I own a GS Sonic and have been having a Blast running it. Couldn't tell you how it stacks up against the big boys (i.e. Serpents, Mugens, etc.) But I have been having loads of fun with it. Pretty much run it as it came except I wore the stock tires off in four tanks of fuel. It now has Serpent Vector Ellegi technics on it, seem to be lasting much better. Couldn't really tell you exactly how fast it goes, but it's pretty fast. Main problem I have is finding a place big enough and smooth enough to run it.
Anybody else care to talk about theirs. :)

I know how you feel. After running my 4Tec up and down my street I thought I would be able to run my Sonic there too. Well, a couple curbs and a bent chassis later, I realized I need much more space.
I have only been able to get into 2nd gear once. I was going about 50 and it switched gears and spun all 4 wheels. I had to let off the gas to regain control. I need a runway for this thing.

I just bought a VETEQ, but considered a SONIC. I would have actually bought the SONIC if I didn't get such a solid DEAL on the VETEQ.
Do you have any pictures or vids on running your Sonic?
What setup did you put together?

My sonic is still pretty much stock the only thing I've changed so far are the tires, added a chassis pan made from KS plastic that folds up the sides to keep sand and gravel out (That stuff really tears belts and gears up). Couple of weeks ago I had my brother-in-law tape it while I was running it but he must have had a hang-over and did a terrible job. I'm going to try again next time I run it. I've got a new pipe on order from Ace Hardware Hobbies, its been two weeks and it must be lost in the mail:( . I found that the stock pipe has a disk welded in it right in the middle with a not so large hole in it, looks to be more of a muffler than a pipe, so hopefully the new pipe will wake it up a little more. Have you had a chance to run your Veteq? What type of motor did you choose? Any good places to run it?

Send me the vid when you get a good one! hdcchrome@yahoo.com or jds.ecomm@attbi.net
I am still putting it together....I bought it off this site from Lee. Do a search on user hdcchrome and you will see the VETEQ I bought.
Happy racing my friend :)

Just got through upgrading my Sonic, I've added some Sonic Super R parts. Mainly the shoe type two speed and the dual lever brakes, hopefully in an attempt to smooth out the braking. Also added a L. Collari XS2100 Super Competition with an RB-Onroad Pipe. I have just finished wearing in the motor and getting the mixture settings correct, these engine are definitly finicky. So far speeds have been impressive can't tell you how fast, but a heck of a lot faster than stock, acceleration has been greatly improved also, to say the least. This message thread has certainly not been active. But then again there aren't a lot of threads going on the Serpent forum either. 1/8 is definently a different animal. I can see why some people would shy away from these cars, a lot of patience and fitting skills are needed to get everything working properly.
For the other two posters on this thread:
Out of the box speeds are over 60mph in the Almost-Ready-To-Run version with the GS motor that comes with it.
Horizon Hobby stocks these cars and all the parts for them.
Check the thread in the nitro section you'll have to look back a little way, but there's more info there too.

Sorrry about the redundancy, you mentioned Horizon Hobbies.
My LHS has them but they are not any cheaper, but about the same. You might find them cheaper somewhere else. But in comparison with the other 1/8's out there it's about as inexpensive as you're getting to get, don't forget it comes with the engine also, most others are the kit only.

hello, i was just wanting to know,
what is a better way to go,
souping up a RS4 super nitro to a .21 motor
or just get a ARR sonic?
I figure, with all the hop ups i get for the Super RS4
it would exceed the cost of a ARR Sonic.
what does the Sonic have over the SuperRS4 .21 conversion?
I will not be racing, i just want to go up and down
a big empty smooth parking lot.
also, will i be able to change the 2 speed gear ratio
on the Sonic, i want to top out more than 65 MPH with
the stock motor that comes with it?
please help
any more information that you know
would be greatly needed since i plan
on buying the better one for me.
thank you
sincerely yours

Buy a Sonic..To much motor for a little car,,you are going to tare up the drivetrain,,
The sonic was designed for a 21 from factory,,this means no head aches..
I Owned a RS4 and a 4tec
And My favorite part is takin of the top plate and being able to get my knuckles in there to work,,plenty of room,,Really easy to maintain and change belts..
I can not wait to go out and race the big boys,,this car is plenty of fun,,but I seem to go through tires quicker then fuel..LOL

I'll probbly get raged for saying this. But for a parking lot racer, the Sonic is overlooked and under rated. jmo.....
