Hey guys. I'm looking at the Futaba servos... I'm looking into the S9402 for an Ofna Hyper 7 Pro.
I look down at the bottom of the page.. and there's Digital Servos..
I look at the S9151.... it's got 131.9 oz/in of torque!!
the S9402 has 111.1oz/in. for the same price..
which one is better to get? the S9402 is CORELESS... and the 9151 is Digital. What's the better one for Off-Road 1/8th scale buggy racing...
and what do digital servos do that Coreless ones dont?
THANKS!!
I would help you but I dont know:(

I'm using a 9402 to steer my Inferno - I have no complaints. Digital servos are supposed to hold their position better and center more consistently, but I really have to wonder if there's a noticeable performance difference between a high-quality non-digital servo and a comparable digital one.

Awesome. Futaba 9402 it is 8-)
Any suggestions on sealing out the crud? I'll be racing in some mighty nasty-dust conditions...

Servos are pretty crud-resistant. No need to do anything else to it. Put your reciever in a balloon or condom to keep the crud out.

digital servos hold their position better and do center more acurately.. I use nothing but digital for steering in my 1/8 buggy, 1/10 ST and my nitro TC.
I think the Hitec digital servos are every bit as good as the Futabas but they cost a lot less. I use a Hitec 5945 in my buggy and I love it. It has 180 oz/in of torque!

Unless you're running your car in REALLY wet conditions, you shouldn't have any issues with the servos. I'm not too familiar with what the Hyper 7's radio box looks like, but the receiver and battery are what you should be most concerned with when it comes to water and dirt.
One thing to consider is that you're going to want/need a high-torque servo for your throttle as well. A standard servo simply cannot bring the car down from speed rapidly enough. So while the Futaba 9402 is a great servo for steering, consider that for slightly more than the price of the 9402 you can buy two Hitec Digital Servos. If I had to do it again, I'd probably go that route because going with Futaba servos for both steering and throttle I'll end up spending about $170, and neither servo is digital.

That's true Endaar. Futaba Servo's are extremely expensive.
Which of the Hitec Servos should I get for my Hyper 7?
If the Digital servos are better... and they have a LOT of torque..
which 2 should I get ?

Looking at the specs: (all at 6V, by the way, and the prices are from Tower)
Futaba S9402 (BB, Coreless): 111.1 oz/in; 0.09 sec/60 degrees ($99.99)
Hitec 5625 (BB, Digital): 94.43 oz/in; 0.13 sec/60 degrees ($53.99)
Hitec 5645 (BB, Digital): 133.31 oz/in; 0.18 sec/60 degrees ($53.99)
The Futaba's specs are the best, but as you can see it's much more expensive than the Hitecs, and as we're discussing it's not digital.
Personally, I'd be inclined to use a 5625 for steering and a 5645 for throttle. The 5645 seems a little slow for steering use, but that's based solely on the numbers - I doubt most of us could see the difference between .13 and .18 seconds. I have a friend who's putting an Inferno together and went with the Hitec setup described. I haven't had a chance to see the car in action yet, though.

Yes...but heres what you have to do in order to make sure they are compatible....when ordering or buying from your LHS tell them you want hitec model#(whatever) with the Futaba "J" plug.....this will work with all Futaba recievers if ordering from someone like Tower it will say "J" in the product description or tech notes.......good luck

The S-645 is a great servo. If you can tell the difference between the .13 second S-625 and the .18 second S-645 then you're a better RC man than I am.

Just keep in mind that the sevos linked to at Ace-Hobbies are not the same as the servos I referred to. It doesn't look like Ace has the digital Hitecs. These Tower links are the digital servos.
I guess the non-digital Hitecs are still pretty good deals, but for a few dollars more I'd personally rather go with the digital ones.

Awesome.
Thanks Endaar....
ONE last big question..
if I was to use a DIGITAL servo for steering.. would I HAVE TO use a Digital for Throttle/brake too !? ...

Nope, doesn't matter at all.

I didnt really know that Hitec made a 5625 and 5645 digital servos. The specs of the non-digital 625 and 645 are exactly the same as the digitals endaar just wrote about.
I do know though for a fact that hitec makes some 5925 and 5945 digital servos that are extremely good.
the specs are:
5925-0.08 sec/60(speed) 128oz/in(torque @ 6v) 384oz/in(holding power)
5945-0.13sec/60 180oz/in 540oz/in.
I am currently using the 5945 for steering and 5925 for throttle.
They work fine and have done more than what i expected from them.

Awesome Repete.
What's the prices on those things bro ?

Tower has the 5925/45 for $86.99. Seems that the 59 series is coreless while the 56 series isn't.

What kind of power is the HS-645MGJ ? is it JUST Metal Gears, and Dual Ball Bearings? or... is it coreless ? .. or Digital ?
Tower Hobbies description didn't say ...

You can tell that stuff with Hitec servos just by their number.. anything that starts with a 5 is digital - 5625 is, 625 is the same model but *not* digital.. anything with an MG on the end is metal geared..

The Hitec 625 has 93oz./in at .13sec
The Hitec 645 has 133oz/in at .18sec
They do have ball bearing and metal gears and i THINK they are coreless but i am not sure:confused:

I had no idea that hitec made the 625 and 645 digital.
But i guess the only thing better about it is the centering and the holding power but i just had no idea they made those digital:)

Sweeet..
I'll be getting the 645MGJ....
8-)
$44.99 @ my LHS... and after I buy the kit & the engine I won't have enough left for a better servo than that! lol.
I'll be putting all digital servos in it LATER 8-)
