Hello,
Ive got a question about batteries. I'm wondering what is the difference between the $40 packs and the $80 ones? What mah 1700,200,2400 what? Does matching make that much difference? I'm on a budget and I want to spend wisely. I drive an Evader S/T with a MVP stock motor. what can I get cheap and still be competative.
Thanks, Cory

Matching batteries helps the batterie work so much better. They last longer, run stronger, but also take much more time to take care ofU would actually do better with un matched packs because u dont have to take as good of care to them

I know how to discharge my packs. I just have always had used packs, and never understood why should I drop $100 on one battery. will that make my truck that much better?

Corry, I would go for a decent Sanyo RC2400 nicad pack. I don't think the nmh batts are near as durable as the nicads yet. Make shure it's a matched pack. They will charge better, run faster, discharge more evenly, & last longer. A discharge tray is also a good investment for the same reasons. One tray will make all your apcks last longer, & run better too. It's well worth it. As far as how good of a pack to buy, I'd say it all depends on what level you want to race at. There are a ton of medium priced packs that will perform at 90% of what the best ones will. The trick to good packs is how you charge, run, & discharge them. I've seen guys take std packs & make them killer packs by cycling them hard. The only thing is, it also kills cells sometimes. You might want to try Integy for a real good price. Try Promatch, SMC, Orion for a better pack that cost a bit more. There are lots of others, but these are good choices. I have an Integy pack that was matched perfect, & works almost as well as my best preemo Orion packs.
You should be able to get a prety decent pack for under $50, maybe even less than that.

Railman,
What do you mean by cycling them hard? I have a Piranha peak charger and my speed control kicks off before my cells are fully discharged. I would like to compete at local stock truck races and be able to win. What do all those numbers meen? I don't know which ones are good or bad.
Thanks, Cory

Corry, Your best bet would be to go to some of the battery sites. He's a few: www.team-orion.com www.promatchracing.com
www.integy.com
Just go to the FAQ section. It's too much for me to get into on here, & you'll pick up a lot of good additional info. Be shure to add them to your favorite list. You'll be back a lot! Good luck.

I would recommend any matched pack from Team Orion batteries. All my batteries have been Orion and have been matched. I have had a few others given to me but they don't work well for a car or a boat. I use those cheap packs to power my cordless soldering iron. I hope this helps you. Orion batteries rock.
