I recently bought an E-Maxx, I'm new to the hobby and this is my first vehicle. The issue is, because I'm new I have no point of reference and everyone at my local track runs the T-Maxx, I can't tell if the sound from my gear box is normal... it runs fine and I can smoke T-maxxs out of the corner every time, but it doesn't sound quite right... do your E-Maxx gear boxs sound smooth, or does it kinda have a "meshing type" sound?
Other electrics sound a lot smoother...
also I tightened the bolt holding the spring on the slipper plate quite a bit.. on the advice of a local racer... was that the right thing to do?

Is your E-Maxx noisier compared to other E-Maxxes out there? If not then everything is fine. The E-Maxx is a very very noisy electric vehicle. At some levels, it's kind of cool sounding, especially when it shifts.
The reason it is so noisy is because the 32 pitch spur and dual pinion gears. You can switch to 48 pitch gears to quiet it down, but you'll loose some durability in the gears.
Anyway, if your E-maxx doesn't sound any louder than other E-Maxxes, don't worry about it.

I have the slipper cranked down all the way on mine. You're supposed to.:)

The EMAXX is a louder truck. If you haven't broke anything by now, I'd say you're fine.
As far as slipper clutch, the clutch is there for protection of the other gears. If you eliminate it by tightening it all the way, you may strip gears. The EMAXX tranny is pretty tough so maybe you won't strip gears, but put in hopped up motors into your vehicle, or install diff eliminating spools, then I would start to worry and be more aware of that slipper. Tightening the slipper all the way is like saying " ahh, forget about electrical fuses. Take them all out and replace them with 4-40 screws." Stuff wouild still work, but you put other components at greater risk.
