Hi Crypt.
Have you got a new engine jet?
I'm maybe getting a new engine soon.
But saddely it won't be the OS.40 4-stroker.
I talkt to my LHS and he told me that the ONLY good about it was the sound.

Hi Zod here is how I did it.

well, i mounted the os rz01bp from my buggie, but it eat the counter gear, i think the engine did move in one front crash  , so i replaced the main/counter with the steel gear, but when the counter gear have been removed the torque is decreased in a half at least, itīs fast but i really like the torque, so i will ask to a friend that work with metals if he could make some new steel counter gear but that will be when the summer will go out, about sept, or october.

Somehow I stumbled onto this website today and found these
boards. There hasn't been any action on **** network board for
the USA1 in a long time.

That said...the more the merrier ;) whilst I don't own a USA-1 myselfe my cousin (213) does and it's residing in my apartment mostly... :D

Hey Everyone! Hope everyone has been doing well lately and has had a great summer. Been a while since I lasted posted. Not much has been happening lately. My truck is still running strong, no breakage problems anyway.
TFLA-USA1:
Great site you have there, but I must agree with DCLXVI, Change the color man! Loved those action shots, wish I could get mine to fly like that. Actually, it will fly like that, it's the landing part of it that doesn't work out to well. Still wants to nose dive. I will figure it out someday.

(http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118760&perpage=25&pagenumber=1) meantime i would put more fuel onboard and run that four stroker into the ground all day long. My truck had it all once. a trailor w/ swamp buggy /camera platform. lost the tapes. scavenged the shocks from the trailor. broke speed records w/o counter gear. choose to run counter now for towing and torque. last saw the thing climbing wide open while bounceing its way to the top, creeping slowly you could steer it and it had little affect on heading to the top. wierd. i had lites too,one coned shaped at the top shined up to see the dust cloud above after a complete stop.
Expensive four stroker though, i may want it next. nah, not yet, lets get me a 2 stroker again first, this truck seems to have a future here. I'll wait for one of you to master it first, maybe later i'll get it.
So what engine do i get for the least of my money ?

I'd plan to do all kinds of stuff to this model if only i were to hit the lottery.
I would do the same thing at the back too.I run out of funds real quick around here.Back when i ran this truck it was is in a constant state of changing. As was my skill level driving it too.How bout the time i crashed into the front wheel of some childs bike that pulled up on my left shoulder to watch me crash it into his front wheel.Actualy I steered right to avoid his ankle. The bike took all the damage.Seeing him wobbling it home, I felt bad cuase i scorned him for being there. The Nerve ! It could of been worse if i wasnt going slower at the time. You wont see him do that again.

Hello. My boss at work has one with OS .21RG non p/s engine, high torque steering servo, radio gear and some new stuff he has added for $250. I don't need the Tx and rx so I'm hoping to get it for $200. Its the new version based off a kyosho Inferno buggy I believe but not sure what edition. I've always wanted an 8th scale buggy or some MT and it seems this is my chance since I am still about 50 bux short of buying my own sport level rtr buggy. Do any parts from the buggies of today fit the USA1? I know its durable, but I just want to make sure I have some support on the sides should something happen.

Hi all, today i got a nice surprise when a friend gave to me a new old Kyosho USA1, I say new because it has been sleeping in a garage box for several years, my friend just drived it a couple times so it has no scratches or damage, the only thing in bad condition is the body. Here you have some pics.

rebelbrowser

There is no dust in there. Fire it up before we all get older....
The parts like gears for this pig of a truck elude me as well.
I guess for the money to get new gears made, you could get the latest MT kit. But lets not go there yet !
Turn the tires so they point foward, its for shedding water better. Besides where does the debris your scooping go but up inside the chassis. Who knows you might see better fuel milege and higher speeds too.
I dont know the condition of the mitor gears in my truck, I know the other counter and spur gears wear alot if they arent aligned perfectly. Mine were are all perfect just before the engine turned its last. 7+ years ago ! It still sits ready to break in another engine. This time it will have had all ball bearings thoughout. I spin the wheels on it now and then just to see if it still spins free for 30 secs. And it does.
I am still waiting for that new engine to one day drop from the sky.
baaah, i hate rc-cars... every time i tried to get the usa1 together something got broken 8[
1. try: pull start cord broke
2. try: the teeth of my rear gear didnt interlock as they should
3. try: pull starter again :O
4. try: glow plug connector got broken
5. try: forgotten to secure the radio reciever against water - so the usa1 got out of control @fullspeed :O
now all is fine.. i hope so, but atm no time for driving the usa1 :(
rebelbrowser
10-02-2004, 09:44 AM
1. get an RTR from Toys R Us !
2. post a pic of your broken Usa1
3. 4 out of 5 times your kit will fail because of you.
4. the more money you spend the less "static" your model will be.
5. For those of us stuck in suck ass city life, RC is a way to live Vicariously through the model and not get arrested for taring up public property or getting killed by real crashes.
Granted its just a toy !
They should however run.
I had bought several gas monster truck kits before the USA1. They all were like "static" models. The USA1 was a dominate force. Mine is still sitting after 10 years, and will run again someday.
This kit will always be a monster truck. Even if your gears arent lined up. But if they are, it wont matter if they are steel or plastic, it will run strong for a long time. Running at 50 mph was fun, but i prefer the lower gear pulling power it has now. Either way gear alignment is critical to your success.
Experience helps too.

After first checking I've seen that the servos still work but the piston is stuck due the dry oil inside the engine, I'll clean the engine to be able to start it, I have a brand new Picco P3R engine that I don't use, maybe I'll put on it. The other parts look right but after seeing the engine I'll also to check diffs and shocks.

I found this site by accident and I see it has a USA-1 site.... I found the pics and advise very usefull... I was given a usa-1 nitro crusher from a friend who said he didn't have the room for it anymore... It has a hpi .21 nitro star engine and a JR pcm radio and receiver... the trucks works well and comes with a ton of spares including a rolling burns buggy with another .21 engine.
I noticed alot of you mentioning a smaller spur gear to reduce speed for crawling.. mine doesn't have this... my top speed is somewhere in the mid 30's and will pull the front tires when it hooks up.... I also have dual brakes on mine where your pics only show 1 brake.... any comments would be helpful as to the proper setup and can parts still be had... I have several other nitro trucks so I don't use this too much... I do love the way it runs and its very stable.....

Phil,
The counter gears you are requesting have been discontinued but I think a few vendors may still have some laying around. Your best alternative would be to purchase a steel main gear and install that but alas the steel main gears are also very hard to come by. You may want to consider this item on ebay, has the steel gear, spares for your USA-1 and currently bidding at $33.00. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Good luck

I like my USA1 but its a shelf queen now.

sounds like you know what you are talking about.. Will the parts from the Burns interchange?? Spur gear, suspension parts transmission etc??? I may have a adifferent feeling about old stuff and how it is enjoyed. I have a 1929 Model A Ford and try to drive it every chance I get.. I could not stand to leave it sitting in the garage under the cover after all the hard work that I have put into it over the years. Yes there are more reliable forms of RC out there and all of them probably capable of trashing the USA1 but it is all nestelgia.. Do you know how many people look at me when I drive my 29?? They dont even have a clue what it is!! I got the same thrill when I took my USA1 into Hobby Town the other day and about 15 young kids stood there and didnt have a clue!!!!!!!!! If you guys are no longer interested in the USA and want to give them up for bigger technology drop me a post!! Stuck in the past, Modelaman...........

wow... this post is alive again.. maybe i'll blow the dust off my usa-1 and my burns buggy again... As far as parts interchangablity... yes for the most part they are with a few exceptions.. the arms and the hubs are different but you can use either one with good results.. the usa-1 won't turn as well with burns hubs.. parts can also be found with the inferno buggies as well..
I pretty much turned the usa-1 into a shelf queen although I do run it occasionally.. the burns buggy is a blast to drive.. still keeps up with other buggies at the track even with the 15 year old suspension..

Yes, I have several cars including a savage and ever since I recieved my USA1 it has really intrigued me. I just love the way it looks and feels. I am glad to get a responce and learn more of this truck. I will be in need of a spur gear, I have flipped diffs and run motor directly on the center or spur gear. Can you tell me what spur gears will work?? Thanks

hows the compression on your engine? i had an engine with low compression that did the exact same thing. ran like a champ until it got warm, then just died and wouldn't fire up again until it cooled off.

Landmax 1 isnt older than USA1.Actually LM1 is Inferno DX,where USA1 is the older burns.
There are a few parts that are interchangable but since reading the post and with what happened to me with my LM1 fleet is that(LM 1 parts are not so difficult as usa or burns to find but are rare also) if you want to run it you should make some udates/modificacions.For example in my LM1 I special ordered a carbon fiber chasis with the center diff holes for the original center diff and for the MP7.5 center diff.Since the LM1 spur gears are hard to find I am using the Mp 7.5 diff (tons of original and after market parts) in order to avoid shortage of parts.I also got some metal arms specially ordered so no fear of breaking the arms.

In my USA1 NT I didn't use the counter gear at all it was from engine to center diff straight (of course you have to switch the front and rear diff direction otherwise your truck will travel backward), it had enough torque, I wonder why people still search for the counter gear to get their USA1 alive.
My USA1 engine is OS MAX RF-B with I think 1.2 HP

my usa-1 is currently running a hpi 25 engine in place of the gs21 that came with it.. I don't run the countergear and the truck is pretty fast.. try not to run the nitro crusher too much anymore because of the rarity and difficulty in gettin replacement parts.. I also have a burns buggy as well.. same story..

Do you guys watch any of the auctions on E-Bay for the USA 1. I got to tell you that I am hooked. I do have several other cars but the old USA1 has become one of my favorites. I just called Kyosho and ordered the spur gear BS-84. It was only 18.00 but with shipping it cost 25.00 to get it to the door. I think that if a guy wants to keep one of these old trucks up and running it would be money well spent to have an extra truck on hand..

Here some pics of my USA-1 Series 1. The engine is a 1991 Picco/Serpent .21ci and I use this car for races in the Nitro Monster Cup in the Netherlands. (http://www.bigscalemonstercup.nl/index.html. I've done the central diff modification, getting rid of the countergear (thanx to the tips I found in this topic). I have done some modifications to the chassis braces (bracing the frontend and the central diff holder), rebuild the whole car, shimming everthing out, a complete ballbearing-set and now it it really race-ready! The body is a HPI RS4MT 1:10 Ford F150 Racing Truck body....
Last race I competed with a Hot Bodies Lightning GTX, T-Maxx, LST and some Savages and finished fourth overall due to a broken steering servo...Otherwise I should finished 2nd overall! So this old Offroader still is a force to recon with!!
:D Still racing with a 15 year old car and engine.... :D

Just thought I stop in here...it's been a about two years since i've had a chance to work on the USA-1....(that's what buying the first house will do :) :) )
Anyway, I'm going to get it cleaned up and running hopefully over the next week. I remember the last time I used it there were problems with the throttle servo, so I just ordered a new Hitec HS645 MG servo, a new fuel filter and some fuel line. I'm going to get the carb off the motor and clean it out real good and get the rest of the truck all cleaned up.
I also got a couple of replacement counter gears on the way from an ebay auction the I won over the weekend. It seems alot of the parts from the usa-1 are getting harder to find.
My USA-1 has an O.S. 21RG engine, custom dual steering servo plate with Two Hitec HS645MG servo's, Sanyo 5-cell battery pack, hardened diff gears. Here's some pics:

Only problem with that is it is from the UK and they only order every two weeks, so it could be a month before you got the parts.

You don't need a counter gear, just hook it direct from the engine to the spur gear see the photo of my USA1, before doing this make sure to reverse the front and rear differential directions.

You need to get spur gear number BS-11 and reverse the direction of your USA1 front and rear diffs. if you didn't find BS-11 go for the steel verion BSW-19 but you need BSW-34 to go with that. ebay would be a good source for them.

I called them to see if its a mistake... they said that it was correct... I suggested usps, which they don't use.. I think they ship fed-ex or ups at very inflated rates... but at least they still have parts.

Hi!
I have been thinking if it is possible to install a 2 speed transmission on the usa-1 truck? Anyone with toughts on this?
When I saw the possibilty to "take off" the counter gear, maybe one can install the 2 speed transmission used in the Inferno GT?
I also wonder from where I can get alu plates to mount tank, servo reciver box etc (like on the car to TFLA USA-1)?
I have recently "upgraded" a USA-1 1999mod with a RB 728 engine and some new shocks(I`ll try to post some pics later on) I think it would be a real monster with a 2. gear!!
I have been out of the game for a while and would apreciate tips and hints of hop ups for the car(ball bearings, alu vs. plastic, etc.etc.)

Try with a 11t pinion, might require new motor mount though...
Or try getting the main gear from a Thunder Tiger EK-4, that will require a lot of modification to make it fit properly...

It won't be easy to adapt a gear from another car since that spur is moulded in a quite perculiar way...
But if you are not afraid of ordering from abroad I can give you an adress to a Japaneese store that usually have old stocks...
I'm at work now and I can't really remember the name of the store (something like Iishimokei)...

or here: http://cgi.ebay.com/KYO-Kyosho-KYOIFW58-Steel-Main-Gear-48T_W0QQitemZ120290648880QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_ Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1c01e1a330&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0 |293%3A1|294%3A200
you will need also a center diff housing : http://shopkyosho.com/product/part_number=IF26/410.0
now the above set up is using a 48T spur instead of the standard 53T spur, which calls for using a bigger clutch bell (17t or 18t) which required a stronger engine. The late 80s engines were not able to use the above set up since their HP was around 1.2 to 1.8
but todays 2+ HP engine should have no problem.
I hope the above helps.
They no longer make this part "BS-11". Any better ideas genious?

Thanks for the advice! Just a few questions.. Did you have to move the motor forward to meet the spur gear?... Why do you have to reverse the direction of the front and rear diffs? ....Is the truck "wheely happy" now?! Thanks again for your help

hi,
1- you don't have to move the motor forward, the setups I mentioned are taking care of this, the spur gear itself is thinner in the overall thickness so it will adjust it self.
2- the original setup includes a counter gear between the spur gear and the clutch bell, so if you remove this counter gear the rotation direction have to be adjusted by reversing the front and rear diffs.
3- USA-1 is not a wheely truck, so I don't see any effect except the ones I mentioned in my earlier post about the requirement of a strong engine.
see the USA1 and other Kyosho old trucks promotional video here:

forward to 1:05 for USA1 Nitro Crusher.

Hello,
I was trying to find a carburettor for my Rc and found this forum. I have a almost brand new stock engine Nitro Crusher with a broken carb needle. I assume that you ppl might have the knowledge to help me to choose a replace carburettor or spare part? The difficulties of the task lie in that i live in northern Finland, meaning that there are no rc shops or knowledge of any kind. I can order all the needed parts via Ebay only. Thankyou, sorry for the bad English!

I'd recommend a new motor, it's quite pricey but it is well worth it...
Here's some webshops I've been dealing with that are good...
www.towerhobbies.com (USA)
www.modelsport.co.uk (England)
http://www.ishiimokei.com/ (Japaneese, somewhat tricky but good prices on Japaneese stuff, very good for older Kyosho and Tamiya stuff)
http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/default.php (Hong Kong)
www.rmf.se (Swedish, basically my local shop, it's right on the way to my work, should be able to send to Finland, has alot more stock than shown on the page, will be able to hook you up with everything you need if you call them)
I'd recommend a OS .30 motor, should be pretty good...
EDIT: I might be able to hook you up with a CNC'ed aluminium radio plate for about €15

Clearly not many people yap on this usa-1 thread. What a bummer
I just melted my counter gear the other day and have been looking everywhere for one. I guess this is the downside to owning and running a classic truck.
So looks like everyone has the same issue with this truck as i been reading, just a weak counter gear. You would think by now someone would have come up with a replacement, or some guy with a cnc machine.....
The pic above where the guy eliminated the counter gear was actually my first thought, but i think torque loss will be a huge factor. Anyone else done this?

Wow, my thread is still alive but my pic of my truck is gone:(. The counter gear was a problem back in the day but luckily i ordered spares.
I have tried my RXB setup with the USA1 with an Inferno center diff setup. The RXB did not have enough torque to move the truck but with today's .28-.30 it "might work"? If it does i doubt it would accelerate very fast.

Of course we have, just flip the diffs front and back. The truck does about 40mph this way. Torque loss is not a HUGE factor but it does exist. Cant have both. The gear was a con, but like the original poster said, if its installed right, it runs without incodent. Mine used to pull a cinderblock down the street... I had a trailer that carried a VHS camera. Even dragged it on the beach once. At the cost of the camera which had to be professionally cleaned. Too bad the tape dissapeared, it was some great footage. Yes I am once again, looking for the counter gear made of steel, and to see what all lives about this truck. But I prefer the Higher gear config, and I have even removed the front dogbone just to get it to drift and stuff.
People can say how insignificant this truck was all they want. Its the first ever heavy duty MT that ran circles around anything in its class even though it was a BurnsDX with bigger tires. Mine still runs 20+years later, and I plan to dust it off and run it before Summer ends. Body, Shocks, steel gear(s), engine and radio, batteries and fuel. Should cost around the same as what this truck originally cost me lol. Its got bearings and a custom body mount hinge, fliptop tank and a water tight radio box. Its existing engine and radio probly still operate, but I want to budget them in. This truck was last seen running on youtube, some years ago and has recieved 7,000+ views.
Newer trucks probly have light weight and state of the art gears and parts, but what makes this truck transcend time is it's resilience to change. As long as you can bolt parts on it, this kit will always be an RCMT.
