Put some Road Hawgs on the WW-2 to snap a few pics.. I think the body is too high, ha!! Doesn't look quite right.. the stock tires still look the best, I think!! :D

Really like those tyres fella! I think the Body always looks too high on the WWII regardless of which tyres are on, but they suit the car well i reckon. Reminds me i need to take the Redbull out for a whirl. Ed

cfjan

Yeah, but the body can definite use lowering 2 holes on the bodyposts!! Ha!!

I think I will run those road tires on the Lunchbox instead.. maybe.. I don't know.. ha!

Hi from the deep South Pacific. Got a WW2 had it for years but, it now will only run REALLY SLOW. No matter how much I charge things, clean things etc, it will not go past a very slow crawling pace. Any ideas or tips much appreciated.

id look at the battery for signs of wear. might be toast. also get bearings and an esc at the minimum. oil shocks and stock(not johnson 540) motor to kick things up a notch

assuming your car's gearbox is tip top and the battery is good - then i think it could be that you have a worn-out motor. the silver can motor, or any brushed motor, will loose power over time. you can comm the lathe to restore the motor - or get get yourself a new motor.

let's see, other things that your can do... try resetting the ESC. which i doubt that could coz the car to slow down.

i think its the motor :)

Hiya Kiwi Boy. I assume you're in NZ. I'm in CHCH
Check the motor, esc, bearings, and gearbox. Bearings may have siezed depending on what you last ran it through. Battery may be dead, as the ESC could be, (or is it running a MSC) if it was me, I'd be stripping it down, and re-greasing everything.

Here's my Willy itchin to be let out to play. ;)

I'm either going to put some of those wheels (if they come chromed) or some Traxxas Nitro Rustler/Jato wheels on mine. If they don't look too small that is. Something chrome anyways. Thinking of changing the body colour too, just don't know what  colour, or wether to go for some American camo. Any thoughts from you WW2 owners would be much appreciated

Thanx

If you want chrom wheels, why don't you use the stock ones? (just curious..) Sorry, should have explained myself better. I like 5 & 6 spoke chrome wheels, wether they be on a R/C car, or a real one. Don't know what it is about spoked wheels, I guess they look good on everything.

Toonz. Now I've got a WW2, I hardly use the Gator. Mind you, I've got 7 (5 partial runners, and two projects) 1/10th R/C's and only three sets of radio gear, and a 1/16th German King Tiger tank with 4 channel gear, yet still I only have two hands. Need more, hands (and Radio gear) that is.

A couple of weeks ago. Yeah my daughter was driving my mini Gator the other day, (and now she wants one. Might get her the mini Frog) and I was driving the WW2. Seems the mini Gator don't go so good when WW2 is trying to crush it. :p All good fun though.
Looking at getting a Midnight Pumpkin and a Vanessa's Lunchbox too. Just to have the TTTT (Tamiya Triple Trouble Treat) pack of wheelie kings

toonz
05-03-2007, 03:43 AM
willy+midnight+pumpkin=TTTT and Trouble Trio :)

willy is a naughty truck
midnight is a compress wild lorry
pumpkin is a seductive van (her name is vannessa!)

hahaha these 3 sure go together! and not forgetting that the midnight and pumpkin have hornet gearbox!

TamiyaRacer69
05-03-2007, 04:39 AM
Not soo much a naughty truck, just has a slight case of A.D.D

I like the Pumpkin more than the Lunchbox, but only by a little. I like old trucks, especially Chevs. But I guess Mr Tamiya likes Fords more. :p
To narrow it down, Monster Trucks rule, whatever shape/style they come in. :D :D

HAHAHAHAHA ADD!

Attention Deficit Disorder!

yes i agree, that tamiya is good at making trucks/ford lorries.

eg, subaru brat and the Ford high lift. they are amazing vehicles :)

speaking of willy, i think i'm going to get a 20T pinion and sport tuned to replace the current stock 18t and silver can. the speed is getting boring already :)

good day all - i had an original willy back in the day and pretty much drove it into the ground (wish i had kept it!!!) and now i have a newer WW that is on the shelf collecting dust. i drove it like crazy, but parked it as i was worried about that cool body getting torn up. i just pulled it off the shelf and plan to do a rebuild, but something a little ...uh...different. We'll see how it goes - i'll post pics as i go.

cheers!

Hiya Old School, and welcome.

My first site of some crazy R/C car doing wheelies, was back when I was about 13 or 14, when I got my first Tamiya, a Grasshopper. My mate (at the time) his sister's boyfriend had an original Wild Willy, and I could sit there and watch this crazy thing poppin` wheelies where-ever it went for hours. (if only batteries lasted that long).
Now 20+ years later I have a Wild Willy 2 (my second) and I can still see the one from way back then, front wheels up in the air racin down my mates driveway. Smiles all `round.
Would love to get a hold of an original Wild Willy.

First thing is find a way to get 4 12mm wheels on here, so some old TA02 steering knuckles for the bill perfectly.

Old_School_RC_1
05-07-2007, 08:39 PM
added 4 tlt wheels and TG01 wide axles and hubs to give it a little more width..starting to get there! Also removed the frame rails for the side. I want to experiment with this chassis, but no permanant mods so i can turn it back to stock.

Hi all.
Recieved a package today. WW now running a Sport Tuned, and 20tooth (the package). WAAAAHOO!!!! Wheelies unlimited, back flipping uncontrolable. Not good. Still fun though, can't wait to get my Willy out in the dirt.

Don't keep us waiting too long Old School.

Well, i wasn't sure if i wanted to keep the willy body on it or not, i wanted to bash around and not have it worry about it getting all beat up. With the TLT wheels on, it has almost the same wheelbase as the original TLT set-up...hmm. So i tried the TLT body and it was a little out of scale (too small). So then i went shopping and found a toy rc ram that looked about right.

a little bit of hacking later....

THanks! it is most definitely a work in progress...have to clean up the body mounts and then do some trimming and painting and what not....but it's off to a good start! hoping to get a little further over the weekend.

Del, i think you are right - that bumper's gotta go!

Old_School_RC_1
05-15-2007, 08:11 PM
wired up and ready to go! i wanted to get it all together and take a few test runs (aka beating) before i worried about painting anything.

i started with a 17t double and the 18t pinion....way too much power! i couldn't keep the front wheels down and as much fun as that is, it's not what this truck was for. so then i tried the 20t and it still had plenty of power for wheelies, but just went way too fast for this chassis. i then dropped in the stock motor with the 20t pinion to offset for the smaller wheels and it runs just about perfect. still lifts the front wheels, but is very controllable and has a top speed well matched to the chassis.

Only thing else i had to do was put 40 wt oil in the rear shocks and i have 1 solder joint to fix, but otherwise it's tough as nails and FUN! Due to the smaller wheels and the lighter body, the CG is much lower, and with the heavier shock oil it is pretty stable. This is the mini Tamiya should have made!

going to clean it up and do some paintwork. i think the only thing i might add is a "sport tuned" motor for just a little more go juice.

toonz
05-16-2007, 02:30 AM
nice mod and the black cva makes it look like a real truck.

20t+sport tuned is really good enough.

Yea, mine's running a 20tooth/Sport Tuned combo, and it's well enough fun. Still got that spring/bumper thingee on. It has to go mate.
Just quickly. I scored two Tamiya LunchBoxes the other day, see post in LunchBox thread for more details and pics.

i know, i hate the bumper but it has saved me from carnage a few times. I left it on for the test run, I'll have to see what else i have in my parts box.

That bumper is the trademark for Wild Willy though!!

TamiyaRacer69
05-17-2007, 03:23 AM
cfjan, yea it is, but it not a Wild Willy unless it's got the Willys Jeep body attached, :D the bumper just doesn't suit that body.

cfjan
05-17-2007, 09:33 AM
Does it still wheelie w/ the small tires?

I have TLT myself, and I am tempted to put them on the WW-2 to see how it works, ha!!

Old_School_RC_1
05-18-2007, 06:27 AM
it wheelies great! with the 18t pinion and stock motor, that's pretty much all it does. Bumping up to the 20t gives a good top speed and still pulls wheelies from a standstill, but it's much more controllable. i'd say it's about comparable to the stock willy with this combo.

05-18-2007, 10:55 AM
Ha, cool!!

quick update - body got some details paint and the brass on the chassis is painted also. Also got some different wheels that are close to the same diameter that i want to try. This project is just about done! (thankfully as i have an F350 kit waiting in the wings...) pics to come!

Hi.

I too, have recently purchased a WW2.

I am interested in widening willy as outlined at http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/58242wild/wild8/wild8.htm.

However, it appears that since the Baja Champ has been discontinued,
Tamiya does not have the 'c' parts tree listed as a part. Does anyone know of substitutes for this?

Also the Wild Daggar drives shafts. I found a 'Drive Shaft Bag' and
RC Thunder Shot Drive Shaft St Item #9805551 Listed on the Tamiya site. Any ideas which one would work?

Thanks!

This can hold two seven-cells now, and a Novak XL 14.4v.
It will have a 35-turn cordless drill motor. Tires are from a Mattracks truck, with homemade adapters.
To make this fit, you need to trim 1/2" from each of the longer frame mount pegs, making them all the width of the front pair.
And the CAD file:
