My friend and I am doing a science fair exihbit on compareing the wieght of a servo actuator and my own design called the E.M.S. or the electro magnetic servo. It is too complicated to explain but I have a queston.I am taking a free flight cox model and hope to turn it into rc.I bought it at walmart for 15 bucks.I took a tyco reciever from a micro car and put it in the plane. My friend and I had to cut a lot out of the plane to get a desired wieght.I took out the original motor and put in another lighter motor. It is smaller than the Mabuchi N20 motor.I have a 2 cell batt. in it also.I plan to make a rudder actuator for the plane. As of now it wieghs a little less than 2.5 oz.I was wondering if anybody has done anything simuler to this and if so can you give me some tips on the conversion and how to make an acuator.Thank you Thomas Baughman.

Cox has released this plane with a single channel rudder only system complete for $30

I just finished a conversion of the Cox Sky Cruisers Highway Patrol. I used the RFS100 Receiver / esc / magnetic actuator system. I'm trying a direct drive G9330 motor from Electronic Goldmine with a Gunther prop. Don't know if it'll have enough guts.

Weight came out at 2.8 oz. Haven't flown yet, but taxied. Waiting for spring to return (next week?)

That is the same plane Im working with.My friend and I had to cut a lot off the fuse. to get it to wiegh at 2.5 oz.I still have to make the actuator yet but it shouldnt add too much wait on it.I to am using the
Gunther prop.I think it should fly but you never know.

The actuator works on the plane using the tyco rx. It doesnt work too well because as my friend I made we began to become lazy and made the coil slopy but at least it works.

Genebond,
2.8oz is a little heavy for the rffs100 system. We primarily designed the rffs100 for extremely light, samll planes. A rule of thumb weight we like to use is no heavier then 1.75oz. I hope it works for you and if it does please let us know I would be interested in seeing what the Cox plane looks like. However I just wanted you to be aware that the plane may just be too heavy for the application the rffs-100 was enginered for.

Sincerely,
Dan

Hi Bleriot
Do you know of a specific store that sells the single-channel version?
Thanks.

Dopler,I bought the single chanal plane at walmart. But mine never did fly. I dont know why and if it did fly it would only fly for about 1 minute. The radio gear is not very eficent for micro flight,or well I thought it wasnt. You can still buy one if you want. Maybe my plane is just messed up or something.
