Hi all.

After looking extensivley for an off road to have 'fun' with i have had an idea. But first, some history...

I have been racing 1/10 on road for about a year with an HPI modified and the lack of success and money has led me into wanting an offraod. However, with such an influx of what seem to be great off road trucks and buggies i have no idea what to choose. I eventually narrowed it down to either a T-maxx, a Ofna MP or a 1/8 buggy (mp 7.5 sport or somthing). So it was good...

Now it has all changed, because for the last three months i have been really really stuck on what to choose. Then i had a thought. The ofna MP is based on a 1/8 buggy. Hell thats what it is, a buggy with BIG wheels. So what if i could buy a 1/8b buggy ( the mp7.5 or somthing) and then just but a set of ofna rims and tires and then i would have the best of both worlds. I think.

Its a very simple answer to a not so simple question. Knowing this its most probably really stupid but its worth a shot. Any response would be great, rellavent or not.

Thanx,

Richard

The 7.5 uses I think 17mm rims, so a ofna set would fit. But go to the september car action I think for how 2 convert. I know u have to lock the center diff.

Hi.

Thanx for the input. Tmaxxes also have been thought about, but a weedy trx doesnt seem to pull a maxx around like a decent .21 would ever do. Not wanting to have to spend a load on .21 extensions tmaxxes seem less and less appealing.

Are there any other suggestions for somthing off road, for fun not nessecerrily (NO idea how thats spelt) racing. Budget seems to be lying around $500 for everything....i think.

Thanx

Richard

go or it with the best of both worlds, but might i suggest getting the best of 3 worlds??

1. MP7.5
2. 7.5 with MP tires and higher gearing
3. 7.5 with Pirate 10 MT rims and Tmaxx tires :)

its gonna look hella funny having an MP style thing using a normal 1/8 rally cross buggy body....

The offset wheels are going to put an absolute strain on the servos...should be interesting. Its going to need at least +140oz of torque to even get it to steer.

Does anyone have an idea of how good the .21 is that kyosho include with the 7.5 sport? It looks very standard and should be ok but i am total speed / power freak so it might end up being replaced for a C4. But then....for under 500 bux thats not too likely.

Tmaxx anyone?

Hrmm look at the Hyper 7 RTR from OFNA. I think its overall look is awesome. Its got lots of aluminum. its around $500. The quality is very comparable to a MP7.5, actually I think its alot better! It just doesnt have the name kyosho has. I ordered up a JP racing Pro 99 engine for my hyper pro. :D I cant wait to drop it in! I cant wait any longer!!!!!!!!!!!! Its just a thought. I got one and want another :D

Get a monster pirate to bash with and a XX-NT to race offroad=)

The MP is more than just a buggy with big wheels and tires. The suspension arms are beefy. The chassis is thicker and wider. The spur gear is a lot larger to compensate for the larger tires. The drive axles are a lot thicker. A 153oz/in Hitec 945MG can barely turn the tires on this one!

If you decide to convert a buggy into a monster truck then keep in mind what they did with the MP (a huge spur gear) to get it to work. It was suggested that you get the Pirate 10 wheels and T-Maxx tires. This allows you to just change to a smaller clutchbell instead of trying to figure out how to mount a larger spur gear (not an easy task since it will hang below the chassis).

heres a pic of my ofna buggy turned into a buggy truck, havent got the big tires and wheels for it yet, cost about 100 bucks for the rims and tires to put on it,ofna blazer sst rims will fit the 17mm hubs and you can use the t-max tires on these rims there not as big as the mp tires, iam not sure but would you need to chang the clutch bell with these tires being a little smaller, but mabey it would help to change to a smaller clutch bell anyway.??

Well guys, thanx for the help.

It is a toughy, and to be quite honest i am still at a loss.

By making the buggy into a truck although a good concept is a cheap way out, and like you say its going to need insane torque to even get it to steer. To find a decent servo, one with over 150oz of torque is going to cost mad money...somthing which a better engineered truck would eliminate.

Even though in my opinion underpowered and somewhat over-spec'd. the T-maxx is looking like a good option. After watching a video of various t-maxxs at www.ocmtc.com ...WOW! Some of those things are insane. Tmaxxes are not as bad as some, including me in the past made them out to be. Even so, converting it into a .21 will also be expensive.

Still, the idea of a T-maxx sounds better than that of a buggy truck hybrid thingy... Harder springs, Lower it a bit and maybe an AE pipe and some other goodies to get the front wheels off the ground...

Thanx for the input. Any other info on maxxes and MPs would be great.

and that truck probably costs the same as a Inferno kanai 7.5 if not more! For a small amount of money yer better off just getting a buggy.
