Hello All
Question,How do I go about designing an airfoil?I know the basics and how they work,I just need to know would it be worth my time drawing one up and experimenting with this ,
or sould I use ones already desighned?
If I should use the proven already designed ones how would I go about getting them?Is there a site out their with some on them ?A book even?
thank you
MIKE
oh yeah Im all for experimenting with this stuff,as Im eager to learn all about makin my own planes.
thanks again...................
I've been looking into the same thing lately, and have found one book and a few web pages...
basics of r/c model aircraft design...has different things on airfoils and other aspects of design. I haven't looked at it yet, but am waiting for it to arive.
there are a couple computer programs that i have found to help with design or testing.
www.winfoil.com this has a program that will help design and test airfoils and the whole aircraft if i read it right.
and there was an online javafoil program that would test your airfoils...i can't remember what the address was on this page, but just look up design model aircraft on the Google search engine and it is one of the first choices there.
hope this helps and if you find anything out let me know.

Here is the address for the javafoil program...click on Design and Analysis of Airfoils, then go to the bottom of the page and click on Analyse an Airfoil. Also click on the index tab at the top and he lists some airfoils.
hope this all helps

Thanks again

You will find Michael Selig's site at Univ. of Illinois a great place to start for airfoils (link below). The database of coordinates is used by many programs. The free Windows program listed there (AIRFOIL1.EXE) will plot the airfoil data from the .dat files and you can print from there. A great service!
