i had a very oily ek4 until my header bolts fell out. after that i replaced the gaskets and used gasket sealant on each side of the gasket.(must be sealant that is oxygen sensor safe), after that i had no more oil leaks. also, there was two header gaskets installed from factory, so i too used two gaskets..
