Hi everyone,

I am new to the R/C hobby. I have recently ordered a ready to run E-Maxx from Tower Hobbies. While i am waiting for it to arrive i have been surfing the web trying to learn what i can about what looks to be a fun and pretty deep hobby. I have some confusion on Radios and while i found some informative posts none specifically answered my question. When i ordered my truck it asked if i had a preference for frequency. I chose no just send me what is available. It is an AM radio that comes with the car so it will be in the 27mhz range and will be one of 5 channels (whichever one they have in stock) For use around my house that doesnt seem to be a problem. My question is (whether it is AM or FM) when you get to the track is there any way to adjust the channel you run on so as not to cause interference with other radios? Or do you just have to show up and hope that not too many people have the same channel. How does that work in racing situations? Do you only race against people that happened to buy a radio with a different channel then yours or is there a way to change this quickly. I have not seen anything either in advertisements or in FAQ's that suggest you can just dial in a different channel in your transmitter and reciever. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Usually racers will have 2 or 3 sets of crystals in their tool box so they can just pop in another channel they can to run in case there is a conflict with someone in their heat. The transmitter has a transmitter crystal and the receiver has a receiver crystal. They are usually sold together on the same frequency. I have an odd and an even set of crystals, 68 and 67. Changing them takes all of one minutes. You just pull the old ones out and put the new ones in.

BTW, 27 and 75 mhz channels are not interchangable, nor is AM & FM, although a car running on AM 68 can cause a conflict with FM 68 so only one 68 can run on the track at any given time.
