I took the acro-bipe with GWS direct drive and 3x2 out tonight, and all I can say is WOW!
We fly in an gym (full length b-ball court) and although it flew faster than the usual indoor type plane, there was tons of room. I managed to roll it and as soon as the new motor get broken in some more....it's going to loop.
Jason N., glad you tried this out...it's a winner.
I'm using 50mah ni-cads, but was wondering if anybody has tried using 120 or 150 nimh cells? Would 6 of these cells be enough to offer comparable performance?

Jason;

My first flight was with an 8c 280 nimh pack, rocket says it all. Since I'm not a big fan of cardiac arrest I dumped two cells and flew it on 6. It's not as fast but it's fast enough. It handles the wind better with the 8c pack. What kind of duration do you get with the 50mah nicads? Mines pulling 2A with 6c.

Hey Mike,
With the 50mah cells (new) and a new motor, I'm getting a couple of minutes. I expect to get a bit more once they break in. How do you find the weight of the 280's you're using affects the plane? I was going to try some 110 nicads I have but thought they might be a little heavy....
Have you tried the 120-150 nimh? I'm wondering if the current draw would be too much for them?

Jason;

I'm at 4 oz. with the 6c 280 pack, 4.2 oz. with 8. I get about 8 minutes with the 6c and 7 with the 8. The 8c pack is the liveliest and makes the plane handle better in the wind. The first time I flew it was in a 10mph wind. I stayed away from the 120nimh because they're limited to a 1A draw.

Jason,

The 120's will handle 2 amps...they get a little warm, but oh well...they're cheap :)

You'll probably want to add at least one cell for Nimh packs. They seem to be about a cell short on power as compared to NiCads. Glad you like it with the GWS DD motor, it was a bit much for my thumbs, but everyone else loved it.

Try the 120's, I got mine from Dan Kreigh (flyifo.com).

I have you tried the roadkill 4:1 N20 box with the gunther prop?

I my earlier try was with a smaller pitch prop with bad results?

I am thinking of trying it to keep the amp draw down compared to the GWS DD

Another battery suggestion - Rayovac 150mAh 9-volt. This pack is great with the IPS and the 3x2 prop direct drive! I don't know how it compares to 6x50mAh nicad in weight, but at triple the duration, it may be worth a little weight penalty.

I'm using this battery and the GWS IPS w/3x2 prop in my 125% PunkinII and it's great!

Triple the capacity does not equal triple duration. Those cells have fairly high internal resistance. I use them in IPS set ups. Charge them slow as they are not vented.

I've bulged a couple on my regular charger, even in NiMh mode and at my minimum charge rate of .2 amps so now I just use the Rayovac wall trickle charger.
