Hello all, Just wondering if anyone is running the Duratrax-OS 4 Shoe clutch on their TQ? I just ordered one but now I have my doubts if it will work. It will diffinitially fit the stock .21 but Im not sure if it will work properly with the clutchbell. If anyone has this setup please let me know.

The stock engine on the TQ is the Torq .21 engine. If you haven't changed engines, then it will work fine. In fact, if you read the link you included, it states near the bottom: "This kit may be used on the TORQ 21. You need to use the Drive washer for the TORQ 21 DTXG0565 instead of the spacer. "

Cheers

You think it will help acceleration a tad compared with the stock clutch?

Well, if your stock clutch was anything like mine, then ya, the new one will help.
My clutch spring is so incrediably loose that the shoes aren't even held in position. There is slack in the spring. It's pathetic. A new one would allow the engine a bit more rev up time before engaging and that would definiatly help.

I applied this new clutch to my Torq 21 and had one problem in doing so. The brass cone washer that comes with the kit is the wrong thickness to fit over the Torq 21's shaft all of the way. I solved the problem by going to my LHS and getting a very similar but thinner one by OFNA. I don't have the part number handy but if you look at the two you can see that although they appear to be the same size ... one is obviously thinner.

I think this is because the kit is actually for an OS 21 engine which perhaps has a slightly different shaft than the Torq 21.

With the new cone washer (korn) everything fits and works perfectly. I will look tonight and see if I still have the OFNA part number for the new washer.

Oh, one other thing. The shoes that come with the new clutch have to have their heels ground down a bit with a dremel tool. It's in the instructions. I have no idea why they're not done like this when manufactured or if it's really even necessary but it looks like it might keep them from binding / interferring so I did it to mine.

BTW, I did not use the original drive washer on the Torq 21 because it is only 1/2 the thickness of the unit that comes with the kit and would require the use of more shims than I had on hand. Using the provided drive washer with a new brass collet proved to be the best way to go for me.

The part number for the OFNA "brass corn" as they call it is 10330 and was $2.95 at my LHS. This will allow you to achieve 4-shoe clutch nirvana on the Torq 21.

You can try to use the existing drive washer but it didn't seem to come out right for me.

Hey Speedtester. Thanks for bringing that clutch up. It's a good idea and I just bought one from Tower.
