i have a bandit with no electronics in it
the 1 thing i hate about it is the sucky handling
why cant they make it a good handler?
hitstuff II

I've got a rustler and i don't think it handles too bad. You could always try diffrent spring piston and oil combos. I think rustlers are great trucks, I have just as much fun with my rustlers as with my gt.
I got my Bandit kit about 4 days ago, I finished building it in about 2 hours. It was pretty easy to build. I did manage to break one of the plastic output yokes though... :( Those yokes are garbage. The Bandit is extremely heavy also. Anway it seems pretty strong, its all stock right now except for a duratrax sprint esc that was originaly in my Evader, but got replaced by a duratrax spike esc for weekend stock racing.

A bandit is a bad competitor to the B3 or even a rustler. It is way too heavy, way too long, and was built off the same chassis and components of a rustler. Traxxas thought they had a great truck with the Rustler, so why not make it a buggy too. Thats how they came out with the bandit. (Hence my Name, but now I have a rusty) Traxxas needs to seriously redesign their bandit, it was poorly desinged for racing in my opinion. No offence traxxas, your rustler rules though!!:D

is the bandit suppose to turn more on one side?
how can i make the handling better?

07-17-2002, 12:49 PM
Novakxxxnt, you are gonna gear your motor 30/78? Why, you must really hate your motor. You are gearing the car way off, I would stick with the stock gear ratio. If you want a little more punch go down a tooth in the pinion if you want some more speed go up a tooth, not 15 though.
ayk_driver
07-17-2002, 06:37 PM
whats a good gearing combofor a bit more speed other than stock for the rusty?
NovakXXXNT
07-18-2002, 03:40 PM
Hitstuff II - My bad man, Im gearing it up some, I accdiently posted my gearing on my B3! Sorry! The carbon fiber chassis is sweet, but I feel as if I am babying it when I bash.
ayk_driver - Gear your pinion up a tooth or two or three or four!

07-19-2002, 12:27 PM
alrite i mite go 2 or 3 but its gonna stay stock for now while i get the hang of it..........
hitstuff II
07-19-2002, 03:19 PM
you can buy pinion gear sets, robenson racing sells them, they have an asortment of pinions each with a diffrent number of teath. You can get those that's how I got started in playing with my ratios. Remember if the acceleration becomes doggy or your motor/battery start to get really hot you may want to gear back down.

Hey I just got a bandit from Venomrs4, I traded it for the Duratrax Maximum ST. It has a Novak Rooster, a Speed Gems 2 16T, 1500MAH battery and aluminum rear shocks
I love the bandit it is alot of fun!! I am looking into the C F chassis but the site didnt show up for me, where can I order it?
I want to get the Matt Francis rims w/ the Team Losi Dirt Specs(blue)
Where can I get all this??? Oh yeah I need a new body which ones will fit it????
hitstuff II

I really don't know of any aftermarket bandit bodies, but just run a search through tower hobbies, the tires and rims you can find at horizon hobbies.

my brother has a bandit, i drive it whenever he lets me. It is hooked up pretty nicely... He has duratrax competition shocks in the back, stock gears, Novak Super Rooster and a Speed Gems 14 Turn Double Onyx Motor. It goes about 28 mph. I raced it against my friends stock Emaxx and I won by a lot!!!
JIP2587
08-03-2002, 05:01 PM
I hate to break it to u, but beating an emaxx is no big deal. Me and my brother have both beat emaxxs and tmaxxs with stock motors on associated cars.

08-03-2002, 07:29 PM
I realize this thread might be dead, but I just wanted to talk about my rustler...and about jip's selfishness...
My Rustler:
- Novak Fusion
- Titanium Turnbuckels
- MIP CVD's
- RPM gear cover, and 5x10 bearing carrier's
- RPM Ball Cups
- Big Bore shocks all around
- p2k stock motor
Also, I raced this past weekend and beat 6 losi's and AE's...muahaha...however, I am probably going to buy a T3 in a little while, after I sell my TC3.
Now, for JIP...please stop being an ignorant child and actually respect other people. Thank you.

Hey Frestyler, sorry about being so cruel, but if ur B3 broke it would be another story huh, The Plate, Well it installed great and so far it's holding up great!
The Chassis I have is the aluminum 1 which you can get it in just about any color! The only problem was that the holes were drilled off:( so I had to make an extra effort for it. It works now and is very rugged! IT WILL NOT BREAK!!!! There is also a Carbon fiber chassis. You can get these from White Racing (www.white-racing.com) He is very nice and will help you out if needed. You need to talk to him and specify that you would like the Bandi Chassis. Hey good luck w/ every one elses!
My MRC Super Brain 959 went dead:confused:  So now i cant play! I am going to send it in to them! I might get a novak charger too. Hey happy bashing!:D

MJ Bandit: you wqant to buy my Bandit... hmmmmm I could do that. I am unsure of the price b/c of what I have put into it.
it has the White Racing Aluminum bandit chassis (yellow) RPM gear cover ( yellow) RPM antenna tube (yellow) Matt Francis rims for the XXX and Blue dirt Spec tires. The body is in very Crappy condition! This is the way I recieved it! You may want to order a new 1 if you intend on purchassing it! I will Trade but needs to be good! as you can tell this is fully customized except for the body and a few small things. All you would need is a Radio, Reciever, and a battery w/ charger.
Other additional parts
Hardened Steel output yolks
Blue Anodized Aluminum Shocks
Team Losi Read and Blue racing springs
Trinity Speed Gems 2 15 turn motor
Novak Rooster esc
HPI steering servo
Full Set of sealed Bearings
Proline Bow-tie rear tires
Proline edge front tires
Extra gears(spur, trans., etc.)
Extra Chassis & Spare Parts
I have taken EXTREMELY good care of this Buggy. It is very clean. There are no broken parts on it.
There is no radio tho...

Im not to sure how i blew it, but it always gave me false peaks, and now it says its fully charged after 45 seconds:mad: I dont think it was because of overheating, I never did electric all that much so it had plenty of time to cool down, I would use that then swap and use my hitec, then swap again if needed, so it could be. but I doubt it. DUDE SHUT UP!!!! Dont come into a forum for a specific car and criticize it! I have a bandit and love it! People who buy them dont intend on racing them (well most people) They just want to have fun with this hobby! If you think that buying a car to have fun with is bad then you are a moron! If many of us wanted a racer we would have bought one in the first place! (if they could afford it) So dont come in here telling us what sucks and what does not, wait... you prob. own a B3 just like the other people... just show some respect

Hey have you guys heard that you can put HPI Super Nitro rims on the Bandit and Rustler?
For the Bandit you need to get the Pro Line hex adaptors, and get the Rustlers front axles and some rims and tires
Rustler, just get the adaptors and I think your ready to go.
Also what bodies are everyone else using?
Is there a wheelie bar for the bandit?
Also is there a lexan chassis kit? I heard about it...

where did you buy your chassis?? saw the graphite chassis in a mag a month or two ago but white racing(think that was there name) went belly. just looking to add some cool factor to it.
Zillon
12-06-2002, 03:18 PM
Thats a White Racing aluminum chassis. I recieved it in April of this year, before WR went out of business. He didnt go belly up, just to let you know, but he was doing too many jobs at the time, so he had to give one up... he gave up on the chassis business and gave his plans to Roy at RD Racing products. Roy will probably his own version of the chassis out in the next year... he takes too dang long to come out with stuff.

I am thinking about getting the rustler. With a futaba radio. If I put around 40 of hop ups into it do u think I could race it?
Zillon
12-17-2002, 07:36 AM
Well, it depends on what hopups you put in it with 40 bucks. for racing, I would suggest aluminum shock caps (7 bucks a pr.), Pro-line racing tires (14.99 to 17.99 a pr.), RPM 5x11 Bearing carriers (about 8.59 a pr.), 5x11 teflon sealed bearings (usually 12.99 to 18.99 dependin on the brand), pinion gears ( 6 bucks for a 6 pack), and a motor worthy of racing, such as a P2k2 Pro stock motor, if you wish to race stock, which I think you should do.

12-19-2002, 10:31 PM

i finally broke down and customized my rustler i had to remove
3/4 of an inch off both sides of the chassis to get a bolink sprint car body on it. i used chrome rustler rims with proline road hawgs on all 4 wheels i am going to lower the suspension about 1/2 inch not sure if i should use fuel tubing or o rings to slam the shocks
does anybody know if bandit a arms are shorter in length than the rustler a arms it looks like it is kind of wide now
cant wait to try this thing i never ran this rustler if it runs decent i am going to do one of my nitro rustlers into a sprint next
ND4SPDR

The Bandit rear a-arms are much shorter (you'll also need Bandit sliders), and the Bandit front arms are about a quarter of an inch longer than the Rusty's.

I dont know if I have let you guys in on my Top Secret project... well not that top secret, just to my local racin buddies...:D I am looking into the R & D aluminum arms, and shock mounts, oh yeah the bumper too.... I want to put them on the bandit, along with the Ruty's hub carriers, and I am going to get the MIP CVD's for it aswell.... I am talking to a guy on ebay about making a special pair of Maxx Rims that are reversed, they are called deep dish rims, they make it so I can use the maxx rims on it, otherwise the rims would hit the chassis.....
Well people make Nitro buggies into monsters, why cant I make an electric buggy a monster... I am planning on going Brushless this summer too :D I already have a body, and want to make it yellow and blue, like the rest of the buggy/ truck. I want to do blue splash marks, w/ yellow main color... And I have a set of Maxx Mulcher tires... they r the giant spikes.... they look "mean" I want get a truck body for it... I'll use brass tubing, just the right size to fit over a body post, and then I'll drill 2 holes in it, 1 at the bottom to hold it on the body post for the clip to go through, and 1 at the top to hold on the body.... What kind of truck would look good in Black and Red? I was thinking maybe a Dodge Ram or a Hummer Military style.

I had a Bandit for a long time until it got converted to a Rusty. For CVD's, the only ones that fit are designed for the Traxxas TRX-3. They've been discontinued, but you might still be able to find them.
Here's my Bandit (now a Rustler.) Go here (http://www.marcweb.net/bandit.html) for all the specs, although I do need to update the pics.
Here are some new ones:

My Bandit is now essentially a Rustler, so it uses MIP CVD's designed for the Rusty. As for the motor heatsink, I would get it, but you'll need to dremel out the gearbox like the Ultimate Rustler on www.ultimatetraxxas.com .

I am saving up for GPM aluminum arms and towers... and cant forget the bumper and hub carriers ofcoarse... I am going to get rustler arms and axles, and MIP CVD's for the Rustler, and a set of ESP clod adaptors so I can put clod wheels on... the only thing really setting me back is I blew my diff:p oops... lol so I need to buy a new one, I have been searching ebay, but no luck, so I might just get a roller.... any suggestions? you buy an esc so that you don't burn off extra power in the resistors on the shock towers. it gets better run time

I come from the Traxxas world and know a thing or two about rustys.
Bandit is not competitive with high end race buggies.
A general place to start is a pinion two teeth lower than the number of turns on the motor. Start at 12/87 with a 13t motor.

Rustlers are freaken durable, last month me and my friends went to crystal park and I practiced but my friends rustlers went at it. When ever they got in my way they would be all like "try to pass me fool'" So I walike "OK" so I ran them over on the top of a hill andthey flipped over and I bottomed out right on top of them like a million times they never broke. I have a Rustler that I got last Christmas. It is really cool. But not as cool as my T-Maxx 2.5 that i got after 3 months of Rusty. I Practicly cooked the old esc by running it too hard. I then bought a $50 LRP F1 Reverse Digital. I fried that too!! A rock got stuck in the heatsink and it shorted, smoked, and fried. 3 strikes your out!!! The Rustler i have has outlasted $110 dollars of electronics and it has survived the narliest crashes EVER!! It is really durable. For Christmas I hope to get a Novak Explore 2 and a Venom Fireball 17 turn. Any thoughts on these items? Thanks. God Bless!!!

This is what I use....30wt in front and 40wt in rear with the two hole pistions with holes bored out to 1/16"! Losi lite blue springs front and AE MGT Red(7lb) springs rear! This is my favorite set up! It works on just about all off road situations! On road I would use 50w all around and stiffest spring I could find! JMO Chris.
BTW: The swamii Site is very well known, so don't get upset if any one doesn't respond right away to it! And yes His Vids are wicked! Must be nice to have the disposible cash he has or must have?

alright thanks for the help b/c i have the same shock oil for almost 2 years so i'm going to change it and set it up for the way i drive. and i was just amazed by the swami videos. i wish i could build my rustler like his. because mine is still stock. even the tires which are almost bare but still work pretty good.

Just remember the pistons control the rate at which the shock compresses, More holes the faster it compresses and less holes slower rate! The oil weight does pritty much the same thing! So you can eather get 30w oil and change the pistons or leave the two hole piston and change the oil weight! :D
BTW: this might help try here you think swamii is cool site.....http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lane/shocks/er-disassemble.asp

i made a body for my rustler. it's a nissan frontier body that i took off my old i think fastlane toys r us truck. i made a hole in the back and had to dremmel the bed so i could mount it on the shock tower, and in the front i cut a pen in half and put that on the body posts and used a paper clip and a spike to hold it down on the pens by attaching the paper clip to the body and slidding it over the spike. i think it's kinda cool just to have a rustler bodsy that no one elase has. i got team losi 40 weight shock oil and some losi tires which i glued and now all i need is a esc.

hey guys, how good do your rustlers jump. mine seems to be able to get pretty good air and jump pretty level and i hope to jump a lot when my esc comes in. I think i will have to run my stock body b/c the nissan truck is hard plastic and will probably just crack if i land on the lid. but i'm still going to try jumping with it.

That Park is called, Tampa Bay Park. Track has no name that I know of? It's in northen part of Tampa on N.Dale Mabry Just south of Van Dyke road. That Turtle is called a Gopher Tortuous. I seen the pic's after I went There. I didn't notice any tortuous holes around the track? That'a a neat park Across from the RC track is a BMX Track! I have about 5 active RC tracks with in no more than 15-45 min's from my house!

For the motor i would get a speed gems extreme. They seem to be very popular, and the speed gems line has always been a good line of motors. As for the shocks towerhobbies.com is about the cheapest place that i have seen them.

When you get a new motor do you just change it out with the new one? Or do I have to change the gearing. If I have to change the gearing, what would I have to change it to if I'm going to get a trinity 12turn, and would a 10turn work on my car if I put the right gearing with it?

Yes, your gearing will have to change! I'll post you a sight to check out on Gearing! just give me second!
Do you have an after market esc? Because the stock esc can't handle it and you have to have an alum. Idler gear too. That's :D a lot of motor!

cool, thanks for the sight. I got a new esc, but it looks like I'll have to get an alum. Idler gear too. hey do you guys know why my rusty runs really hot.
dalejrfan8
07-30-2005, 08:09 PM
What runs hot? The esc, motor, battery. How long do you get for a run? Are you overgeared or running a motor with too few turns?
RCfrodoRC
07-30-2005, 08:46 PM
they are all hot. esc motor and battery. i run the stock motor and esc with 1500 battery. i think it's gearing but i'm not sure.
RCfroman

My motor, esc, and battery also run really hot, I think it's because my pinion is a 30t and my spur is a 75t
