Mark,
We will run both days if the weather permits. But, I think on Saturday we will mostly be working on the track. The rain did a little damage but mostly it showed me where the low spots were and the drainage areas that needed correction. Gotta put in one more drain line and make the main drain area a little deeper. That rain was perfect for settling in the track, a good long soaking. I'll firm up the plans later on in the week.

Mark,
Came across some real nice clay over at Ellicott City. Having it hauled Thurs. Took Friday off to bobcat it in. Looks like Saturday will be the day. That way IF we get rain Sun I can get a final look at the drainage patterns.
Man, this has been a lot of work.
If I hold some club races on Sundays later on in the Spring are you interested? First one Gonna run 1/10, 1/8, Maxx, novice also. Not trying to bring in the real crazy fast crowd this year. Just keep it fun the way you do. We can coordinate off weekends. Most I will run a race is every other weekend over here.
Tentative 1st race will be April 21st.
So late cause water not on till April 1 (so I'm told)
JR's opening day April 6
Out of town 7th to 14th (owe my wife this due to my absence)
Hence 21st.
May run two weeks in a row to prepare for the Gas Offroad Regionals at the Tiltyard 1st weekend in May.

Hey all!!!!!!
A few of us are planning a get together at Oregon Ridge park this Sunday 3/10/02 1:00pm weather permitting. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come out. We have a few people that are interested in forming a MD club and have we have a name. I would like to invite all who are interested in either joining or running can come up there to meet. If you would like to talk to me more either leave a post or e-mail me.
Mark98SS
03-06-2002, 05:33 PM
Marko, pics please! I won't make it this weekend as I have to getahead of the honeydo list a little. If your gonna hold organized races I'll make sure to run here on your off weekends as my place is more of a pickup game than a race, as you know. I just bought a water trailer for my shop but it probably'll be available most of the time. It's a small one - 350 gal towable with a pickup & a gas 2" pump built in.

Mark,
Don't know how to post pics. Got some good ones last weekend though. If I can find someone to do it (George) I will. May take you up on that water if the County is too slow. I have some soil cement coming and want to get it down before any real racing occurs. That takes a 7:1 ratio water:adhesive. If I get done early enough I'll take some more pix Fri/Sat.
Sabian see you Sat.
George,
It's a little late so I won't call. However, I will be working my ass off Friday to get it most of the way done, got the big machine again so I'll be slinging clay. 3 is cool I should be done with the clay by then and need to redo the jumps. I plan on playing Sat by 11:00 latest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
timberwolf,
we will be a MD club, have a place to run any day, it will only cost a little track maintenance on non-race days, we are a straight shot down 95 to 100, a big track(160X70), and a lot of guys running. why fight it-come on down?
Mark98SS
03-07-2002, 06:32 AM
Marko if you can put the pics on your computer you can post 'em. Just below the box where you type in a reply is a button to attach a file. Just hit browse & find it in your computer.

Mark the soil cement is used by quarry operations for dust control on quarry roads(dirt). It is a nontoxic, friendly stuff. I'll find out from GT Eddie where he gets it, but it is pricey 255 for a 55 gal drum I believe.

Got 50 yds of clay in today. Was hoping to get more but the turn was over an hour. Enough to cap the entire lower area though.

I have not been there since Fall and it was looking pretty shabby. Nice job! If you ever need some Help count me and my son in. I cant wait to come and try it out. Will you be having races there ? What is the best time to come and race on the weekends? Saterday or Sunday?
MadMarko
03-07-2002, 10:05 PM
Thanks Mark, It's fun to run on.
Damifudo - we will be playing on Saturday after we get done in the morning. Calling for rain on Sunday. If everyone stays off it right after a rain it should settle in real nice. We will most likely be organized to race 3rd weekend in April. On Sundays, so as to not conflict with JR's race place in Waldorf.

Madmarko,
Thanks for the warm invitation, I never saw the track until 2 weeks ago when I met you, but you did one Hell of a Job on fixing that track up. Man I feel like I own the Only Electric in the state of MD but we'll see, hopefully your track will draw even more interest from all over including Electrics! If not, I'll just race my T3 and do my best of staying out of you guys' way. I will say though, after seeing your Purple Buggy Eater 1/8 scale fly, I might have to sell the Ole T3 and get me one of them there Monsters!!! See ya next Sat!!

Buggies Rule!
FYI - We got our ROAR club affiliation today. It's official we are club 1884 Region 2.:D Pasadena Offroad Raceway.
Now, if Parks and Planning would just get their Doo-Doo together we can start to firm up a race schedule.
I was thinking twice a month on Sundays alternating between a club race and a ROAR race. We have access to an AMB system for timing. We can do some sort of series like best 4 of 6 club races used to qualify for a final showdown. Can't be for money due to Roar rules, but it can be for trophies etc. I'll talk to JR at the first race down there to see if there is any interest in a ROAR series thing as well between the two tracks. Also, I will try and enlist the help of the sponsored guys to get together some sort of level 2 (State or regional) trophy event near the end of the season. All this can be talked up at other events a bunch of us go to.
Any and all feedback welcome. It's you're track.

MadMarko
03-13-2002, 07:06 PM
Hey Mark,
Gonna be there Sat and Sun this weekend. Got a couple things to wrap up. Have to till a couple sections that settled during the rain and are holding a little water.
Come on down! Crowd will probably be a little thinner since JR is going to have open practice down in Waldorf. But that's cool. Got a little hectic at times last weekend.
Sabian
03-13-2002, 07:47 PM
Madmarko,
JR's place, is that the one that he built behind his house with the barn next to it on Clayton Rd? Take RT. 5 to blinking yellow turn back that way? Next time you talk to him, could you ask him if he plans on running electric there. Does he plan on advertising anywhere cause according to Dougs Hobby Shop, that track is in Turmoil at the moment so I haven't heard a thing about this weekend or any weekend for that matter. Damn!! just want to run my electric somewhere with other electrics :) Waldorf is much shorter for me to drive, but I'll still come up to pasadena also just for the atomosphere. Thanks Man, Keep Trucking!!

Shrink it and cut the resolution. Adobe Photo has a nice program. If you want it, I'll burn it for ya. Tilling works GREAT! Sweeper now smooth as a babies ass. I think I'll till either the approach's to the doubles or the chicane this afternoon.
Sabian,
I'll bring an extra Nitro vehicle:D I don't think that the turmoil will hurt opening day. However, JR did not get enough done to run Saturday practice and he's looking for folks to run Sunday for feedback. I may go down for a few mins. Want to chat with JR.

MadMarko,
That sounds great! I am sure that once I drive a GAS vehicle, I am going to be hooked. Stopped at the Hobby store today to look at 1/8th buggies. Never drove one before but I think I am going to get one. The one I think I will probabley buy is the Hyper 7 pro. Whats your opinion on that particular buggy? I want something to be as competetive as all you High Flying, Dirt throwing Guys :D I am looking to spend around $500 bucks so if you know of a better deal somewhere or better buggie, let me know. Another thing, Wife will kill me if I have 2 R/C Vehicles:), Do you know anybody that may be interested in buying a T3?;) Saturdays a big day for me personally, depending on the outcome of people who bring electrics, if any, but if hardly anybody brings any, I'll just go with getting a buggy. FYI: NEVER OWNED A GAS CAR EVER, so I'll be looking for LOTS of help from you Guys:D which in turn means I don't really have to talk with JR cause I'll be running the same as you guys. See ya Saturday!!
BubbaStump,
Hope you can make it Saturday. Tell Mom Hi:D
MadMarko
03-15-2002, 09:37 PM
Sabian,
I will put together my mini buggy TR Inferno 15 with a picco.
It's easy to handle and has a great motor. The Hyper 7 Pro is a good buggy. The only weak spot I am aware of is the lower front arms are a little soft but with your driving ability from electrics it shouldn't be a problem. Bill, the owner of the track JR is operating, runs the Pro. Just don't get the stock Hyper. It takes too many parts to get set up correctly. I will be up there all day. If it drizzles a little it'll be great for the track.

Hey Matt,
Mark here. George forwarded your mail to me. Checked out your site and have a bunch of changes you may want to make to get it in line with reality this year so far as tracks go.
Should be able to run this weekend, not this week. Track is saturated right now and I will be working on it the next two evenings to till a few more areas. I will post how it is on Friday evening.
Everyone keep yer fingers crossed, I meet with the county tomorrow afternoon to hammer out the details.

Hey All!
I always hear about this track, and have never gone to see it before! I work at the Hobby Works in Laurel as the Nitro Technician, and I always get guys coming in and talking about the Pasadena track. I finally see pictures of it! I wish I had a buggy to race there and try the track out myself. But I am not going into the off-road scene yet, until I have more money. I am sticking with the "just as fun" on-road racing for now! I'll be joining the Off-Road scene soon with a GS Storm buggy! =)
GREAT TRACK!! I'll stop by soon sometime and check y'all out! Unfortunately, I cannot make the Sunday races since that is when I am at work at the hobby store. But Saturdays look nice! =)

Well, Scott WAS the manager. Saturday is his last day before he leaves. I am also a motor tuner as well as Juan. There are now three Nitro technicians there, so we get the job done faster and have less people waiting. I don't think I have met you yet. I have only been working there for 3 weeks. I am still getting to know the crowd there. So if you see me on Sunday at the work bench, come and say hi, so I may know you as well.

Track looking good for Sat.
Tilled in 1/2 of the back straight and corrected a couple of the jumps. Flows much better now.
County is on board with us now and offering some perks as soon as I clear up some details with them. Very productive meeting with the entire staff Thurs afternoon. I'll go over it with everyone tomorrow.
Crazy RC Nitro, stop on out and check it out. You'll quit onroad for sure. Also Saturdays will be racing at JR's race place in Waldorf. He's been running a track for 10+ years so it'll always be great.
Plenty of racing for all.
Note - JR's will be technical and not for the faint of heart!

Well, I doubt I will be quitting On-road anytime soon. It is the most affordable right now, and there are plenty more tracks for on-road racing as well. I will get back into Off-road when I have the money again. I never said On-road was better than Off-road. I like them equally! =) After all, my first car was a buggy, and so was my second! =)

Tracks been there over 10 years in various states of disrepair.
New configuration a little over a month. Complete rebuild using entire area. Groove is being worn in pretty nicely.
FYI
Brooming=small price to practice on a full blown track for free.
Don't worry, not taking offense at you, just reminding everyone that this is/was a volunteer effort. The primary builders should not be the ones constantly doing the work. It's getting a little tiresome.
What I may end up doing is locking the gate once or twice a day until it gets broomed. I'd rather not, I'd rather have everyone pitch in. Keeps it very friendly when each of us takes ownership of our right to play.
By the way I am trying to formalize the racing schedule now.

One thing for everyone.
NO ALCOHOL!
ITS A FRIGGIN PUBLIC PARK!
I HAVE WARNED A COUPLE FOLKS ALREADY!
It is not my responsibilty to monitor this. I will not be put in the position of being the heavy. I will however, start calling the local police. It's against the law and it's against ROAR rules (yes we are a Roar sanctioned track). It's a play area for crying out loud. If this is too much to ask pack up your toys and play elsewhere. I/we don't need you. What do people think the Dept of parks will say when they empty the trash cans and they are full of beer bottles?????????????????
Too much effort has gone into this to lose it. The county has blessed this track because of the positive feedback they have gotten from the drivers and the neighborhood. Lets not screw it up. Kids also play here as well as my son and I don't appreciate it. We are guests.
Responses Welcome.

Mark, make up some signs. We had to do that at the 1/4 midget track years ago, and still had to ask people to not drink. If everyone will watch out for things like that, and ask politely, 9 out of 10 times, the folks will be cool about it, and toss it in the trash.
I ran at Bill's yesterday and today. Got Doug's new H7 broke in. He ending up going with the rtr, but we did some upgrades...Picco Comp, hitec digi servo for steering, and a 945 for throttle. And he bought my old CX2P. We only got to put about 5 tanks through it on the track but he looked really promising. He's still got a few things to get, but I'm gona do a bunch more work on it next week to get more stearing out of it. I also ran into an issue with the engine. I fogot to take out the plug we broke it in with, and it was fouled. It was temping at like 280 with the Raytek, I won't tell you how far off on the cold side it is. I changed the plug, and it dropped down to about 190, which was perfect.

Oh, Mark, I forgot to mention. You were dead on about JR's track being technical. It's totally different now than it was last year. I think it's 12 turns now. From the start/finish line you head into a probly 120 degree right hander go over the table top stab the brakes heading into a left hander to a short shoot to another left hander roll into the throttle to come into the triple, you have 2 options for going fast peg it and pray you clear the triple or be conservation and double single it like most of us were doing, after the triple stand on the brakes for a right hander head over the big hill which now has a stair step back side going through the up coming left hander you have to go over the woops after the left hander is a set of sharks teeth into a right hander and a short shoot then down the back straight into a right hander into a short shoot to the only 180 degree turn on the track which also has about a 6-8 inch straight drop off into a small whoop section to a left hander into another short shoot into another left turn roll the throttle for the double into a slight left jog into a 180 sweeper and cross the finish line. That is one lap in detail around JR's track. It still needs some work before the 6th, but in 2 months that track has completely changed, and he has done about 98% of the work all by himself.

LOL.... you misunderstood what I was getting at. I meant "to heck with the brooming, lets cut a groove in it." :D
See, I'm a huge fan of the rough and ragged tracks. I'm ok with the dirt road racing but the raw tracks, I love.
Anyway you guys,
Thanks for having us today, we had a blast. Hope we didn't wreck the track to much!! :D
Nice meeting everyone (when I had a chance to set down my radio) and nice running with everone. Good bunch of guys you have there!!
btw... I didn't see anyone drinking beer but I sure could have used one myself, after marshalling the 1/8 after that broom job.
I ate some dust, lemme tell ya!! ;)
A little misting of the track and it will be killer fast for that pink truck!!! LOL
Till next time and thanks again,

Marty, glad you had a good time. I like a rough track as well. Blue groove is good for speed but a little offroad is good too!:D Keep on coming down. You guys from up North gotta make it to a couple races.
I did not take it personally, it's all cool.
When the water goes on April 1st we can fine tune it a little.
You all were ripping with the 1/10th's. It was good to see so many out there. A couple times you had almost ten on the track without the buggies flying around. (Mine was the purple one that did a few barrel rolls at the end of the straight.)
Steve, a couple signs would be helpful but thats a sensitive call. Do you shoot yourself in the foot with the county by saying you need a sign against drinking and possibly stir up the suspicion. Not! We will just sort through it, and like you said it will all work out in the wash.
I decided I want to treat JR's track like any other new track. Run it for the 1st time on race day. I know the soil condition so it's a matter of shock and spring settings and going for broke.

Cool beans on the beer subject.
As for JR's, all I can say is wow. It's fast, and technical, and he still has some more work to do before it's completed. It's only going to get faster.

Could I make one suggestion?
changing the double's a little to suit the 1/10 as well. mainly the left double...change the slop of the ramp a tad, so either we can clear the doubles, or not land on the top of the 2nd one of the flat spot on the landing. That really took a toll on a few trucks..
And I did notice this for a few ppl.. Try to make sure everyone grabs a clip from the board, there were some ppl having radio problems yesterday.. but overall, had a great time..

Flea is right on the Clips. i met a guy and he got shot down twice and had some significant damage to both his trucks. Hes was a good sport a bout it. Thats exactly the reason why i invested in PCm with Fail Safe. Had a runaway buggy once and that was scary. As for the left double. its even tricky with the buggies i tell ya. you gotta hit that corner just righ and hit the first bum just righ to make it. other than that i think the track is awesome and lotsa fun. With the risk of sounding like a whiner i do wish more people would marshall.

I never had to much trouble with the left double with my XR, it was hitting it straight and landing straight that kept getting me. I don't know what it is about that track, but it has always messed with my head. Maybe it was from having broken alot of GT parts, and having a couple run aways. Believe me, on the subject of radio interference, I've been know to get all up in peoples faces if it happens during a qualifier of a main. It's not something that should be tolerated even in the slightest. Consider that most guys have at least $1000 tied up in there buggy, just the attached items that is, and somebody turns on their radio in the pits. Your flyin down the back straight, everything is cool until that point, then you let off to set up for the turn and the car keeps going, right into the fence. I do this hobby on about a $1400 a month budget. After uncle Same gets his share, the bank gets their part, and the phone company their's, I'm left with about $850 each month. Then you have to add in food and gas, that is why I get so mad when someone bangs up my car, or turns a radio on in the pits. That is also why I almost quit RC last fall, after having spent about $800 on a brand new XR, only to get it bent up really good in the B main while running 2nd, and a lapped guy thought it would be cool to get his lap back while passing me in the air, and punching the rear of my car. I still ended up 3rd in the B, so it didn't mess me up to bad. But when you figure that I was realing in the leader every lap, I had more than one reason to be hot.

I marshalled & swept Sunday, one prob with a free track situation is people taking too much advantage of it w/o giving something back.
I found the left double difficult too, Mark's talking about turning that into a triple by adding one in between the other two. Then you could double it with a soft single after or be a Stud Muffin & triple the whole thing

Triple would be nice..
would make a softer landing on us 1.10 trucks, and the 1.8 could treat just like they do now, and clear it all.
IF it does become a triple, on the 2nd hump now, is a flat spot.. it sucks when you run into it.. I've hit it a few times, it just stops the truck... ouch!
oh btw, I got some pic's and video clips on my site from Sunday

All good suggestions guys.
I was watching to see where the trouble spots were on the track. It was the first time we really had a boatload of folks running. Went by this evening to take a close look at where the faces got chewed up etc. Yes Mark, I am trying to get one or two loads of CLEAN clay to work a few areas including the soon to be triple! I am running out of energy so it won't be a lot. SO, if anyone knows where I can get some let me know. My guy is out.
So far as frequency clips go - it's everyones responsibility to look out for it. I will work on improving the board. If anyone is artistically inclined and has access to a laminating machine a sign could be made regarding clip use and a warning. Those that are experieced drivers should take the time and explain to others the courtesy's involved in racing. Not get crappy about it. If you see someone without a clip just explain it. Remember we all had to start somewhere! I have no shame in admitting that when I started over at Marks I forgot to grab a clip a few times and so did Hunter and no one yelled at us. I don't take that well. Also in a play environment, not an actual race situation, it's harder to control what folks do.
A special thanks to those who did help out and marshall and broom etc. I did not do a whole lot but then again I work on it all week in the evenings.

Thanks Matt,
Good chatting with ya last night. Weather looks to actually be pretty fair through Sat. A little drizzle is a good thing for the track. I will chase down some kind of dirt, clay or loamy clay by Thurs. This weekend is really the last shot at getting it correct before opening day.
The following weekend is JR opening then I leave for a week Sun thru Sun (the price I had to pay for not being at home so much). That leaves Sat 20th final prep day (track closed) and Sun 21st racing.
Brian/George
I am going to pick up a piece of 3" pipe today and set it so that the gate can be moved this week. After it sets up for a day can one of you cut the top bar and fencing neatly so the gate can be relocated and the extra fence be placed in the old hole. The stand has got to be moved desperately.

Marko,
I really want to help on the track but it is so hectic lately that I barely find time to come out at all. That’s why I will marshal and sweep when I am at the track to make up for it. I also want to make one comment on the track. Is there a reason why there is a large Hump on the outside/inside of the curve in the semi straight from right to left? It really screws me up. haha. Makes me stay on the right of the lane and then hit the barrier mid curve. It’s very tricky and probably done with intent, right?
As for the Radio Freq's, I am used to flying RC Helicopters and always had PCm with FailSafe RX and carried that over to RCCars. That way I will never have a runaway again granted I don’t forget to SET the F/S which I did once. Talk about embarrassing.

Yes Anthony, the chicane section is done that way on purpose. It's a crowd pleaser right in front of the stand area. Only 1 fast line through it. Too far left or right and you're toast. Got me a couple times, can you say barrell roll:rolleyes:

The washboard is awesome. When you come around the corner and line up to the middle and jump four bumps your in the gravy zone. If you dont. good luck. hehe. I thought the track was cool. The track is tough for 2 wheel drive trucks but that's the fun of it. The harder the better.
Only thing I saw that could use a change is either raising the drivers stand a foot or banning people from driving on the ground to the left of the drivers stand. And I didn't see a pit lane, but that's not to say there wasn't one. :)
The chicane section was killer, I loved that!!!!! :D I can't count the times I bicycled all the way into the straight.
The long sweeping turn after the straight was **** as well. I had to stay in the throttle and hope for the best, or else I was going to crash. (or both)
Anyway.... I had a great time Sunday.
Wish it was a little closer. Well, allot closer!! ;)

Don't think that people driving on the track is something that only happens at Pasadena. I can't count the number of time we had to tell the same guys at Waldorf both Saturday and Sunday, not to be driving on the track.
The pit entrance is right before the jump coming up to the whoops/sharks teeth.
As for the chicane, ya just gotta go for it and hope for the best.

Thanks guys,
James - I saw the stand problem. I had already raised it a bit but it didn't help. The reason I'm moving the gate is so that I can move the stand down another ten feet or so to center it on the track. This should block that area off. Thought we could work it out but I guess not.
The good news is the straight stays with the sweeper, the Sharks teeth stay, the chicane stays (I may make the humps a little taller and wider), the only noticeable change will be double goes to triple, touching up the jump faces for better lift, and making the berms a little more defined.
And------Matt is working on a web site so we can post the schedule and stuff.

Hey guys its Matt A. This is my first post here. It looks like this is the place for MD racing talk. So whats the scoop on tracks? From what I have been able to gather, JR's runs on Saturdays and Pasadena runs on Sundays? Is JR's running at the old doug's site or a new one? What if anything is happening at the SMOR site from last year? ANSWERS, I WANT ANSWERS! j/k
The buggy is ready and im ready for some fun. I just need to figure out what track to run.
TalleyRacing

Matt, JR took over the SMOR track at Billy's. It's super technical and killer fast. Already has 3 big races on the schedule. He'll be running every Saturday starting on the 6th. Mark's track in Pasadena will run every Sunday starting on the 20th. Bring that old car out and get down and dirty.

Everyone OK with this.
Track is killer.
Ya mean for pratice runs right? that would be nice..would cut down on interferance. and give everyone time to work on there r/c and or Marshall for the others.
ie: 1/10 marshall for 1/8 and 1/8 marshall for 1/10
Since practice is always free..that could be the way of payment.
run for 30 mins, Marshall for 30 mins.

Sure Doug,
1/8 is the bomb, but others gotta start somewhere too. Looking good out there. Track was wet today but guess what - the new sections held up absolutely perfectly. If only I had the bux for another five loads. We will see what the track pulls in after a couple races.

Marko, I'll be there & am willing to help. Gonna run the buggy:D Are you gonna test the scoring equipment ahead of time?
MadMarko

Mark you gonna race? How cool is that! Opening day is the 21st. Don't need to test the equipment I will be using GT Eddies stuff from his onroad track. They will have been running for a month by then and it has worked well so far. Drop in the loop and go!!
You ought to try and get down again before the races. Put in another 20 yards of really clean clay last weekend. Did the triple, redid the washboard section, added a step up jump just after the sweeper to bleed speed, moved the gate and the stand. Refaced the jumps. It worked:D You will love it! Still big motor territory but a lot friendlier to the small blocks. I won't be around for the next 2 weekends but have at it.

Anthony, I was the guy that did the track announcement.
Bubba, I put the stairs on the fence because I didn't have a key. I noticed someone pulled the pins on the gate, tractor was fine before I left, which was about 630 Sunday. But that doesn't mean much, as there were still people there. I guess we're going to have to come up with something soon. As for the battery acid being dumped all over the tractor, what's the deal there? Did somebody pull the top off the battery and dump it out?

Steve,
I never question if it's worth the effort or not. What would be the point? They win, we lose, I for one do not go down that way. Not in my personality!
So what was the real damage? A couple gate hinges and a tractor seat? Was the track damaged? The gate hinges can be replaced and Brian can weld the ******* in place - problem solved!
So far as the tractor goes I will have to come up with a better solution. Been thinking about an old trailer anyway so I don't have to keep carrying the crap in the back of my truck. I will deal with it when I come back by posting some signs. Did anyone call the police and report it?
Brian call the friggin police, they sit out there all the time.
I am trying to get an earlier flight back tomorrow so I can get up there and see what needs doing for next week.

All that was done with the gate was to pull the pins out of the hinges. They Stuck the pins back in the pin holes. I went out Friday and put the pins back in the hinges, duno how long that will last, but the attempt was made. As for the tractor, looks like a new battery, seat, a washing, and a little touchup on the paint to cover the white whatever it is stuff. The track didn't even get messed with. Looks to me like the work of a couple kids with nothing better to do.

Brian,
I will try and be out there around 3:30 or 4 tomorrow to keep the track dried off. I have to check with eddie, we may not be able to put the cement down Sat if it's going to rain. Cost too much money.
Qualifiers will start promptly at 11:00. Depending upon how many show (and it may not be a lot with the threat of rain) will determine the times of the mains. The VA Beach crew has already backed out - too long a ride with the risk.
You will get at least one possibly two quals in before 1 if we run 1/10th first.
I will buzz you on the radio tomorrow.

Hey Steve,
Had a great time pitting for you yesterday. i actually thought it was fun getting all muddy. i thought at one time time that i was going def but that was just mudd in my ears. :) It gave me a good chance to see how pitting was done. One thing should be changed in the pitting area. The Black pipe should be replaced with a block of wood or something square because its hard to keep the truck/buggy balanced on it while fueling.
Hope to race myself next weekend (if there is a race). Otherwise ill just bash a bit.

Anthony, glad you had fun. I definately owe you. Especially for the quick thinking with fixing the antenae. Sorry about the mud, that won't happen again, if they even mention rain, I'm stayin home where it's dry, and just fine tune the car. We actually did talk about getting something set up to use as a pit wall with the thought of being able to fuel the cars more easily.
Brian, now that I think of it, I might be able to come up with a couple hundred feet of 3/4"x6" planks. Get enough of them together and we could have a decent pit wall.

How about a 12' x 2' (or longer) starter box table along the fence in the pits and level the ground underneath to put your box and fuel bottle when your race is over, if ya don't want to carry it back to your pit table? (or you share your stuff with someone racing the next qualifier)

The Black Cat antennae will enable you to keep the antenna inside the body

I thought it was fast too untill a bought a old T3. Even with someone's old 24 turn spec motor and a 1200 Radio Shack battery, that truck is quick and handles way better then the GT ever will. (for a few minutes anyway) ;)

Even though the weather did not cooperate it was a good day.
We had 42 racers in the qualifiers. Not bad for a gloomy day!!!
I have NEVER been to a track where that many folks showed up on a crappy day! Thanks everyone for coming out. I hope it was worth it, it was to me.
Yeah, the pit area could use some work. Anyone gonna volunteer? How about the materials? What about the track? I allowed it to get torn up in order for the people who traveled to get in some running? They are welcome - I enjoyed having folks out. Now, should I fix the track this week so we can race on Sunday or worry about the little inconveniences?
While most of the folks packed up and left I got stuck with picking up the trash, gathering up the tools, etc. I got a little help, but again I did not want to do it either, I was wet and exhausted.

I am gonna continue with this thought because I am getting a little pissed. NO TRACK that I have raced at has tables in pit row. NONE! Some have tables to the side or further behind the pit area. None close to the track. What am I gonna do with them at the end of the day? Haul them around with me? I can't leave em there, they will disappear!
Now I'll tell you all what I saw that needs to be done.
I need more help starting the races.
I need more help getting the Marshalls out on the track.
I need more help policing the area after the race.
How about this. I was so busy taking care of everyone else's needs that my son could not race in EITHER ONE of his mains (and he straight up qualified for the A-Main buggy) because I did not have time to fix HIS cars. He did not even complain about it because he knew I was busy.

This track was built for you - the racers. Take some action. If you see for or five 6x6's lying around bring em on up. I'll see that you run for nothing that day. Better yet, I'll continue to let everyone practice for free whenever they want. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
I'll tell you what I am gonna do this week to make some NECESSARY improvements. I got a whopping hundred or so yesterday. I am going to buy the wire and couple loudspeakers, go to the track during the evening, bury the wire over to the stand and pit area, and put up mounts for them. That way we can hear better. I will also be out there filling the ruts, raking the track, and if I cool off I'll put the couple hundred bucks worth of soil cement I bought on the track.
By the way I had no less than 12 or 15 racers tell me how much they like the track, very forgiving, not breaking up stuff, wide lanes, etc.
THANK YOU, that made my day literally! That is why I will not let this little tirade deter me from making this track into something to be proud of. All of us!

I'm sorry I couldn't have stayed longer to help with the clean-up. I was lucky I could have stayed a long as I did. I belive there was a few ppl that was still trying to understand what was going on before and after the race. Just make it a rule, you don't Marshall the race after yours, you can't run your next qual, and be droped to the B or C main. I'm sorry that Hunter couldn't run in either main. I would have gave a hand if I had known, since my truck wans't running right, and droped outta the main.
Did your battery Chargers survie?
If you can, leave a rake and shovel at the track tuesday, I'll be there Wednesday after noon, and will fix a few spots on the track that I know need fixing, and work on the Pit area some more?

Mark,
Sounds like you didn't have a good day, at all. :(
Anyway, what I mean by a starter box table is just something to start the trucks on, it doesn't have to be a table like a picnic table or the likes just something a few boards wide. I'll send a pic to Matt to show you what I mean.
If I lived closer I'd help you out but an hour and a half is a little to far to travel unless you plan a full day towards track work even though I can't race there much, if any. Pick a day, I'll ride down.
Knock a lap off for the marshals that are always tardy, that's what they do where I race at. The first couple races are always tough on everyone unless they're used to the way things are suppose to be run.
I'm trying to talk Matt into doing the road trip to Vineland, Nj and see their setup and how things are run there then applying the same thing to your track. Take a Saturday, grab the gang and head on over to http://68.45.177.67/ubb/fh/index.html for some fun. Sounds like you guys need a break.

ill just bring my starter box into the pit area so ill have a flat surface to put the truck/buggy on. That should work. If you (Marko) write down what kind of lumber you need ill go get it at my own expense (as long as it isnt more than $150 or so).
Let me know and ill pick it up for the weekend. cant come to track during week due to a demanding job and 45 minute ride time. probably and hour during weekdays.

It's a nice track and they put on an A1 show. They've been into it for a long time and have held some big races that wore me out just racing let alone running the show. Like I said at the begining of this thread, I prefer Marks type of track surface over Vinelands but both are a blast, Marks track more like what I'm used to... that's all.

Hey Anthony, tell you what, don't just offer the lumber bring it on out. It will take about 6 8' 6x6, a bunch of 2' pieces of rebar, a 1/2 drill and bit, and a generator to drill them*(or do it at home). Then they need to set, leveled, and spiked and you're home free. I will be out there for sure Thursday from 3pm on. It's not a matter of money. How much you think I've already put out? Couple thousand, I don't care about the money. Ask Steve, he'll tell you, I will give anyone at the track just about anything. Parts, a motor(just for the day, three people were running my motors opening day at JR's), fuel, plugs, tune you're motor, help with set-up. As a matter of fact I built the stand down in Waldorf just because I saw that they needed it, no one asked me. What EVERYONE will have to live with is that I patently DO NOT accept being informed that it's an either or situation. That is for quitters dude. I am a doer. If I cannot race then there will be no races. NOT NEGOTIABLE, my choice to make and no one else's.
Think about it! It's a matter of time. I am not THE organizer, that person does not exist and consequently it is where the help is needed. I am simply the one who got off of my ass and did something about not having a place to run period. I do not feel unappreciated, I got my gratification out of seeing folks have fun. I had a blast both hosting and racing and heard no complaints from anyone.
You missed the point entireley. It's all very simple. Instead of asking/pointing out/or suggesting what can be done, just do it. I am just making a point about putting good ideas into action and not waiting for them to happen. Those who have been helping are greatly appreciated.
James, I travel to lots of races to get away. I designed the schedule with those races in mind from the start. But, thanks for the offer 1/8th is my 1st love and you only run 1/10. I will however get to at least one of you guys events this year for you all supporting our track. So far as getting marshalls out to the track, it's a matter of having more eyes on what is going on. I realize that everyone was excited, and there were newbies, so it was tough. One person can not chase transponders, watch the marshals, start the races, etc. What I need is people to put down there cars and help out with these things. This will get better as newbies realize that they need to have there stuff ready before race day not at the track.

all good ideas about marshaling but there is one common thread. who is going to do the impound? who is going to hand out the vests. who is going to build the table? It's simple yes, but I too have a demanding job, a family, live 30 mins from the track, etc, etc,
Again it points out the obvious, help is required. Like Bo said Just Do It.

You all do have a very nice track up there, no doubt. The basic design is well concieved and executed. But, I bet it got to where it is over time, with a lot of help. We will get there even if I have to rattle a few doors from time to time. Just to let folks know it is thier track, not mine. I just got the ball moving and want to keep it rolling in the right direction.
By the way I did not read most of the above posts, I got sidetracked in the middle of typing it.

NOTICE
I mentioned it at the drivers meeting but it needs to be posted. This Sundays race will be a club race, not a ROAR sanctioned event. We will continue to run at the club level until the Trophy Race in the Summer. Spread the word, ignore the scedule. I will not change the official schedule since it is what the county recieved. It will have to be word of mouth.
Thanks.
Also,
Since we put a hurt on the track Sunday, if the weather doesn't cooperate, we will not push it this weekend. We can always race JR's on Saturday. The following weekend is the Regional at the Tiltyard (Great Track)

Also,
Someone may want to start a thread on the Grid. 42 racers on a crappy day says something about this areas need for facilities.
Never seen that before. Lets go for fifty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

As I sit here and scratch my head, I ponder how in a matter of 3 hours so many posts can be made. That tells me there is much interest in the track.
Where to start.
Anthony, I don't really know my plans for the weekend yet, to early to tell. I'm thinking that I'll just go to Pasadena and do some track maint. To far to drive to Waldorf, even though I love running that track. I'll keep you updated.
Mark, I'm going to start pitting over by you, for several reasons. One being I'm lazy and don't like walking so far to get my transponder. Another being, if I'm not wrenching on my car, and you can not work on your's or Hunter's, bring it to me, I'll do it for you. You've helped me enough in the past, I feel that it's only fair. Also, I'll start a new thread on the Grid about the track.
I'll bring out some planks and other stuff this weekend as well. It's time Mark just sits back in a lawn chair and relaxes while the rest of us do some work. If his wife were like my ex-fiance, by now, she'd probly be making him sleep in the bed of the truck. The time and money he's dropped into the track is scary to say the least. We've got a good thing going, lets keep it that way. If everyone does there part, I feel safe in saying by mid May or June, mid July at the latest, we could pull 100 entries from time to time. It's not out of the question. I only saw 7 racers myself included that made up the 30 entries from Waldorf last year. That means we had 35 new people to the track. Add the extra 5-15 guys from Waldorf that run there now, plus the other folks that are close to Pasadena and the ones from VA Beach and Pa, if they all show up at once, you have close to 100 entries. We gotta pull together and help Mark out now. Everybody has to do their part. I'm getting tired and starting to ramble, so I'll let ya'll ponder this one for awhile.

As i said, i dont have time nor the inlcination to spend my precious little time doing that sort of stuff. i have some physical limitation that would prohibit me from doing that anyway. If that means that i am not wlecome at Pasadena i can understand that and will stay away and find another place to race or bash.
The best i can offer is to buy some lumber and bring it down if i have the time. Thats the best i can do and all i can contribute. Take it or leave it.

Like I was telling Matt.... It's not rocket science, you get done racing, you turn off you truck and radio, turn in the transponder and go marshal. There's plenty of time before your next qualifier to work on your truck. It's that simple!
Once everyone gets into the habit of that, then you'll see the races flow with ease and time to spare.
The pressure is mainly on the race director (the one behind the mic) to keep everything running smoothly.
40 racers on your first day? LOL, I think you all did pretty well. It'll only get better!!! Way to go guys!!!
btw... My name is Martin. ;)

Anthony, my feelings and thoughts are that every little bit helps. If all you can do is provide the materials, tell me the day, and I will be there to unload it myself, and set it all up. I enjoy making the track better for everyone. Plus, with it being in a public park, I'm doing my required comunity service that the Air Force expects of me. Don't be detered by limitations. We will find someone to marshall for you if you can't. Something I've noticed in the 2 years I've been doing this, is that rc racing is just like full size racing. We are just like a family. We pull together and help out.
Mark, if you need help running things, maybe as far as doing the drivers meeting and sign up, let me know. I can lend a hand there if nothing else. I should be able to come out to the track with my car race ready for the most part, every week from now on.

Actually, the ole man that owns the track will shoot ya if you try to do something on his track besides race. ;) But that's the way he wants it. He had the dirt imported and "he hand tamps" the whole track. Only "he" gives it a shot of water once in awhile, nobody else better touch the hoses. If the track is to damp from the nights rain.... no body walks on the track. He just started letting a couple regulars sweep it the last couple years that I know about. But yeah, that track didn't get that way in just a few years and nobody should expect a track like that within a few years. It gets added to or changed a little every year. There's no practice on the track except for 1 hour right before the races, not even the owner practices on it. If practice starts at noon then 11:59.59 he unlocks the gate. If practice is over at 1pm then 12:59.59 you best have your truck in the pit lane and shut off. They're real strict but they have to stick to their guns if they want to run a good show and keep everyone in check. LOL, and they will let ya know if you're slacking, in no uncertain terms.
btw.... you couldn't fit all of the ole mans first place trophies from all over, on your drivers stand if you stacked them all up.
Well, enough about Vineland. I hope you guys don't get upset with me suggesting things. I'm just trying to help the track be the best it can be. Wish I lived closer, well no I don't... I wished the track was closer to me!! :D

Babies up so now I am too. ARGHHHHHH
Martin, OK sorry, once the track is mostly done we may consider keeping it closed except for set times but not now. I think it is worth the effort at this point to get more folks interested by providing a place to run. Plus we have folks who live close by who keep an eye on it. Also, I have no expectaton that the travelers help with maintenance and stuff. You guys help provide the show for the newbies and that has tremendous value. They get to see eye popping speed, look for advice, learn the driving techniques, etc.
Anthony, your offer of materials is greatly appreciated, do not take things so personally. I have yet to tell anyone not to race there. Doubt I ever will if Sunday was an indication of the quality of folks coming out. It could have gotten ugly what with people getting wet and stuff, but instead we all just made the best of it. Once you meet me you will better understand me. Again, it is not a money thing at all. I just need more participation during race day, that's the biggee. Someone to do registration for a little while. Someone who likes to get the cars lined up and started. Someone to help with the transponders. Walk around and if you see someone scratching their head they probably have a question that needs answering. All little stuff, but takes warm bodies to do. Any help is good help, it helps promote ownership of the track. You see, if people know it is their track, not mine, it gets treated with more TLC.

I good idea would be for all the experience guys to pit close to each other. It would serve several reasons. It's not about segregation at all, rather it makes us more accessable if we are all in the same location. If one of us needs help, like Mark for example, we are right next to him. If a newbie is just totally lost, he will know where we are, and can come straight to us. I kinda felt a bit guilty Sunday, because I had my own stuff to do, wanted to help out with running the races bit didn't know where to start, had to try and keep Doug calm and get his stuff rounded up, and also had a brand spankin new racer to try and help out. I kinda put everything/one aside to do my own thing, which is so unlike me. But, sometimes that's just how things go. I'll be more prepared this week, so that shouldn't happen. As long as it doesn't rain again.

I'll be more than happy to contribute with rounding up marshals and that sorta thing. Even though i've only been at the track for about 3 or 4 times quite a few people al;ready know me bcause i let them use my tools and other resources. I know a little bit more than the Avg newbie so that is what i pass on. I actually like marshalling if only dont have to crouch down. # guys would have to help me back up if i did.:D
Give me the exact dimensions and quanity of lumber and ill see how my cash flow is and get it. i cant promise that i will have tiime to bring it to the track before the weekend though.

I'm torn. Saturday is going to be a nice day, right now. I want to work on the track, but I want to race too. Money to go to Waldorf, plus entry fee is the set-back. I think I'll just grab what lumber I can, and head to the track for some maint. Anthony, tell me what time you want to be there, and I'll be there. I'll bring a soldering iron from work in case someone has an inverter or generator on hand. I have to 600kw generators at work, but they wouldn't fit in my truck, or 4160volts, and I think uncle Sam would get pissed.

Steve,
Part of my post got cut off, but the gist of it was you've always helped out with Hunter and I appreciate it. The other part was that as racers we just need to be as aware as possible of whats going on around us. Keeping the core group of racers in the same general location is what other tracks do and it seems to work out. We are easy to find, and someone will always be around to keep an eye on our stuff.
Anthony, unless you have a truck it would be difficult to get what we need. 8' 6x6 timbers are only 15$ ea but they are extremely heavy and we need 6 of em.
Steve the pit starting area can be built using probably 4 or five 2x4's cut into 2' lengths, dug into the top of the hill, perpendicular to the fence and level. Then overlaid with 1x6 running parrallel to the fence nailed to the sleepers (2x4s). If you can get your hands on the 1x6 like you mentioned we are 2/3 of the way there. I can pick up the 2x4's. I would pick up the 6x6's but my truck is freaking packed with track **** already. One of those things is the generator that I now have to carry. Bring some gas and it's yours to use.
I will be more than happy to show everyone what to do, and I carry all the carpentry tools required. I just have to keep focused on the more urgent things. My time on Saturday will be limited if the weather for Sunday is good. Must keep family happy.

I have some lumber available. I think it's 1/2 x 6, but there's enough of it, we can just double it up, and have 1 x 6 planks. Anthony has a truck alright. Big ol' Chevy Duramax, wanna trade for a Toyota Tacoma? lol I'll bring some gas, and a few tools as well. We just aquired about 10 shovels, a couple rakes, some hoes and a gas trencher. Think the trencher would be of use? Let me know, and I'll get it running this week. I'm getting more and more excited about racing this year, what with all the new faces, and being part of constant improvement on the track. It's something we all have to be proud of.

I indeed have a little truck at my disposal. ill see when i can pick up the 8 6x6 and run them down to the track. can i get this at the local home Depot or lowes? any special wood or do i walk up and say gimme 8 6x6 and load them boys?!?
MadMarko
04-23-2002, 12:18 PM
Steve, we don't need a trencher yet. Another couple shovels and rakes would be OK. The wire only needs to be an inch or two down and the 2x4's just sit on the surface. 1x material is really only 3/4" thick any way. it is only a surface to put stuff on not a walkway. The other option would be to nail it together on a flat surface then set it up on a series of blocks say every 6 foot or so kinda like the stand. That way it can be shoved under the stand after racing is over.
Anthony, that would be (6) Pressure Treated (CCA) 6x6 posts at 8' length. They carry em at any Lowes, Depot, 84, etc.
Here's another thought, I would not mind paying a someone to act as the race director. Say a % of the entry fees or some minimum amount. I am totally open as to how to keep it consistant. I am just not open t
