beg4it. welcome to the (xtr21 nitro enjoy).you will soon get the hang of the truck try putting the power on gently and build up your speed slowly till you get used to it. i use proline dirt hawgs for off road use they come with foam inserts and cost about £13 a pair. ENJOY

These things should be 4 wheel drive, there is tooooooooo much power to the rear wheels.

And one last thing, I found out today that they dont float, I must have found the biggest puddle in the whole wide world, and didnt see it, but dont worry, everything dried out and working great now :)

I've read 67 mph with a single speed. Do these trucks come out of the hole slow? I've got a 1/10th scale truck with a .21 and taller tires and it doesn't go 67 mph. That truck must be tough to handle going that fast. Maybe I just need taller gearing.

b willis
02-18-2002, 06:56 AM
the xtr21 is very very quick out of the hole 0-40 in 1.5 sec and pulls strongly up to top speed about 60-65 mph. but you do need good tyres to grip the surface to get the best performance.when the 3 speed box comes out the talk is of nearly 80mph i cant wait:) :)

I've a feeling that when we get the 3 speed, we are going to start to break more things, I went airborne at full speed after hitting a little bump and broke a back wishbone, stick another 20-30 or more MPH on top of that and the crashes will be most spectacular.

Schumacher should start to make more hop-up parts for it.

Ps. its nice when you go out with other rc people with other trucks and leave them standing in your dust.hehe.

beg4it
02-22-2002, 06:56 PM
Turnbuckles, thats the things, I had brain block earlier and couldn't think what they were called, I'll just get them for the front as the back is ok.

As for the 3 speed, i spoke to 3 LHS today.

One said he was told two weeks ago that they would be ready in two weeks, but nothing yet.

Another said they had seen one in person the other day and it was awesom.

And the last said he didn't think schumacher would ever release it for the XT-R as they have been using one for over a year and thought the truck wouldn't handle the speed, plus sales of the XT-R isn't that good to make sales worth while, and they are just going to use it on the touring car when ever that come out.

I also spoke to schumacher a couple of days ago, and they said maybe by the end of the month.

Well thats all I know, take your pick from above and hope its one that we want.

Hey roeler if you get some made and they are good, I'll buy a pair off you.

I dont want to get rid of the XT-R because of broken parts spoiling my fun, but if im going to break wishbones every week i might start thinking that way.

I'll try the alloy pivot blocks this weekend to see if that make any difference.

Schumacher must start to make some more hop-up parts for there models, maybe they would sell more if you could mod their products.

I hope it stops raining soon where you are as your missing fun, well fun until you break something.

Im happy that this is the only part i broke.

so my question is whats the part number for the adjustable turnbuckle set. well i want the six things in metal or titanium.

the 3 speed is dead easy to fit it is just a matter of replacing the old layshaft with the new supplied one and sliding the new gogs and springs on to the shaft. there is no shift point adjustment it is factory set. the truck is a lot faster and there is a lot less strain on the engine.be warned youve got to hit 50mph to see 3rd kick in so you need a big running space:D

well, i dont have any experience with the nitro mt, sorry.
but you say it s your first nitro car, well it was also my first one so i think you could start with the desert storm if wanted.

another thing is when ordering parts you need to chose if u are in europe, america or somewhere else so the part comes from the schumacher building closest to you.
It doesnt take long for the parts to arrive when they have them in stock. I ordered a part from britain (im in belgium) on saterday, they dont work on sunday and i got it by tuesday.
So its fast enough if they have them in stockif not it'll take somethin like a week.

i dont have the three speed yet cuz its not in the online list and i also want to know how its like to drive the car with the 3speed.

hola hermanos!

so glad i just found this forum. i've had the nitro storm for the better part of 2 years now...and have been reinventing the wheel, it appears. who knew there were so many other shumie users out there. (im the only one i know in my neck of n. california)

warning in advance..this will be a rambling lengthy post...coz i got so many questions i've wanted to ask someone over the past years.

spent the better part of an hour reading over all the posts in this thread. makes me embarressed to post any pix. my machine is filthy from running in the dirt....and my blue head is all scratched up (and bent--oops) from many many asphalt tumbles. i DO very much like the looks of that supra body...may make a trip to the shop monday :)

i have the older tranny (non TT) so wont be doing the 3sp conversion any time soon....spend too much on replacement parts as it is :)

here's a good topic for discussion: what setups do you use for street vs. offroad? (i run on a packed dirt track when im not playing on the asphalt in front of the house)

i would be VERY interested in hearing your setups, as mine SUCK! my truck is bone stock except i put on the adjustable turnbuckles.

also, i run the shuie VEE-2 in the front and VEE-4 on the rears in dirt
on the road i run Proline roadhawgs and road rage (cant tell any difference in traction between those two---actually i picked up two different packs at the store by accident. i wanted 4 rages :o )

specifically, i want to hear your suspension setups: which mounting holes you use in the wishbones. i know there are the pro shocks, but cant afford them now...so how do you have the stock shocks adjusted?

on the street, my machine just rocks and rolls TOO EASILY. how did you guys mod your setups to lower the height and stiffen the susp? (i am seriously considering buying an onroad setup if i cant get this thing to handle better on the tarmac)

in the dirt, it just wont hook up. brand new knobbies just put me in donuts. just trying to ease into the throttle puts me sideways in the track 7 times out of 10...makes for very frustrating lap times.

one last thing: do you fellas have trouble with the high speed screw rattling loose due to vibration? i'll get my engine running sweet for about 2 tanks, then it starts getting rich on me...took me a while to figure out, but the screw is on the verge of defecting from my ride altogether! spend another half a tang getting it set again...very frustratin'.

1. Buy the new TT Setup, you'll have less breakage! I used to be buying all sorts of parts for my old XT. I recently picked up a complete new model (yes that's right... 2 XT-R's ;^)) and haven't had any problems yet... and believe me I beat the CR@P out of my trucks!

2. Setups: Here is what I use, not to be confused with what setup is best.... JUST what I use. For street I simply use the stock tires, V-2 front and V-4 Rear. Although I have many different tire setups, the awsome power of the TT .21 makes all the hipe of what the tires are SUPOSED to do obsolete! I can easy burn any tire setup... on the rare ocasion that I do get hooked up, I flip backwards... I could put a wheely bar on but I choose to adjust the clutch to engage almost instantly, so that the RPM's don't get up to high.
For off-roading I LOVE my stock T-Maxx tires for front and rear! They are Proline 2.2" MASHERS and on ocasion I use Proline HAWGS in the rear. Beware that these tires are HUGE and will really get you going on the top end... Make sure that you use foam inserts.

3. Suspension: I do have the Pro Shocks but I don't really think that they make all that much difference... simply because you don't have a lot of "fine control" of the XT-R..... too much power. However, I have mine setup with 40 weight oil and 2 holes open. On the rear, I use 5 rubber o-rings around the shaft to act as a stoper, just in case I bottom out.
I have my shocks connecting to the wishbones in the location nearest the tires, e.g. gives you the widest stance and thus less likely to roll. I use really stiff springs and 3-4 spacers for on-road and soft springs with 1-2 spacers for off road.
For jumping a lot, I move my lower shock mounts to the middle hole (rear) and use the softer off-road springs/spacer setups.

4. You're always going to be burning out on dirt if you have your .21 tuned properly... just the nature of the beast.

5. Your high speed screw shouldn't be coming loose... I bet that either your little o-ring inside the carb is squished up, worn out, or missing all-together. Get a new one regardless... cheap insurance. To do this, just completely remove the screw and look in there with flashlight... I use a dental tool to remove those little buggers.

Hope this helps. Remember that this machine is not tunable like an on-road race car. The suspension is sloppy and not made for awsome handling.... It is purely a fun power mongral to satisfy us POWER HOGS tastes!

Oh.. one other tip that I got off this site that I recently did on my truck is drilling out the hole in the chasis for the exhaust! AWSOME TIP! Noticable difference.

Enjoy.

so glad i just found this forum. i've had the nitro storm for the better part of 2 years now...and have been reinventing the wheel, it appears. who knew there were so many other shumie users out there.

(i am seriously considering buying an onroad setup if i cant get this thing to handle better on the tarmac)

in the dirt, it just wont hook up. brand new knobbies just put me in donuts. just trying to ease into the throttle puts me sideways in the track 7 times out of 10...makes for very frustrating lap times.

one last thing: do you fellas have trouble with the high speed screw rattling loose due to vibration? i'll get my engine running sweet for about 2 tanks, then it starts getting rich on me...took me a while to figure out, but the screw is on the verge of defecting from my ride altogether! spend another half a tang getting it set again...very frustratin'.

thanks for the reply....great tips.

i'll be messing with some of the shock setups after i get her put back together (see below)

i read the original post about drilling out the chassis for the exhaust. didnt get it then, and your description didnt help me much either. maybe im being dense. what am i supposed to drill out and what does it do to affect traction?

btw--here's a link to some pix. you all embarrassed me so much with your photos i decided to giver her a bath. had to pull out the tranny anyway, as i busted a driveshaft yesterday :(

p.s. you cant see ANY of the bodies---theyre thrashed.

Nice cleanup job! I upgraded to the alloy diffs to avoid the job your doing now. They really are tough.

I modified one of your pictures to show you where to drill the hole. You'll have to drill it big enough so the rubber tip will fit through it. You can use the hole closest to the outside of the chasis to start with. You'll want to ream it right up to the edge and towards the back a bit. You'll have to bend the wire that holds the end of the muffler to get it to fit right.

All you have to do is drill out where the yellow circle is , turn your rubber tip down through the hole and trim it off about 1/8" from the bottom of your car (from underneath!)

Keeps the oil from the right rear wheel. Really does work great.

PS. Don't worry about the big hole in the chasis... it is really quite strong.

Also, when you have the thing apart, make sure to flare the tip of the header and front part of the muffler. e.g. zip ties won't be popping off. I also hacked off about a 1/4" from the header.... but didn't make a big difference.

I'm currently working on completly new exhaust system out of copper tubing. Should have something by the end of the week... that is if the weather holds out! MN... never can tell.

picture really is worth 1000 words. that explained everything. thx.

called shumacher u.s. today and ordered a buncha parts to fix my ride. inquired about the alloy driveshafts you mentioned....turns out my tranny is TWO generations old. wont fit without a trans upgrade. so then i asked how much for the TT & 3sp combo.

cough, cough $120 bucks....dang....i should just save up for a whole new buggy.

needless to say, i got the plati-shafts. oh, yeah...those will last a whole nother month

On another note, I just picked up all my parts for the new exhaust system. Just have to figure out how I want to secure it down....... Should be pretty trick. I'll post some pictures when I get it done.... and if it works 1/2 *****, I'll post the directions to build it.

Yet another view of the 3speed and exhaust mod.

I figured by using the speed trap method...

http://www.wildhobbies.com/rc_cars/tips/default.asp?cmd=view&articleid=23

that my car with the new 3speed is doing close to 77 MPH. Comining in on the 100 yard dash at .89 seconds.

This method is a bit scewed for a few reasons...

1. Can't start/stop the stopwatch perfectly...
2. Can't really get my car up to top speed... AM radio doesn't have the range.... and I can't see the darn car from that distance!

Good enough for me though.

seeing the 3 speed fitted and hearing you guys go on about it has made me make up my mind to fit mine, its been sitting in the bag for a week now with lots of other parts.

Is it easy to fit the alloy outer drive cup things what they recommend fitting? I have never taken the transmission apart before and am a little worried if i'll get it back together right.

Thanks.

That twin pipe looks good, but wont the oil build up in the pipe as its going upwards?? I must admit im not the brightest bulb in the house so i dont really know, I did read some post about a system looking the same as that for the T-Maxx and they said dont touch it, not the right back pressure and stuff like that..

Anyway it does look good.

ooOO(I must fit my 3 speed this weekend....)

cudaboy_1971
03-22-2002, 04:03 PM
tuned pipes are a science. race teams spend thousands (full size--i doubt r/c'ers spend thousands...but i dunno) developing the right pipes for their engines to perform at peak.

i suppose if you just want a cool lookin' dual out the back of your ride, there's no *HARM* in making mods like that. i just wouldnt expect any performance gains...in fact theyre sure to make performance worse than with the tuned pipe that came with it.

but, it sure does look b*tchin' :)

cweimaraner
03-22-2002, 05:09 PM
I'm expecting a loss in performance... and I do have 2 complete race pipes for those days that I need the speed.... just messing around is all. I'll tell you this though.... it sounds like a mini V-8!

I'll keep you guys up to speed on the performance.

i havent posted for a while but here i am.
the dual exaust really looks cool but like beg4it said the oil will stay in the pipe, but thats not a reason not to drive it. Only after u drove it you should take of the pipe to release the oil.

i asked the guy for the alloy (front) wishbones and he'll see what he can do. But if totally alloy is too expensive he will look to just make it harder so it wont brake that fast.

and if u dont want to make donuts you should drive in grass. I drive vee2 in front vee4 in back. 50wt oil in shocks and 2 open holes and runs perfect.

Did anyone saw the super maxx in rc nitro?? well i was obsessed by it :)
so i want to make my xtr something like that. totally alloy and i ll probably sell my electric onroad car so i can afford all the parts. :)

and i wont buy the 3speed because not enough place drive and i will brake even more parts then :)

well goodluck with your cars

cweimaraner
03-23-2002, 10:01 AM
I think on the dual exhaust I will make an elbow that has a threaded end on it.... probably directing it out through my existing chasis hole. That way on the last run, I'll remove the plug and drive it a bit to get all the oil out.

Those alloy wishbones sound great. Maybe your friend should make a pattern for them... I know I would be interested in a pair.
Although since I went to the new 2002 model XT-R, I haven't broken a pair yet!

beg4it

Good idea for the pipe, a drain off nipple thing. I bet it does sound good, you cant beat the sound of a nice V8.

Whats different between the 2002 model and the older ones?

roeler, my mate has got a supermaxx, and it looks the bollox.
See if you can get some rear wishbones made in alloy, as they are the suckers that i break, I've never broke a front one yet, but i guess that will change soon.

well the guy contacted me today.

is possible to get them made out of alloy but if i ask them to do, they immediatly make 10. So that are 5 pairs of front alloy wishbones.
1 pair would be something like 25$

Hi
Just bought a desert storm after seeing this thread, fascinating stuff, will be running it in tomorrow, 3 speed on order, I wanted something different as I smashed my Yoko GT4 W sideways into a kerb at about 60 mph, big cost (bits on order) can you believe it, the smoothest carpark in the world, size of a football pitch and I hit the kerb!!!!!!SIDEWAYS!!!!!!!!( If there was no kerbs and a big pole in the middle I probably would have hit that instead!!!)

Anyway just saying HI! I am in the UK, Essex, so if you are local introduce yourself.

i've got pro shocks on the rear of my buggy. i thot i had bent a rod because the motion was not smooth. so, i put in a new one. same problem.

my guess the seal is bad. anyone have any idea how to get that sucker out? on the anodized aluminum shock there's no way to easily get at the seal. any suggestions? i was just gonna get a small screwdriver and try to force it out through the rod hole. is there anything i can damage by doing it that way?

does shoie even sell the seals for the pro shocks? i dont see them on the site. i'll call tomorrow...just thot i'd see if anyone here's replaced them.

Hi 32sport.

Welcome the the crazy world of the XT-R, hope you enjoyed reading the other pages on this thread, there is a lot of useful information on here...

One thing your find with the storm is your have trouble keeping the front wheels on the ground when your broken in and tuned right..hehe.

Your also find your always be stopping and re-fueling, that standard tank is just not large enough.

Be gentle with the stearing and throttle or your be going around in circles all the time, I've had the storm for a while now and am still crap at trying to control it...

I'm on the Suffolk/Essex border, where in Essex are you? I guess you can't be near me as there isn't no smooth large carpark here..lol

Enjoy.

I think trial and error is the thing here, if you have a really good set up with your engine then the front will lift at the smallest blip, has anyone tried moving the battery pack forward?
My guess, and I`m no mathematician, is that with so much torque at the rear wheels you may need loads of weight, better off some sort of wheelie bar, I just bolted some Tamiya bodyposts to my backend, pointing back, still wheelies about an inch or two but the spring in the posts pushes it down really quickly.

roeler

has anyone here fabricated a wheelie bar or ladder bar for their ride.

i feel like a puss, but i just cant keep the thing shiny side up and i'm tired of replacing body posts and body clips.

im thinking of making one out of some really thick guage piano wire and some tiny r/c airplane wheels. my problem is i dont know where or how i should attach it to the chassis. i'd like drill and bolt it to the main body tray. but, it looks like that'd interfere with the rear suspension. maybe into the bottom, metal portion of the battery tray???

does anyone know of a 3rd party company alreay shipping something that i could adapt so i dont have to reinvent the wheel? (literally :) )

roeler
05-08-2002, 04:22 PM
i would just order 2 body posts and the things needed to attach them and then i should attach them to the battery box and rear bumper. There are 2 holes there that are perfect to attach them so they stick out to the back of the car and they can server as wheeliebar.

you can pick one up direct from the importer http://www.racing-cars.com

or you can call them (number's on the website) and they'll tell ya who is a dealer in your area.

too much for a nitro rookie? define too much!

yeah, its fast as hell. yeah yer prolly gonna break some stuff before ya get the hang of it, unless you live on the bonneville salt flats. 35 foot jumps and a coupla concrete curbs has ended the day for me more than once. but, dont let that scare ya off. the speed and acceleration (damn that acceleration!) make the price of admission worth the trip. i dunno about the three speed, but my 1 speed will pull the front wheels off the ground if i gun it at about 45---and flip it w/o the wheelie bar

for the money, all the parts are quality...no plastic bushings where there should be bearings...so dont be fooled by crappy towerhobbies el-cheapo kits. this is the real deal.

if you do get one, put some big-ol proline mashers on it to start off. a bigger tire will keep ya from hookin up to quick out of your hole shot and flippin over on your backside before ya get 10 feet. (dumb ol me had to go completely thru a new lexan body before i learned) --plus a bigger tire means higher top end !!!

and finally, put on the wheelie bar. i talked w/ shuie u.s. yesterday and they said they were expecting a shipment of the new stock 3 speeds with standard wheelie bar installed....so ya should be set. good luck.

Hi,
Im thinkin of getting a desert storm 3 speed, i see on the Schumacher website that they r bringing out the Nitro 21XT-R 3E with a standard wheelie bar, what speeds am i looking at with this set-up.
Is it worth waiting for the 21XT-R 3E or should i just buy a XT-R single speed and fit a 3 speed onto it?

Oh yer, im experienced with Nitro R/C wiv a maxx and a hopped up n.sport.

Wheres the best and cheapest place to get the kit and spares in the UK from?

Please reply as these xt-r's look blingin

BURNOUT. your better off waiting for the latest version to come out with the 3 speed, easy start, wheelie bar. the current model is £219 plus £50 for the 3 speed box. the new version is due out in 2 weeks. on the spares side ive found they are the same price in every model shop i get mine from apex always next day delivery if you phone before 12 noon. when you get your truck the first things youre going to need is venom tyres with inserts and i would hunt about for a bigger fuel tank. also put some weights on the front end. GOOD LUCK.

I don't really like the idea of lugging around a cordless drill to start my truck. Especially after you get it warmed up. The only problem with the pull start is when it is cold, the nitro goos up in the bearing and doesn't want to engage.

So... here is what I think Schumacher/Thunder Tiger should do.

Develope an integrated "Easy-Start/Pull-Start" so you can use the drill to get it going, but when you simply need a quick start, you don't have to use the drill. From looking at it, it should be pretty easy to do.

I have my hands full already with the nitro bottle, glow-plug ignitor and r/c pistol. I'm afraid that adding a tool-belt for the cordless is just to much to bear!

My 2 cents.

2 weeks you say, where should i get it from, who will have the model for sale soonest? I have had an EZ-Start system on a N.Sport and a T-MAXX but i didnt like it at all, i will probably get a pull start as i find them much better.

I will do what b willis did which was put a T-MAXX fuel tank on as they r easy to get hold of, ill prolly keep the truck stock for a while then add some mods onto it.

Can i use proline tyres on instead of Venom as i have a set of Road Rage tyres which i used to use for my n.sport

BURNOUT. ive no idea who will have the truck first maybe apex as they are the worlds biggest schumacher dealers. you can use the prolines no problem just make sure they have inserts. i use the protech fuel tank not the t maxx tank.you asked about speeds in your previous posts mine was clocked by a policeman friend at 78mph and i had to break as i had run out of road this 3 speed box is awsome believe me.

Thanks, a few Q's though:
Where did u get the protech fuel tank from?
Will i need a hi-torque servo for the steering or will a regular £8 one do?
Im guessing i can take the radio gear off my n.sport right?

Hi all,
Hey, I was wondering about changing engines on the Desert Storm. Can any .21 engine be installed or do I have to use the Schumacher engine? I guess what I should be asking is, should I use a pilot shaft version or the "regular" .21 engine? I don't have the Desert Storm as of yet and was looking at upgrading already, but I couldn't find the specs on the engine at the Schumacher site. OVERKILL never hurt anything...too much. LOL!

i dont know why you would want to change the engine. the engine is made by thunder tiger and is bullet proof it also churns out 2.1 hp. to give you an idea how good they are a friend of mine has put close to 13 gallon thru one and it still flies .

nice thot burnout.

everyone please post your FM radio equipment of choice. i'm still running AM in mine....it ran out of range the other day and almost took out a new tahoe sitting in a driveway. i woulda been seriously bummed had i dinged that car.

i think a coupla hundred bucks spent now on *MY* stuff would be better than a few hundred on someone elses.

whadyouall use?

It's time to get a race guard !!Even with the FM you can get out of range and lose control. Most of the new FM's come equipted with low batery warning indicator and are programable. I like the ones that you can program for more than one car. I have the JRRACING XR3 only because it came with my Storm and it is setup for three cars.
