Hi Mike,
The Rascal is fast and smooth and needs a normal R/C size field for safe operation. It would not be a satisfactory choice unless you have some flight time.

It's not a trainer. I had one and sold it since it's a larger plane and I have other large planes I liked much better.
If you do buy one, forget 7 cells. 8 cells minimum. Go for the 2.5:1 gearing and a 9x7 prop. You'll be overheating the speed 400 a bit but you'll only use full throttle on takeoff and the occasional loop. The extra power is welcome when you get in trouble or if you want a chance to ROG.

hey guys thanks
for all your help,I think Im goin to buy the kit form and save it for rainy day or just a bad weather project,as I want all the experience I can get building and this plane just seems so beautiful to me,so far I have built and flown 2 mirrage 550's
and one reason I got out of flyin was the lack of electrics thank god they have become popular enough to produce some nice kits out their..( Im also glad I decided to pick up that strangly named magazine that reintroduced me to flyin)ya know Backyard flyer who would of thought :D
much thanks
MIKE

If you're building the kit and not getting the ARF then forget the speed 400 motor. Go for a speed 480 or better yet an Astro 020P (planetary 4.44:1 gearbox). Then you'll have an awesome looking that performs as good as it looks.
Oh, reinforce your dihedral breaks with fiberglass too.
